Without a doubt, the absolute worst pieces of prime rib I have ever seen in my life. My wife and I both had the queen cut, medium. Mine was dry and grey, hers had a weird sear on top, likely because all they do is reheat this terrible meat before they slop it on a plate. The weird thing is, there is a beautiful open air kitchen where the food is supposed to be prepared, but this entire area is weirdly dark and not used, and they being the food out from some mystery kitchen in the back. Our sides were ice cold, including the sides on the plate with the prime rib. The service was lacking, ambiance is terrible, and food inedible. Complete was of $300 for a dinner for two! We visited The Rib Room for lunch on Mardi Gras day. We had a short wait to get a table due to a big party that was being set up in the middle of the dining room but once we were seated our server, Felicia was attentive and friendly. I also have to mention that we got a lucky seat in the front window, where we were able to view the people in costumes walking by. This being Mardi Gras day, we wanted to grab a quick lunch and get back out for the fun! The Rib Room didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner after we made our order. The chef, Ronald came out to our table to check on us. We learned that he just moved to the city and was experiencing his first Mardi Gras. I ordered the chicken hand pie from the appetizer menu, and he told me that that was a new item on the menu. It was absolutely delicious. My friends ordered the burgers and they were on point as usual. One of the friends that I was with mentioned as we walked in the door that the burger has always been her favorite thing on the menu. Overall great service and amazing food! Super fancy! You're in for a Treat dining here especially during the holidays, the Omni Hotel in which it's in is gorgeously decorated for Christmas. We had Kendrick as our waiter, he was very friendly and knowledgeable with a great disposition! My husband and I both ordered the crown steak with a side of baked potato and brussels sprouts. For some reason the kitchen never sent the brussels sprouts out so they comped us both a dessert. Which was much appreciated, as it was delicious. My wife and I came for Halloween. I had a fantastic time. From the time you walk I. The door EVERYONE was great! From the Valet to the food, drinks and front desk. Royal Omni is the ONLY place I stay when o come to New Orleans. Sure I've stayed in newer hotels but I've found the staff at those places to be stuffy and on the snobbish side. EVERYONE that works at the Royal Omni was great and I've come there every for the last 5 years. Oh BTW I average best cheeseburger I ever had in the Rib Room. See you all next October. Rib room... We went there during the culinary month. I am not sure about the regular price for the entree on its own but for $35ish, I got a steak, watermelon salad and a dessert. I am not gonna lie, it is a pretty good deal for that discounted culinary price but I do not think I would pay a full price for the steak I had over there. Nothing special and it was as generic as it can get. Pressed watermelon salad was absolutely amazing however. Could not complain at all about their service and cocktail as they were just as good as I expected them to be. The drinks here are great. But the food is lacking. I ordered the boneless beef short rib and since I am a guest at the same hotel the restaurant is located in, i asked to take my food to go and eat back in my room. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. But somehow in the 5 min walk it took me to walk back to my room, the food was cold. And not warm or lukewarm. Cold. So I ate the side little baguette with blue cheese and then I ordered Uber eats. Unless the meal is supposed to come out cold (for which I had no warning of) I was severely disappointed in the beef. I seriously went back to the menu to see if it hinted to a cold beef dish. If you do like sweeter cocktails, I recommend the grapefruit blossom Update. I did call and ask if it was a cold dish to which they confirmed it is not. I was offered a voucher to which I declined. We were here for Thanksgiving Dinner. They served a four course meal. My husband ordered the turkey I ordered the prime rib. The first 2 courses were good. The entree came out 30 minutes after we finished our 2md course. It was cold. The meat was tough. The cornbread dressing was disgustingly gritty. The dessert was pumpkin on a bed of orange marmalade with small marshmallows thrown on top. No the marshmallows were not toasted. The meal was priced at $95.00 per person. When we arrived, they told us it would be a short wait for the window and they were sorry. The wait for us wasn't an issue, just a 15 minute wait, but the manager offered us both a drink on the house. How nice! Great service from our waitress and delicous food. The filets arrived in a brown reduction sauce that was flavorful. The brussel sprouts were fried and crispy. Warm french bread is served in a bag at the table. This was a bad experience all around. We waited over 1 hour in the lobby before they could seat us for our reservation. Two other couples were also upset with the wait and I think one couple walked out after finding that a walk-in was seated instead of the reserved groups. The hostess had no customer service - she just stared at us and basically shrugged her shoulders. After getting seated, it was another hour before we got our food. The atmosphere is amazing, large armchairs around white table clothes in a high ceiling club style dining hall. The food is of exceptional quality; Best turtle soup I've ever had, an amazing quality French onion soup in a traditional ceramic bowl. The cuts of meat were tender and the Demi-glace perfect. The service was impeccable, Kendrick our server was the most agreeable and upbeat server I've had in years, his menu knowledge paired with timing left me impressed - and I'm usually overly critical of service from my years in hospitality management. THE MANAGEMENT IS A JOKE. This is where the night almost went off the rails if not for Kendrick's quality service. There was a complaint from another table, an old man upset that our rare steak arrived before his well done porkchop when he ordered after us. The FOH manager, a older portly white man who want running the host stand, goes over to him and audibly tells him; "Yeah I'm planning to quit, I've been here three weeks and I have an interview tomorrow. The kitchen sucks, the server is good - I stand up for my guys.. but no I hate it here.. What do you expect me to do? Comp the check? Cause I will." This man made eye contact with me at a different table cause he knew I heard him.. and kept going on about how much he hated the restaurant he MANAGES. I've managed restaurants and F&B for hotels, I could of said the same thing dozens if not hundreds of times.. but what kinda low life actually does? Like have some professional integrity. And while I'm at it what General Manager or Food & Beverage Director hired this guy and just set him loose in a fine dining restaurant. I was there Sunday night for a date, it's Wednesday, if he hasn't quit yet then here's your free advice - fire him now before he robs the place blind and destroys your reputation. Salud! read more

