We visited Il Melograno for the second time with a friend, and once again it did not disappoint. This place has a cozy yet elegant atmosphere that feels perfect for a relaxed dinner. For starters we ordered a few dishes to share. Burrata with seasoned cherry tomatoes, arugula, and fresh oregano was absolutely delicious. The burrata was creamy and rich, and the sweet cherry tomatoes paired beautifully with the fresh herbs. Parmigiana Siciliana -- eggplant parmigiana with tomato, basil, Parmigiano, and mozzarella, served with toasted bread. It was comforting, flavorful, and perfectly baked. We also had the carrot soup with goat cheese, which was smooth, light, and nicely balance. For the main dishes we went with: Fresh Cortecce al Pesto di Cavolo - was very aromatic with a slightly nutty flavor from the pumpkin seeds, and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Italian Arborio Risotto ai Funghi -- creamy, earthy, and full of mushroom flavor. For dessert we finished with an affogato, which was simple but perfect. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Service was friendly and attentive as always. Definitely one of those Italian spots we're happy to return to. read more

I wanted to love this place because the staff is super kind and accommodating however the octopus has got to be the worst I've had in New York. Extremely chewy and had a slimy film on the outside. I order octopus whenever it's in the menu. It's my absolute favorite but it totally missed the mark here. The Caesar dressing had too much anchovies in it, just too overpowering. Our friend was staying in midtown for work and didn't have a ton of time so we decided to meet at Il Melograno. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement - if I need to recommend a restaurant to friends visiting from out of town or those going to see a broadway show this will now be my recommendation. For NYC, where rents are high and price can be out of control, Il Melograno is fairly priced. The portions were so large that none of us were able to finish our meals and often times this happens at places where the quality of the meal is poor, but not here. Our apps were great (we got the bruschette and fava bean puree) and my fiancé got the special which was my favorite. His friend got the Pappardelle which was a close 2nd. While I liked my pasta least (Cortecce w/kale pesto), it was still good. It fell prey to my pet peeve at American Italian restaurants where there's an excessive amount of cheese present. My favorite Italian restaurant (Misi) is my gold standard, and its reliance on fresh ingredients and letting the components shine is how I felt about every other dish at Il Melograno besides mine. Overall Il Melograno feels like there's a Nonna in the back cooking authentic, comfort Italian in the best possible way. While not a large restaurant, seating is comfortable and getting a reservation isn't super challenging. I'm sure we'll be back. read more

Il Melograno in Hell's Kitchen was incredible--honestly one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had in the city. We started with the Polpette della Nonna Rosa (veal meatballs in grandma's tomato sauce with basil and ricotta salata) and they were so yummy. The sauce was super cozy and the bread they served with it was perfect for dipping. For our main, we both got the Ravioli di Vitello al Burro e Salvia--homemade veal ravioli in brown butter with fresh sage and toasted breadcrumbs. It was rich, buttery, and just melted in your mouth. I was obsessed and would come back to order this again. The vibe was super intimate and perfect for a date night--not loud or too crowded--and the prices were really fair for NYC. We were able to get a reservation pretty easily on a Tuesday night, which was a nice surprise considering how many great reviews this place has. Just a fantastic experience here last night for dinner. Cozy dining room with enough space to not feel cramped, with just enough ambiance to carry on a conversation. The food was outstanding, especially the Ravioli di Vitello (in a savory brown butter and sage sauce, yum!), and the wine list provided everything we needed at very reasonable prices. Il Melograno is my partner's and my favorite restaurant to visit while in Manhattan! We randomly chose this restaurant for our first date back in 2023, we've been going almost every year since then. Overall, the entire experience is one of the best. Starting with the ambiance, the dining room is lit very nicely with warm, dim, white lights. The noise level is pretty moderately quiet, sounds of people having a good time without it being too loud and disruptive. The service is lovely! They're very personable and attentive to their customers. I dropped a utensil and before I could even pick it up there was a new one being presented to me! As for the food itself, as someone who's lived in Italy for a few months, it's very close to the real thing! Every menu item is listed in Italian, adding to the authenticity. Their Hugo Spritz is very good, better than most I've had in the US. For appetizers, I highly recommend the Burrata or Bruschette. Both a safe choice, great every time. Our favorite dish they offer is the Ravioli di Vitello al Burro e Salva. (Veal Ravioli with butter and sage) it quite literally melts in your mouth! We have not explored many of their desserts yet, but the Cannoli is very tasty! Overall, Ristorante Il Melograno is an amazing dining experience. Its location is very convenient to most theaters if you're going to see a show, especially at Lincoln Center and Radio city. But the Pappardelle Al Ragout Di Salsiccia was way too salty, and the Ravioli Di Vitello Al Burro E Salvia tasted off, like it hadn't been seasoned properly. Service was inconsistent but mostly friendly when it did appear. Meanwhile, the decor was cozy, candlelight, date night vibes. NYC is saturated with Italian restaurants. Very good food in a busy city. We loved it and would come back, which is big since there are so many great restaurants in NYC. It felt like you were in a small town restaurant where everyone knows your name. The bruschetta was delicious. The Italian dishes that we had were delicious and I snuck peaks at other tables and will try those next. This was my first time here and what a cute little gem of a place. The beau recommended it and he wasn't wrong. Went after work for dinner and while fairly small it was busy for the early hour. We chatted with our neighbors who were off to see a show so it does draw a pre theater crowd. It's dim and cozy and we had the front corner table which I loved. The Caesar salad was fresh and above average. We shared pastas (see pics) and enjoyed them both very much. Spring for the tiramisu which was a little disappointing but you can't win them all. Perfect! Perfect perfect! I have no complaints about this restaurant whatsoever. My wife and I came here to have a nice dinner before watching a concert at terminal 5. Which is about a 5-minute walk from this restaurant. I knew it was an Italian restaurant that made their own pasta, so of course I had to have pasta on my cheat day. I ordered the beef carpaccio for starters and it was fantastic. It came with arugula and shaved Parmesan on top. My wife got the octopus which was on some type of mashed potatoes. She loved it. I was hesitant to get ravioli because I never order it but I was so happy I did when it arrived. The flavor was fantastic. It had vegetables and a beautiful sauce that it sat in. My wife also loved her muscle dish and I finished off her cavatelli cuz she couldn't finish it. The waiter was attentive and very nice. We also got a bottle of wine for $52 and it was perfect. The manager came over to make sure the food was great and of course it was. He also was very happy to see that we both finished our plates with not one bite left. Take it from this Chicago foodie, Il Melograno is an outstanding restaurant! My husband and I ate there last night and it was the best meal of our four day NYC visit (matched by gracious service and a lovely atmosphere). We started with the chickpea and spinach soup, followed by the fava bean puree with greens, for our entrees we each had the swordfish, and finally, the tiramisu. Each course was superb! The service was great, they gave me a pitcher of water to keep at the table which I like because I'm a thirsty guy, and they gave me the perfect amount of cheese. I wish I remembered to take pictures earlier on (maybe I did and will find them later) but this place was great. It quietly sits on 10th Avenue in the 50s which is out of the way for most but I ave recebtly frequented this area and have found a lot if hidden gems. First, I have only been here once but when we walked in we were treated as family. No eye rolls for being slow and indecisive. They let us live our lives and didn't shove us out. Second, I was very impressed with the food. I had a fettuccine pasta dish with shrimp and scallions and it was really great. The sauce was perfect and not too heavy. We also got the roasted rosemary potatoes which is rarely a mistake but I think I single handely ate the entire dish as well. Then at the end of the night I had to have the tiramisu (pictured) which came in a cute little jar which I just wanted to take home (I didn't take it home...) I was very pleased with the service and staff and food and would definitely come back here. In fact, I have talked about it with my parents and they plan to bring them next time they visit. read more

