I ate dinner here one night of my stay at this Hilton. The place looks fine but the service and food were terrible. I ordered a salad, then a center cut 6 oz filet and baked potato. I waited a long time for the salad, it never came and they brought the main course. I said "where's my salad?". The waiter looked confused, went away, and within a minute, brought the salad. As he took the main dish plate away, I told him I wanted a new steak prepared, as I didn't just want this sitting under a hot light. He didn't even respond to me. I ate the salad, and they must have been watching, as they brought back the main plate practically the moment I set down the salad fork. Sure enough, it had just been sitting under a hot light, as the scoop of flavored butter was all melted. Rio Ranch IS as good as it gets. I recently had a four-course meal at the ranch and it was incredible. It was perfectly balanced and tasted terrific. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere is a perfect partner for the food. Any night is a good night to have dinner at Rio, but don't miss out on the Sunday Brunch buffet! I actually really like this restaurant. I took my ex gf of 3 yrs here when she came to visit texas for the 2nd time. I thought this was such a great place cause its so "texas" its like over the top "texas" they definitely try hard to make it very texasish haha but the food was great. We started off with onion rings and both of us got the chicken fried steak They skimped on the gravy and took forever for them to get us more gravy. The gravy was a little bland and flavorless. The chicken fried steak was decently sized on top of mashed potatoes. I prefer it separately and the gravy on top of the chicken fried steak. THe breading was little flavor less but VERY CRISP which is great! The underside was a little soggy but i think thats due to being over the potatoes and gravy. The meat was tender and delicious. Wasnt incredibly chewy and wasnt terrible quality like some chicken fried steak. The wait staff was very friendly but unfortunately it was completely empty when we were there. it was an ok cfs not the best . A little expensive but the decor was exactly what i was looking for after being away from home for so long. I need to soak in texas to remember where im originally from. Nice place, good staff, the food wasn't anything I would go back for. It's delicious but really not worth going back for me. We were there with the whole family and lots of friends and relatives for the Mother's Day Brunch. It was a mother's day buffet with a very limited lunch selection, some fruits and cereals, cake, waffles, omelets and not much else. I'm honestly not sure what their regular menus are, and I only went because someone else picked the location (hey, it's Mother's Day, i'll let the mothers decide..) I love the breakfast buffet here. For $16, there are omelete and pancake/waffle stations, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, oatmeal and grits, baked goods (muffins, breads, bagels), smoked salmon, eggs Benedict, yogurt, fresh fruit, and cereals to cater to all mouths. The servers are very polite (refilling drinks, pulling out chairs for you). The only downside is that it gets REALLY busy from 11:30 and the buffet ends at 2ish? So if you go on Sunday, be prepared to wait or have a plan B because that front lobby will fill up as people wait to be seated. read more

This place was Awesome for Sunday Brunch! (I have never tried dinner here) When we first arrived the hostess was polite and got us seated fast, even though there was a short wait. the buffet was filled with fresh foods and fruits. the cooked to order foods are awesome as well. the decor is great Texas styling and its very kid friendly.. always a plus for me! My fiancee and I were craving steak and planned on going to Taste of Texas but the wait was too long. We stumbled on rio ranch while we were looking on open table. We made a reaervation thinking that it would be packed....no need. The place was fairly empty. Our waiter was really nice but service was slow. They gave out cornbread muffins and huge biscuits with honey butter, which were delicious....unfortunately that was thw highlight. For our main course we ordered 16oz ribeyes. Mine was medium and my fiancee's was medium rare. Both came back over cooked. There wasn't a lot of flavor to it either. We probably won't be back read more

If I was writing this review strickly for lunch or dinner, I would probably give it 5 stars because it would be hard to find a place where everything just worked. It might not be 5 star quality, but it's damn close and I can't do 4.5 stars. But my brunch experience? That was probably on the 1 to 1.5 range. All of the food that should have been hot was cold, the service was just so so. And yeah, I don't know what else to say. Hope this was just an off brunch. Neat place, funky atmosphere (in a good way!). Menu is pretty small but with some interesting options, including a spiralized zucchini entree that sounded very good. I had the Charbroiled Salmon salad- very good, cooked just right and a huge portion of fish! I've had dinner and breakfast here. The help was very friendly and helpful. Loved them. Dinner: Chicken with a port wine reduction and nuts (cashews?); mashed potatoes with spinach, miniature onions. Everything was very flavorful, but the chicken was extremely tough. I had trouble cutting it with a knife! Breakfast: the omelet (made to order) was excellent. All of the other protein was awful. Nice looking sausage, but rock hard and dry. The bacon was shoe leather. The fruit looked good, but I didn't have any - probably should have. NOTE: this was the buffet (other then the omelet), so I may be unduly harsh, but I've have MUCH better buffets. read more

First, let me say I have heard the Sunday brunch is wonderful...however I went for dinner. The server was WONDERFUL and the only reason some stars are given. Truly wonderful and I wish everything else matched. It just reminded me of Kitchen Nightmares when Ramsay goes in and no one is there, the food is expensive and not tastey. Hi Everybody: I travel all over the country on business and - hands down - the best meal I've ever had for the past 10 years is at the Rio Ranch in Houston, Texas! The meats (I always get a steak) are grilled over a mesquite wood fire - the flavor is to die for - to me it's one of a kind - I can't get it anywhere else! Baked potato is a baked potato - but the salad dressing are also one of a kind - the biscuits and cornbread flavors are just plain fun and the sautéed mushrooms are fabulous! And Brother John my waiter over the years has always been kind and courteous! Folks who live in Houston don't know what your missing - you need to give the place a try! I live in San Antonio - I know what I'm missing - but luckily my travels bring me to the Rio Ranch often! read more

