Got my nails done last Tuesday with a French gel manicure paying $50 because I have back to back weddings this weekend. By the time I had the second wedding on Sunday, multiple nails are chipped! It hasn't even been a week and this is OPI gel. Normally at the other salon I go to, the gel lasts at least 2 weeks. So embarrassed my nails were chipped when in the bridal party. I would give 5 stars for the service but Mike(?) the owner demanded that I give the salon 20% tip or he wouldn't swipe my card. After giving me this ultimatum he hurriedly left leaving my technician in the front waiting for me to choose. Not very smart considering he's giving me the option to either use my credit card and leave without tipping my technician at all or tipping the technician on my card and leaving as a happy customer. Quality is not the norm here anymore In comparison to other nail salons, getting a mani/pedi here ain't cheap. It will set you back at least $42-45 before tip (cash only), and you're never guaranteed that the technician will do a decent job or that you'll get anything extra with the extra cost of the service. The massage also isn't always complimentary, as it always depends on which technician you get and how busy they are. If they're packed, be grateful if you even get a pat on the back. Don't go here. This place has no respect for or loyalty towards its regular customers. For over a year, I religiously got weekly manicures and 10 minute chair massages and bi-weekly spa pedicures, eyebrow waxes and 10 minute chair massages. I also always tip at least 20 percent. With the prices of this place, that's over 300 dollars a month. I got my nails painted here before a wedding. I simply wanted Essie ballet slippers -- a pretty standard request. The technician made the paint so thick that she had to redo the whole paint job and the process took over an hour! Despite not giving me a discount that day, they tried to charge me full price the next day when I came in to get my nails repainted because they had all already started chipping! The manager told me that he doesn't guarantee how long the polish lasts! Maybe he should teach his technicians how to paint and then he would be able to guarantee at least 24 hours! Was it really worth it to lose 300 dollars a month over having a tech spend ten minutes repainting my nails when the place was dead empty? Go to Gomo's down the street where they actually value their regular customers. Gomo's even has a point card that you can get you a lot of free stuff including airline tickets! read more

You know, I tried to be loyal. I really did. Every two to three weeks, I'd diligently return to my regular nail salon across the street from my office. I kept my wandering eye at bay. Hence, why I felt like I was cheating on them when I snuck in here one night to freshen up a manicure. But it was like a light in the night to see Rittenhouse Nails open and accepting walk-in's after five PM on a Sunday. My un-manicured hands were tied, I had no choice! It was definitely a bit more expensive than my past salon experiences, but they make it worth it. It was the complete stereotypical experience of "Girl's Day Out"; we are talking massages left and right, soothing music through the speakers and euphoria (ok, as close as euphoria comes to acrylic nails). No loud TVs blasting the local news or dirty looks from across the room. The staff was courteous and quick. It may be time to think about a separation..from my old salon. I know I have it coming to me price wise when I go to anywhere in Rittenhouse Square as the area is known for being high-end and pricey, and this was no exception with 'Rittenhouse' being in the name. With that being said, I don't mind dropping down money for a good service and convenience (being only a few blocks from my work). I came in to this place because they a) accepted plastic and b) didn't have too long of a wait. All I needed was a polish change. I was quickly seated, informed the woman working on my nails that I just need a polish change and I had to be back to work in 15 minutes. She acknowledged me saying this and then proceeded to get up to get the phone (which wasn't ringing), walk around the shop talking on said phone, and take nearly 30 minutes for a polish change. The woman who did my nails looked offended when I told her I didn't have time to sit under the driers and had to get back to work. The work was fine, the pricing was a bit high for a polish change (10 bucks) and the expediency was non-existent. Would I go back again? Not on my own accord or only if I had a ton of money to blow and all the time in the world. read more