Bad first time experience. It was Christmas Eve.. Our waitress wore gloves the whole time. I wondered did she ever wash her hands or use sanitizer. There were many other servers , I only saw one other with gloves.. All of our food came out almost cold. It was like our food had been sitting out or may be under a warmer/ barely warm. We had come across the beautiful singer Yadonna at another hotel, however, she had just finished her performance and was headed to her residency at the Omni and told us to follow. So glad we took her up on it! What an unbelievable performance. The hotel, bar and restaurant are absolutely stunning.Justin (barback?) was great addition to our bartender Meghan. The Bruins were in the playoffs and get got it up n running almost immediately upon request. Which lead to meeting new friends of course. The turtle soup was absolutely delicious. Justin was great conversation, Meghan could not have gave a better experience. Between the three they made our experience a solid New Orleans date night. Can't forget the pianist with Yadonna though! So my correction, the four of them. We met Randal at the bar who gave us great information as well ( just a little shoutout to our new friend) he sent us to Antoines the next day which was also great advise! I was there very recently with friends. The place was lovely and the prices were pricey. The food was surprisingly ordinary and had very little taste. This is in NEW ORLEANS! What the heck? Whoever cooked the fish dishes for me and my date was clearly not trained by professionals. I have had better meals in divey places but I live here in New Orleans and the back of the house in NOLA typically knows how to cook very well! And the dessert was plain as well. The service was adequate but not great, especially surprising for a $$$$ place in the French Quarter. My 10 minutes with my UBER driver provided a better personality and interaction than the servers.. read more

After reading reviews, I was nervous about our Easter reservations and hoping for the best. I was pleasantly surprised with our service and the food. I ordered the Rib Room omelette and it was simply divine. My company ordered the salmon platter (it was generous and fresh) and the crawfish quesadillas, which were a unique and tasty blend. Our server was friendly, and our drinks were refilled several times. The atmosphere was beautiful and grand, and the staff was very friendly. 5 stars for the service, 1 star for the food. We had won a silent charity auction (shout out to Edible School Yard!) for a stay at the Omni with dinner worth up to a certain amount at the Rib Room included. It was a lovely excuse for a random staycation. The reservations and service at the Rib Room were awesome. The staff was kind and attentive; you really couldn't ask for more on that end. The food though... On meat temperatures: my partner ordered medium-rare steak, and it came out so undercooked that he could not eat past the edges. (He enjoys rare steak, too; the bulk of the steak here was completely raw.) By contrast, I ordered my steak well-done -- but they decided to butterfly it and cook it for so long that it was charred all the way through, and burned beyond the point of being edible. The french onion soup was ok and something I might consider ordering again if needed. We had high expectations for the jumbo lump crab/roasted fennel/pancetta salad, but it was not good. I ended up just picking the crab and pancetta out to eat. Not sure what happened to the dressing and the butter lettuce there to make it taste that way... The bartender was kind to make me a non-alcoholic lemonade. However, it tasted like pure sugar-water and I wasn't able to drink any. With all the other offerings in the quarter, we we will not be back to stay or eat here. Ok, lastly, and I know this is a random personal pet peeve... I get that the restaurant is called the rib room as a riff on prime rib. However, I still think that they should serve at least one offering of actual ribs. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant, a mainstay of New Orleans history for 30 years and never have I experienced such shoddy service. This was to be my 65th birthday celebration. We had 8pm reservations. At 8:16pm I had to remind the hostess we had not been seated. Finally we were seated. We ordered appetizers and drinks, then we tried to order our entrees. Here is where it all fell apart. My wife ordered the chicken and our waiter informed her the chicken had been overcooked in prep and was not being served. We said give us a moment to decide and our waiter disappeared...literally disappeared. Now 45 minutes later our menus still in front of us we have not ordered, we have no appetizers and no sign of our waiter. I go to the hostess to inform her of the missing waiter still nothing. It's 9pm we leave, happy 65th to me. Oh yeah I'm out a $30 pedi-cab ride to the restaurant from our hotel. read more

