Rick's used to be one of my favorite spots for a date night or dinner with friends, but after today's visit, that changed. The service was great, and our server did everything he could to make our experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, I was heartbroken to learn that a new chef has taken over, completely revamped the menu, and STOPPED SERVING THE BEST APPETIZER IN ALL OF INDIANA: the Chicken Cordon Bleu Fingers. I genuinely have no idea why they would make this decision. These have been on the menu for well over a decade, have a cult following, and are one of the main reasons many people visit Rick's in the first place. Thankfully, our server went above and beyond and found a way to make it happen since they still prepare them for banquets and special events. That alone should tell you how beloved they are. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't fare as well. The risotto was a major disappointment. It was bland, overcooked, and lacked the rich flavor it used to have. The gumbo was also underwhelming, tasting overly tomato-heavy and missing the depth and seasoning you'd expect. Overall, the food quality has noticeably declined. Between the menu changes and the disappointing execution, it's no longer worth the drive or the price point for me. It's disappointing to see a restaurant I once loved move in this direction.
Over the weekend a small group of girlfriends and I went to Rick's Boatyard to enjoy the nice weather. I was fortunate enough to make a last minute reservation on open table (yay!) and we had an excellent table on the patio overlooking the water! It had been a couple of years since my last visit, and was sad to see some of my usual favorites no longer on the menu (I'm looking at you chicken cordon bleu fingers!!!). The vibes were incredible! Unfortunately our cocktails and food were average and honestly lacked a lot of flavor, but I will keep returning for the patio! I will say, parking can also be a nightmare depending on the time of day. They do have a rather big lot, so you may just be driving around for a while. If you happen to park further out, I appreciate they have a golf cart shuttle to the main entrance!
This was my second visit to Rick's, and probably my first time in ten years. I made reservations online for a group of 8 and it was super easy. Day of, the staff called to confirm numbers and where we'd like to sit. Check in was easy, but our seating request hadn't been transferred over, no big deal thankfully. Our waitress was super friendly, and kept well organized. She automatically provided separate checks without even asking. I ordered the roll basket and bacon jam burger. The rolls were fine, but nothing special. The bacon jam burger was super delicious. Overflowing with bacon. My only complaint is I ordered it medium and it came out more medium well to well done. We all agreed we enjoyed our experience and would have to come back again.
Being a lifelong resident of Indiana this is one place I was wanting to try but never was a place I got around to going somehow. Well the time finally came around for Father's Day as a special request and I'll tell you I should of listened to the bad reviews. Unfortunately they're deserving We made a reservation and we're seated right away around 5. The restaurant is huge and tight seating. Pretty cool vibe. Unfortunately we waited 15 minutes to see a server. We needed our booth wiped down so the whole thing started questionable. As you can see from my pictures it wasn't packed. Our waiter finally came, got someone to wipe our booth off and said he'd be right back. Again .... Waiting. He finally comes back and takes our drink order then swiftly walks away instead of taking (or even asking) for our appetizer orders. We sat sooo long we actually had our entire meal ready to give him. The food was mediocre at best. I told him I couldn't have raw onion, including scallions, yet my dip had them. The chicken dip is a watery mess topped with scallions under cheese that's melted. He was gonna send it back, which I was willing to do, but once I looked under the cheese to see a watery grave of chicken dip? made 'fresh'? I declined. It's obvious it's frozen, thawed, slapped with scallions and cheese and melted . I know the 'made fresh' is a cover for sorry it took forever to remember to bring it out. I'm not really sorry being so snippy it's deserved Clam chowder? (yes another question mark) was another complete MISS . Shrimp cocktail and our filets were fresh and huge shrimp were given though . I was honestly praying our steaks would be cooked right and they definitely were! The fisherman's catch could of used some kind of seasoning. My guest kinda tasted some salt at least Overall we had a good time because of our company we had. It was a trial and complete error. I'm almost 100 % sure the menu is the problem. It's so expansive there's just too many items causing the problems. Nothing's gonna be fresh like this. I can't imagine if they were a little packed how the wait time and food time would be. It just really failed all of us
Celebrated a coworker's retirement here with Sunday brunch, and I didn't even realize they offered brunch until this visit. It ended up being such a nice experience! We sat on the patio, and although the shades were closed earlier in the day, they opened them later once the weather warmed up, which made the vibe even better. Our server was very nice and attentive, especially with our large group. We ordered a half mimosa tower, and I really enjoyed it. I also tried Rico's Coffee from the brunch menu, which was so good and paired perfectly with the brunch vibe. I ordered the French toast platter, which came with four pieces of French toast, scrambled eggs, brunch potatoes, and bacon. It was delicious and so filling that I had to get a to-go box. The yogurt parfait was also really good, and everyone at the table seemed to enjoy their food and drinks, including the Bloody Mary options and tea. We ordered liquid marijuana shots as a group and these were great. One thing to note: we brought a cake for our friend and didn't know there was a $25 outside cake fee, so be aware of that if you plan to bring your own dessert. After brunch, we walked around the beautiful grounds, and a few of us stayed longer on the patio. The high-top seating wasn't the most comfortable, but the drinks and appetizers made up for it. The whiskey sour was good, and we enjoyed the crab cakes, calamari, shrimp, and Rico's dip. This turned into an all-day affair with good food, drinks, beautiful weather, and great company. A really nice spot for brunch, celebrations, and patio time.
This is the first time I've been to Rick's in a while and it didn't disappoint. We met our two friends and their young daughter for dinner. They were so nice and brought out a 'fancy' drink for her to enjoy. (Sprite, grenadine and a cherry) The waitress was so nice and the food came out quickly. So good!
Met a group of friends for dinner, a party of 20. Our server was great getting our drinks and food orders going, she was quick and attentive for us all. We ordered the Calamari appetizer which is a 5 star always, so tender, and good. The rest of the food was not great for me. I ordered the crab stuffed Orange Roughy. It was very strong and I had a hard time eating it. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were ok, so I focused on that. I really have a hard time with Ricks as the food can be a hit or miss. Hubs liked his grilled tenderloin sandwich.

