    Sloppy Joe

My son and I were in town for a college visit. We were hungry and looking for a good place to eat lunch in an unfamiliar town. We trusted our handy Yelp app, and found this NY Style sandwich shop. We were greeted and seated quickly. We ordered quickly and our server Madelyn was very sweet. I could hear another table complaining to a waitress and manager how the order was horribly wrong. They ordered breakfast, and we ordered lunch so I was optimistic! I ordered the Sloppy Joe: hot pastrami, roast Turkey and roast beef on rye with cole slaw. I asked to add Swiss cheese as well. I also ordered matzo ball soup. My matzo arrived loaded with a pulled chicken, noodles, and vegetables. There was a large matzo ball dead center. It was really chicken noodle with a matzo ball, not the traditional consommé. That's okay by me! It needed a little salt and pepper, but I enjoyed it. Only negative was no soup spoon. No big deal. That soup would have been a meal for most people. My triple decker sandwich arrived and looked sensational. The sandwich was fresh and delicious. Only negative was no Swiss cheese. No big deal. I wasn't charged for it. They offer homemade chips, which were nice, yet slightly stale. My son enjoyed potato pancakes and a hot pastrami sandwich. We had to ask a few times for pickles, and they eventually came. They were barrel style and whole -- very good. My son raved about the macaroni salad! It was a touch sweet for my taste, but he loved it. This place has really good food, but the service and management needs some polishing. I'm giving 4/5 here because our server tried her best. She was so very nice. I would come back here again when visiting Monmouth University. 10 minutes from campus. Chicken Noodle & Matzo Ball Soup Sloppy Joe

First time to review this long established venue. Just for the record: this used to be the site of the West End Post Office. Since I haven't frequented this place in a while, I perused the menu quite closely. It's still of high-quality but there is one exception: the sandwiches are considerably smaller for the price. What happened? You've been here for years it's time to give back!!!! I ordered a sloppy Joe with corn beef, roast beef, and pastrami I really thought they were bordering mini sandwiches. Ellen, my server, was just ok. The food is good but I AM NOT DRAWN HERE.

The restaurant is large, with white walls that are adorned with framed pictures and knickknacks, multiple lamps hanging from the central ceiling, and tables everywhere. Plush booths that are big enough to fit 4 people line the walls and on the ground, a mosaic-like design can be seen under the 6-person tables. We ordered the following: Daughter had the Eggcado Delight, which has eight grain toast with smashed avocado, two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and chopped bacon bits. It's also served with a small side of home fries. This is daughter's usual go to breakfast with avocado. She said that this was pretty good and tasty. Next Hubs had the Vegetarian Omelette, which has 4 large eggs, mushrooms, onions, pepper and tomatoes. He also got wheat toast. Hubs disputed the size of the 4 large eggs to me. LOL. He said that the meal was ok but could be fluffier. The potatoes were ok but it could use a few onions. His toast was pretty good. Lastly, I had the Waffles and bananas and it was pretty good. Service was friendly and quick. We were glad that we got to try this place and will definitely return in the future to try other items on the menu.

Really nice vibe and terrific menu. We shared a clams casino and they came over the salad of arugula in a mustard dressing that was awesome. Going back again. Loved this place. Great menu with lots of options and fantastic service. Our waiter Corey was excellent, friendly,…read morefun, engaging and very knowledgeable about the menu. They have a massive parking lot and outside the entrance to the restaurant is a nice garden area with a fountain. I think they likely do alot of private events. The restaurant itself is one large room, it looks modern and sleek with really nice new bathrooms when you walk in. The food was very good and the portions were generous. They bring focaccia to the table with olive oil and butter. The focaccia was a little dry, but I am not complaining about free bread. For starters we tried the napolitano flatbread, shrimp scampi (is an entree but we shared it as an app) and eggplant napolitano. Others got the mezze plate, clams oregonata and fig and goat cheese flatbread and loved them all. The napolitano flatbread was very tasty, similar to a pizza. I hate when flatbreads have a thin crust like a cracker and this was the opposite, thick and fluffy. It was fairly large (cut into 6-7 pieces and about a foot long). The shrimp scampi was delicious with 5 large shrimp cooked perfectly. You could not ask for better shrimp and the sauce was divine. We also enjoyed the eggplant napolitano, it was basically eggplant parmigiano (3 large pieces of fried eggplant with cheese in tomato sauce). For entrees we ordered the halibut and twin lobster tails. The halibut and lobster, like the shrimp, were both cooked perfectly and had lovely texture. I liked the parmesan crust on the halibut and the risotto was pleasant (I am just not super into risotto as I think it gets old after a few bites). You can have the lobster steamed or broiled and we went with Corey's recommend of broiled as it comes seasoned and he was spot on. Even without the butter (they put a bowl on the side so you can dip the lobster in it) the lobster had great flavor. For dessert we ordered the fresh apple crumb pie but it was more of an tart. Those we ate it enjoyed it, but said they would not feel the need to order it again. Overall a really nice meal if you find yourself in the area.
