I'm reviewing based on breakfast room service, desserts and bar service. We did not have dinner in the Rib Room. Our breakfasts were plentiful and so delicious - and there were some adorable bonuses like bday cakes for two of the days and extra sides (yogurt parfait, extra grits) etc to celebrate my bday. Our bar drinks were tasty and service impeccable. My only complaint is that I wish the bar was opened later every day. Kia, Joseph and Terry are all amazing! I feel like this should be an obituary for a once fine dining room. Was there last night and ordered their specialty - prime rib - as I have for nearly 50 years. Neither of my 2 servers warned me it would not be the traditional prime rib. It was a slice of beef roasted individually until well done, not medium rare as ordered. The restaurant had very few diners, hence the reason for not roasting a whole roast. They were out of baked potatoes, and the salad dressing tasted mostly of oil. I ordered a piece of Doberge (multi-layered cake) which arrived somewhat stale. At 8pm the tables were all being set for breakfast the next day. My Sazerac was quite good, so at least the bartender was up to par. All in all, very sad (and expensive) experience. When I return to town, maybe this place will have become an Olive Garden !! read more

We have been going to the rib room for over 30 years. I can say it was not up to the standard we are used to. Staff was forgettable as well as the food. The prices of a glass of wine was well more than we have paid in the past for a wine that is not top notch. Likely won't be going back. read more

I read other reviews and did not intend to come here but, we were staying at the restaurants and did not want to go out during 4th of July for dinner because we wanted to catch the fireworks view at the hotel's observatory deck. Needless to say, all the complaints about slow and strange/inconsistent service was true for us. The host at the Rib Room greeted us like she did not want to work there and did not want to be bothered with us. Okay, I was willing to look past this. Our waitress was nice and the man who served us drinks were super sweet. We ordered a soup and two salad, mentioning to the waitress we just wanted a light dinner so it would be quick because we wanted to go up for the fireworks. She said no problem and she would keep that in mind. Our salad (after the soup), took at least 30 mins to come out. We asked them to check 3 times and each times she said it should be coming out shortly. When she finally brought them out, she gave me the wrong salad. I pointed it out and she apologized and took it back. It took about 5 mins for her to bring out my corrected salad. I really wanted to say something but I didn't, I didn't want to waste any more time. Overall experience, 2 stars. Would not come back! read more

The manager actually stopped by our table to ensure that everything was going well. My husband and I had a really good conversation with him, and he made us feel right at home and appreciated. The Rib Room is a gorgeous restaurant in the heart of the French Quarter. With a gorgeous old-world space, high ceilings and low lighting, it's a welcome bit of quiet and calm just a few steps away from the chaos and fun of Bourbon Street. We went here for a nice dinner before then heading over to Carousel Bar (another classy establishment). The Rib Room wasn't too crowded, though we did have a reservation. The service was top notch, from the hostess to our server and busperson...everyone was so friendly. We started the meal with cocktails (though they were sadly out of my usual prosecco) and warm bread which was delicious. Then we all ordered the French Onion soup which absolutely blew us all away...it was the best I've ever had. The cheese was not too gooey...you could crack the top...I love that! For dinner, we opted for the filet mignon which was very good. In most steakhouses you have to order sides separately, but here you get creamed spinach automatically. Creamed spinach in general is not my favorite, so I didn't eat much of that, but I enjoyed my steak. Overall, this was a really lovely meal! read more