A truly awful experience with this place. I will never go back. I had a manicure that I wasn't totally happy with - polish was thick and streaky. Not a huge deal, but I had an event and wanted them re-painted. I went back an hour later and politely asked for a quick polish change. The man up front (I assumed he was the owner) said "What's your problem?? There's nothing wrong. This looks fine. You probably messed it up." I was offended but tried to remain polite in my explanation. He got EXTREMELY confrontational and said "No! My friend and I went to Rittenhouse Nails today for some well-deserved mani/pedis. I've been to Rittenhouse Nails before which is why I recommended it to my friend (new in town) but I felt compelled to write after my experience today. I barely ever get pedicures because I'm super ticklish but I felt like Lisa went out of her way to give me the full treatment despite almost kicking her in the face. Now I've had many a manicure in my day, and even a few at this establishment, but today was, by far, the best manicure I have ever had. One of the women here is terrible, does a terrible job on your nails and a terrible job massaging you, so bad you end up more annoyed than relaxed. Why does this matter? Clearly Rittenhouse Nails' competitive advantage lies in their full experience being that my nails (4 times I've been here) usually chip after 5-7 days; this is unheard of for me, I'm originally from California and whenever I've had a pedicure with OPI or Essie, my polish grows out before it even attempts to chip - I think they are filling their bottles with cheap polish. Came here yesterday after work, looking to get gel removed from my nails and a fresh manicure. I tried to go to another salon who claimed they couldn't take walk-ins (their site said they could), so walking and here being seated immediately was nice! Not sure exactly who did my nails but it was quick and my manicure looked good. I paid $20 for removal of the gel and a manicure. Not bad. I have only had a basic mani here - still too scared to risk a pedi. Most Philly nail salons are soooooo filthy. It seemed pretty clean here. Better than Gomo and waaaaaay better than City Nails (aka Sh&tty Nails). Bring your wn base coat if you want something good - they used cheap base coat on me. But they did have Seche Vite top coat - which I love. And they had chair massage - it was pretty meh - but I needed it - however lame it may have been. read more

I like it. Lets be honest - they do a great job. When my back or neck start hurting me - what do I do - I get a pedicure here. Let me break it down for you. Pedicure (in a spa chair with massager back) for an hour. Then once my toes are all pretty and my legs are all rubbed for and moisturzed - I go to the dryer. And then my lovely nail girl gives me a mini massage. Done. It's a no brainer. I pay for a pedicure and I get a massage too! Mind you all for cheaper than a hour massage at your local spa. I hope you all start taking my word-of-wisdom on this one and let me know what you think. I'm being serious - tell me what you think. Because right now I think I've figured out the goods. One feedback I should add is I don't go to the same person everytime - it really doesn't bother me. But I have had nail ladies take way longer than reasonable (when it comes to the pedicure part). So be careful on your time constrainsts. If you've got a time issue - don't stress yourself out trying to get a massage and a pedicure for the price of a pedicure - you'll only stress yourself out more and not get the benefits of the massage. read more

I went in to get the acrylic on my nails filled in and after 3 days, there were chips or cracks on almost half of my nails. I'd go back for a regular mani/pedi because the massage they give you is awesome and I love the variety of OPI and Essie colors they have but that's about it. Definitely not worth the $25 for a fill-in considering I really don't do too much manual labor so I'm not sure why the acrylic chipped so easily. I went to Rittenhouse Nails last weekend for a gel manicure and spa pedicure before I went on vacation. The pedicure started fine, but my nail technician was very rough, causing me to flinch several times. When it came time for my manicure, the woman cut me with the cuticle scissors three times. I had three, small, bleeding cuts on my fingers that she kept spraying with alcohol. OUCH. The massage that was provided while my nails were drying was also painful, and left me with a sore neck. I was so glad when my nails were finally done so that I could leave. When it came time to pay, I was charged $70.00. I used to go to Rittenhouse Nails when I worked downtown about a year and a half-two years ago and was never charged that much for a gel manicure and pedicure. The cost bothered me only because I was not happy with the services that I had received. My toe polish chipped my first day of vacation and the gel polish on my nails began peeling four days after I had them done. That is not a $70 service. I was very disappointed that the quality of Rittenhouse Nails has diminished while their prices have spiked. I will not be returning. read more

Had a blissful, relaxing birthday pedi and gel mani here last weekend with my Mom. They include a hot stone massage with their regular pedicure and a back massage with their manicure.They also use gloves to protect your hands from the UV light during the gel manicures, which is a very nice touch and shows how much they care about their clients. My nails came out perfect, and I left feeling happy and relaxed. What's not to love? I don't live in Philadelphia, but my Mom is a regular and she loves it (and they clearly love her and pamper her each and every visit, which she deserves). read more

