We stayed here with our family after booking through Airbnb and honestly loved the whole experience. The lodge has a super cozy forest atmosphere, it's very quiet, relaxing, and the hostess was incredibly kind and welcoming. It's the kind of place where you can truly disconnect and enjoy nature. We'll definitely be back -- I still need to settle unfinished business with the local fishing spots because I forgot my "lucky lures" at home Only a couple of tiny things that could maybe be improved: the coffee wasn't really our favorite, and the BBQ area could use a little love. When you need a cheap room with a place to stay in then this is it. However, it was kinda a mess. Bed frame was all janky, making noises like it was gonna break all night. The internet was so bad you couldn't even watch tv or your your phone (zero cell service so you really need to rely on WiFi which clearly was bad bad.)The couch looked like it with through 30 lives with the amount of stains, I didn't bare to sit on it. The shower also immediately flooded above the ankle when showering. I have photos of sheets with black mold on it. Idk just seems someone bought the property with no actual property management skills and I understand it's Guerneville, I get it, not looking for 5 stars but lord this place was like a trap house inside the hotel rooms. Also I left a lighter outside my room and walked to the market (50 feet away) and the maintenance guy took the lighter than proceeded give me another lighter (after approaching him) which was filled with weed/hash all over the bottom. The couple next door said he did the same thing to them) Overall it kind of was the expectation of a cheap room in Guerneville. Kinda sad since the adjacent Rio Nido Roadhouse is the coolest place in Rido Nido. Gave them a 5/5. read more

We won a raffle for two nights at Rio Nido Lodge and stayed in the honeymoon suite, and it was even better than expected. From the moment we arrived, everything felt special and thoughtfully done. The suite had its own private enclosed area with a fire pit and a jacuzzi, which made it feel incredibly intimate and relaxing. The bed was hands down the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I could honestly stay in it all day and would come back just to sleep in that bed again. They provided yummy snacks, there is a full kitchen, and the space itself was very cozy and warm. It felt like the perfect place to fully unwind and enjoy the stay. Everyone at the lodge was extremely friendly and welcoming. The bar is just a few steps down, which was very convenient, and during Christmas the lodge is absolutely beautiful. They had a huge Christmas tree that made the entire place feel magical and festive. I would highly recommend staying here. I've been here twice now in the past month or two for breakfast and I really enjoy the ambiance inside and the surrounding grounds of the lodge. Both times I've basically had my pick of the whole place as far as seating goes and haven't had to wait, which is great. I also love the fact that the coffee is self-serve because having to wait for a refill can be a huge bummer sometimes if it's really busy. The first time I visited, they had a waffle special with a berry compote and house-made whipped cream or vanilla topping that was really delicious. The second time I came, the only special for the day was the breakfast burrito which I wasn't interested in. I ended up ordering off the regular menu and got a breakfast sandwich and it was just okay. It wasn't very memorable but it was the only option on the menu that spoke to me. I understand why they keep the breakfast menu small as it appeared to be a one woman show both times I visited, however it leaves something to be desired. I would definitely consider coming back if I knew they were offering the waffle special again, but I'm not sure how far in advance that is announced, if at all. Even better would be if it became a permanent menu item! I'll keep an eye on their social media and/or website to see if there's any intel on what offerings are available on certain days and see if that can lure me back. Came here for a drink! Really appreciated the curated wine selection here. I got a glass of Sonoma cab and they opened a new bottle, price $14. The bar has a pool table, small gift shop and joins onto the lobby area of the lodge. It's nice when employees know what they're pouring and the woman behind the counter was no exception. My friend wasn't sure which white wine she wanted, so she was offered three samples of wine to choose. Ended up meeting quite a few locals and made some new friends in the process. Stayed the night recently while in the area, and enjoyed the restaurant, lounge and overnight lodging. Booked a king room with a private outside hottub. Checkin in all automated and online, no real human interaction. Door code sent via email the morning before my arrival. My initial email was never responded too, it is what it is. The room was comfortable, a little small for the size of the bed with the huge headboard and footboard, the room was literally all bed. A small "kitchenette" alcove. Coffee but not filters or way to actually make coffee? The shower was okay, fair water pressure and clean. The hottub was at 104 and covered on my arrival, it worked as intended. It served its purpose. Food in the lodge and the lounge and bar area, the food is really good. What we had the night of our visit, freshly made and full flavored. The bartender was kind and professional, he