The food is delicious, the staff is super friendly, and conveniently placed (next to Starbucks & PSU bookstore). It's hidden behind the clock building, and not much seating inside. There is a barstool for sitting and lots of outdoor seating. I grateful to have the option of being healthy or not. Customize your own meal. I got the bibimbap it was so salty that I couldn't even finish it. It came with rice, chicken, bean sprouts, carrots, spinach and egg. The egg was overly cooked seems like in the morning because it was cold. Nevertheless, I was so disappointed spending $10.50 on a meal that ended up being just salt. Rice Junkies is great for a quick lunch, but it's offerings don't stand out among all the food carts in the middle of the Sprawling PSU campus. I had Bi Bim Bap for lunch today as I was in the mood for something with rice and meat, but I didn't want to go into a food coma from eating the massively sized teriyaki chicken plates. I really appreciated the option to do brown rice and my choice of meat, as most traditional Korean places don't even offer the option. The portion size was very generous as they don't skimp on the meat. I also really appreciated the green leafy vegetables as well. The downside is that I feel like the flavors weren't well balanced. Some of the other vegetables and beansprouts were pickled and the pickled taste kind of overwhelmed the overall taste of the entire bowl. Also I felt that the meat was glazed with a little too much sauce as well. That's not to say that the entire bowl wasn't tasty! It was good but not..... great. And thus I feel like Rice Junkies deserves about a 3 for being competent but not mind blowing. If I'm in the mood for BiBimBap and if I'm already at PSU I'll stop by. But I don't think I'll go too much out of my own way to get lunch here. There are too many great food carts in the area to try first. read more

Great concept, poorly executed. I love the concept of using whiteboard markers to take orders, sparing the environment. The wraps were poorly rolled and overstuffed. The filling was mediocre. We ordered the curry roll..the veggies could have been cooked longer. Usually veggies on curry isn't crunchy. We also tried the bibimbap wrap and it completely fell apart on us. We ended up tossing most of it. A for effort, D for execution. read more

I wanted to love this place because it's right on campus and Asian food is always easy. When I ordered my food though everything was just soooo bland. Even the sauce was bland and the noodles were just cooked and sat in almost warm temperature but not quite there. Maybe I went on a bad day but I can't imagine trying them again. read more

What's not to love about Rice Junkies? It's cheap, yummy, and super fast Asian food right in the middle of PSU's campus. It may not be a must-try foodie destination, these guys are very good at what they do. The majority of the Rice Junkies menu is either Bento or Wraps, and they're all fully customizable. Choose from rice (white or brown) or noodles, an array of sauces, and a variety of protein options. Options range in influence from Korean to Japanese to "I don't know what this is, but it's definitely Asian." Most everything is $9 or less. I particularly enjoy the speed with which these guys get food out. Even during the prime lunch rush when nearby restaurants and food trucks have 20 minute waits, I'm always in and out of Rice Junkies in less than 5 minutes. Good food. Good price point. They have outdoor seating but you can only enjoy it if it's sunny. My classmate and I came here to study after classes so it was nice to just sit there and talk. It was my first time in, and I ordered the beef bibimbap to go. I've had many bowls of bibimbap in my life, including as an airplane meal, and this was sadly the worst. They added guacamole to it (????) which I did not ask for and wasn't on the description of the item, I don't know what sauce they put on it but it is not gochujang, and overall it's waaaay too salty to eat. I have always been an avid browser of Yelp, but today I was "inspired" by Rice Junkies to create an account. Conveniently located next to the PSU Rec Center, Rice Junkies is a quick and easy stop for most students to grab a bite between classes. The service is quick and the staff is nice. That's not the problem. The problem is the food. Served hot and smelling good, you'd think that the food would be delicious. It was not. I've had one of their rice and beef bentos before, and that wasn't the greatest, but it was palatable. The steamed vegetables were tough and the meat was lacking, and for the price, I had decided not to return again. Today I was running to an appointment, and out of desperation, I decided to give Rice Junkies another chance. I went for the yakisoba, because it's nearly impossible to get yakisoba entirely wrong. Figured it was a safe bet. I have never had such terrible chicken yakisoba in my entire life. Now, I did grow up in Japan and Hawaii, so maybe I'm a little bit biased when it comes to Asian food, but come on. $6 for a tiny 3"x8" plate of noodles, topped with a skewer of 3 pieces of chicken. The chicken was well-sized, but dry and tasteless. The noodles were also extremely dry and/or chewy. There was nothing else in the dish to help make it "yakisoba," just noodles and chicken skewer. The drizzle of thick, salty, generic teriyaki sauce over the top helped a little bit, but not nearly enough to call either the chicken or the noodles "good." I had to force myself to swallow it down so that it wasn't an entire waste of money. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't believe the workers inside were Asian. You'd think they'd never tasted their own food before. Rice Junkies may be passable to those who have never experienced good Asian food before, but I would not recommend it to anyone who has a sense of taste. read more

