Rhino Records - Music & DVDs Near Me - Montclair, California

As indie record shops go, this is one of the best. I have been coming here (either location) since Jr. High and the store has always had a great variety of music. I have less money now that I am a grownup so I appreciate that they sell used CD's. You can listen to the used CD's before purchasing to make sure that the previous owner took good care of them. They also, occasionally, get albums before the official release dates. I do miss the Kiss dolls hanging from the ceiling and the "Jet Red" albums that came with the t-shirts. I love this place. I don't visit Rhino as often as I like, but when I can make it down here I realize why I keep coming back. The service is great and the selection abundant. Echoing others, when I'm looking for something in particular they don't always have it on the shelves, but they'll order it with no problem. With that said, this is more of an impulse buy store. Used to come here all the time when I was a teenager. This place kinda sucks now. I don't know how to describe it. Just seems to be dying a very slow death. I don't know how a business like this is staying open. Walked in and it smelled like someone's fish lunch. No greeting, never saw an employee. The current managers have made Rhino feel cheap and unfriendly. The manager's do nothing to make up for a bad experience. They try to cheat customers. Rhino Records as a huge selection of independent music. Its definitely the place you want to go to get that record that youve been looking for! They also have an array selection of used cds for cheap! Bands you forgot existed. I would definitely go here the next time i want to purchase a cd or vinyl. read more

Great place to shop at.Very large variety of vinyl and cds. A lot of different genre too, which is great! AWESOME for being open minded! Workers are nice, though they kind of just stand behind the counter and don't really ask if you need anything. But that's okay because I get lost in all that SWEET, SWEET VINYL. read more

I love this place!! I mainly go for vinyls but their books and other merch are awesome as well. They have a large selection of new and used items. Their prices and deals are really good too. Like this weekend I got 3 vinyls for $5 out of their sale racks. I ended up only spending $32 for 6 vinyls! read more

My grandfather passed away and he has a box of records that I was trying to sell to this store. I called and spoke to Aaron who said of course, come in and we will look at them. So I bring them in 35 min before closing and when he finally comes out, he told me he doesn't have time to look. I noticed his name tag said someone else so I asked for Aaron and he said that's me and said he must have grabbed the wrong name tag...Ok that was annoying. So I come back another day and I'm told by this Martin guy( if that's his name tag) that he is also one of the people who do the buying of records but I have to come back at 1 when Aaron comes in and they MAYBE can get to it. I told him I've already come back and he said sorry but one of their employees got sick so now I have to work the register as if he's to good to work register and can't take any time to look at my records. Not good customer service if you ask me. I guess I'll just donate them Instead because i got no where with them. I will say Aaron was polite about it though. read more

Great record store overall. They have a huge selection of new and used LPs. They have a decent 45 section along with some used cassettes, books, and miscellaneous trinkets. However their service isn't that great. They have an understandable no-return policy for their records. However when I bought 3 records from their store recently, two of them were warped beyond use. When I returned to the store to get a refund, they only offered store credit. Seems unjust for a product I bought brand new with a manufacturing flaw. Not good customer service. read more

Disrespectful ass manager i brought some lp's in for sale .. he started to inspect records .. and grabbed them by the edge i said no no no don't grab them like that .. and showed him how he can pull them out of sleeve .. 2 seconds later he grabbed them by the edge again .. .. ignoring my request .. then he asked me to leave .. they can handle them however they want after they buy them .. till then RESPECT my wishes DON"T ignore me ... never again with rhino .. ... i have no idea about anything else but respecting customers wishes they get a zero star read more

This place had been a pretty reliable Record Store Day stop for me, but this is the year they became truly useless on the April holiday. They were both inundated with customers and apparently received almost nothing in terms of the releases. Neither of those things are their fault but when you have the respect of the local record buying public but not the RSD distributor, I might as well roll the dice at amoeba. As far as every day shopping, their used vinyl is heinously overpriced with values not supported by discogs.com, completed eBay auctions or logic. The people that work there are really cool though. The one star is only for the first gentleman who helped us when we first walked in, otherwise I would not have marked a star if I could have avoided it. The wife and I went in to sell a bunch of DVDs. The first guy helped us inside of 1 minute. Gave us a receipt for the items and said that "the manager (pointing to him) would have to sort through them. It would take about 15 minutes, so browse around the store if you like." We browsed for over 20 minutes. During this time, the store manager continued to "shoot the breeze" with another person at the front counter for the duration. Not once even glancing in the direction of the DVDs. They were laughing and smiling without a care in the world. I was so fed up with it that I went to the video store next door (owned by the same person) and asked them if they bought used DVDs. Affirmative. Went back inside Rhino, dropped my receipt on the counter, took back the box of DVDs and walked out. Not one peep out of this guy. We ended up being helped by the very nice lady next door and we were in and out in under 15 minutes. Crap managerial service. Pompous hipsters that think their store would be great if it wasn't for all the customers. read more

