I flew into Chicago, and knew this was going to be my first stop. Open late, I got here around Midnight and the place was packed. I got the breaded steak sandwich and a large coke. Order came out pretty quick. How was it? BOMB! This sandwich is amazing! It is messy as hell, but that's half the fun eating it. The steak is tender, the sauce is delicious, and the bread is soft and holds up the whole way through the sandwich. I will crave this sandwich until the next time I am in Chicago. It's perfect!

Could not keep quiet about the ribs anymore. This is the third time the slab of ribs arrived over done. Sauce/flavor always wonderful but when you have to chew through pieces of semi wood, the joy is kind of gone. Ribs used to be my favorite to brag to everyone in Chicago, but now has taken a backseat. Will be a while till I order the ribs again. To be fair, spaghetti and meatballs are always fantastic: consistent pasta texture, tomato sauce delectable, and the best big meatballs in the southside.

Yep, the famous breaded steak sandwich, this one with mozzarella and giardiniera. It is as good as advertised but as a matter of personal taste I'd skip the giardiniera in the future. To me it just detracts from the overall flavor of the sandwich. We also got the Chicken Vesuvio. I loved the garlic but because I don't use mayo the sandwich seemed a bit dry. My fault, of course, but oh, that garlic! Service is not an issue. Order at the counter and pick up your food when they call your number. There's a separate clearly marked line for pizza by the slice. They have great parking and remember to take many more napkins than you think you need.

Extra crowded with game day but they moved very quickly. Seating challenged but we scored a spot. Plenty of options but we chose the famous steak sandwich with cheese and peppers, pasta fagioli soup, fries and beer. The sandwich not overly breaded and just enough sauce and cheese. The hot peppers were good on it but I should have got the sweet peppers too. My friend said her fries were fresh but just a little undercooked. The soup was different from the standard pasta fagioli that I have had which seemed to be a cream based maybe cheese in it and beans no beef. But it was still good. I added a pinch of salt The pizza looked delicious as did the ice cream. I would have loved to try a beef as I haven't been here since I was a kid. Half of a large sandwich and I was stuffed. Great vibe and definitely a sox fans haven. The servers were kind and again even with a line out the door the they moved quickly.

We needed a late night snack because we had an early dinner. I did not realize how late it was until I looked at the pictures on my phone; it was around 10:45, which might be early for the young whippersnappers, but this old lady usually doesn't like to eat past 9. My hubby has been talking about Ricobene's since we met 20+ years ago. He finally got me there after showing me pictures of the famous breaded steak sandwich, which we ordered, of course. We also ordered a beef sandwich and a hot dog and fries (there were four of us). The beef was great; the steak sandwich... I can't even. We have been back in the area a few times since my first visit and I am always pressuring my husband to take me back there. I am drooling a little thinking about how good it was. The place was packed at 10:45... clean and the employees looked like they were having fun. A lot of youngsters were ordering pizza... I need to try the pizza.

I was surprised by the layout of this restaurant. It's a counter service sit down casual place. Huge menu and fast service. The breaded steak sandwich was unique. The pizza was alright. The Italian ice was yummy.

Went with my wife today. It was the first time for the both of us. We knew ahead of time we were going to split the sandwich and that was a good idea. It was the perfect size for us to share. We ordered it with sweet peppers and cheese. My only complaint about it would be the cheese. It wasn't melted and did not really seem to belong. I will 100% will be back, but I'll leave the cheese off. Also, the fact that they have a large dedicated parking lot across the street is a huge plus. No parking headaches here.

Well, another review here we go this time for the very first time I tried the Chicago deep dish pizza, which I never had in my life and I must say it's different. They have an amazing dough cooked to perfection making it a deep dish pizza plenty of cheese plenty of sausage and their sauce is really outstanding and I think that's which featured on a deep dish pizza I could be wrong. I'm not Italian, but I enjoy their sauce. And naturally, I had to get a slice of pepperoni pizza, which I absolutely love. It's done to perfection. Again, plenty of open seating and tables and they are always crowded so that speaks volumes for this business Service at the counter has always been on a money, very friendly, very welcoming and they answer any questions that you may have Well, it's time to fly back home to Pennsylvania until next time. We'll see you again at my favorite spot in Chicago.

