First time visiting this upscale but not pretentious steak and seafood house. There was a brief wait as it was really busy and full of people. We wanted to check out the bar, but it was packed, too. We were told that the bar upstairs was not crowded. It was. Upon being seated, it took several minutes for our server to take our drink order. By the time he got to us, we were ready to order our dinner. My girlfriend ordered the short rib dinner with a soup. I ordered the pork chop with a soup. Our server suggested that we also try the house bread as it's a non menu item and it was very good. He got our drink order and headed off. My girlfriend ordered a rum cocktail. When our server came back to check on us, he said our entree was about ready. She asked about her cocktail and was told it's at the bar, but he did not bring it. It was delivered immediately after that. Our server came back again and said he had forgotten the soup orders and that if we still wanted, he'd get it. We decided not to get it since our entree was about to come out. We didn't get the bread either. More on that in a bit. Both entrees were plated up really nice. My pork chop was over an inch thick. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice peach glaze with some sliced peaches. It also came with a bed of collared greens that were on the sweet side. It also included a side of gouda mac and cheese and some pork rinds. All perfectly prepared. My girlfriend said her short rib was great as she ate every bit of it. We did get dessert. It was very silky and light. And it was key lime flavored. It wasn't consistently tart. I had several bites that weren't flavorful. The topping was a bit light, too. Overall, the food was very good. They had several other items I'd consider another time. We got the bill. A bit over $120.00 for everything. The problem was that our server added 2 soups to our bill. I also noticed he didn't put the bread on the receipt. So to close this review out, I would try it again. The service was less than adequate as our server wasn't that attentive. I saw others get their food before us despite being there well before they arrived. I'd go again to see if they could redeem themselves. Just look your bill over. read more

Hands-down the best restaurant we have eaten at in Saint Augustine! Our waiter, Sean was very attentive and made great recommendations for our meal. First time to River & Fort and it was everything I hoped for. The location is in a great spot across from the fort in Saint Augustine so parking was easy. We went with some friends and started out with some drinks. I ordered a cocktail GUN POWDER & GUAVA which is Mezcal Ojo de Tigre, Leblon Cachaca, Guava Syrup, Peach and Lime Juice. A delicious drink! For an appetizer I ordered the French onion soup also very good. For the entree my wife ordered Fisherman Stew. Almost perfect except the shrimp were a little overdone. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs. The presentation was great and tasted great. It was a large portion for sure. Our server was Amber, she made several recommendations and all were spot on! The restaurant was nice with great table settings however by the end of the night it was getting rather loud. But that just means everyone is having fun! Husband and I went to River & Fort on a Sunday for early dinner. The line was very long but because of its great location, you get to drop your name/phone# on the waiting list and can go for a nice leisure walk. So while there is a wait, it's not really noticeable. We tried a few appetizers and shared a tomahawk ribeye steak. The food was good, and we got to enjoy the view from the balcony. I was so excited to try out this restaurant as I had been to its sister restaurant in Jacksonville, and I had all the right to be! Though we all have very different dietary needs (ranging from no real restrictions to being gluten-free & vegan), we were able to have an amazing dinner which catered to all of our needs and was fantastically yummy to boot! I had the Rustic Chicken Thigh & Dumplings; friend chicken thigh in a delicious gravy served with datil jam & dumplings. I couldn't get enough, and seriously considered ordering another just to bring to the AirBnb that night. It was had just a touch of heat, the chicken was delicious with a nice crunch, and the dumplings pillowy-soft. My wife had the Hot Hot Cauliflower and declared it be on the of the best vegan dinners she's ever had a restaurant. My kiddo also loved her chicken tenders & fries. I had a tasty bourbon & blackberry cocktail, while the bar made a blackberry mojito mocktail for my wife. Service was great, and we had dinner in a beautiful room full of large windows overlooking the bay. We were so happy to try a new restaurant and hit a home run with this one. We wanted to eat on the rooftop so we took the elevator up to the 2nd floor then climbed 2 flights of stairs to get to the area where no service existed. After 10-15min of not seeing any servers, I went back down two flights of stairs to ask a long haired male bartender if they even served food on the rooftop. He wasn't interested in helping me out at all, but while I was waiting for his no response a female server came through yelling to get out of the way... as if she HATED her job, and wished I was completely out of her WAY. Our first visit we shared a Filet & Caramelized Onion Neapolitan Pizza which and an Old Fashioned. The pizza consisted of filet, forest mushrooms, bleu crumble, marsala demi, and balsamic glaze. It was one of the most incredible pizzas i've ever eaten. The filet melts in your mouth and the savory caramelized onions and marsala paired perfectly. The Old Fashioned was over priced and below par from anything I would expect from a higher end establishment. If you looking for an incredible view and drinks, go to the 3rd story roof patio and get a seat overlooking Castillo de San Marcos. My 15 yo daughter and I came down to spend some quality time together in beautiful St Augustine and found River & Fort right away. Had a wonderful lunch and the hosts were very accommodating. We waited for a table but the text didn't come in, however the manager helped find us something. People watching was hilarious and there was a pirate pub crawl going on. During our long wait we did head to the patio downstairs bar area and ordered a shrimp cocktail and our dinner (which we eventually moved to a table). The shrimp were huge. Not a fan of cocktail sauce and the shrimp were already dipped into it. But that was ok for me. When we got to the table finally. We had tuna and salmon. Also very good food. (thank you to the hostesses and manager) (also the waitress who took us was also sweet and super accommodating and was working hard being pregnant) The only problem I had with the place was a bartender who seemed really tipsy. She was nice at first but while we were waiting for our table we watched her doing a few shots and with the wait staff. All seemed ok until she started talking badly about hating people and hating on pirate pub people and had a weird attitude all the way around. I was with my daughter so was hoping for a good experience but the bartender sort of flipped from nice to dazed and confused with cursing and making fun of how woman aren't capable in a sarcastic joke. Maybe she was having a bad night but getting drunk while serving isn't the answer. Another great experience at River and Fort last night before watching the fireworks show in St Augustine. My wife and I always opt to eat at the bar when we visit this place. The bartending dynamic duo of Sam and Randi are both amazing and phenomenal at multi tasking! Both are very good at what they do. Randi is a Jersey Girl with a bit of an edge but we love her! I had the burger last night while my wife enjoyed the Lobster Roll. No doubt one of our go to spots in SA. Love this place!!! read more
