The rice is tender and not dry with a ton of chicken and sausage. It had just enough spice without being too spicy and not bland at all! Not greasy either! The red beans were nicely seasoned just slightly on the spicy side. The sides with the family meal we chose were potato salad and green beans both were very good. I was a little surprised that the potato salad didn't have cubes of potatoes but more like mashed potatoes but was still good. The proportions were very generous and well priced. A vendor that I do business with brought Rice & Roux's jambalaya, white beans, and salad to a lunch 'n learn I was hosting. I've lived in BR a long time, but had never heard of them. First - everything was packaged so well. The jambalaya was in a styrofoam cooler (wrapped in a plastic bag inside), and the salad and beans each had their own plastic buckets with resealable tops. We were given everything we needed to feed a crowd - utensils, etc. So let's move onto the food...SO delicious! I am usually one of those people who groan at the thought of jambalaya and white beans, because most are tasteless and boring with very little meat. But not Rice & Roux's! The chicken and sausage jambalaya had so much meat - unlike I'd ever seen - even to the point of having some WHOLE chicken thighs in it. The sausage was high quality and there was a lot of it. The rice itself was perfectly cooked. Even the white beans had a great flavor, and weren't gritty or overly seasoned like so many people tend to make theirs. Just overall, a great meal. My mom's family is true Cajun, with its own recipes for things like gumbo and jambalaya. It's safe to say I've eaten quite a bit of these in my lifetime. Hubby chose the shrimp etouffee special and I got the fried catfish. We didn't want to miss out a the crawfish pies so we split an order. First of all, the food was piping hot. The portions were generous and we'll seasoned. The catfish meal had two huge filets that were perfectly fried with a Zatarians like coating. Heading back home to Florida in a large U Haul and wanted a quick Cajun restaurant close to I-12. Situated in a strip mall the place is clean and the staff were super friendly. I give them 5 stars. The food however was why I gave it only a 3. Although the food was tasty the porprtions weren't right. The pork in the Jambalaya was well seasoned but the rest of the dish was rice nothing else. The same with my gumbo. The medium roux was well flavored but the only other thing in it was tiny shrimp. That's it. My family is from New Orleans so I expect that if you live in Louisiana you should be a champ since these are signature dishes and should never be two dimentional. B oth dishes were more rice then anything else. Still, we ate and were back on the road in a half hour so if want a quick stop it wasn't bad. read more

Well, I guess they are under new management or the Boss was away. They use to give you a lot of food and it was delicious. Well, not today, Sunday, December 4, 2022. My friend got the Pork and Sausage Jambalaya Dinner, with White Beans and Potato Salad. Well, the big section of the go box was not very full. I don't know how many pieces of sausage he had, but I can tell you, he only had three small pieces of the pork. He said the Jambalaya was OK, but not as good as it used to be, and the small amount of white beans were very bland. The Potato Salad was more like mashed potatoes. I wanted to order a Bowl of Chicken and sausage gumbo with the rice on the side and potato salad. I was told, that I could not get the bowl to go, just the cup. I have been getting their food for over 20 years and always get the same thing. So, I said, ok to the cup of Chicken and sausage gumbo, because I knew the size of the container it came in. Well, not anymore. It was in a very small container, and it should not be called chicken and sausage gumbo. It should be called sausage, and skin gumbo. The gumbo was not even a full 8 Oz cup. Yes, I did measure the amount. It had a few pieces of sausage with maybe two little bitty pieces of chicken, about the size of a half of a teaspoon and about three pieces of skin. Yes, Chicken skin. Yuck!! Good thing I got the rice on the side, or I guess I would of only had juice. The Potato Salad was ok to me, but not much taste to it. I was so disappointed because I really wanted some of their good gumbo. But it was not good today So I guess I will be going down the street to the Jambalaya Shoppe, because their food is always good and they give you a lot of food. Also, there was a lady there that wanted the Pastalaya Dinner and the girl employee said that they were all out of the Pastalaya because they had a busy morning. It was only 1:30 pm. I've passed Rice and Roux several times but never thought to try it until a friend recommended it. Today was the second time I was there. The food is always amazing and I love that they give a very generous military discount! The establishment is well kept and the staff are always friendly. I ordered the large grilled chicken salad with Italian dressing. It is more then enough so I split it in half and bring some home with me. This place is at best mediocre. I ordered the #2 Jambalaya Sampler that came with jambalaya, a side, a link of boudin and a cup of seafood gumbo. The Jambalaya was disappointing and there wasn't much flavor to it. It was very wet and sticky. The boudin was decent, but the seafood gumbo wasn't. The gumbo had tiny shrimp in it and was mostly roux. According to other reviewers, consistency of quality and flavor is what this place appears to be lacking and that was validated for me as well. I think next time I'm on O'Neal, I'll go further up the street and just grab Jambalaya Shop. read more