The parking is across the street. I must start with that. The facility is large and that place was busy. The food must be amazing! The line was long but moved relatively quickly. We went for the steak sandwiches but got sold on the slice of the steak pizza and we took those to go. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable hence why I ordered the pizza slices. There is plenty of seats for dining in and it is spacious. There are plenty of items to choose from. The items we purchased did not disappoint. They were delicious.

Other than the brief 3 month window after graduation in 2002 when me and my bestie were primed to move to Chicago and be labor organizers and live off $22,000/yr, I am a New York City girlie thru and thru. Still there is always that moment when you're in a different city and have the pleasure of stopping in somewhere that really gives you the vibes and flavor of what makes a place special. For me this was Ricobene's. I've been trying to get my hands on their famous breaded steak sandwich for years but I'm either too far north and out of delivery range or too stuffed from all of the other Chicago culinary delights. Both of these things were true Christmas Eve but since Xmas is my brother's fave holiday he was in a giving mood and didn't balk at the 9 mile drive - which in a city might as well be to another dimension. It was everything I imagined and more. The place is like a cross section of urban life - blue collar workers, families, frat bros, dads out for a lunch run. Legit looked like the pages of a Richard Scarry book - a comfort to me in my childhood and a balm for the times we're in. For someone who has been dreaming of this sandwich for years I was remarkably unprepared when it came time to order. The extensive menu caught me off guard and I was a blubbering mess at the counter. The older woman taking our order had the patience of a saint though and worked to make sure she got it all right even when I changed my mind 3 times. Here's what we got: 2 breaded steaks cheese and sweet 1 no cheese Fried perch sandwich Zucchini sticks Cheese fries We took it to go since we also had to stop by the liquor store - Binny's review incoming. It was still amazing by the time we got it home an hour later. Def worth the years-long wait. Will absolutely be here again. Thanks for a memorable experience that lived up to the hype!

Ricobene's does not disappoint. The breaded chicken sandwiches are amazing--huge, generously portioned cutlets that are perfectly seasoned and still juicy. The lettuce-to-mayo-to-bread ratio is spot on, and the sandwich is big enough to share or save half for later. Very filling! We also tried a few pizza slices. The thin-slice pepperoni was just okay, but the sausage slice was the clear standout--full of flavor. The deep-dish mushroom and spinach slice was solid and satisfying as well. Service was friendly, there's plenty of seating, and parking is conveniently located across the street. Definitely worth a stop.

Always a 5 star experience here weekends it's packed so be prepared . The pizza by the slice moves quickly and food is always fresh. The ambiance is old school Chicago wood tables and chairs line the dining hall a quick pop in during the week and you will find more table selection for bigger parties it's a grab your own table kind of place so don't expect any waiters or reservations. Yep, hit this spot on the first Friday of Lent. I got the eggplant parmesan sandwich and fries. Not a bad substitute for the famous breaded steak. My review is for the eggplant parmesan, which was cooked perfectly and had just the right texture. I'd almost say that I could alternate between this and the steak. My coworker that was not abstaining as he had never had the breaded steak ordered one with giardiniera and red sauce. He's about 40 years old and said that he has never had a sandwich like that and after finishing it, can only think about the next time he'd get another one. In fact, this last week he was still talking about! Great food, fast service and always consistent. BTW, I'd been eating here since 1980..LOL read more