also was our server and brought our food out to the area we were sitting outside under the tall trees. A lot of the locals frequent this establishment. The lodge itself was okay. The room was a bit pricey but also served its purpose for my night there. This is a hidden gem with a lot of interesting history. We ended up staying here because we were attending an event across the street at the Roadhouse. The rooms were nicely decorated and remodeled recently and the lodge building and bar had a nice lodge vibe. The bartender Patrick was super nice and we had a nice time talking with him over drinks. The lady that was there in the morning was super friendly as well and offered us coffee. We booked our room with Airbnb and it was easy to find and directions were clear. Being the hottest day of the year it was nice they provided a fan in our room too since there is no AC. My husband and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary at Rio Nido Lodge. We wanted to travel, somewhere nearby, without having to fly. Hence, we booked a 1-night reservation at the lodge. It was like camping, having trees around but having the comfort of sleeping on a bed. Basically, "glamping." For dinner, we went to the restaurant/bar in the same complex. Patrick was our bartender & host. Great guy! He made us feel comfortable at the start. We ordered dinner. FOOD For dinner, my husband and I shared the crab cakes for appetizer. I had white wine while my husband had beer. Normally, he's not a beer guy but he asked Patrick to surprise him. He liked the beer. As a main course, I had the Prime Rib with mashed potatoes. My husband had a salad. We had pumpkin pie for dessert. For breakfast, I had waffles & bacon and a cup of coffee. My husband ordered the breakfast plate. Cholina, our server, showed us the Avocado toast and another dish. SERVICE We enjoyed our interaction with Patrick, that night. The next morning, we had the pleasure of chatting with Cholina. She told us how the place has a special package for weddings and gatherings. She mentioned that there's a "package deal." We got interested as our 25 year anniversary is coming up. We will definitely come back then and we'll also let everyone we know! AMBIANCE The building looks like an English cottage in the middle of a forest. At night, there were locals there. We were actually approached by a couple. The restaurant/bar reminded us of an English pub; it felt very "down-to-earth." No pretense. Patrick and the other bartender (woman) were personable. Cholina, was such a "sales person." Though she said she's not, I would hire her as one (I'm in HR at a hotel management company). Maybe she should be! OVERALL Rio Nido Lodge is so close from the SF Bay Area. We will definitely refer our friends and family to go there. As for my husband and I, we will be back in a couple of years when we celebrate our silver/25th anniversary. Maybe even just return and take our friends and family who are visiting with us. We were on our way back to Healdsburg when my wife spotted the Rio Nido lodge all decorated for Christmas. We passed by but ended up turning around. My wife went in to see if they were serving dinner as we were a little early. She was greeted by Carly who explained they were open for dinner so we decided to try it. What a great decision. Carly treated us like family from the time we sat down. She explained how her and her husband bought the lodge four years ago and how it had extensive flood damage when they did. She explained a little about the history of the area. I had just eaten a couple hours earlier so I ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp my wife ordered the petite New York steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. My salad was great and my wife loved her steak, all though there was nothing petite about it. For dessert we ordered the eggnog cheese cake it was also amazing. Carley's young daughter Elsa I believe was her name wanted to help and we said absolutely. She brought our silverware and then my salad. So nice to see her so happy to be able to help. If you are looking for a family friendly home cooked meal with large portions and a welcoming environment I would recommend the Rio Nido lodge. We drove 3 hours after work, looking forward to a peaceful retreat--only to find ourselves stuck in what felt like a nightclub instead of a hotel room. Unit 14 is right next to the lounge, and the party noise was unbearable. Music started blasting at 8 PM, shaking our entire room, and continued past midnight. We were exhausted, desperate for sleep, but the noise wouldn't stop. We reported it to management at 11 PM, and after waiting two hours, they finally responded at 1 AM, claiming the volume had been lowered. It hadn't. The music pounded through the walls until 3 AM. No sleep, no rest, just frustration. If you're hoping for a quiet, relaxing stay, DO NOT book this place. Management won't help; you'll be stuck in a sleepless nightmare. I had been looking forward to coming to checkout this spot for MONTHS since it got renovated. What a huge disappointment. The bartender/waitress was clearly intoxicated and the food was inedible. The owner has been promoting on Facebook what looked like amazing dishes with beautiful presentation and our food was just not. Dare I say false advertising. Our seared ahi came mangled and tossed on a plate, salmon filets were shredded. Soup like mush. "Espresso martini" more like a cup of whipped cream. The owners were not there, but