The positives: The service was very good, and very friendly. They were immediately very engaging with us. When we told them we were in Vancouver on vacation, they asked us where we were staying, and where we were from, and conversed with us on those topics. We also noticed that someone at another table ordered a steak, and they showed them the steak before they cooked it! I have seen that done with lobsters, but steak? Not sure if that is the policy of Riley's to do that, or if it was a difficult customer who asked to see the steak before it was cooked. The not-so-goods: The food was good, but not great, and at the prices you pay, you want the quality to be better. My wife and I both ordered the lobster chowder. I really liked it, but my wife was indifferent. For our main courses, she had the seafood rigatoni, which she found a bit too spicy but thought the seafood tasted fresh, especially the prawns. I ordered something listed as the salmon "steak." I was expecting a thick piece of salmon, but received something that I would classify as something closer to a filet. While it was good, it wasn't something all that different from what I make for myself every 1-2 months. Also, this place was very loud, and it was often hard to have a conversation with my wife during our meal. Now, it could have been that we had the unfortunate luck to sit near two very loud tables, but one of the tables, the table for eight, was very, very close to where we sat. Maybe put some more distance between the tables. So to summarize, really great service, but the food wasn't great, and at those prices, you expect better. Was I happy I went there? Yes, I was. Would I go back there again? Yes, I would. But we would definitely order different things if we went back. read more

Riley's is my favourite romantic date night spot for fresh fish and delicious appetizers. The staff here are extremely friendly and delightful - they truly take care of you here! The food is always incredible - our favourites to get here are the brioche and beef carpaccio (I dream about them every so often). They both are so buttery soft and tender, must get items for sure. For mains, we got the scallops and miso sablefish. They were both perfectly cooked and had a nice crust. The brioche and a main each is enough for a couple to share; don't let the portion scare you! Visiting on business. Dinner for four. Really nice ambiance, excellent service. Two of us had Sable fish, VERY good, reminded us of Sea Bass. One had a pecan crusted halibut which was also excellent. We came here for our anniversary. Ordered calamari and brioche for appetizers, steak & frites and seafood rigatoni for our main, then sunset and calamansita for our drinks. All i can think is, too pricey. Portions were enough for one person but might not be enough if you're a good eater. Calamari's taste is good, but portion was smaller compared to other restaurant like cactus club and earl. Steak was seasoned well, still pricey, you can get this half price to others with same quality. rigatoni's seafood was fresh and the sauce was really good, portion was enough for one person. Drinks were around 19-20cad for 2oz and 4oz, tastes were better compared to others. Service is good, the server was attentive and friendly. Ambiance was great, just because there were only 3 table occupied at that time so it was not noisy. Over all, food was good but too pricey and portion were small for its price. If you want the food, it's better to go to other restaurant (cactus club, earl or keg) for the same quality but cheaper plus they give you a complimentary dessert. we walked in just before 4:30 pm on a friday (valentine's day) without resos, and, of course, the place was packed. but hey, when every day is valentine's day, who needs reservations? the food had its moments, but the real stars were the bartenders--shoutout to sarah, nico, and oscar. we grabbed the best seats in the house and had front-row entertainment as they mixed drinks and kept the energy light. yes, we were entertained. my spouse had three beers and i had the ketel one peach & orange blossom, and ketel one grapefruit & rose, both were light, and tasted like juice, and then it hit me. as for the food, the happy hour salt and pepper calamari was alright, though the caper aioli had a bit of a weird aftertaste. the beef slider was solid, but heavy on the sauce. the wagyu, sliced super thin, had good flavour, though a few pieces were a little chewier than expected. the truffle fries? more parmesan than truffle, we could not taste the truffle. and the buttermilk fried chicken was basically popcorn chicken--crispy and snackable, just not what we had envisioned. for a michelin guide recommended spot, we were hoping for a bit more, but the bartenders absolutely made the night. three stars for the food, but the bartenders? they bumped the experience up to a solid four. read more

Been here a few times for happy hour and lunch. They have a a pretty good menu and the service is consistent. The place is well decorated as with the other Glowbal group restaurants. I prefer the beef carpaccio at Black and Blue but I have co-workers who disagree with me. Either way, I enjoy coming here for happy hour. Been there many times and yet to disappoint from a food and service perspective. The food is always delicious and fresh.