I came here in desperation to escape the limited menus of only Chinese food in china town. Ricobene's, the place where dreams of a satisfying meal go to die. It's like they took a culinary class from a blind, one-handed chef with a grudge against taste buds. Their chili dog is a sad, lonely hot dog, desperately seeking some chili and cheese to warm its bun, but alas, they're just out of reach. It's like watching a tragic romance story unfold on a plate. And those fries? They must have been an afterthought, a meager attempt to distract you from the chili-less disaster that is the hot dog. First off the service is great fast and efficient not one complaint. This is hands down the best breaded steak sandwich in the city the sheer size of it alone. It's tender not too messy followed by the meatball sub it's not dry doesn't fall apart but not hard or dry so juicy and flavorful. The old school vibe in the restaurant is dope. I have been going to Ricobene's for years! Not only is it one of my favorite spots in the city, it's one of the restaurants I recommend to friends visiting Chicago. If you're looking for something classic, you'll definitely enjoy the Sicilian Beef or Italian Sausage. I'm also a huge fan of the saucy wings! However, Ricobene's is known for their Breaded Steak Sandwiches for a reason. If you have a huge appetite or are willing to split with a friend, the Breaded Steak Sandwich is the perfect option for a savory, satiating meal. I had the Breaded Steak Sandwich just as Anthony Bourdain recommended! Just as good as I expected, crazy sloppy but Mama Mia! Oh so good. They have both counter service and take out. Situated nearly under a freeway overpass with free parking across the street. Staff is friendly and prices reasonable. Atmosphere is similar to cafeteria style dining, very casual. I highly recommend this place because a lot of other residential stuff recommended it to us and I have ti say that it delivered. When you first walk in, it will be very busy and fast paced but don't let that deter you because you will get your order out asap! There's two lines one if you just need to buy a 'by the slice' pizza and one where you can order full ones. Came here to try the highly recommended King Steak Sandwich on a very hungry stomach. It was just ok, to be honest, reminded me of a chicken parm sub. I asked the cashier to do however is popular and so I got mozzarella and giardiniera on it. We were on a business trip, and this place was recommended by the hotel staff. It was our first day in Chicago and my coworker ordered a slice of the pizza for like $4.55, and he was like "man, this pizza was really good, especially the crust on the bottom, it was so crunchy not too soggy. So we ended up going back on our last day in Chicago, and we also ordered fries, and it is all about grease which we loved. I can't believe how poorly written my reviews were back then. How embarrassing. Anyways, I feel like my previous Ricobene's review deserved an update. It's still a 5 star place service 5 star quality food. I ordered a regular and a jumbo sized Breaded Steak Sandwich and I had to wait 45 minutes for it. But it was worth every damn minute. The jumbo is definitely the way to go here. It is very huge. The bread steak was so tender & delicious and rolled up and covered with a very flavorful gravy all in between a very soft bread. I'm order for this sandwich to work, everything has to be perfect. You have to have a good tasting sauce, the steak has to be seasoned perfect and the bread has to be fresh and soft. It can't be chewy. Ricobene's gives you all of that! I would highly suggest calling an hour before you actually get hungry. Otherwise you'll probably get hangry. And that's never a good thing. If you haven't tried Ricobene's by now you're truly missing out! They serve the best bread steak sandwich in the city. read more

Not sure if I've written a review here yet, but my family has been eating here for forever, I probably ate Ricobene's in the womb. Even after we moved away from Chicago for 18 years, monthly visits would not be complete without Ricobene's. The pizza I ate in Northern Michigan were weightless, pale imitations of Ricobene's. Lately, we have been craving their deep dish pizzas, a unique take on the Chicago style with a crispy cornbread crust, topped with fresh crushed tomatoes. Last week, we ordered a double spinach and sausage and it did not dissapoint. Crispy crust, plentiful spinach, sweet tomatoes, savory sausage with a great spice blend. We loved it so much, we ordered the exact same thing today. And it's also consistently great! Can't go wrong with Ricobene's! P.S. Try a combo sandwich, dipped, with sweet peppers. read more

I was here about a few weeks ago and honestly Ricobene's never has disappointed me. I used to live in the city decades ago and to be fair, the breaded steak sandwich and the fresh cut fries have not changed. I always get the breaded steak sandwich and the fresh cut fries especially since I do not live close by anymore and there is no place that has made it better than Ricobene's. If I am every in City limits I will try to either order it to go or eat there hands down. Never change your recipe, its been the best for decades. read more

I'm told Ricobene's is a Chicago staple. It definitely gives off that vibe. Looks like a family-run establishment. The ambiance is super casual, with plenty of room to either dine in or line up for take out. Service from their beautifully diverse staff was perfectly pleasant. I just didn't love the food. In their defense, I'm from NY and my pizza standards are high, so I didn't expect a slice from here to be anything special. What really disappointed me was the breaded steak sandwich that everyone hyped up. Don't get me wrong, I can see the potential, especially with the flavor, but it's delivered in a sopping wet mess and the folds of breaded steak on top of bread is...dare I say...too much bread. I had the breaded steak sandwich, which was good - not great. The fries were REALLY good. Too much food, I couldn't eat everything. I suspect the meatball sub or chicken parm sub would be really good. The next day I went back for their thin crust pizza. Again, very good. Different than most Chicago style thin - the dough had a little more substance to it any they use the cornmeal method on the bottom. Held up good to the sauce and there was a LOT of cheese. Recommended. More like four and a half stars. read more