Sept 2024: Went last Wed for a work lunch, group of 10. Had an rsvp and they were good about following up the confirmation. Haven't been in several years. Service was great, food was tasty (a bit high priced, sandwhiches ok at $18 but most meals nearing 30 and higher). The ambiance on the patio on a gorgeous day with the water view simply can't be beat. Too bad it was work, because a glass of wine or a cocktail out here would have been delightful. If you are looking for a place with a view and a large outside space - then give Rick's a try. We tried had the fried calamari and baked goat cheese. Both were good. I had the fish and chips for my main - again, good. Our server was very nice. Definitely got swarmed by bugs - but hey, it was summer. read more

We decided to visit Rick's Cafe Boatyard for lunch on a Monday (inquire about their deals on wine bottles if you go on a Monday). I hadn't visited this establishment in over 5 years. When I tell you it has made a complete transformation, I am not lying! They remodeled and made a ton of upgrades in the last couple of years and it has definitely boosted the overall ambiance of the restaurant! We opted to sit on the deck/patio and it was a great decision! We were able to comfortably overlook the reservoir from the table we were seated at. The food portions were surprisingly large and worth the price. We got a stater called, Rico's Dip for the entire table. I got the Boatyard Burger and my daughter got the kids chicken tenders and fries. Our server was very kind. Service was a bit slow, but they seemed a little short staffed at the moment. read more

They recently upgraded their drink menu and have a lot of amazing variety of drinks. A couple months ago we came for a double date and my fiancé got the scallops and raviolis and it looked amazing. So when we went last week for dinner I ordered it and the raviolis were falling apart when they brought the dish out. I was sad. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner at Rick's Cafe Boatyard! After a long work week this was exactly what we needed. Beautiful patio spot with Eagle Creek water view. It felt like we were dining at a vacation spot in Florida. The drinks were great, we ordered the crab cake appetizer and ate it up so fast we forgot to snap a picture! Service was good the staff seem to be the local high school students but they did a great job! Definitely recommend checking out and eating on the patio - it was packed so we suggest making reservations. Cheers! read more
The food was really good! Our Cacklin Chicks went today for Brunch! RJ was our waiter and did a great job! My friend had the Bloody Bloody Mary.Bacon, olives, celery, shrimp and of course, Bloody Mary mix. It looked really good! A few of us had the Western Omelette. Some had chicken and waffles. The food at Ricks is AMAZING always. The service was great. He was attentive and gave wonderful recommendations! The ambiance is spectacular. They have indoor and outdoor seating. You're sitting right next to the water and it's the perfect place for anniversaries, family dinners, birthdays or just a a regular lunch or dinner! They offer an amazing brunch menu and have mimosa TOWERS! You can split between 8 people. There is plenty of parking on site. read more

