Had an absolutely delightful early dinner, deviled egg appetizers, a chicken, Caesar salad salad and a steak salad and both were made by somebody who obviously likes salads as they were beautiful to look at and absolutely delicious. Dessert was Keylime, crème brûlée, delicately balanced, acidic versus sweet and quite good. I highly recommend this place, our server was Johnny. River & Fort has a rooftop area that overlooks the river, the old fort, and the historic district. There is also a large covered patio in addition to an inside dining room. This seemed like a great place to enjoy a nice dinner with friends who live in the area. The dedicated parking lot is very small and you have to move your car if you're visiting other parts of historic St. Augustine, so you are better off parking in a nearby parking lot. The restaurant is first come, first serve and does not accept reservations. We arrived at about 6 on a Saturday in March with lots of folks in town for Spring Break and were told we'd have about an hour wait for an outside only table, at which point we'd get a text when our table is ready. This seemed totally reasonable and we expected to wait given the day/time of year. We returned after an hour and checked in, but our table wasn't ready. After waiting another 40 minutes and watching the outdoor waiting area empty out, as well as noticing that there were several tables for five available outside, we checked in and were told our reservation was lost. We were immediately shown to an indoor table in a very loud room. Our server was very nice, but we did have to ask for bread and it took a long time to get food ordered. The spare ribs were inedible. For an $18 appetizer at a place that is supposed to have really good food, I shouldn't be getting meat that's been overcooked. While there were some interesting dishes on the menu, I would not return here again as there are many better places nearby, including Harry's. read more

Really great spot for a dinner out in Downtown St Augustine. Right next to the fort...this location is elite. Great bar downstairs while you wait for your table with access to the outside patio area. The Cannon Shrimp and warm Ciabatta were simple but great apps. If you have a table of 4 I'd go with the Ciabatta. We were just a table of 2. My wife really enjoyed the Braised Beef as her main. Prices were as expected...not too pricey for the tourist area. Views of the water/fort/people watching are what made this place great for a date. read more

Excellent location right across from the fort. Got there at 5pm on a Tuesday. Reservations were for 6, but we were immediately sat. Our server was outstanding! Can't remember her name, but she was able to suggest good menu items. As my husband has a shellfish allergy, it helped that she was able to suggest certain menu items to him because she has the same allergy. We had the sticky ribs and Cuban egg rolls for the appetizer. For entrees, we had the steak salad, short ribs, and fried chicken and dumplings. All of it was outstanding! Definitely our spot if we ever come back to St. Augustine. read more

This is easily one of my favorite places in St. Augustine. The whole atmosphere of this place is on a whole other level. We had just finished up at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument across the street and decided to grab a drink and app and I had this place saved on Yelp. It wasn't opened yet when we walked up to the doors, but it was opening in less than 5 minutes. So we waited for the people in front of us to enter and then we asked to be seated outside. The patios of this place are phenomenal and make you feel like you're in a special place. The waitress we had was super happy and friendly and greeted us almost immediately upon being seated. Loved the ambience and the multitude of seating options from 2 dinning rooms, Rooftop bar plus other outdoor seating on different levels. We started with some apps for the table and everyone decided the bang shrimp dish was the favorite followed by the fried Pickle hushpuppies. For my main I went with the Ocean Platter it was very tasty. I choose to sub mashed potatoes instead of rice and felt it was a very solid choice. I like the hint of pesto drizzle it added nice brightness to the fish and scallops. I should have asked for more. My husband devoured the smothered pork chop and we both agreed the collard greens were some of the best we have had out in some time. This place is a great spot since it's right across from the fort. You can see the fort, the water and so many people coming in and out of the town. The oysters are delicious and the drinks are pretty yummy too. However, some of the courses are just alright or not so great. My friend and I split the scallops, but it was so few so I was still hungry after and they were just okay. My husband ended up getting the big $100+ tamahawk, and ended up getting sick for it, and it wasn't even that good to begin with. I wish the roof wasn't so tiny and it wasn't so hot so we could have eaten up there. But the first two floors of the inside are very nice. Bathrooms are well maintained as well. Would recommend for drinks and small meals, but don't get the really expensive meals as they aren't worth it. read more

