We made reservations here before seeing a Broadway show, and it ended up being the perfect way to start the evening. The restaurant has a warm, cozy feel that makes you want to slow down and enjoy your meal. Even though it's so close to the theaters, it doesn't feel rushed or touristy. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We had tickets for a show, but the timing worked out perfectly and we never felt like we were being hurried along. Everything we ordered was delicious. The grilled octopus was incredibly tender with a nice char, the seafood salad was fresh and packed with flavor, and the homemade pasta with clams was light, fresh, and cooked perfectly. I also had a glass of red wine that paired really well with the meal. I'm always happy when I find a restaurant I'd actually go back to instead of just checking it off my list, and this is definitely one of those places. Delicious, delicate, yet dainty pasta, all homemade! At the suggestion of my mother, who ate here with her husband only recently, I had to try this restaurant out. It helps that the location is sublime, both geographically and logistically (only a short walk from the 42nd Street stations in Midtown, specifically Bryant Park and Times Square). I am not going to lie, the food is expensive. That is to be expected for a Midtown restaurant, literally right in the Theater District. This restaurant feels like something right out of a Broadway theater, with the high ceilings and low-hanging chandeliers. The ambiance feels like an upscale Italian restaurant, and the food reflects that ambiance. Sure, a four slice Quattro Formaggi pizza pie is skimpy, but it is outstanding in taste. All four cheeses come in beautifully, and the dough is full of flavor, though it is quite soft and chewy. Since I did not want to risk gastrointestinal contortion, I ate this at my leisure. This benefited me later when my second dish, the Salmon Ravioli, arrived. The Salmon Ravioli is as perfect a ravioli dish without the humiliation that many Italian restaurants tend to do. There are plenty on the plate to eat from, I would say 12 at least (if I cannot count them, that is a good thing). The pink sauce it is served on is light and luxurious. Adding goat cheese is the right call because it gives the dish extra balance to the already flavorful salmon. A bread basket is included with your meal. The bread is good. Do not pass on the bread. Do not fill up on it either. I walked out pleased with the overall experience, even though I may have gained a few pounds, while my wallet most certainly lost some. read more

My husband and I visited on Friday evening. We chose to sit up on the balcony, which offered a great view of the restaurant and a little more privacy than the booths down below. The bread was delicious and served with olive oil. We started with the burrata cheese and calamari. The burrata cheese is served with beets and tasted fresh, and the calamari and shrimp were served with a scrumptious sauce. We made reservations at Osteria Al Doge prior to going to the theater for a show. We were seated immediately upon arrival and were given the option of dining downstairs or upstairs. We chose upstairs because it's less noisy and you can hear each other. Some reviews have the noise level as a negative, but upstairs was fine. Our server was Jaime and he was incredible!! We had the pasta special with braised short ribs and the Branzino Al Forno and both were so fresh and delicious. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the braised ribs had great flavor. The Branzino was perfectly prepared and also very flavorful. Portions are generous and Jaime made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal and still have ample time to get to the theater. Prices were reasonable and if you are looking for a great dining spot prior to the theater you can't go wrong with Osteria Al Doge. Wow I had such an amazing experience . My aunt and I stopped at this little italian restaurant and had such a great time. The servers were very nice . My aunt ordered the ravioli de ricotta . It was so good. It kind of had a pesto spinach taste to it. I was wishing I ordered that but she shared it with me. Because sharing is caring lol. I love ravioli and the taste of it just melted in my mouth . I decided to keep it light and ordered the bruschetta with fresh tomato's . It was very tasty . Great location! Great service! Greeted by host and sat me down right away and then when my daughter arrived he directed her right to me. Waiter was awesome. He asked what time our show was to make sure we were served and out but we had plenty of time. He answered all our questions. From the outside it looks small but when you go in it is surprisingly large and packs in a lot of tables. The menu was diverse - Italian food. I've eaten here several times. Years ago, it was my secret weapon to watch the ball drop on New Year's eve. If one snagged a late reservation here, it was possible to get to the corner to watch the ball drop. Nowadays, the police have installed extra barricades, so one can't get all the way to Times Square, but one can WATCH the PEOPLE who can see the ball drop. Not QUITE the same, but almost. The restaurant has a very old school classic Italian ambiance. Last time I was there I had the mixed grilled fish (Grigliata Mista di Pesche) and my friend had the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe. We also had a side order of mushrooms, which wasn't really necessary given the quantity of food we had. We were both very happy with our meal. We split a lava cake for dessert. Yum. read more

Well, this restaurant been around for 36 years and I finally got an opportunity to try it. I pass it many times why I didn't go. I'm not sure but I'm glad I went this time. We had the bread basket complementary delicious with olives and breadsticks and olive oil. We had the special salad fry artichokes which was really good little pricey, but good. I had the salmon came with spinach and potatoes which I enjoyed and we also had one of the pasta, Lamb Bolognese which was very good we had the apple upside down cake for a birthday celebration. We came at 9:45pm on a Wednesday night after a show. There were maybe 3 other tables eating dinner, we had the whole place to ourselves. I was worried that after a long shift, the waitstaff would be grouchy and rush us along, not even close. They were welcoming and very attentive. The photos don't do our dinners justice. I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli. The butter sage sauce was wonderful. Not too salty and not oily, just perfectly balanced. The raviolis were tender and filled with delicious spinach filling. You get a basket of bread with you meal which I used to sop up any butter sauce leftover. My date had the Paccheri (wide ziti) with seafood. It had a really amazing tomato-based sauce. I mean this sauce was so good I was wishing it was a stand alone soup dish! Again the bread on the table came in handy. Our waiter, Jamie, didn't miss a beat filling glasses and getting drink orders. We had the lemon tart which wasn't my fave even though it had a cool crème brûlée topping. I won't hold it against them. I'd like to try the tiramisu or the flourless chocolate lava cake next time. Osteria al Doge is one of my favorite NYC restaurants. It has two floors, very nice decor, exceptional service, and.....of course..... a-m-a-z-i-n-g food. Our two entrees were incredible.....Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci (homemade ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta cheese, in a butter sage sauce) was so soft, flavorful, and the remaining butter sage sauce was elegantly sponged up with the complimentary buttery bread. The Pollo al Limone (marinated chicken breast with sautéed zucchini and parsley roasted potatoes in a lemon sauce) came with two well seasoned pieces of chicken and I enjoyed how they cut up the zucchini into thin strips, which made it easier to eat. For dessert, we shared the Tortino al Cioccolato (gluten free chocolate cake with moist melting heart and Tahitian vanilla gelato). This was one of the best desserts I've ever had. The cake was M.O.I.S.T., the edges had the ideal crunchiness, and the gelato complemented each bite to complete enjoyment. Please, TRY IT! The Double Espresso, with a side of milk, was the perfect cap to this memorable meal. I cannot recommend Osteria al Doge enough. Come in, in order to be treated like royalty and enjoy a fine meal.
