Cafés is behind an industrial building and you can't see the water although the water is nearby. When we first went inside, it was extremely loud and very echo-y so we decided to sit outside just a few tables against the parking lot. We ordered the Portuguese French toast, which was very good and the eggs Benedict with the corn beef hash, which was just OK. Hash was a little chewy. Nothing special. And they were very light on the hollandaise sauce. The hashbrowns were good. I don't think I'd return because it was nothing special or out of the ordinary. read more

10:15 on a Saturday morning. Not too busy and 3 waitresses. Open seating. Got coffees nearly straight away. Yea! Unfortunately, we had inadvertently sat ourselves on the side of the cafe where a party of 6 were before us. So, while two other waitresses had little or nothing going on in their sections we waited for the party of 6 to start on there ordering and then we got a chance to order. A slow day at the Riverside cafe but still 25 mins wait for our b'fast, due to our order being behind that table of 6. As for the noise level, I don't think that the chair legs and moving across the floor could possibly be made any louder. Wish management would address this annoying source of noise especially as a fix could be easily addressed and thereby reduce a lot of the overall noise-level. Waitress forgot about our table and we had to wait 10 minutes. I asked if I could get the kids chicken tenders because nothing else looked good to me and I was told "No". With no reason what so ever. I have seen other adults get the tenders in the past. Atmosphere was calm and relaxed. read more

You ever walk into a place and instantly doubt if you are in the right? That's how ordering takeout from the Riverside Cafe felt. Ordering and waiting for our food felt awkward and almost inconvenient to the workers around us. Specifically came here after seeing another review about their fruity tea. On quest for those, I made sure to point to their signage advertising them. The server taking our order copied verbatim what the sign read & got to making them... ice, black tea, and Torani flavored fruit syrup. Not what I assumed they were supposed to be, so a bit disappointed on that forefront. ‍ The food looked good, tasted good, no complaints there. Might return to try a 'dine in' experience, but never again for takeout. read more

Only positive here is location of restaurant. Ordered a cold beverage and requested no ice. Nasty service worker handed me a 3 quarter filled glass and was told she can't fill to the top. I did not accept the glass, and said I wanted coffee, not a glass of ice with a splash of coffee on it. I have gone to this establishment numerous times and have had terrible attitude and service from two of the workers on a regular basis. Really nice choice of diner-type foods; set in an old converted mill/brick factory setting. Has indoor & limited outdoor seating with some river views. Prices are moderate but decent sized portions. Waitstaff is not typically too friendly, however this could be a real "hidden treasure" if waitstaff were welcoming and consistently friendly. read more

Have been coming here for a while, and we noticed the food got a lot better about a year or two ago when the place switched owners. They have great dine in service with friendly staff (Maria is super nice), and also offer take out which we get and eat down by the river. The corned beef hash is one of the best I've had. read more

Came here everyday on our vacation, the lady working is what you'd imagine a stereotypical friendly diner waitress to be like in the best way. Saw her there every time we went, super sweet lady. and the food is pretty good. I'd say average breakfast food but that's what we were looking for. that said, they do also have some unique options like the salmon Benedict which was delicious. Home fries were the best here!! It's getting harder and harder to find food worth paying for. Went here for breakfast and had to wait about 20 minutes (ok w/ this but not the rest), after being seated I wanted to order the crab cake benedict - out of crab, husband wanted the 8oz steak + eggs plate - out of the steak, he ended up getting the hungry man and it was fine, I got the stuffed red, white, and blue french toast which somehow had no flavor and I wouldn't call a thin layer of ricotta "stuffed" french toast, also very over breakfast places that don't have real maple syrup, come on. *it took 30 minutes for our food to come out and everyone around us that were seated after we were had their food before us so needless to say...won't be going back. read more

I met a friend for breakfast here...& the ONLY reason why I stayed was due to our meeting. I ordered a cheese omelet. When it arrived I took one look at it & thought... Yuck! It had the remnants of someone else's order attached... I really wanted to send it back. However I just pushed it with my fork as we chatted. The place needs a serious cleaning! The table had gooey syrup that who knows how long it had been there .. an old, dried up piece of toast on my seat should have been a clue of what was to come... The food here is good, but good luck actually getting it on a busy day! Service at front desk is appalling. Sloppy, careless, missed our order, wouldn't make up for it, lied about it being ready not once but twice. Today, breakfast, a busy day (Labor Day weekend), there were two groups of folks waiting for a table. When I asked wait times, the girl at front desk said 30 mins, but I could get take out in 15. Ordered takeout. Half an hour later, no take out. I asked twice for her to check in my order. She said twice "it's coming". Third time she said : oh, sorry, it never went through, we're starting to cook it now. At this point I asked, well can you seat us while we wait, since it's been longer waiting for takeout than to get a table? She refused. Fifteen minutes later, our eggs arrived, after a 45 minute wait. Chaotic inattentive incompetent service. Not even an offer of a refund. Will never go there again. read more

A new discovery for me, but this place has been there a long time from what I heard from the local I was with. New ownership, not just new management. Waitress, Mo, was very good. Kept an eye out, but not pushy. Fresh baked Pistachio muffin made there this morning. Eggs were perfectly scrambled and good coffee. The coffee a must for me to return. Our best breakfast spot in Newburyport, by far. I never went here with its old owners (where some of the current reviews come from). I think my favorite thing about this place is the flat top. It's one of those that have been seasoned for so many years that everything cooked on it is just tasty. I always get one of their omelettes, which are cooked "flat" (where they mix the ingredients instead of folding over), and just stuffed with fillings. Service is great. Never a wait for a table. I came here today with my family was super excited to go out for brunch since it has been a while we came across this place and was happy to sit down and eat lots of food. Well was i mistaken for choosing this place. First off we sat down at the table getting ready to order and our server who was supposed to be listening to what we are ordering was saying by and touching other ppl leaving. So when the food got to the table the order was messed up. We didn't get what we asked for. I had to ask multiple times for water for all of us which she didn't bring till we was at the end of our eating I had ordered the Nutella banana stuffed French toast. And there was NO Nutella in this FT I mean when all these things going wrong I can let one or two things slide because I was a manager of a cafe before I know once in awhile things can get bad. So I brought it to the managers attention. I told her everything that had went wrong. There was no Nutella on my frnch toast we ask multiple times for waters And my girl friend didn't get what she ordered. The manager said she would go see what she could do. When she came back she said she took the French toast off the check BUT proceeded to tell me that they DID put Nutella on it. She had went back into the kitchen to try to get the tub that it was in and asked one of the cooks to get it for her. And when they got it It was put away in the storage area which proved my point that they never used it in the first place but anyway she brought the tub over to me and showed me the Nutella inside of it treating me like I didn't know what Nutella looked like. I asked her if she was calling me a liar and she said no but my kitchen made that frnch toast I said yes but there was No Nutella on it. I just wanted to get out there at that point. I have never in my life ever had anything like this happen to me. I wouldn't ever go back to that place. And I highly suggest you don't either cause if just so happens your food doesn't come out right the manager will be sticking up for the cook not the customer. Highly unprofessional and definitely upset about this whole experience. Disgraceful. read more
