This restaurant was a super surprise! It was fairly popular with locals, as I entered it on a Monday morning which is a typically a good sign but in such a small town could mean a lack of restaurants. A waitress said to seat myself and I was happy to oblige. The water and coffee came quickly. The coffee was superb, unusually so! I ordered breakfast and more surprisingly the turkey sausage links were better than any I've had in a restaurant ever. Eggs were done exactly as I'd ordered, hash browns, and rye toast with butter on the side. Dustin, the waiter was fast and personally pleasant... I'd asked him about the sausage brand they used and he looked it up, same as the smiling and way busy Brandy when I inquired about the coffee! Prices were so reasonable I contemplated the drive from Tampa to make it my preferred breakfast place. No kidding! read more

Since new ownership, food quality has gone down. Pancakes are small and thin. Have to order two to make one. Eggs are so small they do not cover toast when getting poached eggs. Whatever they use for frying is awful. Coffee tastes like dishwater. Biscuits are small compared to other restaurants who serve biscuits and gravy. But, the prices are up there. The Food was AWFUL. Ordered the Friday Cod Basket. Fish was hard and very greasy, tartar sauce was minuscule and stale. The hushpuppy was a tough, greasy, undercooked doughball. The fries were pale, limp, and not hot. We told the waitress and she offered to refry the dough balls. UGH! Cost $30. We had one bite of each. No adjustments. We will never return. Went there for lunch. We have eaten breakfast many times. This was our first lunch, and we had the Cod Special. It was awful, extremely greasy, and soggy fries. Grease was dripping off the fish, and the hush puppy was a raw, greasy dough ball, YUCK! Never again, we told the waitress and check-out person, but they did nothing. I detest having to write a negative review. But I just had a less than stellar Rick's experience. At 8 am this morning I walked in, the place was full. That's great, a good sign. As I waited and scoped the place out for a seat the staff saw me standing there. NOT ONE of the staff acknowledged my presence or said anything to me. After several minutes I was getting that invisible feeling. They could/should have at least welcomed me. It's customary to welcome your guests, inquire how many in your party, is this your first visit, etc. The irony is that before I moved away 7 years ago, I ate at this location quite often. Especially when I was dropping my car off at the tire store next door. Well, several more minutes elapsed, and still without ANY attention, nods, waves or notice from ANY of the folks working I turned around and walked out. I COULD have stood there and continued to wait for a seat, but NOT if I wasn't a valued patron. (I took my business to a very popular eatery where I enjoyed a delicious meal with fantastic service). ONE ADDITIONAL THOUGHT - Rick's does not take debit or credit cards. They have signs posted on the doors with this information, to forewarn any cashless customers. The signs mention they do have an ATM for customer use. SO, in this day & age most all businesses accept cards, but for whatever reason Rick's does not. Likely, they don't want to pay the fees to the card service company. Instead, they'll have their paying customers pay the service fee to use their ATM. Sorry, but I'll pass. read more

The last 3 times We have gone to Rick's Cafe has been terrible!! The poor service the first two times we never got waited on at all . And we've sat there waiting over 20 minutes. Unfortunately we told the Cashier we were leaving because of that. Today we decided to give the a try. Bad decision that was. I timed the whole process today 20 minutes before our simple breakfast to come to us. But our breakfast came out in 3 trips. order should have arrived all together. My Husband did check out and he had let one of the owners know how the food and service has dropped off. The Part Owner LiŠA used the same excuse for the past few times "We have been Busy!! They should have trained Wait Staff to keep an open eye on their sections and make their stations smaller. And more importantly train staff on. The whole thing is Your Customers are not being treated or taken care of properly. I'm sorry for this poor review, but a honest review it is. Consistent food and decent prices. Service is usually ok but can be a bit slow when Zephyrhills is inundated with snowbirds. Not a huge fan of the community style tables so I try to get a smaller table. read more

I was made aware of this little joint by my neighbor. If you had no idea that this breakfast/lunch place existed you would pass it on route 54. When you first walk in you get that old mom and pop diner feel. I enjoyed all the funny signs on all of their walls. I noticed that the staff are following all the CDC guidelines and spacing out the tables 6 feet apart, and the staff are wearing masks. We were graciously greeted by our server and ordered our food. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of the food. For A little over $10.00 my Wife and I had an incredible breakfast. My omelette was perfectly cooked and their home fries were delicious. The place is very clean. I will definitely be revisiting this little Gem. read more

My wife and I were out looking to see what else there is in Zypherhills when we found Rick's Cafe. It reminds me of a diner in a small town where everyone knows everyone and after a visit or two if not on the first time you'll feel at home too. I understand it's under a new owner, but Rick is still there like before being Johnny on the spot, cleaning and bussing the tables. It's not the Ritz it's a diner type restaurant that's open for breakfast and lunch. The food isn't super but the portions are good and hot, Fresh and taste good. We've taken friends and family here and never a complaint, but almost always a comment about how fast after someone gets up their table is cleaned for the next, with the joke being who is going to win the customer paying their bill or Rick cleaning the table. We have yet to have a bad meal here, at a place where there is always a friendly face. I can say I've never left there and 5 minutes later he searching for a bathroom like at the Sunrise Eatery or what someone else called 2 Seconds, I think he was talking about the 2 Minute, where you get to hear gentleman walking around singing the Happy Birthday song (with a strong possible Korean accent) to who ever says it's their birthday while banging on a very LOUD GONG. I have been going to Ricks Cafe for over 30 years. I must admit only for breakfast and always good. Today after church we stopped. I decided to order the open faced roast beef over Texas toast. My sister in law ordered the Reuben. My sandwich had a very flat piece of who knows what they called Texas toast. A few slices of tough horrible tasting what looked to be chipped beer. Total waste of money. The Reuben had the same very thin I don't know what bread, 1 slice of corned beef and also was awful. I was told the place just sold and was under new ownership. IDK Last straw, when leaving we say staff including the cook sitting outside smoking. Yes she still had the gloves on and not only smoking but touching the garbage cans. French toast consisted of two pieces of what could be considered WonderBread made into French toast. Absolutely nothing excessive. Even coffee cup is small. This restaurant belongs in one of the hobbit movies because of size but then again hobbits like to eat. If you're looking for some good breakfast at fair prices you'll be happy at Rick's. When you come in there is no hostess to seat you, just look for an open table and help yourself. They have pretty much all your standard breakfast foods and I haven't found anything super special about the food other than it's consistently good.