Every single employee here has an insane attitude problem. All three times I've been here I have been treated like crap. And all three times I've had to come back to get a nail(s) fixed from breakage. Last time I came the woman shook her head at me for my tip which was well above average. Today I called ahead and came in to get ONE nail fixed and they made me wait while letting other walk-ins go ahead of me. Mind you there was only one customer being served when I walked in- the rest of the employees just stared at me like I was an alien for getting something fixed that they screwed up. The service from the women who did my nails was good. I came in late and they still accommodated me. This place gets a one star review because of the manager. As I said, I came in late. The girls who did my nails left before they were dry and I could tip them. On the way out the door, I asked the short man at the desk for their names so I could drop the tip off the next day. (I work across the street, I walk past this place everyday.) He demanded that I give him their tip, now. He actually got loud and yelled. So I got just as loud asking why I should give him a tip for work he didn't do? He then proceeded to try argue with me, demanding a tip. Although it's my habit to tip, isn't tipping optional? I reminded him of that. I cannot believe his audacity, not only to demand a tip, but demand a tip that he did not earn and to yell at me. He even told me to use their ATM if I did not have cash. I'm surprised by all of the so-so and negative reviews about this place. I started going to Rittenhouse Nails for my pedicures this past spring and have only had a so-so experience once when the technician who did my pedi checked her email instead of giving me the neck and shoulder rub at the end. Consistently, every time I go the place is spotless. The tubs are cleaned between each use. The technicians check and recheck my cuticles. The foot and leg massage is great. I leave with smooth heels and great looking toes. The polish consistently stays on for over three weeks. I even took my husband there and he loved it too. Folks may not love the price point ($30 for a pedicure) or the fact that you have to pay tips in cash only, but there are lots of other places in the neighborhood that charge more (Nail Bar) and don't do as good a job. Of course, there are places that charge less (City Nails) but I never leave there with a pedi that lasts for more than a week or with super soft feet. read more

WORST SALON EVER!!The guy who runs it is so RUDE and treats women like crap. I used to go a few times a month because one of the girls did a decent job. I came in on time for my appointment and he angrily and loudly said, "you missed your appointment last week!" There were a few customers staring and it was embarrassing. I told very apologetically him I didn't have it written down. He kept repeating it over and over pointing to the appointment book as I groveled almost in tears and said I was so, so, so sorry and that my mom was in cancer treatment and I could've made a mistake when keeping track of appointments. I calmly explained that in 2 years I NEVER missed one appointment, not one. Honestly, I am not even sure if it was actually my fault or if someone wrote it down wrong. However, I took the blame and just kept repeating I am so, so sorry, I must have made a mistake. He didn't budge, just kept pointing at the book and yelling at me. I asked him if he wanted me to leave and he was quiet for a moment and then nastily said after his long pase, "just go pick a color!" I just turned around and left. I was humiliated and left in practically in tears. I wish someone would have come to my defense when they heard how he was speaking to me. I went to Rittenhouse Nails religiously for about 18 months for a manicure and pedicure, I always got great service by the technicians and was easily able to walk in. The owner is quite rude and I have noticed his treatment toward his staff and other customers in the past. He told me to turn off my chair once and was really rough during a nail removal but that didn't stop me from going as he was just filling in until a technician freed up. Last month I went in for a pedicure for the first time since COVID. I assumed they had to adhere to the standards set out for the state of PA but I was wrong. I had thought it was every other chair and felt safe but saw him start to place someone next to me. I made eye contact and asked him if he was sitting someone here when he came to move my bag onto the floor without asking me and he said rudely said yeah. I told him I was not comfortable and he placed someone there anyway. I got up and told him I was uncomfortable and wanted to be 6ft away from the person next to me. I was then placed in a new chair that someone just got out of, I asked if he was going to sanitize it and he looked at me as if I had 4 heads. If my feet weren't covered in foil I'd have left. I grabbed the sanitizer and sanitized the chair myself. Wanted to report them but the staff are too sweet and I'd hate for them to be impacted read more
