Right Brain Brewery hosts an eclectic mix of decor as well as beers. It isn't uncommon to find strange brews like peanut butter infused stouts or mint flavored ales up on tap here. The space is immense with a ton of seating, arcade games, and even an outside area with benches set up on nice days. The inside can be a bit loud when busy, but the outside is very relaxing due to a quiet setting near the train tracks. The beer is tasty and unique. My favorite was probably an asparagus blonde ale which had just enough veggie flavor to be unique, but not overpowering. My best friend and I frequent breweries to check out new craft beers. Right Brain is easily a top five for me. Between the unique ambiance, delicious beer, and great service, I wish I lived closer. I ordered a flight to try six of their beers. While usually you'll find a few on a flight you actually like, I loved all six. Each had a great flavor and were easy to drink. The absolute cherry on top was our bartender Lydia. I asked if she had any owl shirts or stickers (an owl is a logo for one of their beers) because none were displayed but I collect owls. She went and found me all the owl shirts to see which one I liked the best. I'm absolutely in love with my new owl shirt and this brewery. Big thanks to Lydia for giving us a background on the brewery and exceptional service!! And to Right Brain for a great night and exceeding our expectations!! read more

Recently visited Traverse City from out of town and was recommended Right Brain by several people. This brewery is fantastic! The group I was with had nearly every type of beer on the menu and they were all great. The prices and specials were very reasonable and the brewery is like an adult playground. We also happened to be there on a trivia night which was an unexpected surprise. Trivia was a combination of questions, actions, and games and everyone had a great time. Definitely recommend visiting Right Brain, I will go back in a heartbeat the next time I visit! read more

Their beer is great the atmosphere is perfection and their staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I love going here on every trip to the great Traverse city to pick up to go beers you can only find in the brewery. I have had lots of their beer, it never disappoints, and their food is absolutely amazing. Their burgers are cooked to perfection, and the appetizers are mouth watering. I think the only thing they are missing is something for the sweet tooth... other than that I have not one thing to gripe about! read more

From the staff to the microbrew - this place is fantastic! For any beer lovers visiting TC, stop by! Not only is the beer DELICIOUS, but the place is kid friendly (and not awkwardly kid friendly, if you know what I mean.) ;-) The only downside, which I don't think is high enough to take them down a star, is that their beer has officially blown out my palette. I can no longer enjoy sips of PBR or Miller Light like I used to. In the summer I love taking home a growler of their latest IPA - my favorite! read more

Awesome lay out. Great place to just hang with a group. Very solid beers. The beet saison was freaking delicious. Im giving this place 4 stars because $7 for chips and salsa. I mean, ok great you use local ingredients and make it fresh, but $7?? Drop it down to $5... you'll still make money in sure. Ate the waffle corn beef... it ruined me damn it. This was a fantastic place to visit. The beer was good, the food was unique. it was open and spacious. They have a small game area for kids too, which was neat. They have many beers that you can take home as well. The food was a little pricey for the small amount that you get. I wish there was a little more to choose from as well. Based on what the travel guides eluded to, we expected more meal options to be available. You could easily make a meal out of their offerings but it would be very pricey. read more

This place was clearly the TC hang out on Saturday evening! We luckily found 2 seats at the bar but all the tables were full and people were standing around drinking. The Art Bomb event was going on so there was live music and dancing. The mug club here is so cool and artistic as well! This is one of the best, if not the coolest taproom and brewery I have every been to; and believe me, I have been to a lot of breweries. It's a nice large, warehouse type room with tables all over, and games every you look. They have the retro Galaga table game, which we gladly enjoyed over a pint. The amount of beers they had were incredible, ranging in all different varieties whether you were looking for a light beer (they had about 5 different cream ales on tap that day) or something dark, high or low alcohol they had it all. They had a food truck working out of the back, offering varieties of french fries and burgers. We ordered some fries with cheese and bacon on them, and wow was it delicious. Unfortunately where we live, it is basically impossible to be near anywhere we could get some Right Brain, so naturally we bought some and brought it home. This place is a 10/10. read more

The atmosphere is super fun, as is the decor. The beer was outstanding and very unique. We ended up doing a double sampler (12 different beers), and we were not disappointed. We went home with 2 growlers and a bottle of the Pig Porter (which I would highly recommend, if you like something extra special and unique). Great place, great staff, great beer. You definitely get your money's worth at Right Brain. We'll be looking for their beer on the shelves from now on, and we'll definitely be back. read more

Great spot with great beer! Visiting during off-peak hours meant that finding parking and a table were a breeze. Of the beers, Naughty Girl Stout and Looping Owl were the two that stood out to me. They are not focusing on food, so the menu options are limited. I had a weird turkey sandwich, which was served on a waffle rather than bread. Food service was extremely slow. This was probably one of my least favorite brewery I've been to. My friends and I checked it out while we were in traverse today and the experience was less than desirable. First of all the staff is inattentive and overall seems annoyed you're there. We ordered the dirty fries and pretzel breadsticks and it took 45+ minutes to come out and there was nobody else that had ordered food. The staff member I spoke with never apologized for the wait or anything. The beer was okayish, but the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars was for the atmosphere. We had a very good experience here! We've never been here before and have never had any of their beers. We decided to take their tour, and Alex was very cool and was very informative about the beer that they make! FYI, their food truck operates when they feel like it, so there isn't always food available, but they did have chips and quacamole available. Love right brain and have been here a number of times. Food was good. Beer was lovely as always! However, the bartender was extremely inattentive. She was busy which is understanding but never even said hi to us. Someone from the back was helping and took care of us and when her relief came in they took care of us yet she expected to cash us out and take the tip at the end. Which was a bummer. This place is awesome and has such a unique and fun atmosphere but it may be a while until we are back in after the service we got today. read more