Service was good. Food was average we came for Sunday Brunch & you would think a place known for steaks & game would have.a meat carving station & same wild game for brunch. I don't always leave 5 stars but when I do you can assure it's worth it. Came here for brunch one Sunday and was amazed. They were pretty busy so we decided to sit near the bar area and watch the game. The buffet options were all mouth watering. Waffles, wheat pancakes, grits, oatmeal, bacon, several types of potatoes, create your own omelets, cinnamon rolls, etc. It definitely was able to cater to many tastebuds. I have given two chances to this restaurant, and both were terrible. I feel that my food was frozen, instant versions of what should have been real, fresh food (i.e., mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables). Also, I am allergic to wheat, and I asked for a salad without croutons. It was brought to me with croutons, so I asked for them to remake it. They took it away and simply removed the croutons! They brought it back to me with crumbs still on the plate. Not good service at all. I will never return. read more

Came for a birthday dinner that we made reservations for. Even though they had the table ready they only had one waitress who could not handle our size party. We went early and there were only 2 other tables in the restaurant that had guests. The food was good but expensive. The service was absolutely terrible. We were at the restaurant for over 2 hours because the staff kept forgetting we were even there. They sat us in the front room separate from the main dining hall and shut the door. People's orders were wrong and we had to get up several times and find someone to help us. We asked for the manager and she wasn't helpful at all. She gave some people discounts but not everyone at the table even though we all received the same poor service. I do not recommend this place to anyone! read more

Rio Ranch is an excellent example of a true Texas steak house, with great ambiance and a western decor that really makes you feel "home on the range". The rustic wooden floors and huge limestone fireplace give the impression that you have stepped back into a simpler and less complicated time. Sunday brunch is sublime, with great custom made omelets, delicious waffles, eggs Benedict, and more fresh fruit than you can imagine. There is also fare on the brunch buffet for the transplanted northerners who like their bagel and lox fix. Dollar for dollar, I think you can't find a better choice for a lazy Sunday meal. Last week my husband and I decide to see if the dinner at Rio Ranch was as good, and it didn't disappoint. The pepper fillet was cooked to perfection, and was so juicy and flavorful (you can cut it with a fork!), that I barely had room for the delicious wood grilled asparagus that accompanied this winner. My husband had the Mahi-Mahi with lump crab meat and shrimp skewer, and I thought he would lick the plate, he can't stop raving about it. On both visits, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and we were seated right away. Our server each time was very professional, but not in the "stuffed shirt" sense of the word. The wait staff seems to understand that the pace of the meal should be determined by the guest and not be rushed in order to quickly turn the table. We received attentive service, and great menu recommendations. We never once had to ask for anything, since the server seemed to read our minds and anticipate our needs before we could voice them. I understand the head chef has been there for many years, and I can see why. He has a great menu, and seems to put love into the meals he prepares. By all means, take a date, take the family, or simply go by yourself to experience a great Texas dining delight! read more

This review is for their Sunday brunch buffet. In short, it was amazing! They even had eggs benedict at their buffet. I mean, the eggs were way overcooked, but I still appreciate that they were there. The french toast was amazing. Plenty of toppings you can help yourself to. Breakfast tacos. Bacon. I normally don't care about the pricing on certain menu items at restaurants, but when it's just an average restaurant; I tend to pay attention a bit more. C'mon! Why is this place charging so much for just average cuisine. I've been here for both dinner and brunch ($57 for 2 not including tip) as well as ordering out. I'm paying as much, if not...much MORE, than some of the more popular and BETTER places around town in comparison. I started coming here because the BBQ wings were really good, but then Rio Ranch raised their pricing for 10 wings from $13 to $15?!?! Plus, I've also noticed that the wings were not as great as they used to be, but we're hoping things do improve soon. I'm not impressed at all with this establishment. I'm convinced that the HILTON for which the restaurant is attached to is greatly benefiting from all the over charges. Mediocrity at its best... And for the prices they charge I expected way more. Coming up on the establishment I liked the rustic country look and feel. The waitstaff were very nice and attentive. The rolls and cornbread were both very good as well as the honey butter they served along with it. We ordered the calamari and seafood salsa for appetizers, both of which were very good. The calamari came with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce that was a very pleasant surprise. Our salads were very good as well but when out entrees came out, our fine Texan culinary voyage crash landed. I was severely disappointed. My ribeye steak was decent. Not bad but I've had much better steaks for over $20. My wife's salmon was decent but again, nothing memorable. Same for my aunt's shrimp and sausage skewer. My uncle's steak was about the only thing that was slightly above average. My mom's pork chop was bone dry. The glaze was very nice but couldn't nearly compensate for the desert wasteland of a pork chop. Bottom line is that the food is about average, but you will pay far above average prices making this a terrible value proposition. I'd pay a little more and recommend Taste of Texas (though I haven't been there in a long time). Or some good Tex-Mex at Cantina Laredo down the street for about the same price, or even Outback. Based on a recommendation from Houstonia magazine, we thought we'd finally give this place a try. I tend to avoid restaurants that don't have many cars in their parking lot. But, Houstonia said this place was pretty good. So....off we went for breakfast. The place itself is okay. A little dated. Has a fireplace in the middle. Lots of wood. Kind of cozy. The food is (mostly) not okay. The good: Omelettes made to order (provided you don't want bacon or sausage in yours-see below). and the waffle. The fruit selection was nice, too. The bad: The bacon had a bad smell to it. So bad I wouldn't eat it. Husband said it was "not good." The sausage was gross. The biscuits were just okay. The gravy - watered down Alfredo sauce?
