    Beef with Garlic Sauce
    Alex K.

Good ambiance and service. No complaints. I enjoyed my lunch special of beef with garlic sauce. The hot and sour soup was good and had diced green onion on top; a key sign I look for of a decent Chinese food restaurant. It's the small, subtle extra little things that matter and indicate other proper steps are being taken from sanitation to preparation. I would like to come back to try more dishes.

I I have been to Rice Valley many times for both dine-in and takeout, and it is always a decent meal. It is an 8 on an 8 scale, as in this place does not have the upside to be a 10. The food is consistently good, never bad, and always dependable. The menu has plenty of variety with lots of vegan options. I have had the Lo Mein, Fried Rice, General's Chicken, General's Tofu, Pu Pu Platter, and more. Everything has been flavorful, well-prepared, and enjoyable. The Scorpion Bowls are also a nice touch if you want a drink with your meal. Service is always fast and friendly. There is a steady pick-up business, but plenty of tables available if you want to eat in. The ambiance is basic but clean and functional, which works well for a casual meal. Overall, Rice Valley delivers exactly what you expect every time. It is a reliable choice and I will continue coming back.

Food was great for American Chinese food. Quick service and hits the spot for finding a place to dine in around Newtonville. Convenient street parking around the neighborhood and great dessert options nearby to indulge in after a cozy and quaint Chinese meal. Crab rangoons were amazing.

Medicore food. Skip this place. Advertised crab rangoon but they serve fried cream cheese only . They have the nerve to charge $21 for beef and broccoli then want to add $3 for steamed rice?!? Damn.

I like the location and the ambiance. The establishment itself is very clean which I like. The bar is nice. The food is alright. It's kind of expensive but it's standard for the location I guess. The service is alright as well. The bar is very nice and the bathrooms are clean which is good. I had the shrimp pad thai and it was ok. The appetizers were good. We got some scallion pancakes and some dumplings which were nice. Overall, it was an okay dining experience.

The nigiri felt like you were having omakase - each piece had unique flavors and toppings added. The rolls were delicious - the samurai roll was good but the basil flavor was slightly overpowering. The absolute best was the boomer roll.. MUST try if you are a fan of mushrooms. Unlike any roll I've had before.

Came here for dinner the other day with a friend & we did walk-in. We were able to get seated at the bar immediately. Though the restaurant was essentially empty at the time & there looked like many tables available, I guess they block them off for reservations only? Ended up being a full house by the time we finished our meal! There were so many unique options to choose from but we ended up getting the following: -tuna tacos -6 nigiris (2 otoro, 2 yellowtail, & 2 black bass) -phoenix roll -southside roll -lychee martini -"I trust the nanny" drink Take out order (after our meal): -nor'easter roll -spicy tiger roll -chutoro tuna w/ chives roll -4 otoro nigiris The fish tasted super fresh! Rolls were all very flavorful too! All of the rolls we ordered all had hints of spice & microgreens, which normally I wouldn't care for in my rolls but they managed to make it work well! My favorites from the dinner were the otoro nigiri & the phoenix roll! I love otoro & I love a torched salmon moment hehe, so though I enjoyed everything we ordered, those two were my personal favorites. I wish I had known about SushiCo sooner but I'm happy I was able to visit! Will definitely be back again for more sushi... much better than many of the "high-end" sushi restaurants in Boston (i.e. O ya, Oishii, Zuma, etc) in my opinion! Prices are higher than your typical neighborhood sushi joint BUT the quality is amazing & worth the coin! Parking: street parking

They give you the little shrunken hand towels for your table. They have a range of appetizers that are unique; I like that their menu has things you don't see everywhere. We ordered pickled vegetables which were interesting, and the wasabi shumai (I recommend this - shumai but with a kick). We ordered 5 rolls which is a good amount for two. Their signature roll is delicious and comes with a sauce that adds some sweetness and flavor compared to soy sauce. The other rolls were also very tasty, and inventive. I don't remember the names but you can't go wrong. The fish is high quality, melt-in-your-mouth. I would certainly come back here for other occasions. Prices are a little higher than other places I go but I was looking for a nicer experience.

Two waiters asked me if I wanted to order a drink in 30 seconds I told one of them I wanted hot tea at the end of my meal, but it never happened. Ice water is ridiculous in the winter, and it's also disgusting with germs. I got you nice salmon, teriyaki lunch, special, which comes with two things that need to be dipped, but no sauce for them. Comes with broccoli and carrot that needs to be cut, but no knife. Carrot was not quite cooked. Soup and salad were good. Salmon dinner was excellent. Prices are decent. This could be a great restaurant if they would pay attention.

Food: Everything in the platter we ordered was high quality and highlighted the unique tastes of the fish. Atmosphere: I can't say too much because I didn't dine in, but the decor was simple and inviting. You always remember your first, and while Shogun doesn't have the distinction of being the first piece of sushi I ever tried, it is the first sushi restaurant I was taken to when I asked my parents for more. I couldn't have known how lucky I was at the time. It's simple, friendly interior. The comfort of its space, small without being cramped, cozy without being claustrophobic. Years later, when I visited Japan for the first time, I would realize that it was simply authentically Japanese. And the sushi! I've been to Japan, I live in California, but to this day it is the standard to which I judge every piece of sushi I eat. The fish was always fresh and flavorful, the rice perfectly seasoned, and they had bar none the best spicy mayo I have ever tasted. Seriously, the spicy scallop gunkan was the greatest thing I have ever had the pleasure to eat. If you never ordered the spicy tuna salad appetizer, I am so sorry you missed out. This brings us to the real heart of Shogun for me: Ito-San. Jiro may dream of sushi, but I dream of Ito-san's sushi. From the first moment I stepped in the door in the mid 90's to the last time I was able to stop by in 2023, Ito was there. The incredible kindness he showed me for nearly 3 decades of my life is not to be undersold. As he watched me go through countless milestones in my own life, he also shared his and his families own. Even if his sushi was lousy he would have still been one of my favorite people on this planet. But of course, his sushi was top class. This is starting to feel like a eulogy, and as far as I know no one has died. But something has been lost. Perhaps to you it was just a restaurant. But to me, Shogun Sushi was a revelation, and an institution, and a place of intense nostalgia. Knowing I can never go back is deeply saddening. At the same time, I sincerely wish Ito-San and the rest of the staff a well earned retirement. If any of you are reading this, I hope you know that every time I eat sushi I will be thinking of your restaurant, and everything it meant to me.