My family & I decided to celebrate my grandmothers 75th birthday! Our server David was absolutely amazing, mind you it was a good 15 of us and he got all of our drinks and meals in without writing them down! He was super fast and very focused. Everyone who got cocktails was very pleased, and everyone's food was amazing. The energy of the location was very chill. The people around our table were also super nice and friendly. The table next us was also celebrating a birthday and shared their cake with my grandmother. We also shared our ice cream birthday cake with the tables around us so everyone had a great time. This restaurant used to be so good about 8 years ago with a beautiful water view and great service and food but unfortunately it has slowly declined in service and quality and for the amount you are paying it's just not acceptable. I was there about 6 months ago with a group and we sat outside by the bar area. Every 10 mins or so there were crashing of plates from table being bussed or plates falling and breaking. The service was terrible, it took a long time to get any. The food was good but when it came time to pay our server came with a portable card reader and each of us paid without him giving us our bill or informing us there was already a gratuity added. Tonight I went there with another group and they sat us upstairs. There was a big party event going on and it was so loud up there. It took about 20 mins before our server attended to us. The food was ok. When it came time to pay once again our server came with the portable card reader. We were all talking and didn't realize that he hadn't given us our bill so when we asked for them he had 2 of our bills charged wrong. He added a side salad I never had for $6. And charged my friend for bacon and cheese $4 extra on her salad, he had asked her if she wanted bacon and cheese without telling her there was an up charge for it. All I say is if you decide to go make sure you check what they charge you for. And be expected to pay a lot for poor quality and service. Sitting next to the water at Rick's is like being on vacation. The sun shimmers on the water. On a beautiful winter day, I forget about the cold. I had lunch yesterday. The dining room is welcoming and decorated for Valentine's Day. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I had a lunch of seafood chowder and the wedge salad. The chowder is thick and packed with clams. It was very good. The Wedge Salad is enormous with generous amounts of thick bacon, chucks of blue cheese and grape tomatoes. It was the best wedge salad that I have had. The menu is well rounded with seafood, meat and vegetarian options. Prices are reasonable. They are renovating the decks so it will be nice during the summer to sit outside. There is plenty of parking. read more

I've tried so many dishes here, and it never disappoints! This time we got the crab stuffed mushrooms appetizer which was my favorite part! The melted cheese and sauce was amazing. I tried the sticky ribs which had a little spicy, was very tender and crispy on the outside. My husband got the steak with crab, wine sauce, and asparagus on top. We cleaned our plates! The service was fast and friendly. I recommend booking a reservation online before going to get the outside seating. The view of eagle creek during sunset is beautiful! read more

I've been here more times than I can count with my two hands and I can honestly say, the crab cakes have always been the most consistent. They are full of jumbo lump crab and minimal filler (typically the issue with Indy crabcakes) this time my daughter ordered them and subbed the wild rice for coconut rice. She dislikes apparently now both rice options however, I found my new rice choice lol. I opted for the crab cake sandwhich with asparagus as my side-phenomenal. Oh we also ordered the porkchops (amazing & clearly a third meal to take home), bacon wrapped scallops (should be a dinner option with sides because they're THAT GREAT) and lastly two orders of the oysters Rockefeller. This was my daughter's first time having the O.R. here and the first order of 5 ended up not being enough lol. She especially loved the bacon bits in the spinach & parm mixture! 10/10 service as well as ambiance. No wait for a last minute pop up at Rick's Boatyard on Mother's Day for the win! We were seated in the bar area however we lucked up on a end booth with a great view of the water. Due to going at lunch time on a holiday, it was extremely busy, unfortunately resulting in slower service. The food was amazing, which made the extended wait times not an issue. read more
Rick's Boatyard is located in the Eagle Creek area. There is ample parking, but can get full in the evening, especially in the warmer months. Service is typically quick. There is seating with TVs inside and outdoors. If you're lucky enough, you can sit close to the water to see th beautiful sunset. We ordered the clam chowder, crab pizza, wedge and cessation salad. Usually when I try something new, I say "this is my new favorite place", but this truly is one of my favorite places in Indy. We stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and it was a perfect day to eat on the patio. The view is amazing. The food was good too. They did fill up really quickly and there was a line as they opened, so I would suggest a reservation. It's really easy to make one directly from their website. I can't wait until the weather warms up again so I can go back for brunch again. They do also have an extensive dinner menu and a food truck outside as well called Rico's Snack Shack. They also have some holiday options as well like Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day. read more

Traveling through Indianapolis. Got a tip to check this place out! Man am I glad I did. Always eat at the bar if I can. The bartenders are usually really cool and Brittany was great! We had a wonderful evening at Rick's. We sat outside and had a lovely view. The food was very tasty and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommend the crab cake hush puppy appetizer. The service was very friendly but not the most prompt. Luckily with that view, we were not in a rush! read more

I have been to Rick's many times and I think the secret is the ambiance, location, and service. It's definitely not the food. The food is honestly just okay. On this day, we came for Sunday brunch without a reservation and were promptly seated in a booth next to the kitchen. Our server greeted us promptly and when asked about the steak fajita, he told us this menu was new but the steak fajita is one of the more popular dishes. So my aunt had that and I had the short rib hash. Our food came out fast. It seemed like less than 10 minutes. It was hot and seemed freshly prepared. My aunt was not impressed with her omelette. The short rib hash was just okay. I love pickled onions, but sauteed or caramelized onions might have been better. This dish was dry. It really could have used a sauce of sorts, maybe a hollandaise. I'm sure we'll keep giving Rick's the annual try in hopes that the food improves, but I can't say I'd recommend it for more than a cocktail on their patio in the summer. read more

