I used to have Ricobene's for lunch almost once per week, during the work week. My favorite was and always has been the egg plant Parmesan sandwich. That's also my all time Italian dish favorite. And This is one of their best items. Surprisingly, they make an even more famous, breaded steak sandwich. Which may make you think of country fried steak but this isn't served with gravy, it's served with marinara. You won't find this sandwich elsewhere, it's very unique and tasty. But, I still think the eggplant Parmesan is much more satisfying - but that's just me. And don't get me wrong, I'm a carnivore so that just goes to show how off the charts the eggplant parm sandwich really is. FYI, the provolone cheese is extra, the sweet peppers are extra and the hot peppers are extra. Why not just charge us more and let it all be part of the deal?? We then can have it any way we want it. Adequate Street parking and there's a parking lot across the street. Hope to be back soon (26th St. - now that's a haul) and please open a North side spot, we'd faithfully welcome you with open arms. Nothing like a big slice of cheese pizza. This is a great spot to go with your family. Vegetarian friendly.

There food is amazing! I got there fried steak sandwich and it had the right amount of everything. The service was pretty decent and the line goes pretty fast. We didn't even have to wait for our food for very long. There were quite a bit of people coming in and out and sitting down but the ambiance was nice and relaxed and casual which was nice. Ricobene's had a large location with ample seating and an old school atmosphere. I got the Breaded Steak Sandwich and the Vesuvio Italian Classic. I had pretty high expectations and I was unfortunately really disappointed. The Breaded Steak was served with red gravy and I'm not sure if my sandwich was an outlier, but it was way too much gravy. The sandwich was more than just soaked, it was disintegrating and I couldn't pick it up. I was really trying to find some redeeming qualities, but I sadly couldn't. On the other hand, the Vesuvio was not bad. It was a breaded chicken breast, garlic butter with onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. The Vesuvio tasted like a more elevated version of a McDonald's Hot n' Spicy, so if that's your thing, you'd probably like it. I'm still a little torn on Ricobene's.. it's a Chicago staple and an iconic dish that has a loyal following. At the same time, I've never eaten anything like what they offer anywhere else. A breaded steak sandwich!? I mean... don't get me wrong, it's completely enjoyable, but why haven't I seen this before? Do I add mozzarella and hot peppers? YES! It's honestly pretty good. If you like Chicken Parm, Pizza, or Italian food, Ricobene's is probably right up your alley. I've lived on Ricobene's and around the corner for over 45 years and both quality and quantity have been in steep decline the last 5 years. Despite being busy, the food now sucks. Breaded steaks and chicken parms aren't fried right and sauce is inconsistent sometimes nonexistent. Fries are $3 and often you only get a half bag. Pizza is a joke and used to be solid. Ingredients are low quality and you can tell they continue to cut corners to give you garbage. All the while, prices keep going up. It's sad and they used to have slamming breaded steaks but now it's just cheap, low-quality meat packed with gristle and prepared like mush. Even their bread has gone down. If a competitor comes around with quality breaded steaks, Rico's will be toast. I hope some little shack pops up next door and I'll be there along with others that feel the same. read more

I ordered from them Tuesday of this week never had a problem with delivery. But this day my food never arrived ordered at 11:10 by 1:00 I canceled. The delivery person said he didn't feel safe delivering to my work . Never had a problem any way canceled and the person on the phone said my money would be back on my card. Being in Chicago, my travel partner said he wanted to try it, so we gave it a shot, being this is the first time trying it I have nothing to compare to, I felt it was very soggy, not sure if it was the fact they dip it in the sauce or when it came out of fryer it didn't sit long enough. Maybe this is the way it is supppsed to be, either way for me it wasn't blow my hair back amazing. Never had a better reason to come here except for a Fatherless Father's Day. My dad would often rave about this place but never took us here. Sadly my dad passed away 3 years ago and today I chose to come here to do something in his memory, eat a beaded steak sandwich. On the way in we saw one man leaving with no less than 5 pizzas. Guess we have another reason to return..as they sell slices and whole pies too. It was a great experience, busy for Father's Day, but every employee was wearing a mask and while masks are currently required, hopefully in the future this will become updated. After ordering 2 regular breaded steak sandwiches with mozzarella and giardiniera , fresh cut fries and a couple drinks we found a table and waited for our order number to be called. The old pictures on the wall here tell the history of this place, which started in 1946. It was nice to look at these while waiting for our # to be called. I inquired about a kid sized sandwich while we waited, but was informed the 6" regular sandwich was the smallest one they had and the 9" is the giant version. These are not the type of sandwiches to share...don't worry, you will be pleasantly surprised how much you will be able to eat. Leaving it in the wrapped I carefully picked it up for my first of several hot bites. Whoa, this was amazing, I can understand why my dad raved about it. I had 4 bites to go and called it. Wrapped it up and fingers crossed it will be just as delicious the day after. It was a delicious and memorable Father's Day. Glad I had my life partner Charley with me to have this experience. You order at the front counter, and deep dish pizza will take about 45 minutes to make, which is pretty standard. They have two size options for the breaded steak sandwich and I got the smallest size and it was still HUGE! it was the size of my head lol. Their pizza was really good I loved the crust on it. Ricobene's is a Chicago institution. I don't want to offer Portillos fans but I do see some similarities. For the uninitiated, Ricobene's is known for their fried steak sandwich. Think of it as a chicken parm but with steak. On my last visit, I got 3 sandwiches - fried steak, meatball and chicken parm along with their fries. As a sandwich lover, this was on our list when visiting Chicago. I had seen a video of the breaded steak sandwich and knew we had to try it. It was our first stop when we landed and all I can say is wow! I wasn't sure if I was going to like it because I have never heard of it before, but let me tell you, it was AMAZING! So much so that I ate it so quickly didn't even get a picture got the regular sized one which is 6 inches vs the King which Is larger. I'm sorry to say today is the last day I will be eating bennies, I've been a customer for over 50 years, back in the 50 cent Italian ice cup as a kid from Bridgeport, for over 20 years I've always ordered the same sandwich, but up until today I've never been treated like I'm ordering something from a different planet! The female kid that took my delivery order of over $90 could not have been more disrespectful to if a German shepherd walked in to order. I've known you guys my whole life 11 years old and im 54 at this point. I stuck with you through the bolingbrook days. Who ever you have taking phone orders is the worst person I have ever experienced in my life. Terrible communication skills, Terrible knowledge of what me the customer wants to pay for, I went as far as tell her charge me $20 for every extra im adding.
