We arrived thirty minutes before closing and were told by the older lady at the stand they were all sold out. She did not even take our order, just flatly said they are sold out. Of everything??? 1st night in Kauai. Lady working in riptides sees us standing there for like 5 minutes and then when we go to order she says they are closed. The last night before leaving Kauai I bring my daughter over to give it one more chance. There was a line about 6 people ahead of us and not knowing the hours I asked if they were still serving to see if I should wait in line. Lady was super rude. Said I was a baby. I asked what I said wrong and she continued her rant. My 16 year old looked at me and said let's just go dad. Just sad. Poor customer service to say the least. read more

A must stop just across the street from great beach and surfing spot halfway between Spouting Horn and Popui State Beach. We had a terrific natural (no corn syrup) mango and coconut shave ice. There are some benches next to the beach to enjoy your shave ice and watch the surfers. read more

Between the four of us we tried the coconut, cherry, strawberry, passion fruit, and guava flavors. What's unique about riptides' shaved ice is there are pieces of real fruit in the syrup. Delicious hand-shaved ice with lots of flavor options. They also have a huge keiki size which was great for my 6 and 8 year olds to get their own flavor choices. At $4, it was a great deal and yummy! Wish they were open for sunset! They're only open 11-5 unless they feel like staying open longer. We were told the wait would be 20 minutes, 45 minutes later we still didn't have our shaved ice, while the lady at the counter was making every order with utmost care, she was also spending a lot of time chitchatting with folks and that slowed her down. She also ended up serving people who ordered after us before us and that was inconsiderate of her. She was gracious enough to give us a refund though. Maybe next time we will go there when there is no one else ordering or if there is a faster employee working. read more
