Don't waste your money here! Especially if you like SEASONED and HOT food. I ordered the fried fish with two sides, which were potato salad and a garden salad. Sounds simple right? That's what I thought. It came out and my fish was barely cooked. It was soggy and wet, not even a little bit fried. I asked if they could fry it a little longer and it took 20+ minutes for the new fish to come out (the restaurant wasn't even busy). The potato salad is like cold mashed potatoes put into a mound. The "garden salad" was soggy and dirty, with nothing but romaine lettuce. Everything was plain and terrible. Absolutely no culture and respect for the food. I was very disaappointed. read more

Love Rice & Roux! The Pastalaya is the best! Their red beans, white beans and jambalaya are fantastic. If you are headed to LSU or the bluffs for tailgating call ahead and they will have your order boxed up and ready to go. Owners are super nice people that do a lot of good in the community. I have been to Rice and Roux several times for lunch as it is located near my home. They have awesome jambalaya. My favorite part about Rice and Roux is how fast you can get in and out. It's great for a lunch break. I originally reviewed Rice and Roux and had them confused with Boil and Roux. They claim to be Cajun but when asked if they are she said "we would like to think we are." No true Cajun would say that! Then when asked if the cook is Cajun they said no, so how can u claim that this is authentic Cajun food?! This is an insult to true Cajuns. People think cause they live in Louisiana and can try to imitate our cooking they can call this Cajun food. The state came up with this seal (which happens to be on their menu) to protect Cajuns against people trying to imitate them and that it is Cajun, but it appears that some people like this are able to copy the seal on their menu. My job ordered ahead here for lunch. Had the lasagna and some kind of noodle/jambalaya dish, a side salad, and green beans. The lasagna was really flavorful and a generous portion. I wish I knew the name of the dish, because the jambalaya-esque noodle dish was my favorite, as well as that cornbread! It was buttery and tasted amazing. Not a great place for LA food. Selections are limited to dishes with lots of rice & not much else. Unless, one's taste leans toward boiled corn. Some comfort food patrons may like it. Gumbo is tasteless compared to other major LA food venues. Try elsewhere for better cooking. read more

We've eaten there several times now and have enjoyed it every time. I'm very picky about jambalaya and can't stand it when rice is undercooked and crunchy- not the case here. The rice is fluffy and fully cooked. I order the chicken and sausage jambalaya and do add cajun seasoning to it as I like my food a little spicier than the normal person. Rice and Roux is one of the few places that I've never had an issue with food quality or service. They do a great job and if you've never been there I'd suggest that you give them a try. read more

Fry catfish was really good. We order second again. Jambalaya rice was delicious. I am glad they offer brown rice. Gumbo was OK.

This is by far the best pastalaya I have ever had. The potato salad is my favorite side, I am hooked for life!

We love the jambalaya, even the picky toddlers will eat it. I must admit that my favorite is the pastalya. We usually get it to go, however the last time we ate in the restaurant, I enjoyed watching football on the tv while we ate. My oldest loves the white beans with her jambalaya. Had the catfish daily special and it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Many reviews insist that this place serves Great flavorful food but the Catfish was just so bland. Maybe I'll come back and try the jambalaya or gumbo instead and see if that changes my mind about this place. read more

Gumbo was some New Yorker's idea of Gumbo - no vegetables, non-existent crab, mushy, overcooked shrimp, (the little ones) and not much flavor at all. I order from Major Menus to be delivered mid city where I work. I order the chicken and sausage gumbo and crawfish pies, Of these, only the pies was edible. I was running weekday errands and in the mood for fried catfish before returning home. I wanted a quick option and didn't want to dine in anywhere, so decided to give Rice and roux a shot. There are two primary reasons that they are receiving three stars---extremely slow service and poor customer experience when I finally received my food. I waited patiently behind a couple that couldn't make up their mind for almost TEN minutes. Finally someone else came out to assist and take my order to relieve the line a bit. She was very nice and friendly. I placed my order ( pot roast dinner for hubby and fried catfish for me) got my drink and proceeded to wait for 24 minutes. I do understand that made to order items take longer. However, this is absolutely unacceptable. If something is going to take more than 15-20 minutes for a to-go order, that should be communicated to the customer when the order is placed, especially during lunchtime. Others buzzed in and out with their orders while I just sat. At just over the 15 minute mark, someone came from the back and said they were just waiting on my catfish. No apology for the delay. Finally, my order arrived -- the girl just handed it to me-- no thank you, no apology for the wait, no hope you enjoy--not.one.single.word. That made me think by business was not appreciated. And to make matters worst, I specifically requested cocktail sauce and --you got it -- it wasn't in the bag when I arrived home. The food was pretty good and a decent size portion. The sweet tea was entirely too sweet, even for a sweet tea junkie like me! My only hope is that they do a better job with communicating and double check to-go orders before they leave the kitchen. what a joke , in the land of culinary delights this stands out as one of the worst meals I have eaten in BR. The red beans were dry and cold, so dry, I had to take about a half a glass of water and mix it in to make it edible. The rice was so dry it was crunchy. These guys won't last long. My first shot at cooking red beans at home was way, way better than what I ate that day. read more

This is my second visit to Rice and Roux. Both times I've greatly enjoyed the quant atmosphere. The food tasted freshly cooked with the right amount of flavoring. It looks like a little hole in the wall but when you walk in, it is a really nice sit down-homey vibe that makes you feel at ease. We ordered the meal #3: the chicken and sausage gumbo with 2 sides. We picked green beans, which were made in the heavenly sauce, and then the most delicious potato salad I have ever had. They give you enough to last a while too.
