Today's travels bring us to Baton Rouge's very own Rice & Roux. So good your tongue will slap your face! You have never had such succulent jambalaya. Talk about the holy trinity here, people. It was a whirlwind of shredded pork, chicken, sausage, and brown rice...I think! That much meat getting along together can be confusing. My tummy didn't seem to care though. Also, don't forget to pull up your Best Of Cajun Music playlist. Nothing goes with crawfish pies and gumbo like the French-tinged deep country sounds of Burt Bigeaux. The worst food ever! Very dirty! Cashier had gloves on and touching every thing and never change his gloves .I had the cat fish and you can tell they fryed it frozen it did not have no taste.My husband had the seafood gumbo it was lacking the seafood and the taste.We also bought crawfish boudin it was bland and no color to it. they should close that place down.never will I go there again! Driving back to Houston from Florida and stopped in Baton Rouge for the night. Looking for some Cajun food and this wasn't too far from our hotel. Ordered the jambalaya dinner with chicken and sausage. Had red beans and potato salad as my sides. Very good flavor. Wife had a combo which included boudin with her jambalaya. It was excellent as well. Couple of our kids are picky eaters and they had non-Cajun kids meals so everyone was happy. Just wish I had room for the Mississippi mud pudding for dessert as I would have to have tried it. Will come back the next time I am in Baton Rouge! read more

I had high hopes for this place! Heard the jambalaya was good (it is actually!), so I ordered a #3 which comes with the jambalaya, a choice of seafood, chicken, or pork gumbo, a side, and a link of boudin. Well, I know no two gumbos are alike, but I figured since the jambalaya was so good, how could they possibly kill a gumbo? All I can say is, ugh. I took a few bites of the gumbo, one of the boudin, and it was HORRIBLE. The gumbo (mine was chicken) smelled... like cat food. Weird and off-putting. The gumbo and boudin were both extremely bland. The gumbo was thick and creepy tasting. Very little rice to help at all. The boudin was gritty of all things, tasted old and dry, had a suspicious taste. Just bad. I tried to save it by added spices, which helped, but the smell and the texture were still too off-putting. And I was feeling a little queasy trying with something that smelled and tasted so old. I also ordered a side of green beans. Overcooked, watery bland green beans of the sort that I'm sure I'll be enjoying in a nursing home one day. A friend ordered the same meal as I did, only with the seafood gumbo. It smelled VERY old and creepy. Like your garbage can the day after shelling shrimp or hosting a crawfish boil. Complete turn off, and I believe he couldn't finish his either. Jambalaya was still pretty good. Get it together, Rice and Roux! You have such potential! read more

I went for the first time today and had the large bowl of seafood gumbo and a crawfish pie. Let me say that when they say large bowl, they mean LARGE bowl! The gumbo was on point and the crawfish pie was AWESOME! Before I received my food, I saw "Slap Ya Mama" seasoning on the table and I told my friend that I knew it was going to be good! It's the same seasoning I use at home, and is made in Ville Platte, LA, a very "cajun" town, which apparently, is where the owner of Rice & Roux is from. To the person that only gave one star because the people aren't "cajun", I'm a Cajun, born and raised South of Lafayette, and I am honored that someone would appreciate our culture enough to open up a restaurant based on our food! I don't care where the owners or the cook is from, as long as the food tastes good! Yelp led me here off the interstate, and Yelp did well- a fabulous alternative to fast food or chain family restaurant. Very casual, friendly counter service in a strip mall. Lots of take- out business at dinner time. Jambalaya wasn't the tomato- based that's my favorite, but it had big chunks of meat. The gumbo was really excellent, with a roux that was right. Flaky, tasty crawfish pies, too. A generous amount of tasty food for a reasonable price, served by nice people. read more

We stopped here on the way back home to Texas. The food was great and at a low price. We enjoyed the gumbo and the fried catfish​ was fresh. However, the kids chicken nuggets were poor quality. The kids chose to eat some of my wife's catfish instead. We will definitely come back when passing through town. read more

Great food and service. My go-to is the Pastalaya. But their lunch special, Courtbouillon, I could eat my weight's worth of.

This restaurant is a little jewel, however the little strip mall makes you question your judgement. We got carry out and were extremely pleased. Jambalaya is good but a little mild, but put a little hot sauce on and it was fine. Food was good and will be back.

The company I work for uses Major Menu and Rice & Roux is one of the companies that we order from. This is one of the companies that I wish could be a choice to order from every week. I've ordered several times and i've always enjoyed my food. The regular size order with 1 side is more than enough to satisfy even the heartiest appetite. i've only had 1 time when I ordered jambalaya and I was given pastalaya. I called the company and the manager credited the money back to my account. I ate the pastalaya and I've been ordering it ever since. The food is seasoned well and I've never had hard/gummy rice. I get an extra boost when I check Major Menu and see Rice & Roux. GREAT FOOD!!!! read more

This restaurant is FANTASTIC!! I called today to get a bucket that serves six. I was bringing it to my brother and his work crew who were cleaning out his house after the recent flood. I was told the dinner would be ready in 10 minutes. It took me 20 minutes to arrive and the restaurant was quite full. They took care of me immediately and every staff member I saw had a smile on their face while they were working. I delivered the meal around noon to a hungry and appreciative crew. Then, this evening, about 4:30pm, I got a call from the manager of the restaurant to ask if my food was made to my satisfaction and to ask if I felt they had taken care of me well, despite the demands on their time and talents. I explained that the food was excellent and exactly what I needed and the call from her was very much appreciated. That's the LAGNIAPPE we always hear about in Louisiana. I have eaten here before but I will do my best to let everyone know how great this restaurant is! read more
