Pop up cafe from Lasita! No more delay and yeah I haven't even had the chance to try Lasita itself. Accidentally bumped into Kape on my IG feed and know it's time to try. It's only available on weekends and only the outdoor patio's open for seats so yeah space's pretty limited and might be tad hot during sunny days. The system's order first then find seats, and since menu was concise enough I'd say the line moved pretty quick. Also really appreciate their attentive servers ;) We got their Longanisa breakfast sandwich, serving sausage patty with egg and American cheese. The simple combo turned out palatable, lifted up by their aioli sauce and housemade bun! As for the sweets, all of them looked great but this first trial went to the Ube roll as recommended by the attendant, as well as the Salted Egg Ensaymada. The first served fluffy chiffon cake made flavorful by the Ube mascarpone. The second was great in its own way and if you're unfamiliar with Ensaymada, typically the default was served with butter sugar and cheese while this version was iconic as it came with salted egg ganache. Their filipino-themed coffees were worth-trying. I got the Langka-ppucino, served with coconut condensed milk and jackfruit puree, making it had that refreshing fruity hint. My husband got the Black Mamba, their house version of Ube Latte, which was so good IMO as the ube flavor really stood out and their coffee itself was overall suiting my palate.

Lasita currently has a cafe pop up on the weekends where they are serving up some unique Filipino-inspired drinks and pastries. To get here, there is street parking all around the area and then you can walk over to the spot. For the cafe pop up, they only have outdoor seating available. For their menu, they have some solid options for drinks and food. Wifey and I ended up choosing the Tito Arnie for our drink and the Longanisa Pan. We really enjoyed everything we tried and the vibes of the cafe!

Stopped by on a weekend morning hoping for a good coffee or matcha, but the drinks were hit or miss for me. I tried the matcha with vanilla Pandan syrup and didn't enjoy it at all, but the staff were kind enough to let me switch. I ended up with the Tito Arnie, a Filipino style Arnold Palmer with lychee and calamansi, which was fine but nothing memorable. My partner liked the black mamba with espresso and Ube milk. The real standout was the browned butter mamon. Absolutely delicious I could probably devour a few of these. Unfortunately the drinks didn't wow me, but I'd come back for the baked goods and other food items.

We went to chinatown to buy some bamboo for the house and saw a couple holding a coffee cup coming out of Far East Plaza. I stopped and thought "there's a coffee shop in there now?" Low and behold, Lasita has opened Kape Lasita! Good vibes like always - loved the energy that the host brought. Ordered the Tito Arnie for the hubs and got the Langka-puccino for myself. Both amazing drinks - lychee in Tito Arnie and langka with the espresso in the coffee drink. Also ordered the eggplant sandwich but need more eggplant for sure. Must try if you are in the area!

Had an amazing collaboration with Lasita's pop up coffee shop and BlacklistLA. Wife, friends, and I were able to try a handful of items. Pastries Food for the Gods Cookie - usually a walnut brownie bar but a cookie version (wife's favorite) Ube Roll - Soft sponge ube cake which was great as it was not too sweet. Butter Mamon - (many of the runners choice) Food - only thing I would recommend for the pans is to use pan de sal. I think a soft Pan de sal will bring this a LONG way. Longanisa Pan - Longanisa to me tasted a little more like Corn Beef Pan - Crispy Corn Beef texture. Drinks Langka-ppucino - My favorite of the drinks. I never thought about adding jackfruit flavoring to my coffee. Only place that I know that attempted this was Malaya Coffee in Silverlake with their Matcha. Tito Arnie - If you're a calamari lover, this one is for you! The entire staff was very friendly and quick to serve us which would make anyone feel at home just like how a Filipino household would do! Located in the Far East Plaza. Parking - Street parking or neighboring paid parking lots.

I went here for their cafe service, which is outdoor only order at the counter. The have so many fun coffee drinks and some breakfast food and pastries. It's first come first serve for seating and the staff is very friendly and the service is quick!

