The key with any all-you-can-eat buffet is to go when they're busy. The food is fresh, hot, and it doesn't taste like it's been sitting there for an hour. Of course, some buffets taste like that all the time. River does not. If you go to River during their busy times, you'll be pleased with the quality of their food. Lots of choices. Usually there's a carving station with ham, turkey or prime rib. Sushi bar and Hibachi service are good. All-in-all, I like it enough I've now been there about 25 times. I started going when it was Tokyo Grill and Buffet. I really don't notice a different between then and now. The service might be worthy of a complaint, but my bar is set so low for service these days that it's really not worth complaining about. Customer service will never be like it was. I've just come to accept that. Besides, it's a buffet. You mostly serve yourself anyway. They'll bring you silverware, seat you and (mostly) keep your drinks filled. I would recommend River to anyone who wants an above-average all-you-can-eat Chinese Buffet. I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

I understand COVID but their has to be an explanation as to why the utensils and plates are filthy. Before I could take a picture of the many plates that still had food and stains on them, the employee snatch them. Manager is very nonchalant even when I showed him the proof. They still have the pound and water fountain, the same party room ( great for family get together, birthday party and more). Because I told my kids that's were we was going, they was happy. One star because can't blah any lower blah. Uh over fried everything fried, time and temp abused Philly steak roll (presumably from the dawn of time), pizza so undercooked the dough was less done than frozen ready to bake biscuits. The chicken dishes...none made it past one bite. The only thing I found on the buffet that wasn't totally gross or bland was the yeast rolls. So tonight I'm living off the sketchy scoop it from the well yourself ice cream and the strange cookies that aren't as sweet as they look. I'm not sure if the rice was undercooked or it was stale but either way the yellow rice was disgusting and the chicken and broccoli also was not done. I threw the food up in the establishment. There were gnats flying everywhere including the food at the buffet. the silverware was not clean. my families cups had white films floating at the top of our ice water. The man from the front desk was very racist I went to him with all of my issues and because I was the first person to complain he said it didn't really matter, he disregarded all of my complaints asking did I try other things, never once apologized for the inconvenience, didn't do ANYTHING a manager should've done to make me feel as though my complaints mattered. he gave condensing looks and answers while talking to him, I asked for a refund on my food to which I did not eat and he even asked the waitress and she said no but I still did NOT get a refund! Amazingly fresh and delicious fresh food. The grandest and best buffet I have ever been to. So much seafood and the most sushi I've ever seen. Tried the River Buffet Grill, first of all had a 92 health score. But drove all the way from the west side of Charlotte and family had the site set on this place. I personally don't like to eat somewhere lower than a 95. First of all service was bad. Waitress just left the drinks a end of table. Didn't bother to pass them out. Food was bad, no taste. Spring roll was soggy, no crunch. So was the egg roll. The egg drop soup had a off putting taste, and won ton chips you put in it had a stale taste. And the shrimp still had the in-trail still in them. Don't know about you, but I like to eat my shrimp without the poop. If I could give a zero I would. This place is NOT clean, the food quality is mediocre at best! The waiters were extremely rude. They have crab on the buffet but don't have crackers to break them. When asked they said they don't have crackers and not to eat. Why serve something inedible?! I'm surprised the health department hasn't shut them down it's just plain dirty! I don't think my husband and I will be back. Buffets are usually hit or miss. This one was a miss. We came here after running errands all day. We were tired and hungry. This place had a lot of cars in the parking lot so we thought it couldn't hurt to try. Food was gross. Some of the stuff was not even cooked all the way. The only thing I found eatable was something on the dessert bar. It was in a clear plastic square container and it was green. Tasted like mint whipped cream. OK I haven't had Chinese in YEARS. My friend convinced me to give this place a try, it has new owners. I visited around 6pm. As I walked up I realized the front doors were open. The food was not hot at all more like room temperature. I noticed the buffet bar lady (she wears a baseball cap) tossing around and grabbing at the lo mein. As I observed the situation closer, she was trying to catch a FLY in the lo mein. We both locked eyes and she immediately took the pan out of the bar. I continued watching her at the entrance to the kitchen. She took the fly out, dumped the lo mein in a new pan and returned it back to the bar. I was disgusted at this point and we just left. An average buffet that serves sushi, noodles, and other asian selections Its not a bad place to eat for your typical dishes. I fairly enjoyed the array of sushi, especially the plate of sashimi. River Buffet is my favorite restaurant! I am so happy they have reopened for dine in service. My husband & I ate there often prior to Covid-19 & I was curious to see what changes they may have made indoors, if any, due to COVID-19. When you enter the restaurant they have a table with a sign stating that masks & gloves, which they provide, are required in the restaurant. When they take your drink order, they return w/your drink in a large styrofoam cup w/a top. There's a sign on the table that says refills are not available due to COVID-19. As prior to COVID-19, you can still serve yourself. I love the fact that they have a huge variety of delicious food & sushi.