need to know that there is so much more potential for this place!!! Staff so unprofessional, cursing at her kids, cook in the parking lot smoking while making food. I will never be back. Hope there are some major changes. On a side note, the music by Brandon Eardley was awesome and enjoyable. The fireplaces were cozy, loved the decor and ambience. Wow. Where to begin. My experience staying at this property was deeply upsetting, and I feel compelled to warn others--especially extended-stay guests, tenants, or anyone with children. The property is now operated by Theo and Cherie, and I urge you to look closely at when the positive reviews were posted. Many of them reflect the prior ownership. Since the change in management, the level of professionalism, safety, and integrity has plummeted. During my extended stay, I experienced multiple serious issues: * I was harassed over payments I later learned were not legally owed. * My WiFi was shut off as retaliation while I was staying there with my 5-year-old child--cutting off my only way to work remotely or use a phone in the area. * Door codes were not changed between guests. * The property was double-booked. * I received no notice when unknown individuals were given access to the home I was actively living in. I later discovered they were sent by Cherie with instructions on how to enter. These events made us feel unsafe in what was supposed to be our temporary home. I also witnessed conduct that suggests a pattern of operating outside the bounds of California tenant and hospitality law, including lack of formal documentation, vague rental terms, and pressure tactics. It was an exhausting, chaotic experience that cost me thousands of dollars and weeks of missed work--and I'm a single mom and a widow trying to rebuild. In my opinion, the current management prioritizes profit over people, and does not demonstrate respect for guests or their legal responsibilities. They appear to treat guests as disposable, rather than valued. My advice? Stay anywhere else. Read the negative reviews carefully--they're consistent, and they reflect the reality I experienced. If you want peace, safety, or professionalism, this isn't it. read more

I have stayed at enough places in Guerneville to know that 'rustic' is typically what you get and the real draw is the nature. Rio Nido Lodge pretty much ticked both of those boxes. Lovely setting. I do have a few gripes about the actual accommodations and amenities though. Bathroom: Big enough and clean, however, there was no glass or shower curtain and water got everywhere. I have experienced bathrooms like this in Europe, however, there was only piece of furniture in the bathroom to put your toiletries and it was basically IN the shower. A sink with actual counter space would have been nice or an additional piece of furniture to put your toiletry bags on that is out of the splash zone. Hot tub: Ok, so it gets the job done technically, however, it is a cheap inflatable tub and it comfortably fits one person. Also, no ledge or tables to set your drinks or phone or speaker on while you are in the tub. Front deck: There was this awkward spot where there was a steep dropoff right in front of our door. There was only a step at the very end of the deck, and the railing inexplicably stopped short of going to the end which left over a foot of a dropoff. Pretty sure this is not up to code and was pretty dangerous esp in the dark. They could have easily wrapped the step around to bridge that gap. Some choices were certainly made here. The "fireplace": This was basically a digital display that emitted heat. The buttons were difficult to locate and didn't work well. You would need to hit the button about seven times to turn it on or off. Our guests in the separate room could never figure out how to get the heat to actually turn on on theirs. The tv remote: Similar to the buttons on the fireplace, you needed to whisper sweet nothings into its ear to get it to change channels The lighting: The lighting was either too dim or too bright in every room. I struggled to get enough light from the chandelier in the main room to even read. In the loft area where we slept, they had these bizarre TINY shelfs right next to the bed that were fixed to the wall and this light bulbs (just bulbs no actual lamp) sticking straight up through this holes drilled in the shelves and when you turned them on, they were brighter than the sun. There was another source of light in the room but it was too dim. Also the light switch was located down the steps. Furniture: It sucked. The "couch" in the living room was actually a fold out bed, but it also never really turned into a proper or comfortable couch. Lack of counter space: End tables would be nice. Also a dresser or night stands in the loft area. Those TINY semi-circle shelves in the loft were the ONLY surface to place anything on. And we already talked about the bathroom. Wifi: Fickle and/or nonexistent All in all, I don't think I will be staying at Rio Nido Lodge again. It's too far from Guerneville to walk. It's also too expensive. We were charged almost $400 per night for our double suite which would be a great deal in the high season, but it just seemed too high for early April and given how sparse and inadequate the accommodations are. The frustrating thing is knowing how simple and cheap it would be for them to make the experience so much better. Dimmer switches on the lights are not expensive. If you are going to insist on having light bulbs fixed into the shelves with no lamp shade, fore the love of god, put a soft light in there. Some second hand furniture from some kitchy second hand store would fit in nicely and also offer additional counter space and drawers to put your clothes in (Oh, I forgot to mention, there is also no closet space). Fresh batteries in the remotes......simple things like that. read more

