Rick's used to be one of my favorite spots for a date night or dinner with friends, but after today's visit, that changed. The service was great, and our server did everything he could to make our experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, I was heartbroken to learn that a new chef has taken over, completely revamped the menu, and STOPPED SERVING THE BEST APPETIZER IN ALL OF INDIANA: the Chicken Cordon Bleu Fingers. I genuinely have no idea why they would make this decision. These have been on the menu for well over a decade, have a cult following, and are one of the main reasons many people visit Rick's in the first place. Thankfully, our server went above and beyond and found a way to make it happen since they still prepare them for banquets and special events. That alone should tell you how beloved they are. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't fare as well. The risotto was a major disappointment. It was bland, overcooked, and lacked the rich flavor it used to have. The gumbo was also underwhelming, tasting overly tomato-heavy and missing the depth and seasoning you'd expect. Overall, the food quality has noticeably declined. Between the menu changes and the disappointing execution, it's no longer worth the drive or the price point for me. It's disappointing to see a restaurant I once loved move in this direction.
Over the weekend a small group of girlfriends and I went to Rick's Boatyard to enjoy the nice weather. I was fortunate enough to make a last minute reservation on open table (yay!) and we had an excellent table on the patio overlooking the water! It had been a couple of years since my last visit, and was sad to see some of my usual favorites no longer on the menu (I'm looking at you chicken cordon bleu fingers!!!). The vibes were incredible! Unfortunately our cocktails and food were average and honestly lacked a lot of flavor, but I will keep returning for the patio! I will say, parking can also be a nightmare depending on the time of day. They do have a rather big lot, so you may just be driving around for a while. If you happen to park further out, I appreciate they have a golf cart shuttle to the main entrance!
This was my second visit to Rick's, and probably my first time in ten years. I made reservations online for a group of 8 and it was super easy. Day of, the staff called to confirm numbers and where we'd like to sit. Check in was easy, but our seating request hadn't been transferred over, no big deal thankfully. Our waitress was super friendly, and kept well organized. She automatically provided separate checks without even asking. I ordered the roll basket and bacon jam burger. The rolls were fine, but nothing special. The bacon jam burger was super delicious. Overflowing with bacon. My only complaint is I ordered it medium and it came out more medium well to well done. We all agreed we enjoyed our experience and would have to come back again.
Being a lifelong resident of Indiana this is one place I was wanting to try but never was a place I got around to going somehow. Well the time finally came around for Father's Day as a special request and I'll tell you I should of listened to the bad reviews. Unfortunately they're deserving We made a reservation and we're seated right away around 5. The restaurant is huge and tight seating. Pretty cool vibe. Unfortunately we waited 15 minutes to see a server. We needed our booth wiped down so the whole thing started questionable. As you can see from my pictures it wasn't packed. Our waiter finally came, got someone to wipe our booth off and said he'd be right back. Again .... Waiting. He finally comes back and takes our drink order then swiftly walks away instead of taking (or even asking) for our appetizer orders. We sat sooo long we actually had our entire meal ready to give him. The food was mediocre at best. I told him I couldn't have raw onion, including scallions, yet my dip had them. The chicken dip is a watery mess topped with scallions under cheese that's melted. He was gonna send it back, which I was willing to do, but once I looked under the cheese to see a watery grave of chicken dip? made 'fresh'? I declined. It's obvious it's frozen, thawed, slapped with scallions and cheese and melted . I know the 'made fresh' is a cover for sorry it took forever to remember to bring it out. I'm not really sorry being so snippy it's deserved Clam chowder? (yes another question mark) was another complete MISS . Shrimp cocktail and our filets were fresh and huge shrimp were given though . I was honestly praying our steaks would be cooked right and they definitely were! The fisherman's catch could of used some kind of seasoning. My guest kinda tasted some salt at least Overall we had a good time because of our company we had. It was a trial and complete error. I'm almost 100 % sure the menu is the problem. It's so expansive there's just too many items causing the problems. Nothing's gonna be fresh like this. I can't imagine if they were a little packed how the wait time and food time would be. It just really failed all of us
Celebrated a coworker's retirement here with Sunday brunch, and I didn't even realize they offered brunch until this visit. It ended up being such a nice experience! We sat on the patio, and although the shades were closed earlier in the day, they opened them later once the weather warmed up, which made the vibe even better. Our server was very nice and attentive, especially with our large group. We ordered a half mimosa tower, and I really enjoyed it. I also tried Rico's Coffee from the brunch menu, which was so good and paired perfectly with the brunch vibe. I ordered the French toast platter, which came with four pieces of French toast, scrambled eggs, brunch potatoes, and bacon. It was delicious and so filling that I had to get a to-go box. The yogurt parfait was also really good, and everyone at the table seemed to enjoy their food and drinks, including the Bloody Mary options and tea. We ordered liquid marijuana shots as a group and these were great. One thing to note: we brought a cake for our friend and didn't know there was a $25 outside cake fee, so be aware of that if you plan to bring your own dessert. After brunch, we walked around the beautiful grounds, and a few of us stayed longer on the patio. The high-top seating wasn't the most comfortable, but the drinks and appetizers made up for it. The whiskey sour was good, and we enjoyed the crab cakes, calamari, shrimp, and Rico's dip. This turned into an all-day affair with good food, drinks, beautiful weather, and great company. A really nice spot for brunch, celebrations, and patio time.
This is the first time I've been to Rick's in a while and it didn't disappoint. We met our two friends and their young daughter for dinner. They were so nice and brought out a 'fancy' drink for her to enjoy. (Sprite, grenadine and a cherry) The waitress was so nice and the food came out quickly. So good!
Met a group of friends for dinner, a party of 20. Our server was great getting our drinks and food orders going, she was quick and attentive for us all. We ordered the Calamari appetizer which is a 5 star always, so tender, and good. The rest of the food was not great for me. I ordered the crab stuffed Orange Roughy. It was very strong and I had a hard time eating it. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were ok, so I focused on that. I really have a hard time with Ricks as the food can be a hit or miss. Hubs liked his grilled tenderloin sandwich.