Gosh I REALLY wanted to like this place. We went there with a reservation as party of 4 on Thanksgiving day. The hotel is historic, the restaurant environment is very lovely, the on site free (with dinner) valet parking is a big plus for the New Orleans busy district, the live jazz music was a big draw for us, and the prix fixe menu sounded great. HOWEVER.... there were some big negatives that I can't overlook. First we have to start with the food (after all, it IS a restaurant). Uninspired is the kindest description I can use. The fresh bread and soft butter was excellent, I have to give credit for that. The first courses were ok, but not overwhelming. The salads were tasty but not very creative. The main courses were the biggest issue... the chateaubriand was properly sized, but had no salt or other seasoning whatsoever, the asparagus spears accompanying it were the tiniest size and portion I've ever seen... all of them could easily fit on one spoon. Why bother ?? The potato dauphinoise was the highlight by far. The prime rib was very fatty, quite thin, and also not seasoned sufficiently. The oyster cornbread dressing was much closer to soft mushy overcooked baby food.... totally awful. The only (lazy !!!) dessert choice had lousy texture and mediocre taste at best. We asked for some different choices for some courses and were told a flat out "no" that there was nothing else available despite the fact they they resided on the bar menu. The music was lovely but because the jazz combo was set up two rooms away outside in the hall it was very hard to hear over the din of a busy dining room and past the bar and a few walls, doorways and columns. I DO, however, need to mention the restaurant manager who did his best to resolve our complaints. Kudos to him, much appreciated! Bottom line, for $95 a person we expected more food and a more talented chef. read more

It is a mix of local businessmen in suits, ladies who lunch, locals taking the day off and tourists. At time of reservation, request center of the room seating to watch all of the action. We had $.25 martinis - our choice of gin or vodka. They are not skimpy, au contraire! They are substantial. My friend ordered a gin straight up and I ordered a vodka dirty on the rocks. They even have blue cheese stuffed olives. **This review is for the bar only! Often, a bartender makes the bar. Anyone who has tended bar (8 years under my belt), knows there's a science behind it and by "science," I don't mean mixology, I mean people-handling. You're part therapist, part entertainer, part conversationalist, and more. You need to be able to read your customers within seconds or risk them leaving after one drink. You want to keep them there. You want them to tip you. You want them to become regulars (unless they are jerks). I recently stayed at the Omni thanks to an unheard of rate of $135/night. This rate included two complimentary holiday cocktails at the Rib Room bar. We went to use them at around 10:30 on Monday night and the bartender apologetically told us that the recipes hadn't yet been given to the bartenders. She offered to make something holiday-ish on the fly for us, or we could have pretty much any drink we wanted. Uhhh, when Moet sparkling rose is an option, I can do without the overly sweet holiday drink, so SCORE! Let me note that my stay at the Omni was not a good one and this weird mistake on their part to offer up holiday drinks and then not even share a holiday drink menu with their own hotel bar staff was just par for the course at this point. Getting back to our fabulous bartender. She was the best! I wish I has asked her name, but she's blonde and works Monday nights, so that should narrow it down for you. Go on a Monday night! Sit at the bar! She knows how to make you feel at home, chat a bit if you want, or leave you to your conversation with your partner. That's a skill, people. She even honored my third drink coupon when I suggested I should just buy one (also so I could tip on a CC)... actually she insisted. Pretty cool. That sparkling rose doesn't come cheap! I made sure to take care of her (note: when drinks/food are comped, one should tip generously). I am not a regular at any hotel bar, even though NOLA has some amazing hotel bars, but I can easily see myself returning here often as I am in the Quarter. Wow. Breakfast: Croissant sandwich, french toast, cajun bloody mary... and more! It was all really tasty, fresh eggs and so was the ham. Service was good! Dinner: Turtle Soup, Gumbo, prime rib, and shepherds pie! Again, everything was amazing and well paired. Great flavors, very local. Service was also amazing this night. I ordered turtle soup which tasted like the meat in chef boyardee ravioli and was inedible. My wife ordered the house salad which claimed to have blue cheese dressing but tasted like wilted lettuce smothered in watered-down ranch. They didn't have the short rib so we ordered the 24oz prime rib. The prime rib actually tasted okay, but was split in half which I didn't ask. Didn't feel like 24oz either. The apple tart was decent. Very high end restaurant with fantastic food and service. By far one of the best places in French Quarter

On a Saturday night at 6:30, my husband and I were trying to figure out where to eat. We called numerous restaurants and no open reservations were to be found until we called the Rib Room and surprisingly got a 7:00 reservation. On the way there, we were trying to figure out what was wrong with this place for us to get a reservation so fast when the rest of the city was booked. Well.... absolutely nothing was wrong and the Rib Room exceeded our expectations for sure. We started with the fried oysters, which were on a bed of creamed spinach, feta cheese and roasted red peppers. AMAZING. For my entree, I got the filet. The filet was good, but that's what it was... just good. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to go on about either. My husband got the chef special that night, which was damn good. He had a plate full of prime rib topped with shrimp. The food was good, the atmosphere was cozy, but what was even better was our server Andre! He was awesome and made the night even that much more enjoyable! read more
