Yes, we go to Rick's every couple of weeks for lunch. It's because the sandwiches are consistently the best in the area. And the constant line at lunch proves it! Today for the first time I tried the John Gotti. Excellent as all sandwiches usually are. We've worked our way thru just about the entire menu in the past couple of years. Not a bad, or even unsatisfactory, choice in the house. Just as exceptional as the food is the service. I look forward to seeing Julissa each visit. Wow! I used to live at apartments within walking distance and never even knew about this place! (And I used to literally walk past it on the opposite side of the street when I'd walk with my kids to gymnastics... that's embarrassing.) I moved to another place in South Reno about 3 years ago but in the last year I started working in this area again and I can't believe this place wasn't really on my radar! They need better signage or something... I found them when I decided I wasn't in the mood for the Mexican food place I usually hit up for lunch. I think if the business updated their menu design and included some photos of their sandwiches that would help them out a lot and draw more interest. Perhaps their signage could use an update and/or fresh paint to be more vibrant. I can't say I NEVER saw their business but I must have assumed they produced the type of sandwiches one could just easily put together at home or something. This place uses bread that's got that fresh bakery taste with that desirable chew. My sandwich tasted fresh and was assembled well. They even have large chocolate chip cookies for sale (the ones that taste like they have a higher flour to sugar ratio). Overall, I am planning to order here again-- yum! read more

Staff were super friendly and helpful, suggesting bread for specific sandwiches. Our 2 sandos took about 10 minutes to come out, both were hot and tasted fresh. I got the philly cheesesteak and my small gripe was that the beef was on the dry side. Still had great flavor so only a small issue. The wife had no complaints with her pastrami. A solid lunch spot but be aware they only have limited weekday hours. read more

Still great! I've been grabbing lunch whenever I'm in the area at Ricks Delicafe for a really long time. In fact I think it use to be named something else when I first visited way way back. Anyhow the service is always great! Super friendly nice gal at the register with a smile took my order. My go to is the Wall Street on Dutch with a thin slice of raw onion. Was just as tasty as always. Not sure what type of sauce they use on it but it's so freaking delicious. It's always fun to look at the gangsta pics around the place and think what it would have been like to live back then. Just as a side note, sandwich chips and a drink with tax slightly over $20 so for sure not cheap but the quality is worth it in my book! read more

Busy lunch spot in industrial area. A lot of people ordering to go. We got there just after 11:30, perfect timing as a crowd of people came after us. We waited at the counter for about 5 minutes before someone came to take our order. We only saw two ladies working in back making orders. We asked if we could order half sandwiches and were told we could. I wanted a grilled pastrami but was told that didn't come as a half only a full sandwich so I ordered something else. My friend asked if it came with soup or salad and was told no. This was offered on the website but we just got the sandwiches as the line behind us was long and it wasn't on the board menu. I ordered a fountain drink and my friend ordered a water. We paid and went to get our drinks. The ice didn't come out and the machine started making noise so we just got our drinks and sat down to wait for our orders. I heard the girl at the counter tell another customer the fountain machine wasn't working so I guess she saw there was no ice coming out but once the line was gone made no move to replenish the ice. Our orders were delivered in about ten minutes and were satisfactory with fresh bread. A little disappointed to not get a salad or soup and the sandwich I wanted. I had *THE* most amazing sandwich today! It was epic. It was what other sandwiches hope to be when they grow up. It was savory, spicy, fresh, cheesy... in a word, it was lengen.... (wait for it)..... DARY! There are so many delis in South Reno, I'm always in a tough spot trying to pick when I'm in this part of town. I hadn't had Rick's in a while and decided to go for the Yelp-recommended John Gotti, which has ALL THE THINGS. Of course I went for Dutch Crunch because duh. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and so very tender. The red onion and anaheim peppers added some beautiful flavor, while the tomato and sprouts came in with the freshness. Bacon was... deliciously bacon, as always! Cheese was sooooo stretchy (check out the photo) and the absolute kicker was that Chipotle aioli. I'm ready to drown in that stuff, it's so effing good. I forgot how much I love Rick's - the sandos, the people, everything! And yes, after tax and tip this tasty sando was about $16. Worth every penny!! This was massive and I needed a nap after finishing it. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a John Gotti ASAP! read more