A friend and I went out for a pre-long weekend lunch last Friday. We wanted somewhere lively with sumptuous foods. She suggested the $17 Friday burger & beer lunch special at Riley's so off we went. Although we arrived just afternoon and it was busy, it wasn't;t difficult to get a table outside. I think many people were rushing off to be home or out of town for the long weekend. We knew what we wanted so lunch came quickly. The buns were warm and soft. They might have been brioche but I'm not sure. The patty was thick, juicy and charbroiled-flavourful. Although I seldom eat burgers in Canada because provincial regulations do not allow ground beef to be served less than well done, the burgers we had were very juicy. My friend and I both picked a lager for our lunch specials. We were served Stanley Park Park Sesh Lager. I am not a beer drinker but the lager was light, refreshing and a sweetness to it. It brought back fond memories of having shandies in my younger days. It was so good I bought a 6-pack this weekend! read more

Came by Riley's on a Tuesday with the Buy Up promotion ($130 for a $230 set menu for 2 persons). This is a very popular promotion and I could see most tables were there for this promotion. Riley's is located at the top of Burrard St across the Convention Center and used to be a Rogue before it shut down during COVID. Loved the high ceilings and all the natural light...and also the individual washrooms. Now for the food... They brought out three appetizers to start: a brioche loaf with lobster oil, a salmon rillette with sourdough and beef carpaccio with truffle aioli. Nice presentation on all three but do not think two bread items were necessary. I was not a fan of the salmon rillette. The brioche loaf with lobster oil was the star of the first courses. Next was followed with a striploin (cooked perfectly) with a lobster cut in half, prawn fried rice, roasted maitake mushroom and mashed potatoes with black truffles. Again the presentation was great for all the dishes. The taste of the mushroom and rice was ok but a bit bland. I really enjoyed the steak sitting with the tuffle mashed potatoes...a great combination of taste and flavours. The last course was a rhubarb custard cake. It was a perfect end to a large meal. Stopped by for happy hour and left feeling satisfied. The restaurant has plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. The decor is quite nice and everyone was friendly. The happy hour menu has a good variety of options. We tried only three things, but I'd happily come back to try other items. Mussels and clams- they have two options but we went with the white wine and garlic. You can get just mussels or clams or a mix of both, which is what we opted for. There were only two pieces of bread served with it, so I wish they gave a little bit more or cut it into smaller pieces. The seafood was fresh and the clams were huge. I've never seen clams so big before. Buttermilk crispy chicken- the chicken was crisp and tossed in honey. It was nice to have the savoury and sweet mix. This was a decent portion. Mini lobster and prawn sandwich duo- this was delicious. I just wish there was a little bit more seafood for better ratio with the bun. Otherwise the flavour was on point. Overall, I was really happy with this happy hour. Food was solid. Prices were reasonable. Menu had a good variety of choices. I'd definitely return again. read more

Metro Vancouver went nutso! Riley's Fish & Steak, put out a time limited promo - 2 can dine on Sunday or Monday for $130 (that's like $80US LOL) a great savings from the regular price of $230. However, because of huge demand, the sale ended early. Then it became a racing battle to try & get space for reservations on Sunday or Monday (valid only on these days) till the beginning of May. Well that didn't go over well - an additional booking day, Tuesday had to be added - extending the time frame till June. I got super lucky & kept checking availability - space opened up & I grabbed it no hesitation. The sooner the better I thought. Gosh check out the menu offering & you'll know why people went bananas! See pix! On the menu for - Buy Up Before the Times Up - lets start with the 3 appetizers ... Mini Riley's Broiche - OMG this one had me at Mini = goodness gracious I'm in luv! I'm definitely getting this bread next time I go back! The Beef Carpaccio was to me - comme ci comme ça = some of y'all may like it, me = it was just ok. The sauce on it could have been better in my humble opinion. The Salmon Rillette (Pate) absolutely floored me. Not really one for pate but this one had me oooooohhhhhing & aaahhhing like never before! And the cheesebread that came with it = Santa Maria slap me twice! Now onto the entrées - the Whole Roasted Prime Striploin was on point, as would be expected when serving Prime! The Lobster Gratinee (does Gratinee mean small?) was on the smaller side of lobster that I've had previously. Nonetheless it went dowwwwnnn! The Prawn Fried Rice was bland & could have used a bit of jazz aka spice. The Roasted Maitake Mushroom was very tasty - mushrooms with a twist for sure. The Potato Purée was just aight. I luv me my mash & I've have had better. Ending this off with dessert - the Rhubarb Custard Cake was excellent. Kudos to RFS for not going stingy with dessert & providing a quality ending to the entire experience. Bravo! Our server Luis was fantastic. Very helpful & prompt. There you have it. RFS is a gorgeous elegant classy restaurant right at the Waterfront - downtown. Great spot for an after dinner walk with fabulous views. The interior of RFS is quite swanky with beautiful to the eye touches. There is a a cool oyster bar for those that love oysters & a huge selection of wines - will be a great spot for groups. Speaking of wine, a couple across from us were wine tasting (the maître d' had a opened 3 bottles of wine for their table, which sat there for 25 mins before consumption) & so if you're a big wine lover, for $30+ you too can indulge. Great place to celebrate a special occasion. My server greeted me with a complementary glass of champagne for my birthday. I loved the elegant ambiance and the booth I sat in was very cozy. We came for happy hour and they have a nice selection to choose from. oysters: you can't go wrong with $1.50 West Coast oysters. wagyu beef carpaccio: this was my fave! With an open concept raw bar, cozy looking seating in the main dining area and a nice colour scheme, Just as all of the Glowbal restaurants, Riley's is very aesthetically pleasing - great for a trendy dinner for a special occasion. Each of the service staff were kind, accommodating and explained dishes very well. Food came out quickly and at nice temperatures as well. I will have to say that for the price, the steak and sides were not quite the quality that I expected (appys and martinis were though!). At the "buy up" promotion set menu price, it would be fair, some of their sister restaurants just seem to do their steaks a little better. I would note as well that the building is not automatically accessible for wheelchairs or strollers, with only stairs up to the main entrance and no automatic door opener. However, if you called in advance they could allow you access through a side door off of West Cordova. Beef carpaccio was my favourite part of the meal! Well balanced flavours. read more

