We started with the sticky ribs and the fried green tomatoes -- there were four of us, and the portions were just right for sharing. Both dishes were fantastic and full of flavor. It was a fun night walking around looking at the Nights of Lights. We had made reservations before our trip at River & Fort after getting high recommendations from another Yelp friend. It was packed when we arrived but we were seated within 20 minutes after a warm welcome from the hostess and taken upstairs to the second floor. Everyone was having fun upstairs also. Music was playing fairly loud and the crowd was loud but it was tolerable. It was a few days before Christmas so everyone was in good spirits and high energy. The place was beautifully decorated! Our server was Marlou D and she was great. She was knowledgeable about the menu and had good recommendations. I ordered the Misu Glazed Salmon with Sweet Potato mash, which was very good!! I had an Iced Tea. My daughter ordered the Short Rib entrée and was happy with her choice. She ordered the Bourbon and Berries cocktail with her meal and was pleased. Marlou came around to check on us frequently, which was great. Parking was difficult to find because of the Nights of Lights going on but we managed about 1/2 a block away across the street. River & Fort is definitely worth a RSVP! The next time you're in St. Augustine, please add this restaurant to your itinerary. We were seated immediately with our RSVP and our server was the BEST! We ordered a mocktail, Sticky Ribs with delicious Gochujiang BBQ sauce, and Zellwood Sweet Corn & Crab soup as appetizers. The ribs were super tender and the amount of chunks of crab in the soup was a pleasant surprise. The soup had balanced flavors and I would most certainly order it again. Our entrees included 1) Fried Shrimp with hand-cut fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies and 2) Blackened Fish tacos, also served with hand-cut fries. Everything was tasty, fresh, and plated with care. You don't want to miss the Apple Pie Galette! The combination of flaky crust, carmelized apples, candied pecans, and caramel whipped cream was amazing and I still daydream about it! We basically enjoyed a feast while marveling at the decor, especially the attractive light fixtures, solid wood tables and seats with leather backing. This restaurant will be on our list of favorites in St. Augustine. There is a roof-top lounge, a large bar area, and even balcony seating overlooking the main thoroughfare. Our motel frig was broken. We started with bloody marys. They were the best we have had although they could have been garnished better. For food we decided on calamari and a wedge salad. Had dinner here during Christmas week. This week is the most crowded time in St Augustine. Fortunately they take reservations. Despite being at full capacity, the service and food was excellent. Wow!! What a great place!! Made reservations for dinner (easy on Open Table) Got a table pretty quick and our server instantly stopped by to tell us his name and he was grabbing us water when he comes back! (huge fan of being acknowledged!!) We brought our drinks from the bar so all was good! River & Fort is a stunning restaurant right on the bay in St. Augustine. I love the multiple levels of the restaurant, each with its own dining section. Our server was very welcoming and provided some great recommendations on what to order. I got the prime New York strip which came with 2 garlic shrimp, mashed potatoes, and broccolini. The Boursin fondue on the steak was flavorful and indulgent. I got the steak medium rare, and it was so tender and juicy. The only problem was that it had a bit more fat than expected as well as a really tough tendon that made it difficult to cut. The mashed potatoes were incredible with the juice from the steak. The broccolini was also delicious in the sauce. Really solid dish overall! read more

A new find for us, this place is uniquely located with amazing views from the roof top of the Mantanzas river and the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument fort. Nice staff greeted us everywhere we wandered and sparked conversations that only made for a better visit. Upon heading to the rooftop I spotted a pizza oven and asked if they could make a four-cheese pizza. They two appeared as though that was not on the menu but to ask the waiter and they would be able to make it how we'd like. The pizza turned out exactly as I'd asked and reminded me of Quattro Formaggi brick oven pizza that I'd had in past years in Europe. The crust was thin and crispy with a thin layer of sauce, just enough cheeses and topped with some basil and oregano seasonings. They've spoiled me with this one pizza and I can't wait until I return to have it again. The Blacksmith cocktail is great with Amaretto, pineapple and ginger, etc and was so good, I had to have another. Great place, highly recommended! While walking through downtown St. Augustine, we noticed their menu board outside and decided to just take a look and we saw a few things that caught our eye so we enjoyed an amazing dinner at the River and Fort restaurant. Our server for the day with Amber C. And she gave us some really good suggestions and recommendations and answered our questions regarding the menu and I think we made the perfect choices. We started with the ciabatta loaf of bread and French onion soup, which were both a five out of five. Really great spot for a dinner out in Downtown St Augustine. Right next to the fort...this location is elite. Great bar downstairs while you wait for your table with access to the outside patio area. The Cannon Shrimp and warm Ciabatta were simple but great apps. If you have a table of 4 I'd go with the Ciabatta. We were just a table of 2. My wife really enjoyed the Braised Beef as her main. Prices were as expected...not too pricey for the tourist area. Views of the water/fort/people watching are what made this place great for a date. read more

