I heard the sushi was good at this place but the service was slow. And since it got such high ratings on yelp, I was EXTREMELY excited to find a good sushi place in Chico since i just moved back. But tonight was disappointing. Me and my friend came in to eat at this place tonight. When we got in, two of the ladies that worked there walked passed us and didn't even acknowledge us. After standing there for at least 10 minutes, my friend jokingly even asked me..SHOULD WE SEAT OURSELVES??? We've never been treated so rudely. The workers could have just said HELLO and PLEASE WAIT a moment instead..I had to hunt one down who accidentally made eye contact with me, and she said 'please wait' and rushed off clearing dishes. FIRST OF ALL, those dishes will always be there, its always more important to seat a customer first, 2nd of all, I believe we were treated so poorly because we look young and 3rd of all, they didnt even smile at us. We're paying customers! SO we finally get seated. We got the main menu and we rushed to pick our rolls in case they came over for a second, we knew we would never get them over here again to take our orders if we weren't ready. We waited and we waited, a couple was seated behind us, and right when a waitress came to our section, she was going towards THEM and not us. We had our menus closed, we were waiting patiently, but no. NO SERVICE. For the lack of service, this place deserve 1 star only but the sushi was delicious nonetheless so 1 more star added. This restaurant serves Chinese, Japanese and Sushi dishes. We were visiting family and came here before going to the Chico Community Theatre. We ordered Chinese food, which was delicious. Enormous portions, enabling us to bring home a complete meal for 5 to eat as leftovers. Robert, our server, was very attentive, and since our family has been here before, he knew which beers to bring without being told. This is a family owned restaurant, beautifully decorated with many rooms to eat in, so you do not feel crowded. The next time we visit, we will ask to come back here for dinner. read more

Wow! I went to school in Chico for a few years and I did not even know about this place until I come back 3 years later for a friend's graduation. Henry F. (the one commenting on reviews here) is the man who waited on us and he is very friendly. I was surprised with everything at this restaurant. Before walking in, I figured "hey, it's Chico. This is probably a fast food restaurant that would be comparable to Wok 'n Roll at the campus food court." I quickly discovered the opposite. Ambiance is great, service was good, and the food was superb. I like how there are different menus for the Chinese and Japanese food. A little confusing at first, but not hard to figure out. I'll need to come here again and try some new stuff before I give it 5 stars. If my experience here was as good as my first one, then it'll be justified. This place is amazing! I dined here with my boyfriend and his father and we all enjoyed the food. If you are vegetarian like me, I recommended ordering the miso soup (best I've ever had), the cucumber salad (amazing!) the spring rolls (so tasty!) and the szechuan spicy tofu (so tasty!) Our waitress was awesome and made great recommendations for sushi in addition to the appetizer food we had. It's the best of both worlds here! Chinese food and Japanese food.. yum yum yum! Can't decide between Chinese or Japanese? No prob, this is your place. They two menus with both cuisines. In-house sushi bar too. The sushi was pretty good - not the best I've ever had but I'd definately order it again. We tried approx. 10 Chinese entrees and they were all good. Decor is very nice. We have been LOVING this place for a few years now. Three menus , sushi, chinese, and japanese. Never at a loss to find something to order. We were spoiled on our first visit having Henry wait on us. He gives superb 5 star service to his customers. Offers suggestions etc. Most of the staff knows us well enough that they already know what we want to drink! However we have had a couple times received very poor customer service with servers. But after going there for 3-4 years ... Overall, we are always happy to come eat here. Good food. Good sake. Wow! I passed this place all the time when going to visit my sister, but I never stopped until recently. The outside always just looked so cheesy, but finally we decided to try it. Glad we did! The sushi was wonderful (they make the Lion King Roll just how I like it!), and the prices were great! The staff was incredibly nice, and we were served extremely quickly. I have eaten at this restaurant several times. The Chinese food is what I went for. Service was generally poor. On one occasion my friend and I were seated and then ignored for such a lengthy duration that we decided to leave and go elsewhere. It was not even very busy. So I started just ordering for pick-up, when I had a craving for greasy, salty noodles, and some type of chicken dish. I'm not super picky about Chinese food, but this stuff was particularly greasy. I would order about three different dishes, for variety. The cost came to about $20-$25. The amount of food would last a couple days for me. When I'm craving Chinese food, I tend to pig out on it. At some point someone introduced me to Panda Express, and I have not been back to this place since. At Panda I get less grease, better service (pick up or dine in), and a variety of flavors by spending less. Plus I don't pig out on greasy food for as many days, and I get my craving satisfied. read more

I'm giving this place a 5th star only because it is in chico and up until now I haven't found a truly good chinese or japanese restaurant up here. I am from SF so I am very picky about my chinese. On the sushi side, Rawbar and Japanese Blossom don't compare in food quality and are even pricier. My girlfriend and I got a tuna roll, salmon skin roll, crunchy shrimp roll ( a specialty and more expensive) and sashimi, potstickers, miso, and a chinese chicken salad all for $40! People say its pricy but I think that is a good deal. In conclusion, whether you want chinese or japanese or just can't decide this place is the best in chico. Great and fast service too. read more

I cannot stop thinking about their Wor Won Ton Soup! I ordered it and the eggplant in garlic sauce for delivery when I was sick and the food saved my life! I didn't realize the soup had shrimp, pork AND chicken in it! Also came in a huge container, wasn't expecting that much food. It's so delicious! A little milder though, I added some sriracha for more of a kick. The eggplant was fantastic as well! So much of it, dripping in sauce! Reminds me of eggplant I've ordered at thai restaurants, but twice the quantity. I recently ordered the same thing for take out. The menu looks great, and I really want to try some more things, but I can foresee that being difficult as I'm craving the soup and eggplant ALL THE TIME! read more

I went to the rice bowl and the food was good and prices quite reasonable and got what I thought was merely green horse radish but was a brutal form of culinary torture named Wasabi which sounds like what an oriental might say if he suddenly stepped into burning lava but this was the glowing remains of what once was my tongue surrounded by wisps of smoke which were once my lips. I swear I had never heard of phantom lip syndrome but it exists! I sputtered and choked out my last breath and the waitress asked me if I was OK. I've only been here for takeout, and this is the only place I will order Chinese from in Chico ever again. At the end of the menu, they have a "Dinner for 2" option which is only $25 and you get SO MUCH FOOD. You basically get like $40 worth of food for half the price. And the food is so tasty! Sushi rolls are a good size and filling. Between the boyfriend and I, two rolls and some sashimi filled us up when usually we go through over four rolls plus sashimi at other shacks. My wife and I were looking for some good Chinese food and the Rice Bowl was suggested by a few of our friends. We were not disappointed! The place is quite large and beautifully appointed. Service was good and the food excellent. My wife's favorite food is duck - and the Peking Duck was fantastic. I would also recommend the Chow Fun with BBQ pork. Although we did not have sushi - we did sit near the bar and I longingly watched beautiful sushi rolls pass by. I've been to the Rice Bowl on several occasions and order out at least once a month. Being a recent transplant to Chico- I've found this to be a great place for all things Asian. I love going here as an option because I'm a sushi fan and my fiance is not. There are plenty of Chinese menu options he can order while I get my fill of sushi. The private rooms are great! My co-workers and I recently reserved both on short notice for a friends Birthday Party and it was a huge hit! The Rice Bowl staff was friendly, helpful and very accommodating! A big plus in my book. My only complaint is while in the private room our water ran dry. We definitely appreciate the privacy and little disturbance but a pitcher of water (possibly in a Japanese looking vessel as not to disturb he decor) would have been much appreciated. read more