Randomly stumbled upon this while walking in this area. Looks like a nice place, but not to the point where they would refuse service if you didn't happen to dress up. Ordered steak and sticky toffee dessert. I personally think bad steak is really bad, but all the good ones are comparable so it's hard for me to put a finger on what would make this place specular, but it did the job for feeding us dinner. Delicious, creative food with great service and beautiful decor. I came in a group on Valentine's and we had a great meal and great time. The staff was excellent at unobtrusively keeping us fed, hydrated, and happy. The Food was delicious. The Salmon Gravlax was more salad with accents of salmon gravlax, but the balance worked well. The Butter Poached Lobster was perfectly executed - delicious texture, cooked to the exact point of perfection. It was accompanied by roasted parsnips and gnocchi that was roasted and delicious. While I am not usually much of a sweet tooth, the Pavlova was light, fluffy, and the fruity compote had a little tartness to make it hard to resist. Is it low cost? No. Is it high value? Yes. Last visit 1/28/2024 Dine out Vancouver Ginger Pine Fizz Tart and refreshing, but more of a palette cleanser. 3.75 stars Appetizer: Wild Mushroom Soup - truffle mascarpone cream candy bacon, fine herbs: smooth and creamy, a little *too* mushroomy for my tastes, but the Mrs loved it.But once you take a spoonful with the candied bacon, the combined flavour simply made sense. 4.25 stars. Riley's Winter Salad - chicory, ricotta, pears, candied walnuts hot honey fig dressing: yes, it's merely salad. But what a tasty one; I enjoyed every bite. 4.25 stars. Brioche (not part of dine out, ordered separately): When you see bread at a high end restaurant that's $10, it's usually a good sign. It does not disappoint; like AnnaLena's amazing torn bread, Riley's brioche is an enormous, decadent, elevated feat of baking. 4.75 stars. 6oz Bacon Wrapped Tenderloin - whipped potato, winter roasted vegetables peppercorn sauce: The steak was good enough to stand on its own, so I was able to use the peppercorn sauce for the incredibly fluffy mashed potatoes. Plus the bacon already acted as seasoning on the steak. 6 Oz doesn't sound like it would be enough, but I was full enough after dinner. The carrots were as buttery as you could imagine. This would've been a 5 star entrée, but there were a couple of random hits of salt on my plate (tail end of 1 carrot, the broccoli) that lowered it to 4.75 stars. Someone was a little rushed during dine out. We could've upgraded to wagyu or added fois gras for an additional charge. Lobster Squash Ravioli - east coast lobster meat, crispy sage mushroom, sweet and sour squash: To quote the Mrs: this is all she could've asked for, for a lobster ravioli. Personally, I would've enjoyed a cream sauce, but everything on that plate was delicious. I don't even like mushrooms on their own, but they managed to even elevate those with a buttery finish & non rubbery texture (it's usually the texture that ruins them for me. But not here!) The individual, perfectly cooked pieces of lobster were quite generous as well. 5 stars. Chocolate Cake - caramel sauce, dark chocolate cremeux laminated almonds: The cake was light and fluffy, not too sweet, with the Almond brittle providing the hit of sweetness and crunch. 5 stars. Lemon Tart vanilla chantilly, shortbread tart lemon curd: Perfect sweetness and tartness, but the vanilla creme on the side was better served with the chocolate cake. Shortbread crust was crispy and buttery. 4.75 stars. Recommend: everything we ordered, but the mushroom soup won't be for you if you're not already a fan of mushrooms. Avoid: nothing really, but note that the ginger peach fizz is more of a palette cleanser. Overall 9.5/10, 4.75 stars read more

