CHURRASCO SÁNDWICH I had the Churrasco Sandwich combo and found it flavorful but not overly filling. The steak was thinly sliced and the avocado was ripe. The churrasco green sauce is a must add. The fries were typical fries, so you won't miss anything if you do just the sandwich. BEEF EMPANADA I came when a new batch of empanadas were sitting out cooling and I couldn't pass this up. The beef emanada had juicy spiced ground beef and onion inside. It was a little oily but not terrible. The dough had an interesting sweetness to it which contrasted well with the savory beef. Just beware of the big black olive hiding inside. I almost bit into it--and I hate olives. :-) There are also items from Chile or South America available at this location. Authentic Chilean place! The umitas (sp) were really good and extremely filling. I ate them in Chile a couple years back and couldn't believe they had them here. Husband says this place is very authentic, although not everything is Chilean. They kind of have a mix of all South American fare, including inka kola and some wines. The bread is really good! We bought a bunch, froze em and made breakfast with it. The empanadas were really good too, especially the spinach and cheese. Wish I didn't wait so long to review this place, but I'll try my best to remember my experience from over a month ago. Stumbled upon this place on a walk from a nearby CF gym. It's in a little shopping strip right off the street and doesn't look super inviting, but looks like your typical family-owned, kind of grubby, kind of homey place. There are two sides to it--one is a restaurant and the other is like a little pick-up-and-go area. Despite their hours claiming it was open, the doors were locked at the time of my visit. I saw a man sitting in the restaurant, so I knocked and told him I wanted some empanadas. He said he would open the other door for me, and he did. The staff inside was busy baking and getting food ready for the day. Everyone inside was really friendly and were happy to answer all of my questions. I've never had Chilean pastries, so I wanted to try everything. (Also, I should note that I speak Spanish, which made it really easy to communicate with the staff.) I got four different kinds of empanadas, including spinach, beef, and chicken. I believe I loved them all, but my friend and I were especially fond of the chicken. Chilean empanadas have a much thicker crust than I'm used to and are really hearty. These Chilean alfajores were a little different than others I've had before. Like the empanada, they had a thicker and breadier pastry, but because dulce de leche is so damn good and they put a pretty decent amount in there...they were still delicious. Mote con huesillo is their typical drink and honestly, not my favorite. It tastes like a lightly sweetened peach tea, but it's full of barley, which makes for an interesting texture experience in your mouth. My family is originally from Chile and this has been our go to spot since my mom was a kid in the 70's. I grew up with this place. I've even gone to Chile to visit family and I think these are still my favorite empanadas! First, I love that it's a family run place. The owner Ricardo is the most sweet and gentle man. The whole family helps run it and I've always admired that they've kept this place going. I really don't know what I would do if it ever closed down. It's the closest thing to Chile in California. They carry so many Chilean items inside their to-go shop. Rincon has two parts, it's a restaurant and a quick deli shop for to go orders. The restaurant is a great little place to get dine and enjoy the taste of South America. It's nothing fancy but it's a great spot to share in with someone special. For lunch I'd recommend getting either the Churrasco or of course some delicious empanadas. You really can't go wrong here! Everything has flavor and quality! Rincon Chileno isn't much to look at. One tiny table with four basic wooden chairs, plus a four foot counter at the front window with two tiny steel stools. On one of the dirtiest blocks in East Hollywood. No off street parking. Run down, dingy, stuffy, claustrophobic. But I still enjoyed my large meat empanada. The only filling empanada they sell. Reasonably priced at $4.50 The ham and cheese empanada at $3.50 is about a quarter the size of the large ground beef and onions turnover. They also have spinach, spinach and cheese, and chicken empanadas. And about a dozen types of Chilean cookies. read more

I was extremely happy to have found them. The empanada de Pino (beef) was exactly like the empanadas I used to eat as a child in Chile. They're big and baked. The inside is filled with beef, onions, olives, hard boiled egg, and raisins. I took some to my father and he felt nostalgic.. He almost cried eating the empanadas. I did not sit down and have a meal here. I saw it as I was driving and suddenly the idea of an empanada sounded really good. So I parked, slipped inside, looked the place over, and walked out with a sack off yummy meat pies. It was the perfect snack. I had four kinds, Cheese, ham, chicken, and beef. The crust was a little dry when I got a bite without the filling. But as soon as I chomped down into the meat, it all balanced out perfectly. I did need a soda, because I ate my empanadas right out of the bag in my car as I drove across town in traffic. But I think that it would have been better with a beer, and even more improved by eating the empanadas with a nice vinegary salad or some soup or a gravy. It just needs a savory moist side dish to make the empanada perfect. Otherwise, I want to eat these in my car again soon. read more

OK OK, well not necessarily one of the most fancy or sharp decorated restaurants, actually the aesthetics of it are pretty basic. You would probably walk by and think not much of this place. However there is one thing going for it, the food. Came here for a birthday dinner and well everything went smooth since it was dead when we arrived. Maybe 3 other tables taken. Also the food seems to be cooked on the spot, which is a good thing, just keep in mind it takes a while, so dont come here if you are starving per say. The staff were ok, again not much else going on so would be terrible to get bad service in an empty place like this one. I may or may not be back, they do have a small spot next door where you can buy small Chilean treats but nothing crazy. Parking is ok, plenty street parking. If you are in the mood for Chilean this would be maybe one of the better spots to come to. read more

