We just had an excellent experience at the vet! Dr. Thongkam was very patient and informative. She took the time to explain all of our options, considering cost, potential side effects, and overall causes. Their mission is to educate, and they certainly did with thorough explanations and even instructional videos on how to administer medication. We left with tons of pamphlets explaining the diagnoses and possible environmental factors that could affect our dogs negatively. The vet techs Jackie and Amber are also very friendly animal lovers. Tomorrow they'll be hosting a free Santa photo op for pets, with dog food donations for the humane society suggested. We left with two very cute Christmas bandanas. Great vet office! read more

Very poor communication and the technician was very rude. We left without receiving any services. I would not recommend.

After a routine dental cleaning and some teeth pulling, one follow up visit 2 days after visit. My concerns were ignored (vomiting was the only she addressed), my dogs third eye was already showing when I picked her up, I didn't know that was a thing to be honest. I was given meds to treat nausea. By 3rd day her third eye was completely showing, she was in pain. ER visit, we finally got antibiotics! Ct scan showed no bone fragments and finally antibiotics kicked in. My dog has many teeth pulled always given meds for infection. One reason we are not returning to them, but the most concerning one was the office managers sneaky way, of going behind my back requesting my dogs er visit papers, after I told her we would not be returning. This place literally had me convinced that we would have to put our pit bull down. She came in with a bump on her head that was diagnosed as a "brain bleed requiring surgery". They quoted us about $4k to treat her, and said that if we couldn't treat her we would have the option to surrender her. They also have us the option to euthanize her. A little backstory on this pitty.... I am a disabled veteran with severe PTSD that was diagnosed at the VA here in Tucson. I got this dog as a service animal. She has watched both of my kids grow up, and is part of my family at this point. I took her literally down the road to get a second opinion, and the vet that saw her said that she just had a bump from playing too hard with our other dog. A FUCKING BUMP. Also said "I don't know who diagnosed this issue, but if it was a brain bleed she would definitely be dead by now". I told this place about this experience over email, and asked them to refund my money for ALMOST KILLING MY DOG for no reason. They said "sure. That shouldn't be a problem" and were all apologetic. It's been 3 months since they told me that, and I have yet to be refunded the thousand plus dollars I spent here. Fuck this place, fuck the staff, and fuck the owner. read more

What a great place! I took my Pibble (Pitbull) there today and he was treated like royalty. Everyone that helped us from the front desk, to the nurse, to the Dr were amazing. I had a lot of questions and issues with my dog and they were all answered. I didn't realize by the end of the appointment that 45 minutes had elapsed because I was never rushed out the door (as I have been in other places). Also, options were suggested to me to help improve my dogs situation but I never felt like anything was being shoved down my throat. Overall we had a very paw-sitive experience today and I would definitely recommend this place to others. read more

Even though they were busy they were able to make a quick appointment for the same day. The doctor and staff really love what they do and it shows by the way they treat the customers and their furry patients. I highly recommend this place!! I have visited this vet and seen a few different doctors for my dog who has severe allergies that affect her skin. Every time I was there I felt like I was having unnecessary treatments pushed on us that were only temporary fixes and they were pushing things we weren't even there to be seen for like heart worm checks, etc. I felt like they were just in it for the money they could take from us. At our last visit we FINALLY saw a doctor who was wonderful and who prescribed a medication that actually worked long term for my dog. This medication was $160 for a 45 day supply. That is EXPENSIVE but you know what, I paid it because I care about my dog. Long term medication meant that I wouldn't have to go back every 3-6 months for steroids and exams to treat her aggressive allergies. So to no surprise when it came time to refill her prescription they refused and required an unnecessary "well exam" so they could look at her and say oh she looks great but we need to now check her for this and that.. then yet again take some more of our money. My dog reacted extremely well to the medication and I wish these people were more in it for that simple fact. If you want a team of vets that are going to work for your animal and not for their pockets this is NOT the place to go. The only reason I gave them so many shots is because of the "convenience" in the location because I live in Rita. Will NOT be visiting them again. read more

I called and asked how much they charge for a rabies vaccine. she told me and said dogs need a shot once a year for rabies!!!! She repeated it over and over again with no misunderstanding!! I can't believe I haven't written a review for these guys yet. My boyfriend has two dogs and a cat who all get checked out by Dr. Krauss and staff. His cat had to have teeth removed and one dog recently was diagnosed with cancer and went through surgery. Through everything, all the staff here have been amazing with the animals, making sure to make them as comfortable as possible and checking in with us periodically to see how they're doing. They also are great with community outreach and are the place to go if you find a stray to check for a microchip. They'll take a picture and put it in their office as well as post on their Facebook page to try and find the owners. The only reason I'm not giving them 5-stars is that they can be rather expensive. After going through two surgeries with our pets, I'd suggest pet owners look into a pet insurance company to off-set any future costs. That being said, Rita Pet Hospital is very upfront with costs, and also offer several options to help make it more affordable if it's an issue. They also make a point not to pressure you into any decision making and I've never experienced the guilt some vets lay on to get you to agree to more expensive treatments. It's a very pleasant experience as far as vet visits go. To offset some of the price, we generally go to a shot clinic to get their annual vaccinations and save the trip to the vet for check-ups. read more

