The place was a little busy the whole time we were there, so I highly recommend making a reservation. Amazing service and delicious food! The food was fresh and came out fast. Portions are generous, so you definitely won't leave hungry. My favorite dish was White Clam Sauce with gluten free penne, which was delicious, also gluten free, dairy free and soy free. Others had something else I had no interest in to remember the name. Their menu has many options to offer, including gluten free, soy free, and dairy free options. Our colleague recommended and treated us to an evening here and it did not disappoint. From the table focaccia, to the burrata, bolognese, risotto and tiramisu we were all delighted! We ordered a Cesar salad to share to start. They brought it out plated in two portions - pathetic portions for $22. A few forkfuls each. They should include butter with the bread basket. For mains, my husband had a veal ossobuco special - he enjoyed it but it was $72. I had the AGNOLOTTI PIEMONTESI pasta. Came out lukewarm and was just average. We split an $18 piece of cheesecake for dessert - good but $18?? We had 5:15 pm reservation and had our entrees by 550 pm. They really rush things along. I've been dreaming about the veal agnolotti for twenty-four hours. Beautiful place, more romantic (and roomy) than its exterior might suggest, especially when they dim the lights. And, as its name suggests, is THE place for wine lovers. I was also impressed with the staffing in both quantity and quality. There was no waiting for anything. This was a celebration night for my partner and I, and I had carefully read through the reviews and menus of a lot of other Italian restaurants in the area before settling on MdV. I wanted to feel like we'd had an extra special experience and we definitely got that. My only small critique is that I felt like the apple tart didn't live up to the flavor of the other dishes, minus the vanilla ice cream on top. The tart itself was a bit bland and watery. Found this restaurant via Google Maps believe it or not. I was looking for a nice price fix lunch prior to seeing a show at Lincoln Center. When we walked in I fell in love with the ambiance. Though it was middle of the day, I could tell at night that it would feel warm and cozy. Very intimate. The wait service was impeccable, always someone there filling your water, bringing breadsticks, letting you know what the many specials of the day were. We opted for the prix fixe lunch and OMG, was it amazing and so much food that we walked out of there with stomach aches. We started with the apps- Stuffed mozzerella and the eggplant parm. I was biased towards the eggplant parm and thought the sauce was amazing. For our main course, we got the gnocchi and the margarhita pizza. If you like cheese, you'll love the gnocchi. I wanted to lick my plate it was so good. The pizza was nice but the sauce and cheese made the pizza a bit runny.. Very tasty but to me the highlight was the gnocchi. For dessert we got both the flourless chocolate cake and the fresh berries with passion fruit. My friend put the cake in front of me knowing what a chocoholic I am but I gotta say.. Horrible experience here tonight. We have been big fans of this restaurant for 10+ years. Always a great experience from both a food and service perspective. Tonight was our first dinner back after the reopening. The entire character of the restaurant has changed. I'm not sure if it is due to new ownership or other reasons but we were very dissatisfied. I really wanted to like this restaurant since the interior was beautiful and the location was wonderful, but it was really underwhelming. While the menu is extensive and definitely appeals to a large varied crowd, I just didn't feel like anything was particularly memorable. Also, it is definitely a date night restaurant since every other table besides our table of 4, were couples. We tried a few of the specials as recommended by other reviewers, but even they weren't very exciting. We tried the risotto special, eggplant parmesans chicken special in truffle sauce and the branzino. The risotto was fine -- it was roasted to a nice al dente texture with pesto sauce and shrimp that just did not fresh. The eggplant parmesan had a very bitter tomato sauce that just tasted a bit too canned for me. The chicken sauce was thick and unappetizing, luckily the branzino was pretty tasty. I'd also pass on dessert. We tried the torta ricotta and maybe it just wasn't what I thought it would be, but the texture was just too strange to me, like a flan consistency. What an absolute delight! Our server Samie was great and extremely professional. The sommelier recommended a wonderful bottle of Timorasso and the food was lights out fantastic. The true star of the show was the support staff. Always present but never in the way, filling water here, whisking away a plate there, crumbing, marking the table...whatever needed to be done. All five of us had different entrees and four of the five were tens and the fifth, veal and cheese tortaloni was a 8.5. We started with