Big place, and we were able to walk in and get seated immediately on thanksgiving day. Plus we ordered and it was out so quick, was very helpful as we had a plane to catch. service was fantastic and friendly. The view is great. The food was not bad. The bread and butter to start was good. Ordered the shrimp scallop linguini and was good just needed quite a bit of salt and pepper which was on the table. Good portion. Kids had pizza and fries. It's always tough to rate a place when you have 13 family and friends at the table but Rick's Cafe Boatyard pulled it off. It started with Krista our waitress. She was phenomenal in that she was very patient, very informative and EXTREMELY nice. I'd like to nominate her for employee of the month to be able to put up with 13 folks with lots of different tastes and lots of questions. She handled it all with a smile and most friendly manner. The food was phenomenal. A wide variety of options. Most went with a seafood dish. I had the Grilled Fisherman's Catch...Mesquite grilled Atlantic salmon, half lobster tail, jumbo shrimp and scallops, and coconut rice. The majority went with the seafood but a few went with pork and chicken. NOBODY was disappointed. So, long and short is you must check it out. Also, if you get a chance, ask to go out on the deck with a very nice view of the Eagle Creek Reservoir. Just a beautiful location with beautiful food and beautiful service!!! Rick's Boatyard continues to be one of my go-to spots in Indy for a solid mix of great food, a gorgeous view, and a vibe that can flex between casual and celebratory. My husband and I came here on Friday, May 16th around 7 PM to celebrate our anniversary. Even though it was graduation weekend and very crowded, we were seated right away thanks to his reservation. Pro tip: make a reservation, especially during busy seasons. Food & Drink: I ordered the Five Pepper Chicken Fettuccine, but swapped the chicken for six jumbo grilled shrimp and WOW. The shrimp were grilled to perfection with this slightly charred finish that paired beautifully with the creamy pasta. Hands down the highlight of the meal. I also had the Peach Bellini Mocktini, which was refreshing, fruity, and just the right touch of fancy without the alcohol. My husband tried the Bee Sting cocktail and said it was solid. I tasted it too. If you're into strong tequila-forward drinks, this one won't disappoint. Rick's is not shy with their pours. Atmosphere & Service: We sat indoors but still had a beautiful view of the lake. The indoor space is cozy but elevated, and it feels like a place where you could come in jeans or dress up for a birthday dinner. Despite how packed it was, our service was attentive and kind. Everyone seemed to be moving fast but still making space for care, which I appreciated. Note: The weather was wild with severe thunderstorms, but they had valet service available, which was a nice touch. My husband didn't use it, but it was great to know it was an option. Parking can be a little tight, but honestly, it's always worth it for the food and experience. Final Thoughts: Rick's is just a reliable fave. I've done date nights, girls' nights, birthdays, and casual meetups here and it always delivers. The location, the food, the drinks, the versatility. It's a staple. read more
Get the dessert!!!! Save room, split a meal. The food was great, the shrimp tacos had corn tortillas, guacamole, beans and excellent flavor. But dessert! That is where you need to be. We celebrated our ladies night here on a Thursday night and the waiter took care of our large group outside. I tried the jalapeño pineapple mule and it was made very well. I would have it again. We started with several appetizers: studded mushrooms, crab hush puppies, and the calamari is must have! I have never had calamari quite like it here! I had the beet salad for the first time and it was delicious. The pork chops are seasoned very well. It's a great location, with outdoor seating to enjoy a beautiful view. We visited Rick's on Saturday, and it was a great dining experience! Our meal started with the gumbo which was perfect for my husband since it didn't have shrimp or any shellfish in it because he's allergic. For our main entrees, my husband ordered the catfish, while I opted for the beef short ribs with a loaded baked potato. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. Finally for dessert, my husband ordered and took home a 4 tired carrot cake with cream cheese icing and it was also delicious. Where we sat, although freezing outside the sun reflecting off the water was the perfect backdrop for the ambiance. The service was outstanding, with our waiter going above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We had a table of 10 and we felt truly welcomed and well taken care of. If you're looking for great food and great service, Rick's is definitely the place to go. We'll be back for sure! read more
Now I could've sworn that stepping through the front door at Rick's was a transportation portal to Florida! Right on the Eagle Creek Reservoir, this restaurant feels like some of the places of my FL hometown. Despite being packed, we were served fairly quickly and with friendly staff. We ordered.... Five pepper chicken pasta (~$20): this was my mom's dish, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. They do not skimp on the chicken with it, so you certainly get your protein in with this dish Short rib grilled cheese ($18): this was the crown jewel I had over a weekend of dining out. The short rib was absolutely tender and complemented well within the cheeses and onions. Watermelon Nojito ($? - I forgot, oops): mocktail time! Those who follow my posts know I love a mocktail moment. This was a watermelon and basil soda basically, and still absolutely delicious This place has been on my try-list for a while and I can't wait to go back again! read more
Rick's is one of those classic restaurants in Indianapolis that everyone just knows about. Located right on the water of the Eagle Creek reservoir the views are fantastic! I went on a Wednesday evening and it was full and the atmosphere was full of life! Our server was very responsive but not overbearing. She was also knowledgeable with a recommendation. We ordered fish of coarse! This is one of the best seafood restaurants in Indianapolis. The food was delicious and the presentation outstanding! read more

