I have to say Richard's may be the best restaurant in Boise. I have been going to cafe vicino a long time so naturally I was xcited. It was top notch 5 star the entire meal. I got the ceaser to start . It was fresh, crisp, and definitely home made . I went with the rigatoni and it was unreal. The flavor on the pasta was something I had never tasted before. Absolutely fantastic from the scallop appetizer to clam linguine to amazing cheesecake! I'll focus on the cheesecake because I was really bugged by the bad cheesecake review I read. Oh my what happened to Richards. Our first experience at the new lovely site. All I can say is I'm not going back anytime soon. Poor poor slow service. Water came. Waitress came with menus. Then we waited and waited finally the waitress came and got drink orders. Then we waited and waited.... food was only quite average , nothing outstanding. Pathetic side of spinach, more broth than noodles in the linguine with clams, tasteless dry bread, small plate for a large uninspired clumsy Caesar salad and then nothing for a long time. Waitress came at the end of the meal to ask if the food was good. It was really uncomfortable. Ugh. Not getting my recommendation. read more

Definitely wouldn't recommend. We ordered a stuffed figs wrapped in prosciutto app, and although the figs were tasty, the prosciutto was really think and not cooked properly...not rendered. So all we could taste was the think prosciutto that actually tasted like a cross between spam and bologna. High hopes dashed with poor execution. My wife had the house salad and the special chicken with rice, which was described as the same special from the night before. The problem is the rice tasted like it had been cooked the night before and re-heated for my wife. The chicken was ok, but we definitely expected more flavor. It was kind of bland. On the bright side, the salad was satisfactory. I had the tomato basil soup (which they have been known for since they had a restaurant in the north end years ago (same name), and it was pretty good. I followed that up with the Pappardelle with scallops and saffron cream. The pasta is made in house. Both the pasta and the sauce were pretty good, but the scallops were very gritty. They hurt to eat....definitely not divers scallops and definitely not cleaned well. All in all, skip Richards and opt for Chandlers. read more

I just tried the burger and fries and the burger was fine perfectly and the fries are easily a top 5 of all time. this restaurant not only has delicious food and best service but it has also the nicest staff!!! they took care of me when i came in solo after a busy day for a happy hour - fed me with delicious scallops and refilled my drinks, let me charge my laptop and phone - but best part - they had their manager drive all the way to the airport when they heard that i left my card at the restaurant and was flying out back to San Francisco that night! i still can't believe it - this was the nicest thing restaurant staff ever did for me and would never happen outside of Boise!! thank you so much, Richard's, you made my day! read more

Nothing can ruin a brunch with my best friends. We decided to go to Richard's and then a movie. First, our bottomless mimosas were ignored, the waiter "lost our order before the kitchen got it", and we spent extra time waiting for our food which took over an hour to arrive to our table. The manager walked passed our table at least 5 times, the restaurant was in NO WAY crowded, and we were not served well for the price we paid. $120 for subpar service and basic brunch- not worth it! Will not go back. If anyone would have acknowledged the bad service and offered in ANY way to make it right, I would not be so harsh. Learn some etiquette, Richard's. Make things right for your guests. Like I said, nothing can ruin a brunch with my best friends, this came very close! read more

We arrived without a reservation but we were seated quickly. The were 2 other tables occupied. We waited 15 minutes before a waiter walked past us. My friend said hello to the waiter of which he replied, hello, as he continued to walk past our table. He later returned and told us that our waitress would be over shortly. We all ordered the Cannelloni which was very good but arrived lukewarm. It was very disappointing since I have heard great things about this restaurant. I made reservations for a special occasion Sunday Brunch for my mom's 79th Birthday. This is a place with great reputation in a new hotel. We could not have been more disappointed. The menu was really uninspired, and when our omelettes arrived, that was it! Omelette & toast were all that was on the plate. No fruit, no potatoes, not even a plate garnish! Formerly Cafe Vicino located in the Boise Co-Op complex, has been one of my favorite Boise resteraunts for years. The shrimp risotto in basil cream sauce is AMAZING! Well with a friend visiting from out of town, my partner, and a few friends decided to try out the new location in the Inn at 500 hotel. The decor has been significantly been updated and is modern, chic, and very inviting. The staff is very highly trained at service in a fine dining atmosphere. We tried several wines including a prosecco and a Sauvignon Blanc, both were exceptional and perfectly paired with our meals. My friends tried out the scallops and my partner had the clams. Everything was delicious. I was thrilled to see that the menu prices had not increased and my favorites were prepared exactly as before. After our lunch we took a guided tour of the hotel which also is amazing. It features very unique local art, themed rooms and even an animal friendly floor (the 3rd floor), something I have never encountered at much more expensive hotels such as the Sofitel Water Tower in Chicago, or the Plaza in New York. All in all I have to give the entire experience 5 stars and I highly recommend both the resteraunt and the hotel to all the new additions to our bustling little city. Fantastic! read more