So...I came in today November 5th it's currently 10:46pm I see there's renovations going on. I order the steak sandwich with the sauce you know the staple sandwich! Its so sad...it doesn't taste the same...it's not as good as it was once. Not sure if it's the renovations going on or what that's effecting the food?? I love Ricobenes and definitely disappointed. I also got the regular size famous breaded steak sandwich with red gravy. I also added mozzarella cheese and spicy & sweet peppers. MAN, that is a big sandwich! I haven't been here in ages. I was work near Taylor St these days. But I was thinking of ordering lunch from Uber and hoping they'd get it right. I saw Ricobene's! I ordered a breaded steak and a diet coke. 40 minutes, which seems right they aren't that close. The food arrived HOT and the pop was cold. The sandwich was phenomenal. I haven't had one since the Loop location closed. I did forget to ask for hot peppers, that's on me. I was not disappointed. Sincerely wish you were in University Village on Halsted. I've been traveling from the far western suburbs supporting your establishment ever since the 1980's when RICOBENE'S was just a walk-up shack for your breaded steak sandwich. Now that I buried my loved one, it's time to address the lack of customer service skills and lack of communication skills displayed by your Manager SUSIE A. This is not my 1st encounter with her CONFRONTATIONAL and BRASH DISPOSITION. On the evening of MAY 28, 2022, I WAS STARTLED, SHOCK, STUNNED and COMPLETELY OFFENED BY HER ACTIONS. My order was simple; a full slab no BBQ sauce w/ bake potato, a chicken parm sandwich and a small thin four season pizza. After a 40 minute wait, I asked the cashier regarding my order. The cashier had a daunting confused look on her face. The manager approached me in a forbidding harsh tone "NO YOUR ORDER ISN'T READY" and simply walked away. I WAS SHOCKED AND CONFUSED. My Loved One wanted your ribs that evening, so I waited. Twenty minutes later I asked the cashier about my order again. When MGR SUSIE A. finally came, she was loud and brazen saying something about ""THE SOX PLAYED blah blah blah, DON'T YOU SEE WE'RE BUSY blah blah blah (tossing a bag), WAITING ON PIZZA blah blah blah......."" I WAS STUNNED AND COMPLETELY EMBARRASSED wondering WTH just happened. Your MGR was completely out of line. I am always POLITE and I was more than just PATIENT. SUSIE A. NEVER OFFERED ME A POP DRINK WHILE I WAITED OR TO COMP THE PIZZA BECAUSE OF THE LONG WAIT....... ...as she continued to scold and denigrate me, your entire establishment got quiet, focusing at me being closed in by 5 CHICAGO POLICE OFFICERS. I was so lost for words and asked for a REFUND. The next day I came to complain and also noticing my card was charged $4.42. Desiree apologized for the experience and said the $4.42 was some type of HOLD from my card. My 62 years never heard of a CREDIT CARD HOLD FOR CANCELLING AN ORDER....... Your Manager SUSIE A. is TRIFLING and A THIEF. For 4 DECADES I've been supporting your establishment and I NEVER... Is this how SUSIE A. speaks to PEOPLE OF COLOR? You need to tell your staff not to lie to their customers or at least get their facts STRAIGHT!!! I was in your restaurant on Saturday July 3 at 7 PM. I asked both cashier female and the guy taking my order if there were refills on the soda and they both said YES!! Even though the sign said NO REFILLS they assured me there was!!!! When I returned 15 minutes later after spending $40 to get a refill the SAME GUY SAYS NO REFILLS. I told him ....but you said there was. He turned to the female cashier and asked her and she told him to ask the manager. The manager turned to me and said NO REFILLS. Rico's has quickly gone downhill!!! We frequent this establishment at least 2x/week for pizza, burgers and breaded steak. Hopefully the owners actually read these reviews and use them to help fine tune their overall operations. Here's a strong suggestion - meet w your late night staff and re-train them on how to handle complaints to ensure customer satisfaction. I addressed my concerns to your staff as well as your mod and the way they handled the situation was by far the worst. I was not rude nor did I make a scene. In fact, I spoke softly, so other customers did not hear. I just wanted to let them know, they should not be serving old and dry pizza or burnt breaded steaks. I understand the cost of food is extremely high and you can't afford to be wasteful, I get it, BUT, when one orders a breaded steak crispy, it should NOT be completely overcooked, where it ends up being hard as a rock. I have ordered my breaded steak this way for the past 40 years and your cooks have always executed well. Such a dissappointment. read more