Had dinner few nights ago for first time . The server was so sweet and welcoming . Was pretty busy but I was pretty happy with service and how fast food was coming out . Everything I ate was delicious. Def go back with friends and family . If you never been there you should read more
I never have a bad experience here. The staff is friendly. They have updated their bar as of last year and the patio is such a vibe in the summer. The new bar area looks modern and clean. I had the shrimp and bacon jam pizza that was absolutely amazing. It was savory and a little sweet from the jam. My bartender Erin was so nice snd always so welcoming. The bathrooms are super clean. If you want to have valet, the option is there. There are tvs in multiple places so you can always catch sports. My fave foods: short rib risotto, Caesar salad, clam chowder, greens, baked goat cheese, catfish, crab cakes. There's so many regulars here so don't be surprised if you see the same faces :) read more

I haven't been here in a while. My sister and I stopped in for a late lunch and was seated promptly. I was surprised to see new menu items I decided to check them out since I'm a creature of habit. We were offered drinks and our spectacular server Ray provided menu options and asked if were there any food allergies. We ordered our drinks and I got the short rib and gouda grilled cheese and fries. It was delicious. In all it overall great service from all. Surprised not was busy for a Saturday afternoon with plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. Great views with fantastic view of eagle creek. Nice to come in the summer time. read more
We ordered a Thanksgiving meal from here and it was such an easy process from start to finish. Courtney responded promptly to my email and things were seamless. We got turkey breast with gravy, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, green beans with caramelized onions, sage dressing, cranberry sauce, fresh baked bread and butter, and an entire pumpkin pie. It was delicious!! They didn't cut corners on this meal. The rub they used one the turkey made it even better than it already was. Just wanted to say thank you to the staff that cooked all of those meals on Thanksgiving. You did a great job! Everyone was very friendly and nice and although Rick's is under construction they had a nice area decorated for Christmas set up. It's a nice place and always busy because it's on Eagle Creek and has great sunsets of boats floating by. In the summer they offered outdoor movies. We saw Twister and it was great! read more

The atmosphere is nice, I started with a watermelon spicy margarita and it was delicious my husband had a draft beer. My husband had the pork chops and said it was pretty tasty although the black beans were dried out. I had the seafood platter and it was cooked perfectly, the only thing that needs improvement is the service she was hardly seen took a bit to get refills and after asking for our bill it was another 25 minutes before she came back. We saw all the other servers but ours. And there was no bussing of the table so everything sat there. read more