Had a hankering for a steak sandwich (warm) and Ive never reviewed this place, so there we go. I did not order over the phone, i actually drove there at lunch (its close to work) and it was quick! It was fairly busy (2 people in front of me) but i placed my order and waited. The lady working the counter was very nice and even allowed me to modify my sandwich somewhat (no peppers, extra mayo). The sandwich was really good! Its like the kind of sandwich you would make at home (plenty of meat), fresh produce and a great aioli mayo! I liked it! Good stuff! There isn't many options for lunch by my workplace and Rick's is one of the only places nearby in a blink and you miss it location by a bunch of strip mall style buildings. The inside is small with a handful of tables and the counter. Many of the sandos are named after gangsters and most of the stuff on the walls is gangster themed. Rick's was suggested to me by co workers and at first I thought it was pretty great. The girl who normally works the counter at lunch is super friendly and the first couple times I went there, the sandwiches were fantastic, especially the Ruben and the John Gotti. The Gotti in particular is one of the best chicken sandos I've tried. I was even impressed that one time I tried to call an order in and couldn't get through, she called me back. Unfortunately, another young man who also works that counter sometimes means something is going to go wrong with my order. The first time it was an undercooked, soggy ruben. The second time I ordered the veggie sando "Lucky Luciano" over the phone from him and when I got there, he told me they were out of eggplant. That normally wouldn't bug me but then he doubled down and said he tried to call me, which was a lie and I ended up walking out, with the guy muttering something behind my back as I did. The last time, I tried once again to order the veggie and I ended up sitting there for 10 minutes before they again told me they were out of eggplant. So 2 out of 5 times, the food was good so I will be giving them 2 out of 5 stars. read more

0-2..... I do like the sandwiches but acquiring them has been a real challenge. About a month ago I ordered lunch online and arrived to be informed the online was not working. I didn't have time to wait so I asked for a refund. I was given the run around about that it was actually easier to just dispute the charge with my bank. I came in today but decided to order off the counter..... I waited 30 minutes as the entire room was served. I approached the counter and while she was nice. She said she gave it away to someone else and she didn't know..... I waited another 10 minutes for the food and was told I would get a free meal next time I came in and they would "recognize me"..... couldn't recognize me then and there but the random next appearance I make I'm supposed to be compensated. Are you nostalgic for NYC? Well we are. We were in the city exactly one year ago and my husband found this sandwich shop that happens to be near where we just moved. On our first day off after he found it in yelp we came in. So glad we did. The decor is totally New York with two huge photos of different views of the city. There's rows of old NYC movie photos as well. Very cool. As for the sandwiches, hubby loved his the "Wall Street" I chose to build my own as I'm much pickier than him. Started with the Dutch crunch. I loved the bread and I am very much a bread person. I added just salami, cheddar, tomatoes and avocado. I always have to make sure that it is actual avocado and not guacamole spread. It was real, fresh avocado. If you like tomatoes you'll understand what I mean by saying The tomatoes were extremely red and yummy, just right in ripeness and freshness. The salami was not my favorite kind I prefer dry Italian I think this was Genoa type salami but really I love salami in general. The tastes came together deliciously and I was satisfied. They conveniently have little styrofoam boxes available for you to take half your sandwich to go so you don't have to ask them to wrap it up for you. Can't believe I've lived in Reno since 2006 and never been to Rick's Deli. I dialed up this pretty lady I met working the graveyard shift and took her here on a lunch date. We walked in Thursday around 1130 and my eyes were affixed to the walls of a beautiful New York skyline. Not going to lie I was also recklessly eyeballing my date, the women's a New York 20! The joint was filled with photographs from some of the best films ever created, Once Upon A Time in America, Heat, and The God Father to name a few. We walked up to the register and were greeted. My gorgeous date order a build her own, and I was locked on The Wall Street. We grabbed a Barq's root beer, shared a bag of cool ranch Doritos, and a seat near the NYC mural. Our sandwiches were quickly delivered and boom! First bite into that warm Dutch crunch, Tri Tip, and smoked cheddar Wall Street was FIREWORKS. Awesome sandwich Rick's. Great food and great service. I did an online order pickup and I arrived a few minutes early. They already had my food ready and I was able to just grab it and go. The staff was a little short with me, but they seemed to be busy, so I'll give them that. The restaurant was clean and modest. And their were quite a few people dining in on a weekday at lunch time. I got the John Gotti and a side salad. The salad was super fresh and crisp and the house made ranch was delicious. I do wish it had a tiny bit less sprouts though, as they were a littler overwhelming. I intended on taking the sandwich home to eat but it smelled so good I couldn't resist digging into it in my car. The bread was still nice and crisp, despite the ample amount of sauce and cheese on the bread. It was a really great sandwich, very decadent. I do wish it had a fresh element to break up the richness, but I would definitely order from here again, although the prices are a bit higher than your traditional sandwich shop. read more

