To be honest I came here for one reason, the infamous breaded steak sandwich. I remember when Ricobenes was on the list of best sandwiches in the country! So whats the verdict. I cannot lie this sandwich is something special. The breaded steak is a pretty large sandwich that hits on all that meaty tomatoey chessy flavors. Add some hot peppers and you got one messy yet delicious indulgent sandwich or sub. The deep dish pizza is was also very good. This place screams Chicago, and unfortunately is not as well known nationally as a portillos but it should. This place will blow up if they opened up some locations up on the northside. Experience: Visited here during lunch hours during the week. It was crowded, but with a party of 2, we were able to order fairly quickly and find a place to sit. Ricobene's is definitely casual and it would classify the restaurant a high end fast food joint. Parking: There appears to be a parking lot located across from Ricobene's, which is very convenient. There is street parking available, but spaces may be limited. Note: During lunch hours, it seems to be very crowded, as a result parking (On the street and lot) may be full, so take that into consideration. Worth: I LOVE RICOBENE'S. I always try to make a visit if I near by the area. Breaded Steak (As pictured below), is always the way to go. Fries are also amazing. Personally me, the regular size is just enough, but I have seen the king size and that thing can feed 2-3 people! Thin slices of steak breaded and fried to a light crunch, dipped in a tomato sauce and served in hero bread. The sandwich is massive; enough to share. Having it fresh and hot is a must otherwise it gets soggy. Also decided to try their deep dish pizza pie with sausage too. Crust was light and sauce was a little bland for me. Maybe I am more used to the New York style thin crusted pizza with the Italian spices. Did not enjoy it as much as the steak sandwich. The restaurant is self serve. Exactly what I wanted! Place was busy and for good reason. The line moved quick and order did not take long. The inside is big and despite how busy it was I was seating was not an issue. I got the Italian beef and had to try their signature breaded steak sandwich. Wow! Both were delicious fresh and bursting with flavor. The fries are handcut and delicious and don't forget about the house made Italian ice wich even had little bits of real lemon inside. great but not the new duks. A combo I had sucked, not enough beef, or slices of beef versus chopped up beef. Beef is sprinkled at the bottom of the bread, about 1/3 and probably weighed. The sausage is alright but they did not dip the entire sandwich into the beef juice. The fries were about a cup full, and the combo sandwich was more of a snack, like a burrito, which could pass for something on party or special event trays. I ordered the king size breaded steak sandwich, and boy, they are not lying about the king size! This thing is big and heavy! Definitely needed 2 people to take this down. The sandwich itself was ok. Not fantastic. The breaded steak was soggy, and lacked some flavor. The sauce it was covered in was good and so was the roll. I did like the melted cheese and peppers on the sandwich. I also enjoyed the french fries because they tasted hot and fresh. I heard about Ricobene's on Action Bronson's show. He said he had to stand to eat the infamous breaded steak sandwich, and I now understand why he did this because it is a behemoth of a sandwich. I don't see how people were posting up in their cars and eating this during peak Covid (I saw this in the parking lot often). It's a messy sandwich but most def worth it. But as great as that sandwich is, I actually prefer getting the Vesuvio here. Breaded chicken cutlet with lettuce, mayo, tomato on a garlic roll. It was not as easy as I thought finding a pizza place in Chicago with decent reviews not far from where I was staying. So, finally found Ricobene's. The pictures looked good and they had a nice size menu. I had a personal pan with extra cheese and got some cheese fries to try. You get a ton. They gave us a whole second container of fries. The fries were a 4/5. I wish I had not waited the 7 miles back to the hotel. Cheese was very good. The pizza was super cheesy and yummy sauce but I wish I had gotten the thin crust. Ricobene's breaded steak sandwich has been called "the best sandwich in the world" - and as my co-workers showed me on a recent visit, this place has earned the title! How could I have missed this Chicago classic? The massive pie plate-sized disk of thinly-pounded steak is lightly breaded and fried golden, then lovingly folded into a long, soft roll and bathed in their bright marinara sauce (my Momma would call it "red gravy"). You can add a handful of mozzarella cheese (ask them to "melt it"), a spoonful of classic giardiniera or sliced sweet/hot peppers, bringing the sandwich up to the weight of a newborn infant. The steak is as tender as butter and the roll simply disintegrates as it soaks up all the juicy wonderfulness, forcing you to use your knife and fork to gather up the last remaining bites. The "regular" sized sandwich is huge - definitely worthy of a nap after lunch- so pace yourself if you order any of their sides. The fries were limp and greasy, but the Zucchini Sticks and Breaded Mushrooms fared much better. Sure, the pizza is supposed to be great, and their char-broiled hamburgers are awesome as well, but who would stray from such a perfect sandwich?! Ricobene's never disappoints! My table ordered breaded steak, pizza and Italian beef. It was all great! The portions was large and we had plenty to take home. The staff was really nice and patient considering it was dinner hour, super busy and lots of impatient people. The only thing that stopped me from giving the restaurant 5 stars is they have to be faster with cleaning up. We wiped down our own table and the trash was overflowing. Very pleased with our experience at Ricobenes. I wasn't sure what to expect with a "breaded steak" sandwich (images of chicken-fried steak came to mind) but this was much more akin to the breaded veal cutlets my Italian-American mother used to make. In a sandwich because...why not? Really nice flavor in the cutlets and in the gravy. The portions are gargantuan. I could have eaten the whole (regular size) thing, but I would have regretted it; instead the leftovers became dinner. As much as I enjoyed it, this is definitely a "treat day" meal. This could have been a 4 but I could tell my breaded beef sandwich had probably been sitting there for quite while because it was assembled in 20 secs flat. The breaded beef was dry and looked gray in the middle and wasn't really meaty or crunchy. It was definitely filling though.The bread and sauce, however, were really good and I could see why the sandwich is so popular if the steak came relatively straight from the fryer. My brother's sandwich on the other hand looked a lot fresher so I'm glad he was able to try the better one since he's from out of town. He seemed to enjoy it a lot. Also, we ordered the chili cheese fries. It was decent but the chili had way too many beans for my liking. Just a personal taste though so if you like beans, you'll love this.