Excellent food from presentation to taste. I ordered the Charred Miso-Glazed Salmon. Every selection on this dish was so delicious, the whipped sweet potatoes were like a desert! Hubby ordered the Prime New York Steak, off the recommendation of our bartender (yes that's right). He is not a New York Steak kinda guy but absolutely enjoyed the cut of meat and the temperature it was cooked at. So back to the bartender, sat at the bar waiting for a table, nice atmosphere and very attentive service. This is my go to restaurant whenever we decide to go have a fancy lunch/dinner in St. Augustine. This restaurant is almost new very nice inside. I think they did a wonderful job building this restaurant and it has the water view! it is 3 floors located almost in the middle of downtown St. Augustine. Parking sucks lol but that is anywhere in St. Augustine. Service here is always on point! that's why I love going here. They are quick and very attentive. Food is AMAZING! I had here the calamari and the French onion soup for appetizers and its amazing! Calamari is breaded perfectly not heavy and you can tell that the squids are fresh. The French onion comes in very hot and very tasty. as for my main entre I always order the short ribs and that is absolutely my favorite! The portion they give you is so big and the ribs just falls when you grab it and it melts in your mouth! Just a little tip before planning to go here, make sure to have reservations especially in the evening. Lunch not so much. but River and Fort is definitely one of my favorite places to go. Four of us ate here on a Thursday night in January. Even though it was off season they were very busy. It's a well lit atmosphere and a little on the noisy side but not so bad you couldn't hear your table mates. Our service was ok, one person asked for salt and pepper shakers when the food came & it took so long her husband got some from another table. The food was very tasty. I had the French onion soup which was really good however it was small for $13. She had salmon which she said was delicious. We also had the iceberg lettuce which was huge and she got a filet on the side of the salad. It's a little on the pricey side for what you get. We joined friends for their anniversary celebration. First thing to note, it's St. Augustine so be prepared to fight for your life to park. Once you get through that huddle, it's going to be a lovely experience. We started with appetizers; sticky ribs, a beet salad and a wedge salad. I didn't eat any; however, all I heard were smacking lips and quiet hum of mmm's in appreciation for the bounty before them. Our entrees consisted of two shrimp and lobster pasta dishes, a lobster roll and scallops on a bed of risotto. This is the second time in a month that my spouse ordered the same scallop dish at two different restaurants and each time I saw nothing but glee in her eyes. We finished off the meal with a smore's pudding dessert. For this being our first time, it was definitely experience. The restaurant is located across from the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and is full of windows to see the Monument as well as the Mantanzas Bay. As an appetizer, we ordered the cannonball shrimp. The shrimp were fried, covered in cannonball sauce, with bacon bits, and sat on rice noodles. For my entree, I ordered the steak and shrimp frites from the lunch menu. A 4oz steak with grilled shrimp, onions, and mushrooms served with French fries. Delicious! I have to say the peppercorn sauce was not my favorite with a slightly off putting aftertaste. But the meat was cooked perfect and I enjoyed the asparagus and mashed potatoes. Overall a very lovely evening and would highly recommend it for a special occasion. And the ability to make reservations it's so nice in a vacation town. First time visiting this upscale but not pretentious steak and seafood house. There was a brief wait as it was really busy and full of people. We wanted to check out the bar, but it was packed, too. We were told that the bar upstairs was not crowded. It was. Upon being seated, it took several minutes for our server to take our drink order. By the time he got to us, we were ready to order our dinner. My girlfriend ordered the short rib dinner with a soup. I ordered the pork chop with a soup. Our server suggested that we also try the house bread as it's a non menu item and it was very good. He got our drink order and headed off. My girlfriend ordered a rum cocktail. When our server came back to check on us, he said our entree was about ready. She asked about her cocktail and was told it's at the bar, but he did not bring it. It was delivered immediately after that. Our server came back again and said he had forgotten the soup orders and that if we still wanted, he'd get it. We decided not to get it since our entree was about to come out. We didn't get the bread either. More on that in a bit. Both entrees were plated up really nice. My pork chop was over an inch thick. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice peach glaze with some sliced peaches. It also came with a bed of collared greens that were on the sweet side. It also included a side of gouda mac and cheese and some pork rinds. All perfectly prepared. My girlfriend said her short rib was great as she ate every bit of it. We did get dessert. It was very silky and light. And it was key lime flavored. It wasn't consistently tart. I had several bites that weren't flavorful. The topping was a bit light, too. Overall, the food was very good. They had several other items I'd consider another time. We got the bill. A bit over $120.00 for everything. The problem was that our server added 2 soups to our bill. I also noticed he didn't put the bread on the receipt. So to close this review out, I would try it again. The service was less than adequate as our server wasn't that attentive. I saw others get their food before us despite being there well before they arrived. I'd go again to see if they could redeem themselves. Just look your bill over. read more
