Glad we found this restaurant online as we were driving to Baton Rouge. We only had 30 minutes so we called ahead and the food was ready when we arrived. Ate, it was good. A perfect stop along our cross country road trip. Jambalaya was my favorite. But all seemed to be missing some flavor so the hot sauce was a must. Overall enjoyed it! Wish they had okra

Still one of our favorite stops while in BR! If you are looking to take a meal to a family, dinner while passing through or just have a hankering for some good Acadian food this is a wonderful option. Tonight we chose a small bucket of jambalaya and crawfish pies to feed our family of 5. Everyone had full bellies and excited to get more our next time in Baton Rouge.

We were once again on our quest across the country and stopped for a night in Baton Rouge. I wanted Jambalaya because we're in Louisiana, you eat jambalaya or gumbo (right?). Anyways, the original place I wanted to go to was the Jambalaya Shoppe. However, it was Sunday, so most places were closed. I found Rice & Roux online and saw they had jambalaya so we decided to order online through their website. I had ordered the small Pastalaya (jambalaya with noodles instead of rice) combo, so I subbed cornbread for the roll and got the side salad. My husband got the regular jambalaya with corn on the cob and fries. We ordered and were waiting, all excited to eat this food. After about an hour and a half, we were starting to get worried so we called the restaurant. It turns out that the food was ready for a while, and it was f**king DOORDASH that didn't pick it up! They offered a full refund but I really wanted the jambalaya so we turned it down. In order for one of the staff members to deliver it to us, we would have to call DoorDash and have them cancel the service and then they could deliver it to us. But we were both hungry as hell so we decided to just go there and pick it up ourselves. The staff members at the restaurant were really nice about it and printed the ticket with the customer service number for DoorDash. We called DoorDash on the way back to the hotel and my husband was put on hold for like 45 minutes. Of course, DoorDash said we have to go through the restaurant to get a refund. (F**k DoorDash btw, I'll never use them again.) The food was delicious though, and totally worth the wait. The pastalaya was so good and flavorful, not too spicy, but just enough for a kick. Despite the horrible experience courtesy of DoorDash, I did like the restaurant and I would recommend it.

I pretty much stayed at this place when I was living on this side of town and before jambalaya shoppe was built right down the street from it. They have a very extensive menu to find a little something for everybody. Their jambalaya is good but it's not the best in BR. Sometimes the rice can be crunchy or very wet if that makes sense which throws it off a little. But it is still good so I am not knocking it just the texture can be questionable on occasion. I usually get the fish plate with double chicken and sausage jambalaya and upgrade my roll to cornbread. The cornbread is always so good. Worth the 50 cent up charge for that buttery homemade stuff. I am not being fan of their gumbo as the roux isn't the best but some people might like it. I'm just not a big fan.

This is a cute shop. I ordered from the counter for take-out. The jambalaya was pretty good; I still prefer more seasoning and a moister texture, but it was good. I got the seafood gumbo and we weren't thrilled with that ... it was very "fishy" so I'm thinking it was an older batch. It just didn't taste fresh. It could have used more crab (I didn't see or taste any crab). It also needed a little more seasoning and I prefer a darker roux. Overall, it was ok. I'd give them another chance.

I have been here several times and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge for great flavorful food. The food was amazing and great. For an appetizer, I had a dozen of their chargrilled oysters. You can see the smoke and smell them cooking them on the way in. They have this amazing butter sauce packed with tons of flavor and it is served with their French bread to soak up that butter! Some other appetizers we got were their fried eggplant with marinara sauce and their buffalo wings which are so good. For my main entree, I got their blackened shrimp pasta which was seasoned well and came with garlic bread. My twin got their hamburger steak and it was delicious. Some drinks I got for the night were their old fashioned and their Long Island iced tea. The ambiance is nice and perfect for a family outing or to celebrate graduation in my case. This will always be a restaurant I will coming back to. The service was great and Chance was amazing the entire time accommodating our large party! Thanks so much.

I was even more skeptical of the sweetened/spicy syrup that came with them but whoa, perfect combo on the tacos. The side was yellow rice with black beans and pico. Decent. Second dish, Epplant Supreme. Breaded, baked eggplant with well spice shrimp over a bed of thin pasta. Piece of buttered bread and a small side salad. My daughter loved it. I tried one of the shrimp and it was really good. Overall 4/5, edging towards a 5. Well pleased with the dinner and the price.

When we pulled up, we realized the parking lot was full( it's a shared parking lot), but we were able to find a spot. There was only one other family dining in when we arrived, so there were a lot of empty tables and our waitress sat us right by the bathroom and the storage area which I didn't appreciate. When going to a restaurant no one wants to look at your storage area. I think they need to put a curtain up or something to cover all the supplies because it isn't aesthetically pleasing. On to the food and drinks. Our waitress started us off with some water, but my mom and I didn't drink it because my dad said it was nasty( you know certain areas tap water may taste/ smell funny and I don't blame the restaurant for that it's more of a city issue). I ordered a pink lemonade and my parents had Arnold palmers. I ordered the Fried chicken Orleans, my mom had the hamburger steak, and my dad had the mornay. All the meals came with a breadstick. My food and my dad's food was covered in sauce. He had fish but you couldn't even see it because of how much sauce was on it. They could definitely cut back on the sauce and maybe not pour so much on top of the protein. For me, it made the batter on my chicken get soggy quick. Flavor of the food was ok, but it could've used more seasoning and the sauce could've been thinner (it was pretty thick). My dad felt like his fish was overcooked and could've been seasoned more. My mom enjoyed her hamburger steak and didn't have any complaints. All of our veggies were cooked well. Prices were fine. Overall this place is just ok to me, I don't have to go back.

They have plenty of parking, which is great because you'll need the extra space to dodge potholes the size of kiddie pools. That lot is in horrible condition!! By the time we parked, our car needed a mechanic chiropractor. Unlike the parking lot, the inside was clean and moderately busy. When it was finally our turn, I confidently ordered hot large crabs. Pointing towards the display case showcasing a pan containing a moderate amount of cold crabs, the cashier replied, "We do not have large size hot crabs, only medium size cold crabs at $7.99 a pound." I slowly turned and looked at my husband with the universal married look that says, "Did we come all this way for refrigerated disappointment?" My husband the optimistic one decided we'd go ahead and get some anyway. As the employee began filling our order, I noticed she was selecting the smallest crabs from underneath the larger ones on display. I politely asked if she could choose larger ones instead, but my request wasn't acknowledged. After asking again and still receiving no response, I requested to select the crabs myself and was not acknowledged. At that point, we decided not to complete the purchase. For us, customer service is just as important as the food. We have a rule. If the service isn't there or the product isn't what a business is known for, it's okay to walk away. We almost settled, and that's never a good idea--especially these days when every dollar counts. And let's be honest the crabs were cold and my imagination started asking questions. How long have they been sitting there? Are these today's crabs...or are we on yesterday's episode? Maybe Randy's has amazing days. Maybe people leave carrying steaming bags of giant crabs while angels sing overhead. Friday, July 24th, just wasn't one of those days. Between the obstacle-course parking lot that doesn't qualify for FEMA assistance, the missing hot crabs, and being completely ignored by employee, this trip was an empty shell of what we expected.