Love this place! Why don't I go more often? I feel like it's a bit far and isolated but well worth the trip! The view, the vibe, the service and the FOOD!! So good! I went last week with my mom, my daughter, and my niece for a nice summer dinner. We loved it. Our server was Lonnie and he was great. He was knowledgeable about the menu and helpful when we had questions. My daughter and my niece started with some delicious mocktails (almost 21 but not yet) which were not only yummy but beautifully presented. So fancy. Then came the show stopper which was the baked goat cheese appetizer! 10/10 all day long. Just order it. We were a diverse group with our entrees and honestly each person was so happy with her choice. We also did lots of sharing (so fun) and it was just really really tasty. I had the Mahi mahi over soba noodles and veggies and I would hands down get that again. My mom had the fried catfish with french fries and coleslaw and she was over the moon about it. My daughter had the rico burger with fries and said it was incredibly delicious. She had it cooked medium, and it was perfectly done. And finally, my niece had probably what was the standup dish of the night for the entrées, which was the beef short rib grilled cheese on sourdough bread. We were too full for dessert (sadly) because the choices looked delish. All of this to say a big thumbs up for Rick's!!! read more

I have lived in Indy my entire life and don't know how I have never been here before! The view was amazing and the patio area was huge! I ordered an espresso martini to begin with. I consider myself an espresso martini enthusiast and this was one the better ones I have had. It was a perfect mix of espresso, coffee liquor, vodka, and cream. My friend ordered a hot coffee drink with Amaretto and Kahlua and oh my gosh was it amazing! I am normally not a hot coffee drinker but I would have definitely ordered this drink, even on a hot day. I ordered the bacon and crab skillet and it was delicious! It came on a hot skillet with a layer of potatoes, crab pieces, bacon, cheese, scallions, and 2 poached eggs on top. The flavors were all paired perfectly together and I ate the entire dish. Would definitely come back again for brunch and cannot wait to try their dinner! read more

We love going to Rick's Boatyard overlooking Eagle Creek Reservoir to dine on their gorgeous, large, covered deck built close to the water and docks. You need to go inside to the lobby to request indoor or patio seating. The outdoor bar is first come, and you can dine at the bar. We pulled up, and the parking lot was almost full, plus many people standing around the main entrance. We immediately thought we'll never get in. We walked up and requested a table for 2 on the deck and were seated immediately! So don't assume anything by number of cars and crowd. Our server, Erin, was prompt, friendly, and knew the menu well. She had a great personality and was determined to help me receive exactly the order I wanted. And she accomplished exactly that. Excellent server! My husband ordered one of his all-time favorites, The Cajun Tenderloin and house chips. He must have said 7 or 8 times while eating, how delicious and super tender the tenderloin was. He loved his meal. I had so much trouble ordering because I was super hungry, and I wanted 4 or 5 different things. Erin was very patient with me and allowed me the time I needed. I ended up choosing the Baby Iceberg Wedge, which I felt was the perfect portion size for me. Surrounding and topping the lettuce wedge was bleu cheese dressing, and crumbles, smoked bacon, red onions, and 8 or 9 halved Roma tomatoes. The ingredients were fresh and crisp, and if you love bleu cheese dressing and crumbles, you should try this salad. I also ordered the Crab and Ricotta Pizza with lump crab meat, ricotta, spinach, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and pistachio pesto on a thin crust. This was delicious, and I had 1/2 of the pizza for leftovers. I highly recommend it. We hung out a couple of hours and enjoyed a leisurely lunch, cocktails, and great food. The calamari alone is 5 stars I really enjoyed it. You really are paying for the beautiful scenery at Ricks. I've been plenty of times but it was my first time for brunch. We ordered the mimosa tower which is always fun. Our server had a lot of tables but did the best she could. I always have a good time at Ricks. The food isn't fine dining good but it's enough to keep you coming back. read more

We love coming here for birthdays and when family visits. So beautiful. Especially at sunset in the summer. It's just so serene and makes me want a boat!!! The food comes in huge portions so be prepared to eat a lot, take some home, or share meals. Drinks are always tasty. They changed their menu up since we came last and I'm really loving the new foods we tried today :) they have brunch on weekend until 2pm as well. I recommend getting a reservation in advance as they get busy on weekends and evenings. read more

As long as you don't let them run wild and keep them under control, there's no reason that you can't bring them!
Do the brunch and main menu overlap or is it just brunch menu on Sundays until brunch hours are over?

We were there for lunch and shorts and jeans wrere perfect. It is not fancy outside on the deck...I would say evenings indoors could be dressier OR not. Very informal vibe.
