Went here for breakfast it was 11:00 waitress told us they were not serving breakfast. We ordered lunch and finally received our order after 35 minutes. The chicken sandwich was horrible it was rubbery and chewy and cold ! No one ever came over to ask how everything was or for a drink refill ! I've been frequenting RBC for a long time. Even thought the menu has changed a little over the years, the quality has remained the same. I always try to get breakfast here when I can, but it can be a bit much. I have yet to have a bad burger or sandwich here. For Mechanicsville, this is a great place to dine. We've eaten here twice and this second time will be our last. The club sandwich was pretty tastelss and served with fries that were only warm and SOGGY. The BBQ shrimp was way overcooked and not very good. The garden salad with chicken was a disappointment also. I ordered sweet tea and I think someone dumped the whole sack of sugar in the mixing bucket ....way too sweet even for my tastes. Service was just OK. They were slow at bring more napkins when requested, slow with glasses of water. The restaurant is open and spacious and had a fair amount of customers and appeared clean and tidy. After my nieces graduation, we stopped by here for some breakfast, based off my sister-in-laws high review of their lunch. I order the chicken fried chicken, with two eggs over medium and potatoes. My order came out with grits instead of potatoes, but I didn't make a fuss of it because I figured the grits were a better eating option than the potatoes. Horrible decision! The grits tasted watered down and flavorless, even after adding in butter, sugar and pepper. Nothing helped! The chicken fried chicken..... I've had better at Hardees. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1, is because my sister-in-law ordered some fried shrimp while we waited for our bill and that came out tasting pretty legit. read more

Came here recently and was disappointed in the product and service. Got a hamburger and the bun was stale and the burger was not great. I enjoyed the family friendly atmosphere and affordable mix of comfort food. IMO the interior could use a makeover. The Shrimp N Grits was good but the dish was missing a signature spark. For an extra $1 my dish was garnished with sautéed onions and bacon. As a side dish I had small cup of chili. It had a mild blend of spices with rich flavor. Riverbound used to be a wonderful little restaurant--fresh food, great service and reasonable prices. We especially liked their burger night special on Mondays--third pound burger with cheese and fries for just $6.50. Tonight's burger was not fresh. I suspect reheated from partially cooked earlier in the day. It wasn't juicy at all. The romaine lettuce was brown on the edges and wilted. The tomato was shriveled and very small. The red onion was not a whole slice, but two rings that were not crisp. The best thing about the food was the large crispy, pickle and tater tots with spicy Ranch dressing. They weren't hot, but did taste okay with the dip. The server was very friendly. We're not sure if management is working on these issues since in the past year, these things have happened more than once. read more

Very clean and spacious. The grits were nothing to write home about as they were a bit undercooked. The Spinach and the After the Run omelettes were full of fresh vegetables but wet very much on the bland side. This is my favorite American Cuisine restaurant in this area. Their Ballard's Club is my favorite meal I've ever had! The only problem is, their service isn't always consistent- you never really know when your food will arrive. It had been about 3 years since our last visit here and we were somewhat disappointed. The bbq sandwich which was always good with a sweet smoky sauce is now spicy hot with way too much cayenne to make it edible. We inquired of the waitress and she checked with the kitchen and said that is the normal now, it is called Tuscaloosa style on the menu. We ate about 1/5 of the sandwich with coleslaw. The waitress did apologize and offered to get something else but we were pressed for time and declined. I ordered a new item the menu said and it was a roast beef and provolone on ciabatta roll with dipping juice. It was also disappointing with little beef and cheese and mostly roll. My whole family eats at Riverbound every week. It's an easy spot, with a local feel and solid breakfast and lunch dishes. The kids seem to go with chocolate pancakes while the adults gravitate to the burgers, wraps and sandwiches. And of course, tater tots all around. The wait staff is always helpful and the food comes quick. In Mechanicsville there aren't many local options that serve good food at a great price, but this family friendly option hits the spot. We came for breakfast on a Thursday and it was not crowded. The prices seem reasonable for breakfast food. When the waitress came to take our order my wife tried to make a substitution and she stated that there are no substitutions for breakfast... The food came out quick, my wife ordered French toast which were not cooked all the way through. The grits were nothing special and tasted like they came out of a box. A basic diner type restaurant with standard burger, wrap, salad, and entrée offerings. I had a chicken wrap, my friend had the meatloaf sandwich, and his wife had the crab cake. All of the meals were good, but certainly not life changing. We all split a peach cobbler for dessert which actually was pretty good. They've got a few microbrews on tap along with a variety of bottled beers. I noticed a wine rack behind the bar, but did not examine the wine list.
