I dined here tonight as a solo diner, as I have done in my previous visits around the same time, and this is the first time I've ever felt ignored and looked over. I was told I could sit anywhere, I took my usual seat at 45 on the counter facing the wall. 3-4 other tables walked in after me and received water, table service, and placed orders before I turned around to ask for water and service. They almost seemed surprised that I had spoken to them and realized I had not been serviced. Is it because I am a solo diner and parties of 2-4 people had walked in? The food is always great and usually the service is too. They were very quick to hand me the bill but immediately went to other tables to take orders from other patrons. I understand things get busy in a restaurant, but today's service was a serious miss and made me feel I needed to change my go-to Japanese dinner eatery. My mom always comes to get the Oyakodon which I would highly recommend. Super delicious!!! She always gets extra sauce added which just adds to the overall flavor. Very reasonable for the amount you get! It also comes with a miso soup, which is not like your traditional miso soup. I was not a fan of the miso soup, it was salty and not a comforting flavor I am use to. It was my first time eating here so I decided to try their Nagasaki Champon which seems to be a special dish for them. The tonkotsu was full of flavor with the tiniest bit of spice. I loved the homemade noodles. They were a delicious texture and extremely easy to eat as they weren't extremely long. The shrimp was great quality and the roasted pork belly was full of flavor and extremely fatty. The rich flavor of the pork belly added so much flavor and the three big pieces were the perfect amount to balance the dish. There were a lot of vegetables including cabbage, corn, string beans, bean sprouts, and onions. I am not the biggest veggie eater so there was more than I would like but they added a great texture and some good sweet flavors. read more

I don't recommend this place because of BAD SERVICES. THE SERVER AND MANAGER ARE VERY DISRESPECTFUL AND RUDE. I ordered niku udon, and I asked the female server multiple times (3 times) if it was beef and she verbalized that it was. We waited for 20 mins and they served us a PORK MEAT without telling us. I spoke to the server very nicely and calmly but he kept arguing with me as well as the manager. They didn't show remorse for what happened, instead, they gave us a BAD ATTITUDE, raising their voice at us and both the server and manager aggressively widened their eyes at us. This place is really good if you are looking for Japanese comfort food. Everything is just good, nothing fancy or intimadating. Just wholesome warm food. Service staff is great, very polite, and attentive. I got the Katsudon and Niku Udon and it was wondeful! The only knock on this place is that they are severely understaffed. The couple times I came, they had a lot of people waiting and a lot of open tables at the same time. A lot of people just simply signed in and left. I'm still going to come back as much as possible. The service is down right lousy. We were just seated, Saturday December 21, 3:05 pm. Other patrons came in after us were seated too and their orders were taken before us and we don't know why. We didn't ask for more time and really wanted to try the food. This type of service is not acceptable because the wait help is costing the restaurant loss of sales and reputation. We waited 15 minutes and only got water. We were upset and just got up and left. I don't want to cause a scene. Loss of sales for the restaurant today was only about $85 for 2 people. I just ate at the Ringer Hut in Nagasaki during a recent trip. It's a peculiar name but interestingly it's named after a prominent British merchant named Frederick Ringer who settled in Nagasaki during the 1800's. In the 70's some Japanese businessmen adopted the name Ringer and added hut to it as Pizza Hut was exploding at the time. This Ala Moana location is near where the old post office was BTW. Two ladies handled the entire place in excellent fashion. Friendly and efficient. I got to meet manager Kohei who came from a Ringer Hut in Tokyo. It's a popular chain in Japan. With Kohei at the helm these dishes were just like eating in Nagasaki. So Ono!! Sara Udon and the Champon are a must. The Karamaro Champon and Karaage are also excellent. Kohei and just one other woman prepared all the food. It's a big place with a huge kitchen, but the team made it seem like 10 people worked there. GEN PearlRidge, you need to learn something from these folks. Prices are super reasonable. I'll try to go every time I go to Ala Moana. Gochisosama deshita! read more

This is a fast food chain from Japan. Prices at this location are pretty high for what your get and they charge to go order fees. The go to order fee isn't just 2 dollars they stack extra little fees for some of the items. Also the to go order wasn't packed well with several items leaking. Got the Spicy Champon, Spicy Karamaro Champon, and oroshi ponzu gyoza. Taste was good and portions ok. The pork belly that came with the Spicy Champon was horrible. It was pure fat. My partner and I came here to eat on Tuesday around 5:30 PM and it wasn't busy (3 tables were taken) so we got seated right away. The staff was very friendly and greeted us immediately. We got our menus and there is a large selection with lots of variety, which was nice. We had a hard time choosing what to eat since everything looked really good. We ended up going with the Shoyu Ramen (2 pieces of Kakuni meat), Kakuni Shoyu Ramen (5+ pieces of Kakuni meat), gyoza, and shrimp tempura. All of the food we ordered was so tasty, especially the Kakuni meat in the ramen (so tender and flavorful). The food came out so fast and the waiters were quick to top off our waters and make sure we didn't need anything. We paid $49 without tip for all the food, which I thought was a pretty good deal. Went on a Saturday and there was a little bit of a wait time. Ordered the Nagasaki Saraudon which is basically crispy fried noodles with gravy and other toppings. The mentaiko cheese gyoza was good with a crispy shell and moist filling. The mentaiko was not as strong as I expected it to be. The mentaiko paste looked a little more watery than in the menu picture. The Saraudon was not bad but it just did not hit the spot for me. I enjoyed the crispy noodles but the sauce felt like it was missing something to really complement the noodles. The sauce gravy was a little thicker cake noodle gravy. My other friends all enjoyed their ramen (shoyu and Nagasaki champon). I sampled a little of their ramen but did not seem to compare to other specialty ramen restaurants. But overall the staff was friendly and menu prices were reasonable but quality reminds me of those ramen chains. They do offer an expansive menu though so it would be an option for group meals. read more

I ordered the Niku udon but they ran out of the beef but substitute it their pork. They gave a generous portion of their pork and it was very delicious. I couldn't finish it. Highly recommend this place. A note of caution, If they get busy, your order may take longer about 15 minutes. So if you're looking a quick turnaround go when they're not as busy. read more
