The Reuben Report My…read morefirst venture West of the Mississippi for a Reuben tasting. Sam's No. 3 is a colorful Denver location and an interesting cross between classic East Coast Greek diner and Sports Bar. The super long menu ranges from extensive breakfast choices (pages!) to burgers and sandwiches, tacos and burritos and steaks, chops and fish. Don't skip the Mexi-Rado Grub menu page's Pork Barbacoa Tacos -- which were enough food to split and a very tasty item. My second visit brought me to my main event: the Reuben. Served on marble rye grilled with the sandwich, the corned beef was thick and the Swiss resided on both sides of the sandwich. Sauerkraut was extremely light and didn't lend to the taste at all. That was a disappointment. The meat was thicker sliced but not the thickest. The stack was generous. The quality was so-so as during my visit it was a bit fatty, making for a chewy experience. The Thousand Island dressing was lightly applied and didn't account for much. Overall, this sandwich was a bit disappointing. Not terrible mind you, just that there was room for improvement. The pickle could have strolled right out of Manhattan. It was great. The side substitute of tomato, feta and cucumber was tasty and a nice finish. My cocktail was a rye old fashioned made to perfection by Elise. I had a second since walking from here. A solid 3.5 sandwich. Ambience 4.0 Service 4.5. An overall 4.0 experience - saved by the tacos. I would return --if only to try out the breakfast menu. The Reuben Report. We never met a Reuben we didn't like ......almost.

I stopped by for lunch today…read more First, it has been so hot out and this place has excellent air conditioning! This is a big deal for me. I think it is a huge plus that a restaurant must be comfortable..I drink coffee after each meal and with this weather some places make my routine impossible. They offered a decent lunch deal of a burger and beer. I eill be back when not on my lunch hour. I had the tinga tacos, PERFECT! Ingas is generous with the protein and you can tell it is made from scratch, including the green salsa. Service was attentive and frankly delightful. I will be back!

The staff has typically recognized us and welcomed us in. But tonight was a mess. We ordered food, and no one had the courtesy to say to us, we have a large party outside, it might be an hour before you get your food. That would have put the ball in our court and legitimately made it our decision. The manager, owner/operator, a gentleman with a shaved head told me it was our fault for not being aware of the situation around us. This all while he busied himself doing shots behind the bar. With all due respect, he did comp our tab, (which was not our goal) and we asked a bartender to ring up $1 so we could tip the staff, which we did. I fear, based on our experience, and after 9 years of loyal patronage, this is likely not our neighborhood pub any longer. Bummer.

Strazza [strah-zuh, strazuh, sträzuh]…read more Noun 1. A concatenation of street and plaza "that connects pedestrians and cars in a safe and flexible environment". (Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle, 9/13) 2. A creative developer's term for a surface parking lot ringed with restaurants and drinking establishments which happen to connect said developer's two hotels. Aren't new, made up words illuminating? I came across the completely made up word "strazza" in the 'Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle' when reading about all the new restaurants that have been opening up in Glendale's City Set development. The word strazza sounds vaguely upscale. It's a word which may remind you of a stroll through the Piazza del Duomo while you are devouring biscotti, one after the other. Or perhaps it is a sensual word which, when spoken aloud by the likes of Sophia Loren, will unfurl your flag. Strazza. Where was I? Oh yeah, City Set. Yeah, none of the above dreamy notions will disrupt your visit to City Set. City Set is a very clever way of maximizing the real estate around the parking lot between the Hilton Garden Inn and the Residence Inn by Marriott. The line-up of restaurants and drinking establishments which surround the strazza is indeed impressive and a coup for Glendale: Jax Fish House, Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria, World or Beer, Udi's Cafe Pizza and Bar, and Big Smoke Burger are already bringing in the crowds. And still to open are The Kitchen Next Door and a Native Foods Café. That's a lot of variety which covers not only different tastes but different budgets as well. Smart, very smart. All the restaurants and their patios are adjacent to one other and overlook the parking lot so it kind of feels like you are dining on a public square of sorts, a 21st century commercial vision of an insipid street scene. I guess it's like a food court too, except instead of tables in the middle, one can park a car directly in front of their establishment of choice. If you can't find a parking spot directly on the surface lot, then there is underground parking too which I personally find more convenient than competing for a spot on the strazza. There is a shared valet service available too, but I haven't had the need for it. City Set is A-OK and I'm sure they are going to succeed because they seem to have the right tenant mix, the convenience of parking, are surrounded by the right demographics, and are adjacent to the busiest street in all of Colorado. For me, I'd rather have the real thing, as long as there is valet parking of course. Strazza.

Almost everything you need, really. During a recent visit, someone told me that pretty soon this place will be "the next Vegas". Certainly a bit of a stretch, but one day you will be able to stroll with your adult beverage around City Set and over to the Riverwalk that is scheduled to be completed in 2016, I believe. Pretty cool! So why not five stars? Parking. There just aren't enough spaces to accommodate both hotel guests and daily visitors. While complementary valet parking is available (currently the only way to use the parking garage), I'm not going to valet the car just to run in and grab a sandwich or a burger to go. I think even bike racks are limited but perhaps this will be addressed in the future. In any event, City Set is a big boost for Glendale and a fun place to hang out. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this development.

Our group of six was seated without any trouble, and the staff kept things friendly and straightforward throughout the meal. The burgers came out hot, fresh, and seriously juicy. There's also a strong drink selection with local craft beer, cocktails, shakes, and soft drinks. Good portions, well-made burgers, and a laid-back atmosphere make this place an easy recommendation.

We told the waitress about our previous experience regarding my boyfriend's burger being super raw and she suggested that he get his burger cut in half, which worked! It was cooked well. I got the tuna melt and it was pretty standard, but delicious regardless. The star of the show, however, had to be the appetizers. We got the wings of two flavors that the waitress recommended. I don't remember the names, but one of them had a mustard taste to it and I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend and I are obsessed with the pretzels. They are soft, warm, and go perfect with the dip so well. Cherry Cricket this time was a great experience and we would come back for the pretzels alone.

Hannah was my bartender, and I got perfect service throughout my visit. Efficient, personable, and timely. The place had great energy, with background music that was fun without being too much. The restaurant has three TV's (one big screen in the corner), a great bar area, spacious dining room, and a fantastic wrap-around outdoor area. It is dog friendly, and they even had a big event coming up...just for dogs. They get their beers from Briar Common Brewery on the other side of town, and the Hoptomist IPA was one of the better beers I have had in quite a while. I chose the Royale with Cheese route, and couldn't have been happier with what came out of the kitchen. I spoke with the manager, Jeff, and you could sense that the quality of employees there was high across the board. He was very nice to the weird guy taking all kind of pics around the place. I didn't have room for most of them after the burger, but the fries were good too, and I had garlic aioli to dip them in. Tasty. I dropped this burger in at #10 for me all-time. It might move up after I go back and get the same thing once again. My visit was flawless, I highly recommend this place to folks, and see you there...