I'll start by saying that I am Chilean and have grown up with this food and know what it is supposed to taste like. This is not it. It angers and embarrasses me to think that people may think that this what food tastes like in Chile. It does not. Food only tastes like this in prison. Let me begin with my order. The chacarrero is on the wrong type of bread, the green beans were from a can, tomatoes old, there was no palta or mayo. The green beans were from a can, just needs to be repeated. And on top of that they didn't even cut them the proper way. There is no way a Chilean made this chacarrero. Impossible. The cheese empanadas consisted of greasy dough fried in old grease with a block of cheese that was hard. The meat empanada, which is a holy thing in Chile (all Sunday parillas start with empanadas), was a soggy sponge of dough filled with old meat. The ensalada chilena had to be spat out, they couldn't bother rinsing the onions. It takes a lot of work to fail as badly as el Rincón. Would you like to hear about their desserts? The mil hojas cake had the shine of an old rock in an abandoned graveyard. The mote con huesillo had dust on it. Who knows how long it's been sitting on a shelf (it should be refrigerated). I have no idea who owns and runs this place but they can't be Chilean, we have too much pride to serve prison food. Please close your doors or sell it to someone who gives a shit about Chile and its food. read more

Of course my visit was initiated by other Yelper's recommendations. I was very excited to visit this place since my last trip to Chile in May of this year. I came with high expectations due to my aunt's fine cooking abilities. The drive there was a mission. They were not kiiding about the neighborhood. Anytime you have someone at the end of an alley sitting on a chair, monitoring traffic, your spider senses must be on point. I parked around the corner at a meter parking spot. The restaurant is not fancy by any means. I entered and noticed that it was unusually dim. The lights were all off and they were using natural light. The ceilings were quite low. It was also a one woman show. Couldn't help but notice the tv monitor that had a camera overseeing the bakery next door. I ordered the Barros Lusco sandwich and the Chicken Sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent. I waited about twenty minutes for my order. The walls had some pretty cool art pieces from Chile. The pictures depicted several regions in Chile. During my wait I exited the restaurant and popped in next door to the bakery. I heard that the cheese and spinach empanadas were great. I ordered two of those and two of the ground beef empanadas. I have to admit that the meals were very close to my aunt's cooking. I'd stick with the takeout here. I wouldn't trust the neighborhood with my vehicle. I'll definetely be stopping here again. read more

Fantastic Empanadas! I was in Santiago Chile for 5 weeks in their Spring 2004. I had an amazing time...besides the kind Chilean people, the mix of the old and new architecture and wine....I remember the food the most! The fruit was like none that I have ever tasted...so ripe, sweet and big. The seafood was fresh amd the empanadas were to die for! Since then, I've searched all over and Rincon Chileno is the closest to the real thing. The owner is very sweet and passionate about his food. There is a restaurant attached to the deli as well. My favorite empanada is the cheese...I love to eat them with their green salsa. Also in the deli are a few grocery items such as spices, sauces and dried goods as well as pastries. Amazing!! I stumbled upon this place after getting lost and man am I happy I did. This sandwich is life changing. The chicken is cooked and seasoned perfectly--the bun is clearly home made -- probably today! Fresh avocado and deep red garden grown tomatoes. The flavors and freshness are explosive and this hearty sandwich comes with a really interesting side salad and French fries all for 7.95. I will be coming back and bringing friends for sure! Prior to this place, I have never had Chilean food before, so I can't speak to the authenticity. However, I have had empanadas, lomo saltado, and chicken milanesa, and this place holds up pretty well. The empanadas are seriously AMAZING. They smell like chicken nuggets (they don't taste like chicken nuggets), in the best kind of way. The cheese ones OOZE with soft, white cheese, and the meat ones are nicely seasoned with onions and various other things. Top it off with their green salsa. We left with two boxes of these. I wasn't too impressed with the carne macha. I'm 90% sure that's not the correct name of it - it's their most popular dish according to the waiter. Basically, it's braised beef in a tomato sauce. Braised red meat almost always tastes delicious. This is no exception, but it tasted like any old braised beef dish. The chicken milanesa, on the other hand, was the best I've had. The chicken is cooked adequately and the breading on it was perfect. Not too thick, not too thin, not too greasy, and perfectly crunchy. What makes it extra delicious is the green salsa - much tastier than any old milanesa sauce. Service was also not slow at all. We did show up close to closing hour, so they were probably less busy than they usually are, but they were speedy with our food and drinks. It's all about the alfajores here. If you haven't tried an alfajor, let me describe this absolutely delectable delight. It's a melt-in-your mouth South American sandwich type of cookie. The two cookie "parts" are somewhat like shortbread, very buttery but not as heavy and dense. The cookies are usually dusted in powdered and completely melt in your mouth. The middle part is made of dulce de leche which is another melt in your mouth yumminess. It's like a delicate mix of caramel, milk, and nutella. I'm no expert at South American desserts but I do know my desserts and I will drive far and wide to come here for these. Minus one star for not always being readily available. I assume the cookies are labor intensive? We drove all the way here last week and there was only 1 left! So, of course I got it but I was truly disappointed. :( read more
