I'm a Mexican-American that moved to San Antonio for school from the valley. So I know what good tacos are. These are some of the best I have found in the Northwest side that have the perfect blend between Tex-Mex. You can modify your tacos to your liking and they're always extremely good about following those modifications. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. I go here so much they probably recognize me haha. I would definitely recommend Ricky's to anyone who is looking for good tacos in the UTSA area. The only downside of these tacos being so good is the waiting line that can be pretty long if you go anywhere between Thursday afternoon all the way until Saturday night but they are 100% worth the wait! read more

Unfortunatley i think Mr. Ricky has stepped away and the tacos are not what they used to be. The meat was dry and our asada tacos had no cheese. It felt like a completely different taco, now dry and flavorless when they used to be juicy and had a very unique flavor. The bean and cheese were sub par and had very little sustenance to them. This used to be one of our favorite taco spots and worth the 30 minute drive and any wait time to get them. Sad to see this place change so much overnight. read more

I have been coming to rickys tacos for over 7 years. Every time I come the food is excellent and the customer service is wonderful. Rickys wife is always super sweet to me and even has my order memorized. If you haven't tried rickys tacos yet you're missing out. They ARE the best tacos in SA. The Asada is never dried out and chewy like most taco stops are. The pastor is super flavorful. And the chicken literally tastes like your momma just pulled them straight off the grill at home. So yes the line may get long and you may have to wait a little bit for them. But trust me it's worth it. The salsa is so delicious I feel like I could just drink it and be very happy! Also! Seriously, among the best mini tacos I've ever had... and I'm from San Antonio. Let me explain. There are very few things that make up a taco really, tortilla, meat, and maybe cheese, onion, cilantro, and salsa. So why is Ricky's my favorite taco after 29 years of eating tacos all over san antonio? Two words: Quality ingredients. Here are the things that really set them apart in detail: Reward Program - They just switched to a program called spoton. It's cool because any time you go you get some kind of point and earn food or sodas along the way. I typically wait till I have 10 so I can get a free order of mini tacos. But it's cool because if you have the app on your phone, you just scan your phone. It's cool because I don't know any other taco stand that gives you rewards! Tortilla - I normally get the mini tacos which come with corn, but I do enjoy their flour too and get the regular tacos from time to time which are basically 2 mini tacos in flour tortilla. Either way, the tortillas they use are amazing and delicious. The flour isn't too floury and the corn isn't cheap and falls apart. You typically see street tacos have two corn tortillas because of the cheapness and they fall apart due to grease or salsa. Beef/Asada - this is my favorite and my recommendation. I have no idea what they do to the meat but it's flavored amazingly. I could eat the meat by itselfs. Cheese - I think this is their secret. Normally asada tacos in SA don't come with cheese. Ricky's tacos come with a sprinkle of some white cheese which isn't helping with the calorie count but you aren't getting these tacos because you care about the calories... although, I will say, they are not dripping with oil or grease like you get sometimes. Onion and Cilantro - Never get it without. It's just not right no matter where you get tacos from. Salsa - They have good quality salsa both the green and red. it's not watery and runny. When I first started going, I was eating the Red... mostly because I avoid really spicy things and red typically is less spicy than the green. Not true in this case. The red is spicy but not excessively and the green is super tasty. Now I get both and typically put red on half and green on the other half of the tacos. The only downside is that the wait can be a little long. However, if you call before you go, your food will typically be ready when you get there. The good thing I guess about the wait is you know your food is fresh. I like them so much and go there all the time I felt compelled to help people decide to go there. Now go! and get the mini tacos with everything on it and red and green salsa on the side. read more

Oh my! I think I found my late night taco place. The Al Pastor is so good!! I tried the chicken and carne asada and they have good flavors also. I also love their hot sauce, it's orange in color, I am not sure if it is habanero but it has some kick to it. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience with this place. These are the BEST street tacos I have EVER had. Every meat is SO GOOD (chicken is my favorite). Tortillas are warm and soft, toppings are EXCELLENT.. It's just the best street taco place like in the whole world. Really though. Everyone we've brought here would have gone back the next 5 nights in a row. There's no seating because it's a truck, but as you sit in your rental van and eat in a cramped space, you just DON'T CARE. The best tacos I've ever had! I am from the northeast and have never been a fan of Mexican food. Since my move to the south I have slowly been converted by taco salad, enchiladas and breakfast tacos. But still, not a huge fan. Enter Ricky's tacos. After a night of drinking and dancing, my group ended up at Ricky's to order a ridiculous amount of carne asada tacos. After some silly banter with Ricky about the best item in the food truck, (he claimed it was himself, haha) I decided to try the tacos that my friends were ordering in bulk. Paired with salsa verde, they proceeded to blow my mind. I craved them for days! Knowing that food can be deceivingly good after a long night of shenanigans, I was nervous to try Ricky's in the light of day (read sober). I had nothing to fear! Every time I have gone the steak has been tender, there has been an appropriate amount of cheese and cilantro, and the salsa verde-YUM-the perfect accompaniment. After 2 tacos I am completely satisfied but they are so good that I often cannot resist a third which sends me into a happy food coma. My mouth is watering while I write this review! Used to be inconsistent with hours but seems like it's been worked out. Service gets the job done, but I wouldn't describe it as friendly. Their salsas are so delicious, flavorful and spicy-although not like original street tacos in Mexico City-they have CHEESE in them! A little overpriced for only 4 tacos with no double tortillas unlike other place but the quality is there all in all. I tried the Al pastor and Asada and they were worth the long line wait. I've driven past this little place for the past 4 years and I just now got the urge to try them out. I do have to say I was missing out all those years. If you're really hungry one order of them won't be enough, trust me. One thing I did notice from the Al Pastor is that it didn't have pineapple in it and the pork was not as red as it should be for being Al Pastor tacos but in the end the tacos were pretty bomb. read more