I've been eating here for thirty years and was excited to move back within delivery range. My bad. The last time I ordered, it took two and a half hours during which I was told twice to go downstairs as the driver was near and spent over 25 minutes on hold. When I spoke to a manager, she offered me nothing and basically told me to wait. I swore I would never call again. Tonight, I was weak. Again, my bad. To be safe, I placed the order online and promptly recieved a confirmation email. Almost 90 minutes later, at midnight, I called to find out what was going on. I was told they didn't have the order and that spome times on-line orders "didn't go through". Yet again, No one even apologized. No manager was willing to speak with me. I am betting that no one there will ever read this, because they simply don't give a f*%) about their customers. Too busy raising prices and lowering quality. If I lose that bet, I will retract this. Who wants the "under" on how long that takes. read more

Ricobene's is one of those spots that feels like a time capsule in the best way. The fried batter steak absolutely lived up to the reviews. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor. If you know, you know. What really caught me off guard in the best possible way were the prices. It felt like I was back in the late nineties or early 2000s. You can still get a full meal here without emptying your wallet, which is rare these days. The place was packed and had its own rhythm. There were people playing chess, others working remotely on laptops, and a steady stream of folks coming in and out. It had that real neighborhood energy. The pizza slice line was long but moved surprisingly fast. They have it down to a science. One star off only because it can get a bit hectic and noisy during the rush. But if you are in the mood for classic Chicago eats and a real city vibe, Ricobene's is well worth the trip. read more

We only get Ricobene's on special occasions because it's a bit of a drive for us. I understand it's Mother's Day and it's going to be busy, but don't tell people their order will be ready at a certain hour if it's not. We've been in our car outside for two hours now and counting waiting for our food! And to top it all off the employees aren't even apologetic at all about it. Unfortunately we prepaid with tip and everything or else we would've left already and said screw them! Update: I ordered the food at 5:43... was told food would be ready by 6:23... finally got the food at 8:25pm... and that was after I was finally able to get through on the phone and asked if our food was ready?! They checked and it was... Only God knows how long it was sitting there (we had giving our name and number twice by then and they had told us they would call our phone as soon as it was ready)... what a disaster! If you are looking to spend your entire paycheck on one meal that will end up being full of greese, clogging your aterys, and making you sick the next day.. then I guess ricobenes is your place. I personally have seen cockroachs climbing the walls, which other customers around me pointed out aswell and we all left together... If you dont belive me, check their health inspection reports which are posted by their pizza/beer counter and you will see what the board of health has to say... In the back of the kitchen all you see are hispanic mexican looking people going crazy with NO GLOVES, NO HAIRNETS, NO APRONS, etc.. MAKING YOUR FOOD!!!! It amaze's me this place is still up and running... I wonder how much they must pay the INS and the inspectors to keep this place going. Y U C K !!! read more

Is it really that difficult to order hot wings w the sauce on the side?!?! Apparently so, when it comes to Ricobene's. The gentleman taking my order, said sure w a great smile, but, apparently your pos system did not have that as an option. He then, politely asked your so-called mod, only to hear w a nasty attitude, "can't get sauce on the side". I, along with most other customers, would have preferred a much kinder response or at least just a little bit more of a professional tone like "No, I'm sorry" or "let me check w the kitchen". Service here is really a hit or miss, as we frequent this joint 2x-3x a week for the past 30 years. Your older staff are definitely worth keeping, it just sucks that If I want decent service, it will have to be before 8pm. read more

This business is extremely racist. Even though my apartment is a block away from the establishment they told me that they do not deliver to "black neighborhoods" in fear of their drivers' safety. I came across this place after several people referred it to me I called to order for a party and ordered easy over $100 worth of food. 15 minutes after placing our order they called to say we don't deliver over in that part of town. Its not safe for our drivers! Some people will not care either way but if you still love their food just maybe choose another establishment. The idea that they would refuse delivery to their neighbors to to the color of their skin is so sad to me in 2008 in the cultural melting pot that is Chicago. Shame on you Ricobene's read more

