This place was amazing. I got the pho with beef and a sugarcane juice. The pho was in a huge bowl and the broth was so flavorful. Plenty of noodles and beef to go along with it + all the sides. I would go back again when I'm around. Very filling and comforting bowl of soup!!! The sugarcane juice was so so good. There's a hint of orange in it for added flavor, and it works perfectly. It's a bit expensive at 7 dollars, but it hit the spot. Honestly, I'm not hesitant to spend 7-10 dollars on a cup of coffee, so maybe it wasn't truly that expensive. The restaurant itself is fairly unassuming and may not look as fancy and in order as some more new wave places, but the flavors here can't easily be replicated. Easily some of the better pho I've had in LA. Granted, i was really hungry, so that could have factored into the score. Places like this are what i love so much about Chinatown. The atmosphere inside is incredibly welcoming and there was a steady flow of customers coming for the Vietnamese coffee. I'm sad i didn't get to explore this part of the city during its prime, but im happy places like Gigo's are still around to enjoy and appreciate. Came in this afternoon and ordered the #8 brisket pho. The broth was really good--rich and flavorful--and I enjoyed both the noodles and the meat. Definitely hits the spot if you're craving pho. Service had a couple hiccups though. It took a while to get our drinks, and we actually got our food before them. When the drinks finally came out, they brought the wrong one--we ordered a honeydew boba but got taro instead. We had to point it out and get it corrected. Overall, great food but service could be a bit more on point. read more

My friends and i were craving some viet food in Chinatown, so decided to check it out. I got the pho tai bo vien and my partner got the bun thit nuong. Service was quick and concise. The pho was average- a nice amount of meat, with all the fixings (although I was missing some culantro). The broth was a bit lacking in my opinion, with the noodles clumping up. The main taste was sweet and not very beefy, but I was able to doctor it up with some hoisin/sriracha/fish sauce/lemon. Sugarcane didn't taste very sweet..I would skip but the BBH(8/10)is so good here! The smell reminded me of home. It's not very spicy but very flavorful and had me wanting more. It's served traditionally with huyet and pork trotter. The pork trotter was a bit tough but a good portion size. There were two slices of cha lua and two slices of beef. I got charbroiled pork & bean curd skin wrap with broken rice ($13.50) and charbroiled meatballs, shrimp roll & veggie rolls ($8.00). We got takeout and shared the rolls, which were packed full with ingredients and flavors. It's an enjoyable appetizer that's worth the price. The main dish had a lot of pork and rice. I felt like they should've cut the pork a little more so that it would've been easier to eat. The bean curd skin wrap had a nice texture to it. I was interested in broken rice but didn't notice too much of a difference between it and non-broken rice. While it definitely filled my stomach, I felt like I would've enjoyed a vermicelli dish more for its refreshing taste. Note that the restaurant charges a service fee for using a debit or credit card. The restaurant wasn't crowded at the time. The owner was friendly and even said that I ordered more than enough to eat. A quaint family establishment. I typically order for delivery. this was the first time I came into the restaurant. We received a warm welcome from the auntie in the front. She seated us right away. This place is exactly what comes to mind when I think of a mom and pop shop and the restaurants that I grew up eating in. Though the aesthetics may not be on par with your fancy modernized restaurants, you will always be guaranteed a delicious meal served and made with love, reflecting of culture. I really like their egg rolls because they use rice paper and it has that extra crispy texture. There was a good ratio of everything in my vermicelli. My friend ordered egg rolls and chicken pho. I tasted a bit of the broth and it's a bit different from what I'm used to but soo good. There was a certain depth to it that I don't know how to describe, and I definitely want to try that next time. I didn't know this but there is also free parking behind! My sister and I decided to drop by this cafe & deli because the boba cafe nearby was closed. We got the #4 Vietnamese Coffee with Milk and #8 Thai Iced Tea. The Vietnamese Coffee with Milk tasted okay. It just tasted like regular Vietnamese Coffee, I've had better Vietnamese Coffees with more flavor. The Thai Iced Tea was also just regular tasting Thai Iced Tea. It was a bit watery tasting but no other problems. The employees were okay. They were just doing their jobs, not super kind or super mean. For a restaurant that was basically empty, I felt like they took a while, but I didn't mind. The restaurant is just a basic restaurant. It wasn't super clean or super dirty. There was plenty of seating because there weren't a ton of people eating there. I don't really get where the cafe part of the name is coming from because it's more like a typical restaurant. There's no special cafe drinks or a separate cafe section. I did see a baby cockroach on the counter I chose to sit at. It disgusted me so I left quickly. From the previous reviews and my experience, I don't think I'll come here again. I would mark this restaurant as a comfort food spot. It's not flashy and I've never had to wait for a seat. It's very clear that all the staff are involved with the business, the serving staff and the kitchen help each other out and have clear communication. I ordered a Pho with rare steak as well as spring rolls with pork meatball and a fried shrimp egg roll inside. My rolls came out first and the egg roll was still hot like it was just fried. My pho soup was on the sweeter side, but it came with a very generous serving of meat. The side garnishes that came with my pho were plentiful, which is great because the mint and limes were perfectly in season. Because my husband and I were with our little girl dog, we decided to make a to go order and then eat our food around the corner and sit at one of the tables outside. After we looked over the menu, we ended up purchasing: Banh Xeo, $13 prior to tax- My husband