the calamari and fried zucchini straws. Both A+. We ate here for our last lunch before leaving NYC back to Houston, TX. My parents and I all ordered the Bolognese, but mine was a full order and their's was one order split into two. This meal I ate was very good, moist, well-made and had all the basics of an authentic bolognese. The pasta was very fresh and a solid choice in terms of shape for the sauce imo. However, it still needed a dose of either salt, basil, butter or something extra to be top notch. Overall I was pleased, but I needed some more zing in the meat gravy. The service was great, friendly and efficient from our server. I would probably try the lasagna next time I am in this city and almost ordered it this time. My friends and I went here after skating in Central Park. It was on my friend's radar since it offered gluten-free pasta. The truffle gnocchi was some of the best I've ever had. Gnocchi was super light and soft. Truffle flavors were well infused throughout and a handful of truffle slices adorned the top of the dish. Price point was excellent for a dish like this at $32.50. My friends were extremely satisfied with their dishes too. They got the gluten-free pene in white clam sauce and orecchiette with broccoli rabe & Italian sausage. Atmosphere was upscale and sleek. My husband and I have walked by so many times, and finally stopped by for a special occasion. Authentic Italian - they apparently fly in pizza ingredients from Italy! - but a bit steeper prices. We had the truffle gnocchi (melts in your mouth) and fusilli bolognese (so warm and hearty). They also give you a variety bread basket (focaccia, sourdough, breadsticks and marinated lentils in rosemary, olive oil). Whilst we enjoyed our meals, we probably can't include it in our usual rotation due to prices. But recommend for a special occasion / pre show or theatre meal. Went for Restaurant Week Lunch with a cousin who was visiting for a conference in Times Square. Good place to take business people or visitors - good location near Columbus Circle, clean, and chic. Clean bathrooms. We went at 2pm, so it was very private indoor dining. (We were the only people there.) Hadn't done indoor dining since pre-pandemic. They also have outdoor tables. I think because it's behind Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center, it's off the beaten path from the more touristy blocks. Also they have discreet curtains, so you can't look in and may not be obvious from the sidewalk. Restaurant Week Menu was $29 for App + Entree + Dessert. We had between the 4 of us (separately Prix Fixe) Calamari, Minestrone, Mozzarella - topped with some antipasto. There was a lentil spread for the bread. Entrees: Sea Bream (fish) & Chicken. Dessert: Tiramisu - was one of the best and freshest in New York, which is saying a lot. It's New York. The food was good, but maybe on the bland side for spicy-lovers or on the no-sauce side. I rate this place a 4.5/5. We had artichoke salad split in two (the portion size is plenty to split and they split it for us)! It was so different and light and delicious! The stuffed chicken lined with prosciutto was amazing!! The broccoli pasta complimented it well. I would have chosen a more cheesy pasta (less healthy) but the server recommended the broccoli pasta to try something different and I do not regret trying it. Tiramisu tastes homemade and fluffy and delicious. Service was great. We had an older man who was very attentive and seemed proud of his service and food. Great bartenders! Delicious wines. A bit elevated sound level. Cozy yummy classic Italian fare. I wouldn't recommend the rabbit though--they only serve the legs braised. Like where's the rest of the rabbit? How about offering up the seared saddle (loin) or even better the liver. It was decent flavor but if you are going to say "Rabbit" on the menu--offer up the entire animal. Or just plain say "Braised Rabbit Legs" and you would avoid comments like these. The veal was tender and moist while maintaining a crispy golden crust. Now, Ibmust say that the all time winner was the spaghetti Al Nero con vongole (homemade squid ink pasta with clams), Masseria's version of this pasta a la vongole is the angelic version of all. Came here spontaneously with another couple bc it was a restaurant theyd been wanting to try. Knowing nothing aside from having good google reviews, i was pleasantly surprised. We were seated right away on a Sunday night, luckily without a reservation. Ordered calamari as appetizer and it was enough for four of to share and it was breaded and fried on the outside but juicy on the inside. It also came with shrimp. We ordered two pastas, the squid ink clam spaghetti and gnocchi with truffle. Both were great for me, the gnocchi was unanimously agreed to be better. We also ordered a pizza with salad and both were good complements to the pasta. Pasta dishes were a bit heavier in flavor and the salad with balsamic and pizza with artichoke and olives gave nice balance to the meal. Service was generally good. We had some issues with the table crumb cleaning bc they would only wipe half the table and ignore the other half for whatever reason. We finished the meal with a lemon sponge cake and ricotta cheesecake. Not disappointed at all. The inside of the restaurant is very nice and quiet enough that you can hear the person you're with but loud enough so that you don't hear the other ppl in the restaurant. I got the calamari which was grilled and a new appetizer for me since whenever I usually order calamari at an italian place, it's always fried. The calamari was a bit chewy and lacked flavor. For my entree, I got this fish that I want to say was bass but can't remember. That was pretty decent and the portion size was super filling, The tiramisu was also okay. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but, based upon what I ate I find it hard to understand the 4-5 star reviews. Yesterday, when my restaurant of destination didn't pan out, I walked for a while looking for a nice sit-down restaurant to enjoy a meal. Thus, I stumbled upon Masseria. Prior to yesterday I hadn't even realized it was there. It is a nice, clean place with tables well spaced and a nice bar. However, on passing by the kitchen, I'm not sure it looked that clean. When I arrived around 3:00 PM, there were only two tables seated and no one at the bar. I sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly. I had 2 glasses of Harken California Chardonnay, which was good and well priced for NYC. The entree was what made me decide not to return to this restaurant. I ordered the Petto D'Antra, which was several slices of duck breast along with a bunch of green beans and small potatoes. This dish was $46.50 and very underwhelming. The duck was only semi-chewable and served with a bland, uninteresting sauce. The beans were okay, and the potatoes were actually more interesting than the duck. I was sorely disappointed because, for that price, you would expect something more special. This place is way overpriced for what you get. My bill was $91 just for wine and an entree. The meat was cooked to the right temperature but the crispy skin is usually the highlight and what people want. Had the Penne alla Masseria -- good flavors and presentation, but pretty heavy on the fat/salt in my opinion. Service was great, but maybe a little too attentive. Occasionally we were actively watched as we were eating, which isn't a problem but can be off-putting to some. Also had a weird blip with the OpenTable reservation. Of course I had double espresso with a double shot of Sambuca. My fiancé had a broccoli and sausage pizza so it's broccoli Rob pizza and she said it was very very good. We shared mussels and fried zucchini, I ordered a whole branzino (see photo), and finished with tiramisu. I also added a cucumber mule, since I love traditional Italian cocktails. Everything was excellent. The appetizers were delicious, the branzino was nicely seasoned with olives and capers, and the tiramisu was delectable - so much better than at a famous place in the east village that will remain unnamed. Two others in my party ordered branzino as well. They were very happy with their portions, but the whole fish was truly enormous. I usually finish other people's meals, but on this day I didn't even finish mine. (Not until the next day.) I wouldn't go here to save money. Dined here before a Philharmonic event at Rose Hall. We made an Opentable Reservation and were seated promptly. Kudos to the restaurant for checking vaccinations and ALL the staff were wearing masks throughout our meal. The restaurant also does exceptionally well during the Board of Health Inspections so healthwise, they get 5 stars. Now onto the experience. The decor of this restaurant is outstanding. The noise level is amazingly quiet and the tables are spaced far apart. Decor wise, it's wonderful. This restaurant has a ton of staff but the experience unfortunately feels mechanical and rushed. We ordered the house salad and fried zucchini as appetizers and the boneless chicken in red wine and duck as entrees and apple tart and one cappucino and one coffee to accompany the dessert. The house salad was good and the zucchini were excellent. The duck was excellent. The chicken was ok. Both the duck and chicken were accompanied by lukewarm mashed potatoes and cool "zucchini browns" or perhaps "zucchini au gratin" that should have been hotter. Coffee and cappucino were "meh" but the apple tart was large and worth the $14.00. I was annoyed by the service however. The staff hovered over the tables and the split second that the dish was finished the staff arrived to remove the plates. Our waitress presented the check w/o ever asking if we wanted anything else. Sambuca might have been nice as an after dinner drink in a place like this but it was clear that the waitress' goal was to turn over the tables as soon as possible to maximize her gratuities. So, overall, really nice decor, upscale dishes that really should be more carefully constructed, but I don't know what to say of the service which can best be described as "professionally greedy" read more