I've been coming to the part of town regularly lately and just noticed this little deli. I like delis and the reviews looked good so I stopped in. It was lunch and and a few people were eating or waiting inside, most of them regulars because everyone knew each other's names. I ordered the Scarface on Dutch crunch bread. The prices were different than the Yelp photos but that's not a big deal. The online menu doesn't have prices but it looks like you can order ahead online and pick it up when you arrive. It didn't matter because they're super quick and the sandwich was ready in minutes. I'm not a bread connoisseur and don't like super crunchy gum destroying bread so it was perfect! Slightly firm on the outside and perfect on the inside. The rest of the sandwich flowed really well together and was quite tasty. I look forward to trying another sandwich next time. read more

Went there for the first time today as I had a doctors appointment right around the corner I'm always looking for a good sandwich spot and holy shit. That was a good sandwich. I had the John Gotti, which was amazing. The two ladies that were working were extremely nice and went over the menu since it was my first time there. I will definitely be back strongly. I was Yelping to find a sandwich shop nearby and decided here. It's also on my way to the hubby's work . Looked online and decided on The Godfather and House turkey both on Dutch crunch. It was only 10:35, and I was the only one in. Looked like they had some to go orders as well. I love Dutch crunch, bread or rolls, when the bread is semi soft with little specs of crispness! The bill was kind of expensive for 2 sandwiches. The sandwiches are big though.... Hubby loves hot sandwiches on a cold day. So I dropped his off with our own chips and drink! Came back home to unwrap mine and enjoy! Hubby was surprised that the sandwich was good size! Unfortunately, the roast beef had a lot of tough gristle, and the sandwich started to get soggy.. I've ordered chicken and avocado wraps at many places around town, but nothing stands out like this spot! I just want to come back every week if possible. The cook here is amazing, preparing delicious and perfectly organized chicken wraps. I requested four different ingredients, and the result was to die for. Her food preparation skills are magnificent! The flavors and seasoning will definitely give you a dopamine rush. Even if you order to go they make sure to place all the utensils and napkins. My family member always loves plain sandwiches and guess what? Even that by itself tastes so delicious here. Can't say the same for other delis or fast food places. Everyone, this is the deli to visit it's a must-check-out! Rick's is old school, family run deli. The sandwiches all have cool mafia names and they are all flavorful and of good size. Service is always with a smile and prices are in the same range as any other deli in town. I like the godfather on dutch crunch. That and the meatball sandwich are my go to choices. Immediately walking into Rick's Deli you see the green checkered floors and surrounding pictures of New York! I love the city so I really enjoyed the decor of this restaurant. You can see that frequent customers have relationships with the staff here at Ricks! Everyone was super friendly. I'm pretty simple when it comes to my sandwiches, so I went with the Baby Nelson on sourdough bread. The woman who served us was friendly and helpful when I asked what kind of bread she recommended. She told me the crunchy bread was very crunchy and warned me some people don't like it because it hurts their mouth, I liked the honesty. The sourdough was so soft and delicious! Great sandwiches bring together flavors and textures in perfect harmony, and reading the cleverly named combinations at Rick's Deli sound like an absolute symphony. To say I was excited to get home and enjoy my Lucky Luciano was an understatement. The inside of Rick's Deli pays homage to NYC with sweeping panoramas of the city and photos of popular Italian mob icons. There's a deli case up front that's surprisingly empty, and a simple menu board hanging on the wall behind the counter. There weren't many people dining in, but I saw a lot of takeout, and I understand they do a ton of catering too. Service was VERY friendly, and when I landed on the Lucky Luciano, I enjoyed having my selection affirmed by the employee up front. So who is Lucky Luciano? Or in this case, what is the sandwich? Roasted eggplant, roasted red peppers, pesto and provolone served hot on your choice of bread. A classic combo of delicious flavors which, in the past, have always left me extremely satisfied. Here though, it fell slightly short... Allow me to explain. Sandwiches are a careful balance between textures and flavors. All the ingredients have to come together to form the perfect bite. With this sandwich, I was hoping for crunchy bread, bright pesto, tender eggplant, sharp provolone and the sweet charred flavor of the roasted peppers, but unfortunately this ended up being a combination of soft and tender textures that sort of mushed together, and overall it was a bit under seasoned. I took the sandwich home and toasted the bread to a solid crunchy exterior with a tender interior, added some additional pesto, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and some prosciutto, and that really punched up the flavor. If I were to order that sandwich again, I'd definitely ask for the bread extra crispy and a heap of extra pesto, plus something spicy thrown in the mix. Rick's Deli is a little South Reno gem. It is a great deli backed by an incredibly friendly staff. Every visit the staff is always warm and welcome. The Dutch crunch bread is a fantastic option for any sandwich and any menu choice with bacon is a great option, as it's cooked really well. I personally enjoy the 'Cement Shoes' (Tuna) sandwich. My only gripe about Rick's Deli is that they close at 3:00 PM on the weekdays and are not open at all on the weekends. I would love to be able to pick up an order for a dinner some night, or maybe a lunch on the weekend. It's just a bummer that the option is not available and I wish it was possible to enjoy the place more. :) read more

