The thing that makes their pizza different from any other pizza I've had (and I've had A LOT) is their sourdough crust! It's sooo fluffy/airy and it has this great chewiness to it. You can taste that the ingredients are the high quality. We got the Margherita pizza and the vegetarian pizza. Both were really good. For our personal preference, we would have liked a little more tomato sauce on the Margherita, but you really can't beat the affordable price they charge. This place is family run out of their home, and are considering doing a brick and mortar depending on the demand. This family-run sourdough pizza business operates out of their home kitchen and is one of my favorite hidden pizza spots in Torrance! What makes their pizza special is the dough! They use a 3-day fermented sourdough starter with over 75% hydration and no commercial yeast, which makes the crust super airy, fluffy, light, and easier to digest without feeling heavy afterward. Even though it's sourdough, the flavor is really mild and balanced rather than overly tangy. They have a new menu item called the Risen Puff which is just the sourdough dough baked to perfection and paired with a creamy ricotta with honey dip. The texture is soo airy and fluffy and delicious and a must get if you just want the soft, fluffy dough. For their pizzas they have a variety of toppings and flavors and I love every single one of them! The BBQ Chicken pizza has a great combination of barbecue sauce, grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, and pickled red onions giv the perfect sweet, tangy, and smoky flavor balance. I love their simple margherita pizza since I love the taste of basil with the mozzarella and tomato sauce. I also really enjoyed the Pesto Chicken because the basil pesto flavor paired so well with the grilled chicken and mozzarella, making it super savory and flavorful. The Hot Honey pizza had the perfect sweet and spicy combo, and if you love pineapple on pizza, definitely try the Hawaiian because the sweet pineapple and savory ham worked so well together. So Risen is not my preferred type of slice. My preferred type of slice costs a couple bucks in NYC and requires 2-3 napkins to dab off the oil that would take 2-3 years off your life expectancy if you left it on. (Just so you know, I leave it on.) I'm a regular at Slice & Pint, Prime, Prince, Bonello's, etc. My YouTube feed is full of Dave Portnoy pizza reviews. Up until recently I would've never picked the Risen type of slice if given the choice. Light, artisanal, balanced flavors, fresh toppings, etc. etc. That's the kind of stuff my wife loves. No, give me the heavy, way too big, burn-the-roof-of-your-mouth stuff. But maybe it's getting old or kids or wisdom (probably not that last one) but I'm finding there's a limit to how many of those slices I can enjoy in one sitting. And the price I pay afterward seems to get bigger and bigger. Which all had me feeling pretty sorry for myself for a while because I figured that meant no more pizza, or at least no more tasty pizza. Then I tried Risen. And then we had it again, and then a couple more times. Because it still hits the spot (especially the hot honey) but doesn't leave me feeling like someone dropped a brick in my stomach. I can eat as much of it as I want (which is a lot) without getting nervous about my next doctor visit. I still prefer the greasy, cheese dripping off slice.