Il Melograno is a small but delicious Sicilian restaurant. It truly felt that I was in Italy, enjoying a dish in a quaint little restaurant. It was a really hot day today, so I decided to order a salad, Insalata Siciliana, which ended up being extremely refreshing. The pairing of the arugula, fennel, orange and olives was incredible. It was a super filling salad yet felt light and summer-y. I also ordered a side of shrimp as my protein, and although they were simply cooked and looked plain, they are some of the best shrimp I've had at a restaurant. They were nice and soft, which is unusual because many restaurants tend to over-cook their shrimp. I tried the Pappardelle Al Ragout di Salsiccia that my friend ordered, and that was also extremely tasty. The ragout was very smooth and the flavors were well-balanced. I really enjoyed how soft the pasta was, making it melt in my mouth. This restaurant has so many other traditional, Sicilian dishes that are probably just as tasty as the two I tried today. What a great find! We were craving comforting Italian and, with so many options in Manhattan, didn't know where to land, but Il Melograno was perfect. It's cozy (only seats about 20 inside) but separated between tables so we felt safe. The service was fantastic: accommodating a late addition to our party AND helping us navigate or create vegan fare. And the pasta was just excellent. We loved the veal ravioli in sage butter the best, but the pesto and veggie was great too. The carpaccio was a generous portion, served exactly right with just oil, cheese, and arugula. Went for dinner with the SO on a Friday night. Their outdoor seating is well constructed and covered but the unseasonably cold weather decided we sit inside. The decor is very cute with lots of well polished wood seating and little fake plants and votives everywhere. Our server was very attentive and helpful with menu recommendations. We started with the beef carpaccio which was delicious, topped with arugula and Parmesan. We also started with some summer cocktails (their whole drink menu is very reasonably priced). For mains we had lasagna and pollo ala Milanese. The lasagna was amazing, the beef and bechamel combo was like "mom food" in the best way. We finished the night with a delightfully creamy and coffee-forward tiramisu dessert. Overall this place has good drinks, good food, cute atmosphere and good service. Everything was amazing but the most memorable were the grilled octopus appetizer, pappardelle, and the chocolate soufflé, which came with a ridiculously amazing ice cream. Spaghetti al pomodoro was also good. Friend got the cannoli, which he said was meh. The first rose option (Lunae Mea Rosa) for $12/glass was amazing, some of the best rose I have ever had. The restaurant is very small, so if you plan to go, make a reservation, which is very simple through open table. The service was alright, it took forever for someone to come over and take our drink order, but when they did, we all got a glass of wine and it everyone loved their glass. The food was also, alright. The only thing worth anything was the mozzarella and prosciutto, it was super fresh. I got the pork chop. It was very different. It had an apricot jam on it. Was decent but the portion was very small. Someone else got the veal ravioli. Light and tasty, but the portion was again, very small. Another meal was the grilled chicken and vegetables and it very simply was, grilled chicken and vegetables. Portion was larger but very bland with flavor. The spaghetti was fresh but very, very, hot and the sauce was mediocre at best. The last meal we got was the artichoke cakes. They were definitely unique. But they were fried so all it tasted like was, fried. The desserts were the best part. We got the the chocolate soufflé and the cannolis. The soufflé was definitely heated in the microwave too long and the gelato was definitely just vanilla ice cream, didn't have the creamy consistency of gelato. The cannoli's were fresh and filled right then and there because the Shell was crunchy, which is the best part, so I appreciated that. Overall, with the amount of incredible Italian places around, you can skip this one. read more