I've always heard nothing, but good things about Right Brain. Their beers are great and very creative, the atmosphere was laid back, but very fun so on and so forth. All that changed this past weekend when I visited Right Brain for the first time. All you notice when you first walk in is the void of seating and open space along with the "kids area." This was my first flag. Was I at a brewery or a Chuck E. Cheese? I don't know about other craft beer drinkers, but when I go to a tap room or brewery I don't want a majority of the patrons to be those under 9 years old. I want an adult atmosphere because well... I'm drinking beer! Right Brain has itself confused a little with a day care. There's more toys and entertainment for the kids than the adults. After making my way through all the children running everywhere I found myself trying to figure out where to order my beer and what I can order. Let me explain. They have 3 dry erase boards up. All their current beers on tap are designated into certain categories, standard, premium and whatever the other one was. Within those categories, some beers are bottle only, not available with flights and some you cant get a growler of. Fair enough to some extent. I know some breweries don't let you get growlers of beers that are over a certain alcohol percent and other have flight restrictions. The thing is that some of the "premium" beers were available for flights, but others were not, which... why are they even premium? The other convoluted piece of this process is that there is a spot to order from, but the bartenders were taking orders from other people who went up to the bar, which in most breweries is how you do it anyways. Again.. what's the point? After finally getting all the beers we could for the flight we found a table albeit close to the "play area." After going through the samples it's clear that the new brew master isn't quite as good as the old brew master. I've had a few of their beers when they were at their original location with their first brew master and those were amazing, this batch... not so much. The Cherry Pie (not available for growlers BTW), Norman IPA and Looping Owl were pretty good, but the other beers weren't. I am not sure if Right Brain had some sort of plan when the brew master left and they moved in to their new digs, but it clearly isn't a good one. Too many kids, too complicated of a ordering / to -go process and not a good enough line up. I was really excited to see this place and felt very let down. The one bright spot I can say is that the turkey and avocado sandwich on the waffle was pretty good, but not good enough for me to go back. Get your crap together Right Brain. read more

I had read a lot of Yelp reviews before going to Right Brain, which was my first trip to Traverse City. Unless everyone is in agreement, then you really have to take Yelp reviews with a grain of salt. I have to say, Right Brain really disappointed me. I did like the vibe, the decor, and everything that made this place unique. I even like the weird windows looking into the hair salon. The staff was friendly. I'm from Chicago, a pricey town, so I didn't have a problem with the price of the beers, either. Now, the bad part. The entire reason for going: the beer. We tried five different beers and only one we "liked" was the one made with pig parts. It was flavor defect city. I have not smelled diacetyl that bad in beer in a long time, if ever. Diacetyl is the fake movie popcorn butter smell and taste you get in an improperly fermented beer. Some beers can mask that flavor with hops and a rich malt profile, but the smell was overpowering. Luckily, the nice staff took the beer back and allowed me to sample the beers before getting another. The beer really put a bad taste in my mouth. read more

The beer is not good. It hasn't been good, ever. This is the typical overrated crunchy/fixed gear type place that doesn't stand up to the hype. The place is cool and there used to (may still) be a restaurant attached. The beer is just soooo bad. I know I'm not alone in this assessment. It's not just that it isn't good, the beer is bad. Rank after-taste. It's honestly a step below North Peak's beer and can't hold a candle to other microbrews from Michigan. read more

Awesome place! As I walked in it was exactly what i was comfortable with. Cool artwork on the walls, friendly people minding their own business--chatting, playing board games, doing their own thing. Took a seat at the bar and looked at a chalk board with all the selections they had on tap. Its really cool how all of their beer is brewed there, and from what I heard they always have a new selection every day or week i forget. I forgot the bartender's name but she was really friendly. I was in the mood for some brown ale as a starter and went with their Bitchin' Brown Ale which was really good. If you want variety though, go with the beer sampler thingy which gives you a chance to pick 6 different beers they have on tap for 15 bucks. This will definitely be a place I would come back to if I plan to travel to traverse city again! read more

I just got done visiting Right Brain for the second time. I visited there last year right after they moved to their new location. My boyfriend and I are both very big beer enthusiasts, and were looking for a place to relax on a Saturday afternoon. The Place: The feel of Right Brain is a little odd. It's all concrete, with metal or wood tables. There's no upholstery anywhere. The walls are covered in colorful and creative paintings that are actually pretty cool. They also had music playing at a reasonable volume. The last time we were there and this time, though, it was so large and empty you ended up feeling a little bit like you were in a museum or a gymnasium. It was cool, but it wasn't necessarily comfortable. The Beer: the beer is good, but not fantastic. I liked some of their IPAs (Spiny Norman was fantastic) and they had some creative, well-executed moments (I like Strawberry Fields a lot). Like I said, though, the beer was very good, but wasn't all-around amazing. The Food: They serve some small snacks (e.g., chips & salsa), as well as "waffle" sandwiches made with their beer. The food was good, but the portions were not anywhere near a meal, and I am a very small person. The Price: The pints there are a little expensive given that they brew them on the premises. In addition, the food was really pricey for the amount that you got ($7 for a sandwich with no side, and I was definitely hungry after). Finally, I was SHOCKED at the price of the flight or sampler. Six 6-oz. pours cost $15. For slightly over two pints, that comes out to almost $7/beer. For a brewery, that's quite expensive. I probably would not have minded, but the price of the sampler isn't listed anywhere on their menu. I know, I know--it's my fault for not asking, but I honestly didn't expect it to be anywhere near that much. Verdict? I liked Right Brain, but they lost me at the price. My boyfriend and I paid $50 in beer and food to leave hungry. I was pretty dissatisfied and my credit card hurts a little now. read more
