Did you know that if you're drinking a Corona, that you bought anywhere in the state of Nevada, it…read moremade its first stop, after the factory, at Southern Wine & Spirits? Same goes for Skyy Vodka, Patron, Fiji Water, and a bevy of other beverages, seeing as SWS has 15,000 SKUs in their system. They distribute 75% of the beverages here in Nevada. Insanity. I went here for a tour this morning (6/1/11) on a hospitality purchasing field trip. I'm not sure the general public can get a tour, but regardless, the tour was great. It was mind-blowing to see the sheer volume of alcohol on hand in this place. Imagine how many Coronas, say, a casino might go through in a day - a lot right? Now multiply that by all the casinos. That's even more! Now add up all the grocery, warehouse and convenience stores that sell them... and then multiply that by 35-45 days. Yeah, SWS keeps between 35-45 days worth Nevada's consumption of Corona, in their warehouse. It's the craziest thing I've seen - the total number of Corona pallets are easily double the size of an average family home here in Vegas. They say everything is bigger in Texas, no. Everything in Vegas is bigger. Imagine 3 or 4 Costcos, turned into liquor refrigerators; that's what SWS is like. One "Costco" is at 58*F (+$10/bottle) and the other "Costco" is at 68*F (Less than $10 /bottle) I can't imagine their electric bills. As we (our class) ate flaxseed waffles, fruit salad and banana bread, made by the head chef at SWS (yum!) we listened to really friendly people from SWS tell us some cray-cray stories about the kinda stuff they go through to get high rollers some rare wines at the drop of a hat, the legal red tape (that most of us didn't know existed) of buying, selling and distributing alcohol in the US and how to secure and manage a place that's so imperative to the success of Las Vegas. If you have the chance to go here and listen to a presentation and go on a tour, DO IT! It was an eye-opening and interesting way to spend a few hours this morning.

Ergonomically designed bar and seating. Swivel seats with foot rest, didn't complain about comfort throughout the 7 hour class. Completely lit bar and counters. I mean it is really beautiful. Outlets for everyone and shelving for your personal belongings. Several large tv screens. Cameras and all. Breakfast: Coffee tea Yogurt, fruit, granola, Danishes Lunch: Salad, beet salad, sautéed Vegetables, pork, rotisserie chicken, petite desserts The instructors are passionate about what they do. You walk away with a lot of great knowledge. Our bartender was a bit talkative, often about additional unnecessary information. Made it feel a bit lengthy at times. The cocktails were pretty good though. I would suggest that during slideshows, it would be helpful to have videos play in full screen instead of within the template frame. I will say last year our instructor came off as racist. Some of us asked questions and were eager to learn. However I felt deliberately ignored and saw judgement in his eyes. The thing about him though, he was actually totally engaging. We were all very entertained and it helped us retain the information. Shoutout to Steve who was very kind and informative. Would take classes here again. I bet it's awesome to work here!

They have their own parking which can get cramped during peak hours. It is attached to a smog spot and I love that they have bright signage (or else I probably would've missed the spot). The place is a little cramped for navigating (if there are tons of people or samplers), which was the case on Friday for their Grand Opening event. They also featured a food truck for some of the day during the Grand Opening. I thought that was a nice touch, in addition to having swag to hand out and samplers pouring different products. I like that they had an extensive selection, nice clean store, it was stocked well, and staff was eager and able to assist with any questions. The only possible issue is that only some of the stuff had price tags. When asking about certain items, they did have tags up in their refrigerated section. When it came to a lot of other items, I felt like I was asking for prices every other minute. For this store, they had a wide variety of items to choose from--snacks, seltzers, beer, wine, ready to drink items, small sizes, big sizes, and a lot of spirits on shelves and behind the register (bookcase style). I must admit, the items were nicely merchandised and they seemed to have a little bit of everything for different customers--especially allocated bottles--whiskey and tequila. I'd definitely come back in a bit, after they've been open for a bit. I did like what I saw, and I'm hoping to come back for more stuff.

This is actually the coolest place, if they have cool stuff from businesses they will give it to…read moreyou! Brenda is the best!