My partner and I came for coffee and pastries and wanted to like this more than we did. I ordered the black mamba and my partner ordered a matcha latte with a vanilla pandan syrup. We got both drinks with oat milk. The black mamba (espresso with ube milk) was fine at first, but had a bit of a sour taste at the end. Not sure if they use an espresso that is prone to going acidic as it cools or if the oat milk was a bit off, but it led to the drink ending on a bit of a low note. My partner did not enjoy his matcha but the staff was really great and swapped the drink for a Tito Arnie which is basically a Filipino inspired Arnold Palmer. The Tito Arnie was good, but nothing I would really crave. The standout here was the brown butter mamon which was excellent. While the drinks were a bit of a miss, I would come back to try their pan de sal sandwiches and would come back to try their regular dinner menu.

Kudos for the creativity but not sure if the combos works. Came for a quick coffee break on Saturday and got the Black Mamba which was coffee with ube milk. It was the closest thing that felt like a straight up espresso with a bit of pizazz. Like with other reviews, it had a sour aftertaste that was not a great taste. Besides that, it felt like the drink took longer to get ready than it should. There were maybe 4 drinks ahead of me with my count of what came out and it probably took 15 mins from when I ordered. I totally get it takes time but 15 feels excessive. Will be back for Lasita, not for to kape though...

Longanisa sandwich was the winner! I think they used Vigan longanisa or something similar. Found it a bit salty so would ask to skip the cheese next time. Salty Batirol Mocha was really good. Wished the langkapuccino had more jackfruit flavor. Outdoor seating only. They were busy and took a long time to take our order, but everything came out quickly after that!

Great tea, coffee and deserts:pastries and baked goods that converts at night to chicken and wine! Nice al fresco seating inside the far east plaza right across from Amboy. Super friendly service.

amazingness. everything about this place was so fire. vibes, food, service- 10/10. the corned beef sando had a really nice bite to it and was pretty hefty for its size. the salted egg yolk ensaymada was perfectly lathered in its very well balanced cream. we also ended up trying their special fried kampachi escabeche which was also such a hit. the garlic rice underneath the delightfully crispy fish MMMMM. drinks were also unique and refreshing. i liked the black mamba the best but it's on the sweeter side. would love to come back to try their other menu items :D

I still dream about this sago coconut pudding.

Theeeeeeee yummiest and cutest Filipino-inspired coffee drinks and pastries at Kape, a weekend brunch pop-up from 10am to 2pm (Restaurant opens at 530pm) Kape is a whole vibe. Everyone there working was friendly and stylish. In our visit, one of the owners was serving, being super-friendly and sociable. It feels warm and inviting, a place you would want to sit with a friend and chat. The seating is limited though, even though there are a good amount of seats, tables and benches. It is located outside of the restaurant, outdoors in the plaza so it's a perfect place with LA's beautiful weather. Salty Batirol Mocha: espresso, milk, peanut tsokolaté, salty whip, candied peanut. ( I had this! Perfect blend of salty and sweet (and not too sweet, may I add.) Black Mamba: espresso, ube milk : I didn't get to try this but my niece's friend says it was bold, has a good amount of ube flavor and sweet but not syrupy like candy. Calamansi Espresso Tonic: espresso, calamansi syrup, tonic (This is so light and refreshing and the calamansi is a great take and alternative to orange. Very crisp, light and flavorful) Matcha Tonic : Niece said it was good: refreshing. SAGO: coconut pandan tapioca pudding, seasonal fruit, coconut whip (vegan) (this one blew my mind! strawberry and coconut with sago pearls. Myfriend had to order it twice had to order it twice!) Matcha Latte: Well-made matcha latte but not too sweet. Corned beef pandesal sandwich: CORNED BEEF egg, mojo aioli, american cheese, house pan de leche (This was also my order. I am definitely coming back for that one). They fried the corned beef into crispy patties. Absolutely delicious. There is also a passion fruit/chocolate donut and a berry donut. Parking available whether it is metered street or paid public parking lots. Also, be mindful that if you want to order to go, it is still a little bit of a wait, as each order looks like it is made with care and not rushed. It is worth the wait though.