I will NEVER buy a record from here again. The other day I bought a record from here and realized the outside of the record was recognizably damaged when I got home. I went in the next morning and showed the employee, and simply asked for an even exchange for the same record. The record was still packaged and with the receipt. I am still SHOCKED with how rude the employee was!! Another employee walked over and explained that the heat in my car may be what damaged the record. When I asked for an exchange the original employee laughed and refused. I've shopped at this store for years, and it's super upsetting to see a staff that refuses to be at least polite or empathetic to their loyal customers. I will now be buying my records from Penny lane Records. read more

They should change the name to Regret Records because that's how you feel once you get there. The selection is just bad. Records stores aren't dead because iTunes they're dead becuase amazon has every record ever and for less. You'll find fun books and gadgets and toys in the back of the store. If you need a lunch pail or a fake mustache for march mustache madness then this may be your place. This is definitely a great place for a serious collector. Rhino has such an extensive used CD collection that you can always find something you're looking for (and many, many things you had no idea existed) I love that they sell bootleg concert CD's, which is totally cool if you want to keep that concert high going and going and going... read more

Support your local independent music store! Rhino is undoubtedly the best music store in the Inland Empire. Not that it has much competition, but still, it is. I've been shopping there regularly or semi-regularly for at least ten years now, and I still can't go in there without spending at least $50-$100 each time. If you want something special edition or limited release, this is your place. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, their used section is awesome. read more

We love Rhino! Halfway decent vinyl selection and their CD selection is nothing to scoff at either! You can spend hours going through their bargain vinyl bins which are priced very well. Non-sale vinyl is a bit steep compared to other stores I go to but that didn't stop us from buying a stack of goodies. We'll definitely go back. read more

I have been coming to Rhino Records for as long as I can remember. I recently went back while visiting my parents for Thanksgiving and going there brought back a flood memories of high school, finding Voodoo Glow Skulls, Face to Face, old No Doubt cd's and stickers and they had the best selection of Morrissey/Smiths shirts and posters. Now that I am more into hip hop I was glad to see that they still carry everything, I found some great old Common and was quite pleased with the visit. read more

Located at the north part of The Village, this place has been around since before the rise and fall of the Music Plus and Wherehouse Records empires. This was always the place to go if you wanted to get the latest and greatest in alternative/non-mainstream music. Great memorabilia plastered all over the walls, and a pretty good selection of both new and used CD's and vinyl. Don't bother going here if you are shopping for Celine Dion or the Backstreet Boys, I think Security will throw your candy ass right on out the door. read more

This place has lots to offer! Movies, books about famous singers, cheap old CDs, posters, even scorpion lollipops. I've only bought some cheap CDs here, a Click Five and Christina Aguilera one, probably for like $4 each. And I've also bought a few movies here, they sell good quality DVDs for like $4 and up. Apparently they also have performances here, and it's nice to stop by while walking in the village. read more

I've been going to this little quirky shop for as long as I can remember and this place has no problem supporting my really weird music taste. The items there are decently priced and they have a wide assortment of used CDs and DVDs. The sales, concerts, weird humor items, and great customer service also add to the greatness of this place. This place is pretty good. I'm surprised sometimes by what I find in here. They have a decent selection of rock, punk, country, reggae, soul, jazz, hip-hop, blues, latin, industrial, and metal. They also allow you to sell cd's, vinyl, and dvd's. My only complaint is that even though I can always find something worth buying, they don'y always have what I want specifically. Haters gonna hate. I love buying physical copies of music. I'm old school. My niche is CDs, which sadly kids today may not even have ever heard of before. Great selection (although they do tend to run out of things I see on previous trips to the store quite frequently. One day they have a certain album, next day it's gone). I have bought around 5 or 6 CDs and 4 or 5 vinyl records since finding out about this place. Also picked up a couple of cool posters for my room. The thing that makes this place really stand out is the cool/funny selection of books and other merchandise like action figures and stickers. It reminds me of Spencers Gifts a little bit, there are a lot of joke toys and comedic items. I can recognize some of the staff also, which gives it a nice familiar feel. read more

My third visit to Rhino was a bit of a disappointment. Having only been in a few times prior I've always managed to come away with a few gems, usually the higher priced items. Today, I assumed would be the same but sadly this would not be the case. I went from pure elation upon discovering what I consider to be a personal grail perched up on the wall to utter disappointment when the clerk informed me the record was incorrectly priced, despite the giant yellow sticker price indicating what I believed to be fair market value. Instead, upon scanning the barcode the clerk informed me the price was nearly double the sticker price. I understand human error and such, but seems they should have at least honored the sticker price, right? I was bummed having driven over an hour to get here, plus another hour home. It pains me to have to leave a poor review, but in this case it was just bad business. read more