I will start off by saying 2 of the 6 people in our group really enjoyed their food. The rest of the experience was pretty terrible. I had what had to be the driest omelette I've ever had in my life which is impressive since it had cheese in it and part of it was covered in one of the blandest salsas I've ever had. My wife enjoyed the parts of her salad that she didn't have to pick out because they were wilted. I get that food can sometimes be hit or miss, but what really soured our brunch was our waiter who would constantly talk over people at the table, trying to finish their sentences instead of just listening. Additionally, my wife tried to waive him down to get some additional salad dressing and he walked by her and said I will get to you in a minute and then proceeded to walk over another table and started taking their order. When he eventually came back, he dropped a to go container in front of my wife who was still eating. She had never asked for a to-go box, she had just wanted more dressing for her salad. When he came back another time, we had to remind him about the dressing again to which we got a "I thought you wanted it to go." Not, I'm sorry or I'll get that for you. Whether we wanted it to go or not, I'm pretty sure he had forgotten it. I don't care how many times a waiter says "my pleasure" if he follows it up by being rude throughout the service (including questioning my child's age when ordering off the kids menu), I get the impression that you want me out of there as soon as possible. What a amazing experience can't wait to go back. There was nine of us everybody got brunch, which was the egg- potato -fruit-meat and biscuit and gravy. I ordered the roasted beet salad. It had red beets and golden beets, mozzarella, lettuce, and a balsamic dressing topped with pistachios it was so me. The big bad bloody Mary's were a hit they had shrimp,cheese, pepperoni,celery,olives and bacon. The regular bloody Mary had olive,cheese, pepperoni and celery. Our server was really good. He kept the drinks flowing. The restaurant is still going through a remodel, but the hostess stand and the bar is finished they are beautiful. Don't let that stop you from coming in. They have the heated patio seating, available or sit inside. The patio overlooks Eagle Creek. read more

Came here for the first time the Saturday before Mother's Day. The restaurant was busy but we had made a reservation through OpenTable. I would highly recommend making a reservation. We were able to get our table within a few minutes of checking in at an outside table with a view of the water. At a table of 4 we all enjoyed our food. There was something for everyone. Our waiter, Fernando, offered great service. We will be back. read more

We wanted to get a bite to eat but something we had not eaten in a while. Our focus shifted to Rick's Boatyard's restaurant. Just on the west side of town not far from I 465 for easy access. I decided on an item I hadn't seen since we last ate at the restaurant. I ordered sticky ribs which was crispy tossed in honey sriracha glaze, fries, and a sesame ginger slaw topped with green onions and sesame seeds fries, and coleslaw. The sauce in my opinion made the meal. The ribs were absolutely delicious. There was also a secret weapon I heard about and wanted try. To my surprise collard greens were well seasoned and tasty. Overall a super mid week meal that was worth the travel. I am not sure if the sticky ribs are seasonal or not but give it a try along with the collard greens. Great job Rick's Boatyard! read more

Parking was great and easy to find ! We were accommodated appropriately as we were a party of 19 with 1 small child . Jacob did a great job with such a large party and the food came out hot , fresh and fast . Also it was prepared exactly how we asked. The catfish was amazing! I typically get the salmon or go for brunch but this was chefs kiss. The eggroll was so good ! The only reason I give this a 3 out of 5 is because there were a lot of gnats in our area which compromised the quality of our experience. read more
It's been a while since the wife and I have died at Rick's boatyard. They have remodeled it. It is absolutely stunning. The view overlooking EagleCreek is delightful. We first set at the bar waiting on our other guest and white we did we probably set 15 minutes or more waiting for someone to take our drink order, they finally did but by that time or guest had arrived Ray was our waiter and he was fantastic. The catfish sandwich was huge and delicious. We also had the stuffed mushrooms which were to die for others had the crabcake sandwich which didn't look all that appetizing in the beef sliders also didn't look that good but no one complained, my wife had the tomato soup which was delicious and I had the chicken gumbo soup which was also good other than the service at the bar or visit was very good and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone read more

Decided to take a girlfriend out for a post lunch after a surgery prior in the week, we decided on Ricks and headed to the patio in some serious heat. Our friend felt more comfortable outside with the return of Covid- and Ricks offered a large, spacious covered patio! I ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and my GF friend was going to try them, but they weren't offered on their GF menu. Our server checked on why it wasn't listed but we assumed there were bread crumbs included in the mix. My friend grabbed the bbq pizza and I snagged the beet salad, thinking it was a smaller portion, but it was huge and most of it went home with me. The views were beautiful and we watched kayakers and paddle boarders all day! The servers were all very nice and colorful, we had a really nice afternoon and it's so important to mention so others can enjoy! read more

As long as you don't let them run wild and keep them under control, there's no reason that you can't bring them!
Do the brunch and main menu overlap or is it just brunch menu on Sundays until brunch hours are over?

We were there for lunch and shorts and jeans wrere perfect. It is not fancy outside on the deck...I would say evenings indoors could be dressier OR not. Very informal vibe.
