This place seems to make their efforts in ways that don't matter. The restaurant has over the top construction that doesn't make sense, and the restaurant could be more clean. The menu is huge, but none of it is made very well and generally appeals to people looking for Americanized Chinese food. All of the Chinese food on the menu is excessively oily like Chinese fast-food. The sushi is as you would expect from a Chinese restaurant, not great. As a Chinese person I'd rather eat at the teriyaki takeout spot down the street. read more

We went here yesterday for my mom's birthday, she made a reservation for 40 people several days in advance so they would have adequate time to prepare. When we arrived some of her guests were already sitting at one of the big tables, the manager told me we needed to fill up each table as we went, he was honestly pretty rude about it and was visually annoyed when we sat at a different table as we wanted to sit with our other family members that weren't there yet instead of co-workers of my moms who we didn't know. It was clear that they were not staffed appropriately to handle the amount of people that we had. We asked for a high chair that never came. We eventually ordered our drinks and food, I asked if we could adjust the meal B because I'm allergic to shrimp, the waitress said "no, we are too busy to make adjustments ". I explained again that this is an allergy, not a food preference and she eventually said they could omit the shrimp from the chowmein, but I would not be allowed to substitute out the entree with shrimp, I agreed that would be fine. They brought out our drinks after a long wait and shortly after that our food started to arrive, I looked down at my drink and their was a cockroach in it. Completely disgusted but not wanting to make a huge scene, I tried to quietly tell my server, and let her know that I wanted to cancel my food, she told me she couldn't split up the B meal because it was ordered for 2 people, I ended up talking to the manager and thankfully he agreed to cancel it even though our food was already being delivered to the table. The other person that was having the meal with me told me there was shrimp in the chowmein so it's a good thing I decided not to eat or I likely would have had allergic reaction. As I was leaving the manager waved me over, he was much nicer than he had been when we arrived. I told him about the shrimp and he said they made it the regular way since I decided not to eat, I find that a little hard to believe since our food was delivered right after I cancelled, but who knows. We were the second set of customers when they opened today 5/18/24 at 11:00 a.m. Started out OK then quickly went downhill. Service extremely slow, placed order by 11:20 first of 6 items came just before 12, a Chinese Chicken Salad which was good, then a while later the Sizzling Rice Soup which was anything but and tasted like hot greasy water. Had to ask for bowls and spoons to eat it, which proved futile! Combination Chow Fun was greasy and no flavor, the Sizzling Shrimp was taken to the wrong table and made sizzling there before realizing they were at the wrong table, it was good, as was the Vegetable Roll. Pot Stickers were ordered and delivered to the wrong table so we canceled that part of our order as it was now 12:20 p.m. They did not charge for the soup which was the right thing to do! Every time I have ordered Rice Bowl I am always a happy camper. I usually have it delivered, but have dined in a couple times. Delivery fee is $6, but it is SO convenient on days you don't wanna go out. I have only had their sushi and Japanese food, but I would assume their Chinese food is probably just as good. Rice Bowl is interesting just for its nostalgia and its unique Chinese Restaurant/Japanese Restaurant in one concept. The staff are also very very nice. I keep giving this restaurant more chances and it keeps getting worse. I am constantly trying to order food from their menu that is not battered and deep fried, and each time I get sort of tricked by the menu. Tonight, it was "dry braised chicken," which looked in the picture to have no breading, and implied in its title that there was no oil involved. Braised is not fried. Braised is not deep fried in batter. Dry Braised Chicken at Rice Bowl is. In fact, it was the identical deep-fried, greasy chicken that was used in the Crispy Spicy Chicken with a horribly sweet sauce that tasted like pure corn syrup and grease. I think basically all 19 of their Chinese chicken dishes are the same nasty chicken wearing a different suit and tie. I kind of give up. I've been tricked too many times here and keep making excuses why I should come back, mostly because it's a sweet, cute place. But that's it. I'm kind of over it. read more

I have a long history with this place and have been going there for over 25-years, in all that time they have never disappointed. In fact, my co-workers and I go here probably at least once a week. Unexpectedly it was brought to my attention this place called Rice Bowl. Having had two dismal experiences in two different Chinese places, and liking this type of food a whole lot when is good, I drove immediately after, being around 7 PM, for a check it out mission. What was the worst scenario? Blowing more money away on a thankless venture for a good place to eat, which I am kind of an expert at since eating out in Chico, CA. I kept it very simple: 1 Large Chicken and Corn Soup, house special and 1 Large Wor Won Ton Soup to go. Both to the tune of $25? Place was a little intriguing, big building to say the least. Turned out both selections were very tasty. Lady had the chicken and corn, liked every bite. I found the Wor Won Ton soup above average, with the right amounts of succulent shrimp, pork cut thin and large, and velvety chicken. Assortment of veggies almost al dente, and the big stars of the show, the wontons, small and bulky. Broth mild and clean, a very well made all around soup. Now I must return, probably dine in, but avoid weekends. Place was busy, and as I said, a little different as they seem to own a large piece of real estate, as old and exotic as it looked. Upon calling my order in on Tuesday the gentleman over the phone was very polite. I also received the same sort of curteous manners upon entering. I was a bit early for my pickup time but they assured me it was almost done. The food was packaged nicely in a box. I had ordered 2 Orange Chicken Lunch Specials. I subsitituted Chow Mein instead of the rice that comes with it for a slight upcharge and chose the Hot & Sour Soup as my other option. I had to throw in a Godzilla Roll & an order of Fried Prawns. Everything was priced fairly and tasted good. They asked if i needed any condiments and loaded me up with a bunch of different things to take with me. I should have mentioned utensils because they didn't include any. I also had zero napkins! Honestly, I was pretty bummed because I was indeed taking this to-go and was in a situation where I really was hoping for that cutlery set when I got to my destination. I am still giving 4 stars because other than that the service was so very nice and the food was good! Thank you guys, I will totally be back again & I am not that bothered by a small mistake. Huge portion with reasonable price. My boyfriend and I love going here to get lunch or dinner. Our favorite is shrimp fried rice, so delish! The service is good, the restaurant is somewhat clean and they have a big seating area so they can accommodate big parties. I love their Chinese food although it's not the best. I didn't like their sushi. The rice was dry and not sticky enough. The fish wasn't fresh. So I'd say stick to the Chinese stuff. read more

My husband and I went today for an early dinner. Years ago I went with my daughter in law and enjoyed our meal. Today we had the A dinner for 2. The hot and sour soup was ok then came appetizers of hard as rocks won tons greasy spring rolls and foil wrapped chicken that was impossible to get out of wrapper. Then they brought the sweet and sour pork that was so hard you could barely bite them and barely warm the special chow mein was pretty cold with huge pieces of meat that needed a knife to cut and the fried rice had no flavor. We left 85% of the food certainly didn't want to take it home. Our waiter was very nice but the food left something to be desired for sure we definitely wont be back read more

Quality of food over the last year has gone so downhill. Tonights meal was deplorable there was literally miniscual amounts of meat in the sweet n sour pork. My boyfriend and I came here today and one the managers (I didn't get his name) was super great at servicing us and exceeded our expectations. I am giving this review due to the lack of customer service. The food is fair, but we order online and they will only give 2 packets of soy sauce for the entire order. When you have three meals, someone does without. I specified on the order to add "x" amount of soy sauce and they completely ignored it. I called and received an argumentative employee that told me that they do not add more than 2 because they have to charge for it. I would have gladly paid for more, even though it's a ridiculous "policy" of theirs when I had 3 meals. The employee was talking over me and was very unprofessional.