Excellent experience from start to finish! Our server, Reese, was so welcoming and so knowledgable about every dish on the menu. He was attentive without hovering. Outstanding service. Great wine and spirits! The portions are perfect. They allow for one to have appetizers and entrees and dessert without feeling over-stuffed. Potato chips are to die for! House salad with the green olive dressing is just so delicious.Prosciutto wrapped chicken is the shining star of the menu! The lobster and risotto melts in your mouth. Service was great, we kept mentioning what great timing when staff would bring out food after our appetizer, bread, salads were done, waters kept filled and drinks. I ordered the ribeye med rare with kale and fingerling potatoes and my wife ordered the pork chop with cabbage. The steak was decent enough but I was sad to see for $42 it wasn't pan seared (seemingly) to create that wonderful Maillard reaction which gives steak that distinctive browning flavor like you get at other fine steak house restaurants. At best it compared to a ribeye from Goodwood, didn't feel it was worthy of $42 The highlight of the night was the pork chop with brine which was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The charred cabbage was surprisingly good also. I highly recommend it & was well worth every penny. For drinks we had wine and I had an old fashioned which while good, I was disappointed they didn't use a solid cube of ice for the drink, but rather filled it with ice. Take note and go to Gridiron or Fork to see how they make theirs! Overall good experience, smaller than expected, so reserve a booth if you can. read more

Such a disappointment. Food seemed to have way too much sodium as I felt so sick afterwards. Price too high for the lame quality of food.