A terrible experience. I went with a group of 5 for brunch on New Years Day. To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. The restaurant was only partially full and there were enough staff working, however the service was awful. It took over an hour to get our entrees, our drinks were never refilled, and our waiter went completely MIA after our food was delivered. My husband had to ask 3 separate staff members for the check, after waiting for at least 30 mins after finishing our meals. The food was mediocre at best. Our original waiter never returned to our table. We also had a gluten free person with us and our waiter was unable to answer her questions and did not offer to ask the chef. Once we got seated for dinner, we waited another 30 minutes just to order and that was after asking three different people to please find our server so we could order. People seated after us were eating before we even ordered! After eating half a loaf of bread, I wasn't that hungry so I ordered an appetizer. It was pork belly and half of it was pure blubber. It was my first time here. We started with a drink at the bar. My old fashioned was perfect. When we got to our table the ambiance was really nice. I had the turtle soup to start. It was delicious. However, our food came out like 10 minutes later. I think the kitchen was closing so our food was pretty much pushed out. For dinner I had the lamb chops and a baked potato. Everything was pretty good except my potato was cold (butter would be even melt). My husband had the ribeye. We enjoyed the food. The service from Cynthia was great as well. We walked over from the Roosevelt hotel. We were able to get seated right away without having a reservation. The decor was suited well for a dinner type restaurant. We started with the seafood gumbo and the Rib Room salad. Both were excellent! I should add that while we waited we were each presented with a little treat that was a small cracker with duck liver pate and other small ingredients that was so tasty! As far as the staff, I've never been in a place with a more attentive staff. We were greeted by several employees and chefs who all had an interest in our visit. I ate here for dinner and lunch. I at a filet for dinner and it was seasoned so perfectly...worth the $65. I ate the prime rib po boy with french fries for lunch. This was a large serving and delicious. Topped with horseradish sauce and the fries which were perfectly cooked and so perfectly seasoned and very crisoy. I do wish there was a little au jus or gravy served with this prime rib sandwich to dip in. I thought there was but I didn't receive anything. It was a bit dry to eat as is which is why I say this. Wow! Wow! I have had prime rib at some of the premier prime rib locations in the country and this is head and shoulders above the rest. So much flavor and melts in your mouth...:. Not just the edges. The whole piece! Lamar was our server. Exceptional service and attention. And he gave perfect suggestions for where to go to enjoy great music. The view from table 10 is probably the best seat in the area to watch the Mardi Gras festivities. The manager was also excellent but I sadly did not get his name. He is engaging and attentive. Okay so I read the reviews and I just don't get it because we had a great time. We had a 6:30 PM reservation but we arrived early and was seated right away. Christian was our waiter and was the most polite and accommodating waiter. Very patient with me as I tend to be quite demanding at times. Well, not demanding where I want my water at a certain temp, blah blah. I just need things like club soda because I made a huge mess on my dress. Anyways, we ordered the french onion soup and the beef carpaccio salad which was phenomenal! That salad blew me away. I do wish it had a little more dressing or creme that it was dressed with. They also serve fresh warm bread with butter and it just melts. I ordered the rib crown and my boyfriend had the filet. I was thinking of the prime rib but it was just alot of meat and I can barely eat 8 oz. They rib crown was juicy and had lots of flavor. Most importantly, they both were cooked to our liking. I hate when you go to a steakhouse and they just cook it the way they would cook it. If I say I want medium rare, give me medium rare. We ended the night with a louisiana strawberry shortcake and chocolate mousse cake. The strawberry cake was just perfect. We went to New Orleans for a family Christmas vacation. Three generations enjoying the holidays. There were 7 of us, my parents, my husband and I and our adult kids. My daughter and I chose the Rib Room for our family holiday dinner. We had requested the private room but sadly they were short handed because a server called out last minute. The manager working the host stand felt terrible, but what can you do? She was very nice and comped our desserts which was a very nice gesture. The room was beautiful! We had a great table in the middle of the room. Our server was fantastic (I'm so sorry I don't remember her name). 3 of us had prime rib which was delicious and perfectly cooked. From the moment, I walked in, I was met by a wonderful waitress named "Artie" and she did not disappoint. She absolutely, exceeded our expectations. It's Thursday, 12/1, and the hubby and I just left. We had reservations, and arrived on time. We were immediately seated, give. Bread and water. After 30 minutes, I flagged down someone and I asked them, what do I need to do to get assigned a waiter?? The gal said she'd help me. The waiter came over, and we ordered a coke, salad and two steaks. After 35 minutes the waiter gave us a salad. After 20 minutes, the waiter brought us knives.. After 20 additional minutes and no coke, I requested to leave immediately due to everyone else receiving five star service but my husband and I. The French onion soup was one the best we have had. Cocktail menu was good and offered a nice compliment to our meals. They fell short with a soggy salad and even though our attentive waiter immediately offered a fix it should never have made it to the table. Atmosphere was beautiful and our dining table by the window was a nice relaxing touch. There were some items on the menu I would like to try on a future visit. We ate here for our anniversary dinner this past weekend with our three teenage boys. Our server was fantastic (Renee), drinks were tasty, but.... My husband and I had the turtle soup and French onion soup, both of which were phenomenal. All five of us ordered the prime rib. I ordered mine medium, as did my middle son. Both were quite rare, not even close to medium. Bright red and bloody, and also quite fatty. Mine was also barely lukewarm, as were the potatoes and broccolini. I decided to just eat it rather than send it back; however, about halfway through, a mouse ran across the dining room floor. As bizarre as it sounds, I was unable to disassociate the mouse with my raw prime rib, and could eat no more. My husband brought the unwelcome guest to the attention of staff discreetly. No quiet apology was made, no "thank you for letting us know," no acknowledgment. We did order dessert, although the description on the dessert menu was not even close to what came out of the kitchen. The ice cream seemed freezer burnt and actually had small chunks of ice in it. When you pay $500 for a meal, you expect high quality and attention to detail. I cannot say we received either. read more