Such a lovely pop up by Lasita. Stopped by to try their taho which was a special that weekend, and it was amazing! Not a lot of restaurants serve fresh taho so it was such a treat. Also tried their salted egg ensaymada, and salty baltirol mocha lattes, all very very good. Can't wait to come back and try their sandos! Such a vibe with awesome food.

The chicken stays crispy for a long time and reheats nicely as leftovers. Everything we've ordered is really good and crave-worthy. We got the lucky catsu, curry catsu, crispy shrimp, spam masubi, catsu masubi, orange chicken, crispy chicken. Top two favorites are lucky and curry catsu. Small things I'd personally wish to change is that the onion is too strong in the macaroni salad. Wish it wasn't in there period. And the rice is a little on the dryer side and it sticks to the container- so when you scrape up the last bits of rice, you could be eating the paper from the container. I like that they use compostable containers though!! But yeah the rice is on the harder side especially as leftovers. But whatever, their main items are bomb and makes me not care about anything else. Service is quick! Note: it is not a sit down restaurant. You order (ahead) and park on the street and call them to let them know you're outside. They'll bring the food out. Reception isn't great outside fyi. I've been here 3 times and never last long enough to get a photo before digging in. There are two other vegan restaurants right next to it, same concept - order and pick up. Great for different options if one is craving Mexican from Cena or hot dogs from All franks.

There is no printed menu, so you'll just have to ask what it is that you're eating and why the main course -steak- was served first. We were asked to keep the utensils through out the course as they do not change your silverware for every course. Cringe. I had such a high expectation with the food prior to dinner. It felt flat - Everything. The only thing that we like was the corn bread. The steak was tough - some us got super rare and some got overly done tough. Some flavor combination just didn't pair well. Something with a fish dish but sour like hell. Another dish was blue and it just did not look a dish coming out of a fine dining restaurant. Funny the people that were there was talking about Somni, Providence, Melisse.... It just did not even come close. It's like going to a friend's house who's practicing to be a fine dining chef. Pics of the food is posted in this review. None of them was impressive. It just did not go well together. When it came to the 7th course - it was a shaved ice. The Asian assitant cook brought them over and said it's Mandarin ice. So we asked, can you give us a little bit more description... his response was so rude that he said "it's ice with mandarin orange flavor". Oh ok - now you say mandarin oranges. But his condescending attitude is not appreciated. The night is ending and the Chef has not once come to the table to say Hi or introduced himself. People started to leave and he decided to speak to some remaining guests. Then he gets stuck with that particular guest for a long time until everyone is leaving. We probably just had like a Hi and Hello thank you for the food. He seems nice though. Then we all left. We clearly didn't even care anymore at that point. Bad food and bad experience. No parking. Good luck finding a parking on the streets on fountain and Vermont with all the homeless around. It's a hype. It's mysterious because it's really not listed as a restaurant. Not for everyone.

During my visit to DS Night Market, Daeng's had two items: sweet potato balls and mango + sticky rice. Peering into the tent, I could see that they were making the sweet potato balls on site, forming the dough into small balls and frying it fresh in batches. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I suspected they would be sweet since they were being sold by a dessert stand. Kanom Kai Nok Krata is a popular street food snack in Thailand. It's made with mashed sweet potatoes and tapioca flour (and other ingredients). The golden balls are about the size of a large tater tot. They're served piping hot. One order ($10) contained 20 balls. The ball is quite firm and very crunchy on the exterior, but the inside is soft and chewy like mochi. They weren't greasy, but 20 balls is too large of an order. I would have preferred 10 balls and a few dipping sauces, but the balls were very good because you could taste the sweet potato but the textures had so much contrast. The sweet potato balls are worth trying but best for sharing.