decided to get this Vietnamese crepe. He was rather disappointed that it was soggy and not crispy. It did come with a small side of bean sprouts and vegetables. I didn't have any but it didn't look as good as other places that we have ordered banh xeo before. #18 Nem Nuong Cuon voi Cha Ram Tom, $7.25 prior to tax- I opted for spring rolls and they were good. They came in a set of 3, with a side of hot sauce and a side of fish sauce. The meat was cooked perfectly and the rolls were wrapped tight (never a good thing when rolls just fall apart after your first bite). Sugar Cane Juice- My husband ordered this and didn't like it. It tasted very chemically to him. I am not a fan of sugar cane juice so I didn't have any. --------------------------- (Total= $29.61 after tax) Wait time for our food was under 30 minutes. We came on a Saturday afternoon, around 2:40 pm with a few people ahead of us in line to order. The employee who took our order (the owner I presume) was friendly. There is a unisex restroom (for paying customers) down the hall from the register. It was not that clean but it was available for use while we waited for our food. My husband had high hopes for this place because this restaurant Yelp page is rated so high (4 stars at the time of this review and when we looked it up on Yelp). Price is decent compared to other Vietnamese restaurants but the food wasn't good. The food and sauce were all pretty bland and didn't have the Vietnamese umami flavors Nem Nuong Cuon voi Cha Ram Tom/Summer Roll ($7.75): This comes with 3 fat rolls. The first bite was good but after that, it was just okay. The sauce is very interesting but the flavor doesn't really compliment the summer roll. It surprisingly tastes better with the vermicelli noodles. Their nem nuong needs to be cut thinner as the pieces are too chunky. It's also a bit hard and not as juicy as we would have liked it to be. You get what you pay for. Came here to cure a hangover and ended up feeling worse. The food here was very artificial tasting, quality was definitely out of the picture. Service was okay. We ordered the Pho Đặc Biệt and Bun Riêu. Bún riêu was atrocious, it was so sweet we were confused. The meat was very old you can tell by looking at the color and the fried tofu was also so old the skin peeled off.... We told the lady to take it back but she said we ordered it so we have to pay, thats bad customer service. If you're looking for great pho in China town Pho 87 is the way to go. This is my updated review of Gigo's cafe and Deli. It is still my favorite place to dine in or take out in the Chinatown/DTLA area. The restaurant is family owned, ran by husband and wife, grandma and uncle cooking in kitchen. Our favorite dishes here: - charbroiled meatball and veggie rolls, $7.50 for 3. Grilled meat balls, with fresh veggies, mint, rolled in rice paper, dipped in their special sauce. There is no need to make a trip to SGV or Westminster. - egg rolls $9.00 for 4 rolls. It is authentic. They used rice papers for wrapper, filled with cellophane noodles, carrots, wooden ear mushroom, ground meat, and shrimp. These eggrolls are served with lettuce (to wrap), mints, and fish sauce. - brisket phở $12.50: good portion, hearty tasty broth, tender brisket. This can be eaten as is or adding hoisin sauce, siracha sauce, mints, sprouts, etc. - beef and pork hoc noodle (bún bò Huế), $13.50: central style noodle with beef, pork hoc, slide of vietnamese sausages (chả lụa), congealed pork blood. It is a savory dish, pretty good flavor. However, they could make it a bit more spicy. At the restaurant, they do have sauté lemon chili paste to add to the broth, which did not come with take-out order. They do have Vietnamese sandwiches now. Since everything is more expensive, especially in LA, the restaurant could not afford extra helpers. So, their service is not the fastest but they are nice and friendly. Their bun bo hue doesn't make me disappointed. Best bun bo hue I've tried in LA so far. It's not wow delicious for me, it's pretty good. Best here for me means at least I know what I'm eating, satisfying my bbh craving a little bit and I can finish it. It's not like some places serve bbh that I don't know how they can even sell it (the taste and smell are literally nothing like bbh). The bbh broth is fragrant, tastes good but it's a bit bland for my personal taste, I gotta add a lot of fish sauce. The noodle is good, not soggy. Their pork blood cubes are good tho. Not dried or powdery. The meat is very tender since it's well cooked. They pack it well. Food is always hot when they're arrived( I've just only done delivery order) I also usually order the number 18 charbroiled roll. It's tasty. This place has solid pho. I learned the hard news that Pho Broadway in Chinatown was no longer open. So on a rainy day I walked into this place. I ordered the beef combo pho. The broth was really good not to salty just the right amount. Also it was served piping hot which believe it not all pho spots manage to do. I really liked the beef pho and the portion while not as large as some other spots was definitely enough. I also ordered the summer rolls. This was a change up from the spring rolls I usually order when I go to a new pho restaurant. They were really good. I would definitely recommend this placeZ the ambience is no frills but the service is good and so is the food. Everything we've tried, has not disappointed us, ever. Regina and Michael are thoughtful and wonderful hosts, are kind and take great care in all phases of our dining, or takeout, experience. Early in Aug, Gigo's was closed for vacation. So we decided to try Pho 87 (also on Broadway). The entry way area was filled with boxes of trash, very unappealing. We were hesitant to go in, and looked for a Health Dept grade. It was very overpriced. The portions, flavors, did not come anywhere close, to be as fresh and tasty as GIGO'S. Never again. read more

Broth is a little bit heavier too so not as light and homemade tasting like Blossom... but still good. The shrimp spring rolls were great... My biggest complaint is just the minimal service which is common amongst these types of restaurants. They don't provide receipts and they charge 3% for using credit or debit card (aka being cheap). Interior is janky... that literally is only way I can describe it. Bathroom didn't even have a lock.