The absolute worst vet experience I have ever had. The vet was extremely abrasive and cold towards me and my dog. One of the vet techs ran my dog into the so wall hard (she was having an eye issues) and she showed her no comfort of any kind. The only thing this office showed any kind of interest in was money. The vet didn't even treat her eye instead she wanted to tell me about all the test I need to have ran for another issue. The fees that this office charges is outrageous and the way they treated my dog was beyond horrible. I have fostered many dogs and have been to many vet offices all over Tucson and have never dealt with a vet that showed such a lack of respect or empathy towards a dog. We are new to Tucson and we adopted a senior dog, a week after our move not knowing all the details of her health and behaviors. After a diet change she had some serious potty problems and we called for an appointment and she was seen within a day. Two days later an abscess burst and thankfully they got us in the same day! The staff is genuinely caring and concerned, it is easy to see their genuine love of animals. They were friendly and welcoming and took great care of our new senior family member. While traveling in the Tuscon area our dog was suffering from dry, flakey skin. She was itching constantly and was miserable. We called Rita Ranch and made an appointment the next day. Before we arrived they had called our home veterinarian and had her records transferred. Dr Thongkham was wonderful. She was very knowledgable about our dogs condition and recommended a change of diet, a fish oil supplement, an antihistamine and a new shampoo. The office staff were friendly and caring and even called the next day to see if we were able to get the recommended items that they did not have in stock. Tuscon is very lucky to have this professional veterinary business and is especially lucky that Dr Thongkham chose to work there. read more

The vet gave my puppy so many treats that she got diarrhea on our first puppy wellness check. We stopped in with the stole sample to check for worms and asked if they could give her a quick nail trim. The receptionist was so rude and informed us that they work on an appointment only basis but she would check. They took her back for a nail trim and the Receptionist informed us that we could have taken her to a groomer. Really? I had called the day before and asked about that and was told that it would not be safe until she was fully immunized. Then we were told that no one would have told us that? She proceeded to tell us no less than six more times that they work on an appointment only basis. Needless to say after her next shots we found another vet. read more

We went here on a Saturday when our dog was stung by a bee. He wasn't a patient there, but they worked him in. Everyone there was so kind when dealing with him. They focus on really reducing anxiety in the animals and they were fantastic. Very aware of pets coming and going and letting owners checkout in the room so we wouldn't have to deal with other animals causing problems. We will be switching to this vet permanently. read more

We took our aging cat and two dogs to Dr. Krauss for various ailments, from itchy skin, to more serious weight loss in the aging cat. Each time we were treated with respect and given all the information to make an informed decision regarding treatment. We were also given recommendations for pet sitters as well as emergency care locations for after hours care. My first encounter with Rita Ranch Vets was to put down our 18 year old Westie Samantha. We had just moved to the area and didn't know where to go and our situation was an immediate need. The staff was very professional and caring. They gave us as much time as we needed with Samantha before we let her go. They walked us through everything and made sure Samantha and my family were taken care of. Since, they have always been thorough with my other 'kids' exams and answer all of my questions. I have been taking my two cats to RRPH since I moved here 11 years ago...and they are the best of the best. Dr. Krauss is the most compassionate and caring Dr I have ever met. Her compassion shines throughout the entire staff. I have spent a lot of time there with one of my animals who is chronically ill. I'm able to get an appt within a reasonable timeframe. I have complete confidence and trust in the Drs. I NEVER feel like they order unnecessary exams. I always feel well informed of what they are going to do, why and what the plan is. The entire staff at RRPH is absolutely wonderful. Some practices are in business just for the business...and then there are those who genuinely care...They Genuinely Care. I think this vet is extremely knowledgeable and we really trust her opinions. Our dog has been going there since the second day we got him at 8 weeks old. Everyone at the clinic was extremely nice and has helped us through a lot of his problems when he was a puppy. She has even called to check up on him after we took him to the emergency vet hospital when he was a pup. Our dog is now 2 and he LOVES to go to there. I highly recommend her and her staff!!! i have been taking my dogs (one who has special needs and has to go once a month) to Rita Ranch Pet Hospital for over 5 years. roughly 60 visits. today my dog max had an emergency visit. i was happy the got us in with a booked schedule but then things started to go less than great. we were there for over 2hrs (again i had no appointment). they asked before i came how long ago my dog ate breakfast. i told them just a couple of hours and he had not pooped on walk. they took an x ray to the tune of $166. to tell me max's stomach was 75% full. i could have told them that for free. we had pre surgical blood work for another $105. at which point they told me i needed to go to emergency vet hospital. Rita Ranch quoted me $895-$1495 to treat max. after $326. and no treatment at all we went to a different hospital. Max went into surgery within an hour of arriving and the entire bill at 2nd hospital was only $342. i will NEVER go back to Rita Ranch again. read more

I recently took my nine year old schnauzer to Rita Ranch Pet Hospital, for a second opinion. I was referred to Dr Krauss, and her staff, by my boyfriend who has been very happy with them. Dr Krauss and her staff were outstanding! They were very caring, compassionate and thorough! Within ten minutes of examining my pup, Dr Krauss showed concern for a mass that was on his left hip. Dr Krauss acted quickly and efficiently, to say the least! Today, ten days later, my pup underwent surgery to have the malignant mass removed. THANK YOU!! Dr Krauss and staff, for being so wonderful!
