I'm not sure if RPB Brookland is a brewery or a daycare. Their beer is great, but the vibe is so thrown off by all the kids running around and strapped to tipsy parents' chests. It's so weird. Waited 30 minutes for a beer, only one server behind the bar initially. Heard the bar tender tell another customer that "the one that tastes sour is the sour one" when they asked which was which. As with all of DC's production breweries, Right Proper's Brookland Tasting Room sits near a railroad tracks, in this case, across the Metropolitan Branch from the former Chocolate City Brewery (currently the Dew Drop Inn). Perfect for a rest stop on a weekend bike ride! Only open Tuesday-Sunday, the Brookland facility does brewery tours and offers their products (both stainless steel and oak fermented)on draft from one of the12 taps. I had a glass of the Häxen, a robust porter that was perfect for a winter's day. With increased production, they also have a wider distribution; the names of the establishments serving their products hang above the windows overlooking the fermentation tanks. In keeping with the original T Street location, the walls are adorned with strange animal murals. Don't forget to check out the bathroom complete with piano! And now with yoga! That's right, yoga and craft beer. It doesn't get any better than that, does it? Or does it? The Right Proper Tasting Room doesn't serve food, but it's right down the street from Menomale Pizza, so get one to go and bring it on over. It really doesn't get better than that. read more

Fun, small brewery with exceptional service. All staff members were friendly and attentive. We were hoping to take the brewery tour at 4 but missed it by 11 minutes. However, a gentleman still took us on a private tour off-hours; so sweet and we were very grateful! Afterwards, we sat and enjoyed a few kinds of beer and had a wonderful time. This place tucked away in Brookland is awesome. Great beer, great atmosphere, and great prices! Excellent spread of brews on tap. The Baron Corvo was my personal favorite. This review is solely for Right Proper's Brookland tasting room + brewing facility as I have already reviewed their Shaw Brew Pub previously. Both spots have a core group of beers that are the same but the tasting room has more variety as I get the notion that it is used as kind of a testing "lab" for inventive beers that their brewmasters get to play around with before introducing it over at the Shaw pub. They've been playing around with aging beer in wine barrels from Leesburg/Loudoun County which has produced some great and more unusual ales. One of the times we were visiting the tasting room, we were given a tour by their head brewmaster, Nathan. Really cool guy that is totally nerdy and passionate about all things beer and alcohol. If you get a chance to meet him, definitely introduce yourself. They also have a top of the line growler filling system. It reduces the amount of oxygen that gets into the growler with your beer so it essentially acts like a vacuum. If you don't bring a growler you can buy screwtop and latchtop RP growlers to take home with you. Food trucks come and go on the weekends so you can grab a bite to eat while enjoying your beer. They had Rocklands BBQ when we were there last time in April which was very good. You can also bring your own food in with you from anywhere (home, pizza joints, etc). read more

My husband speaks fluent beer and loves this place. There are two locations. This one doesn't sell food but allows it inside. There are various pop up restaurant events held on the property. You can enjoy a beer and take a tour of the brewing area. The artwork is daring and funny. The bartenders are nice. If you aren't sure what you want to order, you can try a sample. This is a neat brewery off the beaten path. The tour was energetic and insightful. The guide was very knowledgeable about the brewery, history, and brewing process. The bar side and brewery were both immaculate. We got to do a tasting afterwards and I was very happy with the selection of beers we were able to try. Yes Right Proper. Yes. This place is very good. It is a tap room. Go there. - Be prepared for a crowd if you go on Saturday - basically a never ending line of Uber drop-offs. --------------------- This Brewery was packed and I can see why, the beer was awesome. The variety, the flavors, they had something for everyone. Some great Berliner Weiss coming out of this brewery right now. Some interesting test-batchy sort of funky stuff. The atmosphere was awesome - strange and awesome. Take a good look at the paintings on the walls. The staff was great- helpful, quick. Overall a great experience. Good place to hangout, lots of seating, brewery tours if you get bored. Overall, easily a top contender of breweries I have visited. Stopped by today for the 2 pm tour and stuck around for a few more hours enjoying the beer! It's tucked away on a side street in Bloomingdale and is a great way to see beer being made and get chatting with people who are very passionate about their craft. The beer is great - definitely go for the flight! I do wish the space was a bit larger. They mentioned hopefully getting a patio in the summer and I hope that happens soon! read more

Great spot for a beer (or a growler fill) if you live in the Brookland area. Very laid-back atmosphere with some outdoor seating. Raised By Wolves and Haxan are classics. Lots of "session" options, which I appreciate. While they seem to have an aversion to IPAs, I do wish they would experiment with more hop-forward beers. read more

Stopped by yesterday to give them a try at the recommendation of another brewery friend. We enjoyed ourselves. We had flights and half-pours to give several beers a try. I came here for a bachelorette party where we were trying different breweries around town and Right Proper was our second stop. They don't have any food but my friend called ahead and they recommended Menomale pizza that we could bring into the bar while we drank which ended up being a great suggestion. I guess sometimes they have food trucks on the weekends but they didn't the day we were there. I guess technically there was a waitress who was walking around but it wasn't that frequently so we ordered at the bar. They have a nice selection of all of their beers, a really long list, that you can order in pint size, $2 flight size or in a growler to take home. I tried three of their flight sizes as did my friend. The woman at the bar we ordered from seemed like she couldn't be bothered and she didn't give us the paper flight explanation sheet so I honestly don't know what I drank, but I enjoyed all of them. The waitress who came around irregularly was friendlier. The place was packed when we were there; I assume it's usually slammed on the weekends so we were lucky to grab some tables. There are tours on a regular basis that they announced to folks drinking in case you wanted to join. Disturbing and amusing murals on the wall. So good! The beer was excellent. We had the Delicious Vinyl, No Depression, and a Bayern Corvo. We needed up getting a growler of the No Depression. We also order some "sharsies", the pretzel and dip and cornbread. All was delicious. Especially the pretzel and the dip that comes with it. Coffee was perfect. The place has a neat vibe, the art in the walls is fun and interesting. I loved how they had their bathrooms set up. No "boy/girl" crap, just a separate area with separate, very private, little stalls with the sink and everything in it. Will come again when in DC next! read more

A small tasting room fairly close to the Brookland metro. I liked the atmosphere here and there were a couple beers on the menu that I could definitely get into. The Astral Weeks, particularly. They do tours here as well (for free, I think) which is nice. Great service and we had no problem finding a seat so it was a hit. read more

This is a great place! A fun and professional establishment. Do not confuse this place with their store front on T Street. No hipsters. No wannabe gourmets food. Although I haven't explored much of the DC beer scene, I would like to say Right Proper has some of the best beer I've tried in the area. A couple of friends and I met up for lunch at the Shaw Pub and it was brought up that none of us had seen their production facility. Naturally, the next appropriate course of action would be to go -- so we did. We made it there about 20 minutes before their next free tour and decided to see how it stacked up against other tours we've gone on. While their facility is on the smaller side, our tour guide's knowledge about their product and the brewing process was incredible! I couldn't believe anyone could know this much about beer and I'm not going to lie...I was jealous. This location did offer several types of beer that were not at the Shaw location, including their Bière de Garde, Baron Corvo, which was delightful. I eagerly await my next trip to Right Proper. read more

So much better than RP on T St!! Better atmosphere, much friendlier staff and a focus on the brew and not the food. My only, albeit slight, complaint is the shortage of seating. Otherwise, top notch. Will definitely come back. read more
