Like other reviewers, I don't expect much from Eastgate in terms of cuisine. On an off chance, we were in the neighborhood and were hungry. Our dinners were delicious, however we ordered queso dip and were given chips for it after the cheese had grown cold. We asked for it to be removed from our bill and was offered 5% off our bill. This is a very good and truly authentic restaurant. I have yet to try a dinner item that I didn't care for. I'm a very big fan of all the different flavors of margaritas. The tacos, the Tacos Rincon, and the fajitas are my personal favorites. I recommend starting with the queso (cheese dip), which comes in two sizes. There are occasions where the service is sub par, but the food more than makes up for it. If you're planning a visit on a Friday or Saturday evening, expect a wait. This is a solid authentic Mexican place. The flavors are amazing. The queso is great but order the small unless you have a group. The Tacos Rincon are authentic and delicious. Simple but perfect. The Mexican Flag Burrito is also a good choice. They have amazing sauces and this burrito showcases three of them. The red is spicy but flavorful and the green is fresh and limey. This has been out go to Mexican place for years but I will say that the last time we went the service was horrible. I'm thinking it must be a fluke since we have gone regularly for 5 years and this is the first time. We will be back and hope this was just an off night. read more

You'll probably have a hard time finding this place, unless you're going to the movies or have been here before. It is hidden behind a large tree, immediately to the right of the movie theater. THERE, I saved you a drive around the parking lot...you're welcome! I love when places have Cherry Coke on tap. This place does. Well done! The booth seats are unusually shallow. I had to sit up straight to keep from falling off. It wasn't terribly uncomfortable, but it definitely felt odd when I first sat down. The place is bigger than it looks and you should have no trouble getting seated even during busy times. There is also a separate bar if you're just looking to drink. The food was good, and the service was fine. Nothing that really stood out either way. But considering there aren't too many Mexican options in the vicinity I think I'll be revisiting Rincon when I'm in the area. read more

I have been eating here for many years but after tonight I will not return. We ordered quest dip and when I asked for salsa , was told it was an addition $2 -$4. I need to update my review because something needs to change. I love this place and the food is amazing so We brought some friends here and it was their first time. We had a bit of catching up to do so we did not really mind the wait, but it took our server a long time to get to us even to say hi and get us some waters, we also threw in some queso with the drink order since we love it with our chips. It took the waiter a long while to get us the chips and salsa, then a while for the queso to come out, and when it did, we were out of chips and we had to waive down another waiter to grab us some chips. Then we waited a while before he came to collect drink orders, then a while for the drinks to come out, then dinner came super quickly and then a long while for him to come back and a long while after we had asked for the check. Having had several of our group in food service we just assumed our young waiter was overwhelmed and just needed more training. As I went to pay at the desk I asked the lady attendant if she was the manager. She said she was "one of the managers" so I told her "I think our waiter could use a bit more training" in a low voice so she could hear, but without making it a big deal. Instead of recognizing constructive criticism given with compassion (because I really do love this place and want them to succeed and I definitely was NOT looking for discounts), she got snippy with me about how everyone came in at the same time and the kitchen got crowded. I was absolutely understanding of a young waiter needing a bit of help and some pointers, but I was insulted by the manager when all I was trying to do was alert her on an easy way to improve the customer experience ( said experience pointed to a fast kitchen and a server who did not know the tricks of the trade). read more

The food was okay. What I didn't like was they charge for chips and salsa. What's that about. I was visiting friends in the eastgate area. We were surprised when the waiter mentioned that. On my side of town no Mexican restaurant charges for this. For the people in that area boycott that place you have other choices. Went on a Saturday . Waited about 20 minutes for a party of 4 (about normal on a Saturday night). Once seated the tables were a little small and pretty close to other tables in proximity. If your a bigger person ask for a table . We ordered our drinks and a appetizers . The chorizo queso is really good would recommend. It came out in about 5-10 minutes . We ordered right before the apps came out. I ordered steak and chicken fajitas and my girlfriend ordered chicken , the other couple got chimichangas and a quesadilla. The food came really fast, the fajitas had the sizzling going on. The food was great, service was great, atmosphere was good even with the live band. Only reason for a 4 Star is the seating. This is a Mexican restaurant for people for hate the usual Mexican restaurant scene and food. I like Mexican food, but it's not my go to and it's not something I ever crave. My wife on the other hand, LOVES it and it would be her choice of dinner 9 times out of 10. That being said, I indulge her on occasion and we have been to lots of Mexican places for dinner over the years. Most of those places are run of the mill, the food looks like diarrhea on a plate and are comprised of like 5 ingredients with no flavor or spices. This is where Rincon sets itself apart! The food here all looks and smells enticing and tastes amazing. Steak looks like steak and veggies are all fresh and cooked to perfection. The decor is nice and the environment is warm and relaxing. Some nights they have live music which is a nice addition. I have never had a wait to be seated, but maybe we have just been lucky because the place is always pretty hoppin'. Staff is always super nice and courteous. We have tried several dinners on the menu and have never been disappointed by a single one. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. It might just become your new fav and set a higher standard for Mexican cuisine expectations for you. read more

I have been going to this place for over 10+ years now with my family, this is authentic Mexican quality food that reminds me a lot of living in New Mexico where I grew up. I grew up in a small town in TN, then during my 20 years in the Air Force spent several years in San Antonio. I had never really had Mexican food until then. I grew to love the food in San Antonio. The only place I have found with great Mexican food other than in TX is at the Rincon Mexicano in Eastgate! Everything is great, from the drinks to the chips and salsa, to every entree I've tried. We've traveled quite a bit and this has to be the worst Mexican restaurant ever. The food was extremely salty and mediocre at best. The chips are cheap quality and very hard. Everything tasted like it was warmed up from the night before. The service was horrible, The hostess was lifeless, not a welcome or a smile. I had to track down someone just to get a refill on my water. After we left I forgot my wallet, went back in and it was "missing" I asked and no one saw it but as soon as I asked for a manager one of the staff hurried out the side door to his car and magically found it. We've been customers of Rincon since Biggs existed (so a LONG time). Until our last visit it was always our first choice for Mexican. No more. They now charge you for chips and salsa (i get refills, but come on?!?). When i saw that they added sides other than rice and beans, and that salsa was a side item i thought maybe that was why and could get on board with options. So i ordered salsa as one of my sides. Dinner showed up... my side of salsa was literally a side of salsa. Absolutely my bad for assuming it would come with chips (since I don't normally just eat salsa alone out of the bowl).