I have been wanting to dine here ever since they opened, it saddens me that I waited this long. Our server, Andrew, was incredible and extremely knowledgeable. His demeanor was courteous and impeccable. His suggestion of a glass of wine to accommodate my meal would have never entered my mind, but it was a perfect choice. Our appetizer, the shrimp risotto cakes were to die for and my meal of the prosciutto chicken must have been prepared by angels. Thank you so much for the awesome experience. And that is not my favorite way to approach dining out, like I am grading them or something. I don't consider myself a critic, so i hope this honest review may be helpful. First, WOW what a beautiful, new facility. Love the lighting and decor. Just walking in there felt like we were transported to a restaurant on a cruise ship, or somewhere besides our home town, and that is really fun if you enjoy that sort of thing, and we do. We enjoyed a martini in the bar while we waited for our friends to arrive. That might have been the best darn martini I have ever had...Wow again. Grey Goose with blue cheese stuffed olives. Very nice lady behind the bar made us feel welcomed. So far, so good. All of the restaurant staff were very pleasant throughout our dining experience. Service was top notch and our server was friendly and professional. Food quality was outstanding. I had a Caesar Salad and Cannelloni. Delicious. This is definitely a high-end dining experience, and I totally get that some might not find enough value in this concept to justify the higher cost. What great meals! We were fortunate to enjoy three meals at Richard's on our trip to Boise this week. Our first meal was amazing--from the scallops, shrimp & risotto cakes, beet salad and tomato basil soup to the main dishes of prosciutto wrapped chicken and duck confit, as well as the dessert of apple marscapone mousse cake and panna cotta... everything was delicious! We stopped in for brunch on Saturday and had the most delicious brunch bread (filled to the brim with pancetta), stuffed figs, breakfast pasta carbonara and burger. The breakfast carbonara was amazing, so incredibly savory and creamy...We rounded out our visit is a pasta-centric dinner, we had chips and nuts over drinks, refreshed our palates with the pickled veggies, then salads, and shared pasta family style--clam linguine, cannelloni, ravioli with basil pesto, and sweet potato gnocchi. My absolute favorite was the clam linguine, but the sweet potato gnocchi reminded me of all I ever hoped that thanksgiving sweet potato casserole SHOULD be. Our night closed out with the tiramisu cheesecake, profiteroles and walnut chocolate torte. So I went with my parents this evening to celebrate my dad's 88th birthday it was our first time being at the new Richards restaurant my parents and I had gone to Richards and Richards across the street for many many years when he first started we walked in tonight the Decour was nice we were seated near the door which wasn't bad because it had double doors so you don't get the blasting wind in . Our waiter who never bothered to introduce himself was very very tall and seemed okay at first I asked for several wines that weren't available I wanted something sweet and soft didn't have that so I had to have lacrema instead that wasn't so bad I didn't know it was a portend of things to come I wanted an appetizer it was underdone and was not very good it was the flatbread and I'm not sure what the sauce was on it but it was weird it was a blend of pickled vegetables and a spread of lentil purée it was very weird . I ordered the cannellini with chicken my mom ordered the cannellini with salmon my dad order the chicken with prosciutto unbeknownst to us the chicken with prosciutto was their longest time cooking so the meals came out the salmon as you can see in the picture was so dry it flaked off, my chicken I took one bite of the chicken and I couldn't even chew it so I had to spit that into my napkin and then my dad who's old and deaf is breaking into his chicken and prosciutto and it's inedible so obviously all those things died in the window because the plates were so boiling hot you couldn't even touch them so I asked for refry on my chicken my mom asked for refry on her salmon and then my dad could not even cut into his chicken or tried to cut it the chicken with a sharp knife they gave him to no avail and so when my dad complained about his chicken the waiter just kind of stood there like what what would you like me to do that's a long entrée it takes a long time for it so but he was gracious enough to take it off the bill since he didn't eat it it was in edible so my dad ate nothing for dinner. I gave him my refried chicken that he ate. did you offer us a free dessert no did you offer us a free coffee no by the time I think the waiter had pretty much decided that he was done with us never did look us in the eye so I made the comment hey I think next time we go to celebrate something will go to Chandler's because Chandler's we never have this issue about the only thing that was really good was the bread which we asked for butter because they give you all of oil for it I don't like olive oil on my bread and he seem to be put out that we asked for other things it wasn't a lot we asked for butter PS that's your job I really don't feel bad about the five dollar tip that my mother left him she generally leaves a 20% tip but the 5% really reflected his laissez-faire attitude . The dessert menu was nothing to get excited about either it was run-of-the-mill and I saw Richard there when I was there I thought about going and talking to him and then decided to bag it I just won't bother to go back all in all atmosphere . wasn't too bad but the rest of it was a major disappointment. We are staying at the hotel and thought we would give this restaurant a try. We started off with a garden fresh salad and tried both of their dressings, which were very good. I ordered the halibut and my friend the cannelloni. I could definitely recommend the cannelloni, but do not order the halibut. I couldn't eat it. It smelled fishy. It did not flake off and it was served with some of the black under skin still on it. We then ordered a strawberry-rhubarb shortcake and a cup of coffee. The shortcake biscuit was dry, however the berries were good. Maybe needed some fresh whipping cream. Coffee was cold, but they graciously heated it up for us. Out wait person was Kimber. Very nice person. I don't like to complain, but I did let her know that I didn't like it. I was surprised that they didn't offer to bring me something else or adjust the price for the halibut. I suppose we may have just ordered the wrong item. read more

I WAS impressed at how they offered to hang up my coat. I would have given this a 4 star but the seating area itself was so TINY. We were piled on top of each other. Richard's is my favorite restaurant in Boise. It's beautiful, cozy, comfortable, never too loud thanks to the thoughtful interior design; and, we are able to enjoy our favorite booth 99% of the time. The menu is fresh, local, there is an amazing plant-based entree that never disappoints, specials and desserts are enticing. Love those truffle chips, too! Service is exceptional and welcoming. Came here last weekend when my mother was in town. We had late reservations for dinner. Upon arrival, we loved the valet parking, the coat check, and the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were promptly greeted at the table with water, menus, and drinks. Everything was 5 stars + up to this point. After ordering a beet salad to share as an appetizer and our entrees, we proceeded to get super excited for the yumminess that was about to occur. While everything was yummy, nothing was spectacular, special, or unique about our dishes. We had the beet salad, linguine w/manila clams etc, regular linguine, pappardelle, and the Richard's Burger. I am thinking our expectations were too high because when dining at Boise's newest, hottest, and most talked about restaurant, I wanted something spectacular. Something that I would remember for months. I felt the dishes were just okay, something that I could whip up at home. And the pappardelle has no flavoring despite being the first pasta dish on the menu.