Really nice setting with great ambiance. The food was delicious and it didn't hurt that they had live music. The portions were big and I was not expecting it. I had soup for my appetizer but it came in a really big bowl. So I didn't really get to eat my main dinner, which was really tasty from the little portion I ate. I did a bit of research on the area before I got to Vancouver, and knew that my first stop would be Riley's. My hotel was within walking distance, they had a beautiful outdoor space, and their happy hour looked awesome. I literally checked in, changed clothes, and boogied on over just in time for happy hour to start. Also, this was a Sunday, LOVE that they do it every day. The restaurant is beautiful and the view from the patio is fantastic. I could see the water, the cruise ships, and some of the seaplanes taking off all while enjoying the 65 degree weather in August. Coming from Texas, everything about it was amazing. Then came the food. I ordered a cabernet and their classic steamer pot with just mussels. These were the biggest mussels I have ever seen. They were so tender and perfectly cooked. The broth was light, it added flavor without taking away from the shellfish. The bread was nice and crusty and picked up the broth perfectly. Not only were the mussels large, but so was the happy hour portion. It was a pound and half. They were some of the very best mussels I have ever had. It will be hard to go back to Vancouver and NOT immediately come right back here. The service was fantastic, 10/10 experience all around. read more

A surprisingly affordable happy hour menu. Tried about 8 dishes in total with drinks for 4 ended up about $150. The beef carpaccio was the star of the day. The buttermilk chicken, $8 truffle fries and lobster duo wasn't too bad. The seafood platter for $24 is the perfect size for one person and the calamari wasn't tough or rubbery. Like Shonah and Michael (whose reviews are below), I also had ordered the "Buy Up" Meal for Two deal for a bougie pre-set menu here at Riley's. The deal could only be used on Sundays or Mondays, and since Mother's Day was on a Sunday, I decided to dine here for my Mother's Day dinner with my kid. (SO nice that they didn't have restrictions for this special date!). I had never been to Riley's before, but whenever I've walked to Canada Place or the Convention Center, I've passed it by, and it always looked swanky from the outside. Well, now I can say that it's as nice on the inside too! Lots of greenery and twinkling white lights, very cool and contemporary suspended lighting fixtures, white linens and flowers on the tables... everything you'd expect from an elegant restaurant. When we arrived yesterday, there was a live musician with a guitar, and he was a wonderful singer! Everyone from the hostesses to our server Kristi to all the servers who brought us our many dishes and kept refilling our water cups were all fabulous. But how is the food, you may ask? In a nutshell, the food BLEW US AWAY. If ever you have the opportunity to get one of these "Buy Up" deals, don't hesitate. Truly. We got SO MUCH food, and every single dish, and every single component of every dish, was stellar. There is not one critique I can give about any of the many dishes we had, they were all phenomenal. Appetizers: hot loaf of brioche bread with whipped butter and lobster oil to dip it in (this bread was akin to a croissant with a flaky, crusty, buttery exterior and soft interior. It literally melted in your mouth); salmon rillette with sourdough toast (we loved it); beef carpaccio with truffle aioli (OMG). Mains: 10 oz prime striploin, perfectly cooked, charred exterior, medium rare interior (to die for); 1 lb whole Atlantic lobster (best lobster my kid and I ever had eaten in our lives. And I lived in Boston for 3 years!), bougie mashed potatoes (I was too full to have this. My kid ate it all and loved it!); huge shrimp/prawns atop fluffy rice (delicious); fancy roasted mushroom dish (maitake mushroom. I had never even heard of this type of mushroom! I was too full to have this but my kid raved about it). Dessert: rhubarb sutured cake with graham base and strawberry topping (OMG. I thought I was too full to have any but I miraculously made some room - and it was WORTH IT! So delicious!). We also had cocktails (they were both wonderful); the bar here is great. If you do get this deal, be sure to come hungry. The portions are large and. there is enough food for 3-4 hungry adults, easy. We brought a lot home. I can't say enough good things about this place. Amazing as always! This was the first time we attempted taking our 3 boys- plus one of their friends- to Riley's for Happy Hour. Our kids are big seafood lovers but we were cautious about taking them there- given the upscale refined atmosphere. Everyone had a fantastic time thanks to our friendly and efficient server Majid and Carly, the restaurant manager, who makes every experience there special. Ambiance: This place feels like