I am sort of torn on the rating for this restaurant. If I could rate 3.5 I would. Big on math but I'm not rounding up in this case The service was excellent and the wine selection was nice. The bottle of wine we ordered was out so that upgraded our choice to the next selection which turned out to be wonderful for the price of what we selected. The purpose for being at the restaurant was amazing but this has nothing to do with restaurant. It was for a networking luncheon on Friday. I met wonderful people and it made the trouble of having to find somewhere to park worth the whole trip. Take an Uber or Lyft don't drive! I started with the turtle soup which was chunkier than what I am use too and the flavor didn't blend well together. I am the mother of a chef and I always have the expectations of a delightful flavors in my mouth. My meal was the Lamb Reuben and it was ok. Nothing exciting. Now the bread and French fries were really good but this isn't the type of restaurant you go too for bread and fries. They are known for the ribeye and one of the gentleman at the table had the ribeye and it looked very tasty so maybe I will try that next time. I did mention the service was great. read more

Overall, the food was okay. i've eaten at several steakhouses and this definitely wasn't my favorite . i ordered the filet, i can't say it was cooked how i wanted . i ordered my steak medium, but it seemed to be a little more medium rare. and my loaded cream potatoes weren't hot, more so room temperature. for the amount of time it took to get our food ... it should've been piping hot. i did get the chocolate cake since we were celebrating my birthday and that was delicious. and our service was really great . other than that , the food was subpar . read more

Based on our experience, if you plan to come here for prime rib, and you like it tough and very well done, you may just like it here. Otherwise, don't expect a nice, juicy, rare or even medium rare slice of prime rib. I should have received the clear signal when I ordered the prime rib, and the server didn't bother to ask how I'd like it done. I then offered that I would like it on the rare or medium rare side. The server simply stated, "It comes out medium." Actually, it came out, when it finally was delivered to our table, a thick slab of beef with a very small reddish area in the middle that rapidly disappeared before my very eyes as it continued to cook on the plate. Frankly, I've had better prime rib at an Outback Steakhouse. Further, the service was horrible. Our server, who was rather unpleasant, rarely came by to check on us as we waited and waited and waited for our drink orders, appetizers, etc. At one point, while waiting for a drink order, I simply left the table, went directly to the bar, ordered drinks there and paid for them. Our drink order the server had taken never did arrive. The most attentive people in the dining room were the folks keeping the water glasses full and bringing bread. I looked around and notice other diners who didn't appear too happy about the poor service. Small high point: my wife's order of fried trout almondine and our side dish of potato au gratin were quite good, though the appetizers were just so-so. All in all, based on our experience, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. read more

A little birdie told us to come get a cocktail from Allie! She apparently makes a really yummy Bananas Foster Martini, and that was not a lie! It was so yummy, and a really great dessert cocktail. She mentioned how it's not on the menu... yet... which I don't see why it's not! It was so good, and til this day I am thinking about that martini. My husband got his usual, and as he was describing the order she immediately knew it was a Vesper, she was able to make it even though she didn't have all of the right ingredients. So the next night when our plans feel threw we decided to go back since previously was a fantastic experience. The party at the bar skipped out on the check. Who does that! The only staff at the bar are amazing and no one deserves that. After 1.5 hours of waiting for our dinner they came out cold. We expected more. First up, I am a loyal Omni Hotel visitor so I know what the chain has to offer. I assumed the Rib Room would deliver based on my expectations. It did not. Atmosphere is great, food is .... ok and service is also ... ok. Ribeye was highlighted on the menu but was barely seasoned and the accompanying creamed spinach was served lukewarm. My wife's beef was awesome and hot, but not what I ordered. The restaurant was basically empty during our visit, so there is really no reason or excuse for the lack of perfection. Good but not great.