Cute lodge with lots of thoughtful details (like the lumberjack plaid robes in the room and food/drink tokens) in a beautiful and whimsical redwood setting. Frequent live entertainment at the Lodge and the Roadhouse next door, a pool, private hot tubs, a little gift shop / cafe...and the river is right across the street! I pretty much never write 1 star reviews, but my experience with the owners at Rio Nido Lodge was so horrendous I feel like I have to write a review here. They were completely ok with customers traveling to their lodge during a Level 5 Storm with a flood watch, evacuation warning, downed power, etc., and refused to even reschedule the reservation let alone issue a refund (which we never asked for). I cannot believe that anyone would run a business like that with zero regard for their customer's safety or satisfaction. Anyway, here's what happened: My partner and I booked a room at Rio Nido through Airbnb. The day before our reservation, the governor of CA issued a state of emergency due to the heavy storms, and Guerneville in particular was named one of the places that was most likely to flood in several news articles. The freeways were all marked with "DO NOT TRAVEL" signs, and there was up to 7 inches of rainfall in Guerneville +75mph winds in the hills. As a Bay Area resident, I had seen a lot of the flooding in the previous storm, know Guerneville is a hotspot for floods, and knew this was serious. We messaged the owners to voice our concerns and to ask if we could reschedule, and were messaged back with "it's just rain, no big deal, come on by!" I'm not a complete idiot, so we messaged them back saying we might not come. They completely ignored that message and just sent us a generic "welcome to Rio Nido! Hope you get in ok!" message. I called the numbers on the airbnb message and were finally able to reach one of the owners. We spoke on the phone, and he said he hadn't been keeping up with the news, but it sounded serious so we could probably reschedule but he'd have to check with his wife. We waited hours and hours, never heard back. Finally after calling and texting a few times, we heard back and they said maaaybe they could reschedule and asked us to pick a date. We suggested a date, and they said that they couldn't reschedule then because that day was twice as expensive. We offered to only book one day instead of two given that the day was twice as expensive, and they said no. We then offered several other reschedule dates, and then they just kept ignoring us. It would be one thing if they had just responded right away with "we are VERY sorry but we cannot refund you because of our policy" and tried to do SOMETHING to help remedy this situation, but they just downplayed our concerns, ENCOURAGED us to come anyway even due to the many warnings, and then ignored us. Of course the power in Guerneville ended up going out that night, the Russian River flooded the following week (albeit less than what was forecasted), and we never got our money back, a reschedule, or even an apology from the owners. I will never book this place again and I really hope that the owners reconsider their shady business practices/start caring about the safety of their customers! read more

This review is only for the RESTAURANT. Ate dinner there recently with a couple of friends. They want you to order at the register at the bar but did agree to take our order at our table in the large back room. They got one of the orders wrong but hey, that happens, and they corrected it. I had the meatloaf dinner which was on special and it was a very tasty and hearty meal. We asked for our bill and they said to come to the register at the bar to settle up. I used credit card. The screen where you enter the tip STARTS at 25% and goes up from there!!! They ask if you want a receipt and I know a lot of people just say no but I said yes. Upon examination I noticed they charged 3% for use of credit card. It's our understanding that places are supposed to post, like on the menu, that they do that, but that was not the case here so it was a surprise. Nobody likes finding surprises on their check. Although the menus had a few differences in items and some of the food and drink items we ordered were not in stock, what we did end up eating and drinking we absolutely LOVED. We requested a side salad and even though it was not a regular item they put together one of the most fantastic ceaser salads we've ever had. If I could give it 0... I would. Absolutely the worst spot I've ever been too. The waitress was trashed, dropped cans of beer on me. Spilled my sister drink all over the floor and couldn't get a single piece of the order right. Shalice was the most drunk, possibly high(not on cannabis), waitress I have ever encountered. As we were walking out, we saw the ,"kitchen." A grill and a some burners in the parking lot, the "chef" smoking cigarettes over the food, dog chained underneath the grill. Now don't get me wrong, I grew up on the river, I love some outdoor cooking. But this was horrificly bad. I also work in food service and can faithfully state almost nothing is by the book.