Can't remember her name, but she was able to suggest good menu items. What can we say. We had guests come so we went this past Thurs and then just this past Tues night again because Thurs was so great. Thurs we sat at the bar on the first floor and had dinner and drinks with Austin. He was fantastic. Everyone loved their drinks and food and raved about it. Heard best collard greens ever. Some had stuff NY strip with couple grilled shrimp and risotto. Couple others had the filet. All very tender and flavorful. The wine was deelish, Cab & Sangiovese. The conquistador cocktail was also very good! Cat was our server and she was so mannerly and attentive. Both nights were impeccable service and food. All made fresh to order. I can't rave about River & Fort enough. Service was EXCELLENT, even during a very busy period. Mirelah was super funny, amazing character, and provided amazing service with spot on recommendations for desserts. (Sorry if I misspelled). Atmosphere was very high class with gorgeous interiors and exterior spaces. The rooftop is amazing during the sunset as well. Partner and I want to try the rooftop menu next time. We were on the ground level and had the shrimp and lobster pasta and the French dip sandwich. While the servings were good and the presentation was beautiful, the food was not as savory as we were expecting for the price. HOWEVER that does not mean it was bad at all, was filling and we took leftovers we enjoyed later. Now the desserts were a different story. My gosh for the sweets alone it was worth it. We had the open face apple pie with ice cream and the chocolate custard dessert. Super rich and amazing taste and not badly priced AT ALL. We were shocked that the service was that way when meal options where all around $30 each. We expected that kind of service from Mc Donald's. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees. Our appetizer came out with our seafood dish at the same time. Then 15 minutes later our salad came out. All the food was delicious but the way they delivered our food was weird. I understand it was late night and close to close , though I do believe if your hours say you're open you should provide the same quality service no matter what. Throughout our experience the bartenders personality and care was very attentive and she made us laugh a few times. She didn't serve us like she was rushing us out , though the first impression was hard to redo. Husband also had the corn and crab chowder and said it was one of the best chowders he's had. The only complaint was the hostess. We had reservations, checked in, and then stood there for 25 minutes while watching other people who came in after us get seated. River & Fort has a rooftop area that overlooks the river, the old fort, and the historic district. There is also a large covered patio in addition to an inside dining room. This seemed like a great place to enjoy a nice dinner with friends who live in the area. The dedicated parking lot is very small and you have to move your car if you're visiting other parts of historic St. Augustine, so you are better off parking in a nearby parking lot. The restaurant is first come, first serve and does not accept reservations. We arrived at about 6 on a Saturday in March with lots of folks in town for Spring Break and were told we'd have about an hour wait for an outside only table, at which point we'd get a text when our table is ready. This seemed totally reasonable and we expected to wait given the day/time of year. We returned after an hour and checked in, but our table wasn't ready. After waiting another 40 minutes and watching the outdoor waiting area empty out, as well as noticing that there were several tables for five available outside, we checked in and were told our reservation was lost. We were immediately shown to an indoor table in a very loud room. Our server was very nice, but we did have to ask for bread and it took a long time to get food ordered. The spare ribs were inedible. For an $18 appetizer at a place that is supposed to have really good food, I shouldn't be getting meat that's been overcooked. While there were some interesting dishes on the menu, I would not return here again as there are many better places nearby, including Harry's. read more

This place is a great spot since it's right across from the fort. You can see the fort, the water and so many people coming in and out of the town. The oysters are delicious and the drinks are pretty yummy too. However, some of the courses are just alright or not so great. My friend and I split the scallops, but it was so few so I was still hungry after and they were just okay. My husband ended up getting the big $100+ tamahawk, and ended up getting sick for it, and it wasn't even that good to begin with. I wish the roof wasn't so tiny and it wasn't so hot so we could have eaten up there. But the first two floors of the inside are very nice. Bathrooms are well maintained as well. Would recommend for drinks and small meals, but don't get the really expensive meals as they aren't worth it. read more