As we continue our journey though our self-proclaimed sandwich week, Rick's Delicafe was next on our list. Again, I've been here before, my family have not. I placed the order online for pickup an hour later and noticed many restaurants are using the same service for online orders and I like it. The order process was easy and I like paying in advance. I did have to call to find out the soup of the day though, at some point they should think about updating their Facebook page or website daily like other restaurants do so we don't have to call or worse yet, just decide to not to take a chance on what the soup of the day is. When I arrived, I appreciated the sanitizer station at the entrance and the sign on the door asking you to use it. After entering, I noticed that even though I arrived 5 minutes after my promise time, my order wasn't yet on the table by the front door dedicated to online/paid orders. I waited for just a couple minutes before someone asked me my name. She was just finishing assembling my order and notified me that the banana bread was still in the oven and asked if I wanted to substitute something else which I opted for the brownie. Truly not a big deal but my daughter was looking forward to the banana bread since it's something you can't find often. It would have been nice if there was a way to "86" the item on the online order system like most POS systems in restaurants if they're out of something. I realize that I sound petty and that's not the intent, just an observation (although next time, YOU can tell it to my teenage daughter)...and yes, the thought of having warm banana bread out of the oven almost prompted me to ask how much longer until it was out! On to the food, we ordered the John Gotti, House Roasted Turkey, Bumpy Johnson, and a side of potato salad. Simply put, the food was great. I've never had the John Gotti before and the flavors just work, loved the light spice of the Anaheim pepper and can see why it's one of their most popular. My wife had the House Roasted Turkey and marveled at how much avocado there was and how well the sandwich held up. My daughter had the Bumpy Johnson (meatball sub) and loved it. I was able to pry it away for a quick bite and agreed that it was on point. After consuming the first half, she asked if she should save the second half or eat it now, I told her it probably wouldn't hold up and before I could finish my sentence, it was gone! PSA: My PSA is around the age-old question on if you should wrap a warm take-out sandwich in foil or not. Rick's does, followed by another wrap in a parchment sandwich paper which is smart. The question is if you prefer your sandwich to be warmer when you get home and if so, at the sacrifice of the sandwich being a bit soggy (based on what you ordered). In my case, the turkey and chicken were both on Dutch Crunch and held up nicely and were warm, a win! The Bumpy (meatball) was on sourdough and although we expect some sogginess to happen due to the sauce, the moisture involved with wrapping in foil caused the outside to be a bit soggy. You can see the wrinkles in the photo. My suggestion would be to opt for the Dutch Crunch for your take-out pleasure although the sandwich was still awesome nevertheless. I almost forgot, the potato salad was great. If you like deviled eggs and potatoes, get it, reminded me of my childhood. read more

But if you're in south Reno, I think this is comparable to Ike's taste quality but with a local vibe. Sure, the options are fewer, but the experience is just as good. My husband was raving about the sandwich he got here recently so we had a lunch date here today. The service was friendly and quick. I got the egg salad sandwich and it was ok. I forgot to ask for no mayo on the bread so there was quite a bit of mayo slathered on both sides of the bread. I got provolone added on to the sandwich but really I don't think it was a great addition. The egg salad itself was alright, just not incredibly flavorful. The Dutch crunch bread had good flavor but wasn't crunchy like I'm used to the outside of Dutch crunch bread being. The one outstanding part of the meal was the oatmeal cookie which was really just delicious - crunchy on the edges but soft inside. If I ever join my husband here for lunch again I'll just get myself a cookie (or two). read more