Ricobene's has good food and pretty fast delivery. I like that they have lots of different pizza by the slice if you go in there. Great fries, good fried chicken and great pizza. The deep dish and the thin with ground beef and tomato slices are my favorites. What I hate is that they almost never have a deep dish sausage pizza slice. More than half the time when I stop by they are always cooking one. Wouldn't that mean that it's probably your most popular slice? Maybe you could make a few more of them during the peak hours? When you had no deep sausage today at 7:30, I left and went to Lina's and got a slice there. I think they have the best regular pizza in Bridgeport read more

there's a reason why ricobene's has been open for 75 yrs. some people may view it as a tourist pizza joint and if you want to classify it that way, it is the best tourist sandwhich/pizza spot in the city. listen are you going to get pizza that gets a shout out by the michelin guide, no but it is a good fucking slice in the south side. what caught me off guard was their breaded steak pizza. i just want relieve the moment i took that first bite again. i will be back and get their world famous breaded steak sandwhich. i just got pizza slices but i've heard their breaded steak sandwhich is out of this world. Absolutely a top-notch spot! The breaded steak sandwich is a must-try--remarkably delicious. Although I don't order it often, my go-to here is the pizza; ordering two different deep dish slices is a hungry man's delight! The flavors are consistently spot-on. Ample seating means minimal wait times, and the pricing is both convenient and reasonable. It's undeniably my favorite spot for a quick and tasty pizza fix. Every item on the menu is a winner. First time to Chicago and wanted to try a Chicago pizza. Yelp reviews said order 45 minutes ahead. We ordered 30 mins before our arrival. We greeted the staff because they were all straight faced and spoke like robots "bee boop, order here, bee boop boop". I then paid over $30 for a large works pan pizza and two pops. After another 35 minutes, the robot transmitted that our pizza was done. We opened the box and it looked delicious. After the first bite, I was waiting for the sensational pizza I was staring at. We love Ricobene's pizza. Their pan cheese lasagna and spinach lasagna is the absolute best! I always take my kids there to celebrate after a basketball game or as a weekend treat. The only reason I do not give them a five star is for the very tight space. They are always packed (because of the good food) but the tables are small and they are placed very close together. I usually need more space to enjoy a meal with my family. It's nice that they reheat the pizza in the little oven, it makes the crust crunchy. But I am not impressed with the staff they could be a little nicer. read more

But quickly figured out that this was not a salad place.is that wrong?.i've heard my parents talk about this place forever and finally got a chance to try it.still; when i'm in bridgeport and am hungry; i will stop in at ricobene's.tip: if you are picking up; call aheadfast service great good really can't go wrong except it's not healthy at all lol but its worth the drive to check out if your hungry..not to mention the butter.but be sure to check your takeout order before you leave!.heard the buffalo chicken sandwich is on point as well.i rate the steak sandwich as ok. read more

I've eaten here many many times. This place is like a home to me. I love the steak sandwich here but once in a blue moon, the steak sandwich would taste slightly different which I don't know why. You can't go wrong with the cheese burger, they can actually make something so simple taste really good. Other items worth mentioning - Cheese fries MmMm, thin crust pepperoni and sausage pizza. There Pan Pizza is the best, the crust is like nothing you have had before... If you are like me and like a good Chili Cheesedog, this is also the place to go. At times the lines are long, but so worth the time, and the parking space/lot, well not the best place, but not many hot dog joints have a parking lot, so can't complain. A true gem in Bridgeport, not many ppl know about it, a real local hotspot and your sure to find lots of men and women in blue around. read more

Ricobene's was mad famous for their breaded steak/chicken sandwiches and their amazing fries.... and that is the only reason why you should come visit. The pizza here is horrible. Ricobenes.. you should drop it from your menu. The Chicken Vesuvio, Breaded Steaks, and Eggplant Sandwich are top notch. Their chilli cheese fries are a true gut buster... This is a good place to grab a quick bite. They have a parking lot across the street which is super convenient. They have a lot of good menu. Be sure to try the sandwich if you're craving something greasy. The vegetables on top complement the breaded chicken well.