Whenever I get the jonesing for rice and meat, Rice Junkies is my go-to place, especially since one of my twice a week classes is just upstairs. There are so many options: chicken, beef, spicy pork, curry, teriyaki, peanut sauce, with veggies, brown or white rice, yakisoba... And all these can go in a wrap, too, but I prefer the regular bento dish. My favorite is a toss-up between the spicy pork and the teriyaki beef. The owners are very nice, even though the female owner/manager seems aloof sometimes. They're all so friendly and the service is fast. They have a good assortment of sauces on the counter - I love me some hot chili sauce - to add onto your bento. Is it the best bento ever? No. But the prices are reasonable (between $6-8), the service is fast and friendly, and the dishes are nice and filling. I'm a rice junkies junky. read more

I still haven't decided on who is going to get my vote in the 2016 presidential race, but I do know that Rice Junkies gets my vote as a place to go get a healthy, tasty, and reasonably-priced meal on the PSU Campus. It's right across the streetcar tracks from Pizzicato Pizza and sort of catty-cornered next-door-ish to a Ben and Jerry Ice Cream Shop and a Starbucks. Very easy to get to for students and commuters alike. It's been not quite two years since my last visit there and a lot has changed. It's still in the same location, but has been renovated. The last time I was there it was a not so modern, but very clean and seemingly more DIY. Now it's all bright and shiny with a better seating area up against the wall and has a far more professional and commercial look with new signage, kitchen, and new ordering system (you can order using a hand-held menu to mark up with Sharpies) and either hand your order to the very sweet couple who appear to own the restaurant or give the order to them verbally. Either way they check on everything you order to make sure it's accurate before starting to make your order up. I had teriyaki chicken, which is served in quite generous amounts, with your choice of brown or white rice and sauce. I love that they have the sauces in plastic squeeze bottles to doctor up your order the way you want it to be. The portion of chicken you're given is thigh meat that is tender and juicy. Very comforting and filling for a rainy evening. I also ordered a Mexican wrap another evening, and that dish is fairly bursting with goodies (guac, rice, beans, veggies, sour cream, etc.) and extremely tasty. The two folks who run the restaurant know the names of a lot of their customers and greet them warmly, but those of us who don't get back as often are greeted the same way. Like I said it is all very clean and very attractive since they did some reno work on the restaurant. Food is prepped ahead and orders come out quickly. You can sit there and either read and enjoy the quiet or talk with the owners. All in all a fine experience with a quality product. I urge you to vote for Rice Junkies as a place to eat and then return to again and again in what is left of 2015 and then again in 2016. Enjoy!! read more

The menu seemed large enough and offered up many sauce options, I opted for the curry with tofu. Let's just say this place has a low overhead on costs and it reflects in the food. For $6 I got some flavorless, uncooked chunks of tofu, a few good scoops of rice cooker cheap as hell rice and a ladle of curry sauce. The least they could do is throw in some veggies for that price (veggies and tofu costs extra) and actually cook the tofu. Bland and overpriced. read more

I've been eating at RJ for years but I think I'm finally going to quit it. It's not gourmet food, (not to mention that there's really only one menu item that they put different sauces on) but it tastes good, gets served quickly and isn't overly expensive. An apparent change in management has resulted in less friendly staff, smaller portions and an occasional accidental overcharge. I recommend walking past the building the next time you think about going until you get to the carts on 4th Avenue. You'll get better food for about the same price. read more