they have a hierarchy way of seating people. They seem to put the very young, attractive people in the front of the restaurant to show they're hip and cool, and the rest of the people in the back. I could be wrong, but it was a pretty big restaurant and we were placed in the back with a lot of older people. They had a guy playing music, which was cute. They had table lamps that changed colors. During our stay, they changed it to this orange color that they claimed was more romantic, but it wasn't a soft orange. It was like emergency workers on the road orange. We changed it to a softer bluish white. This isn't a quiet place, but it isn't like your local sports bar. You'll have to raise your voice a little to hear people you're with. Everyone was dressed really nicely. Service: Now, I really wish I didn't give this review, but dear lord, I really hate being scammed and i feel like people should know. I'm going to start off by saying I don't mind spending money on something i feel is worth it, but this server was another level. Our server, Luis (Luiz?) was such an upselling snake. First he comes to our table and asks if we'd like sparkling water. Doesn't tell us that it's an extra charge. Every one of his tables starts off with sparkling water, but he doesn't ask later if we want more. He just gives you regular water after - so he knows he's selling you extra. I've been to enough restaurants where they offer still or sparkling and it's on the house (because they make their own). Wasn't an option. First upcharge. My friend orders the house wine and he tries to sell us a bottle and my friend goes, "no, I'll just have whatever glass since I'm only having two." Luis replies with, "oh so you want the 8oz?" "Sure, whatever's on the menu." Second upcharge. There wasn't an option for the 8oz on the menu. There was only one price on the menu for $17. Luis tells us about the special, which is a larger cut of steak, topped with 2 foie gras, some side stuff, and costs somewhere in the $340 range. (Again upcharge) We say no thanks, it's too much food, and he presses again for the upsell. No thank you. It's not what we want. We finish our food and we wait 20 minutes to order dessert. When he brings the dessert, we ask for the check at the same time because at this point from the time we're seated and the time we've gotten dessert, it's been 2 hours. We get the bill and see the sparkling water charge - that's super annoying, but whatever, it's a few dollars. My friend just wanted the two glasses of wine - when we looked at the check, he goes "wait, why is it $54 for 2 glasses of wine when the price stated $17 each glass?" Luis replies with, "oh it's because you got the 8oz one instead of the 5oz. Was this not what you wanted? I can go talk to the manager to see if you want it changed?" (My friend didn't see the option for another price. He just saw one price on the menu for wine.) And of course Luis relies on people not wanting to make a scene, which we didn't and just paid the difference on the bill. Food: We got the brioche (because i saw people getting it on other tables and it looked so good!), Ribeyes, side salad, foie gras, and creme brulee. Brioche: for this alone i would come back. They bring it over whole and use two forks to pull it apart. The outside is flaky and crisp, the inside is soft and chewy. It comes with a side of whipped butter and lobster butter - both of which i practically licked off the plate. It's so good. Ribeye: we ordered it med rare, and i felt like it was overcooked. The inside looked more medium than rare. The meat was tough and didn't feel like a $100 cut of meat. I've definitely spent less at other restaurants and gotten much better quality. For a steak place, they really need to up their game. (I also come from a family of butchers, so I may be biased.) Foie gras: seriously wonderful. Nice, crisp edges, while remaining buttery smooth on the inside. (Was a little cold to the tongue on the inside though.) Creme brulee: good, but nothing to really write home about. The burnt sugar topping was a little thicker than my personal preference, but it was still good. Summary: So all in all, is $30ish upcharge worth a crappy review? Likely not, but it is one of those places where I felt like I got scammed and would honestly prefer to spend my money on another place with more honest staff. I'm sure all this guy cares about is his percentage tip at the end of the day. I can't tell you if other servers at this place practices this, but I wouldn't risk it for the food. Maybe come here for the brioche. It's super good. Hats off to the bakery chef. I would get super fat from this if i lived here. read more

Food was overall good. However, for the price, I'm not sure I'd go again instead of one of the many other restaurants in the area. The carpaccio was a little under salted, the calamari's batter wasn't crispy though the flavour was good. I appreciated that the salad wasn't overdressed. The service was really good. read more
