Only my first night here, but I'm shocked. There were some rough negative reviews. Maybe those were accurate a bit ago... but that is not the case anymore. First, dinner was phenomenal. Penne pasta with shrimp, spicy. Wow. Healthy portion, fresh shrimp, prepared well. Staff was more than friendly. Felt like I've been here dozens of times before. Warm, down to earth regular folks. We also chatted with other guests. Good people. My brother had the Ribeye. While a touch expensive, it was top notch as well. The value is there and any reasonable person understands that there is some markup in a restaurant. Support your local businesses, or stay home and eat ramen. Another guest at the bar had the duck, after someone else [stranger] insisted he try it [from his plate, that shows you something]. The duck this guy got looked like it had eaten another larger duck before being prepared. The waiter strained to drag it over to him. Perhaps a littler hyperbolic, but you get it. The room is a great value. No odors, new carpet, perfectly acceptable bedding, TV with Roku so you can doze off to Bob Ross on PlutoTV. Zero complaints. I don't think your going to find a nicer place for the money. Pull up, relax with all the great folks and enjoy some great eats... if not, you can angry tweet from the parking lot and sleep in your car, losers. Spent fishing weekend here! Thrilled with the cabin; it had what we needed to be comfortable! Fresh towels, soap and shampoo too! Plates, pots, pans...a real glamming experience. Comfy outside sitting area by the river! Shaded too so the heat and sun not an issue. Had dinner Friday night in the cafe: shared whole rack of lamb with the hubby! Generous portion and cooked to perfection! Our friends had the trout and the shrimp scampi. The trout was deboned! Service in restaurant attentive and pleasant. Sat in sun room and could watch the trout jumping! Did I mention the key lime cheesecake? Try it! And I'm told the apple crisp is tasty too. I know we'll be back. It's a rainy autumn Saturday in Roscoe and I am revisiting my past with a friend of mine. I used to spend a lot of time here as a kid and certain things always stick out in my mind. The first is fishing. This area is known for trout fishing along the Beaverkill River. My dad used to bring us here every summer and he did a lot of fishing, lucky for us we enjoyed his catch. The second thing that stands out is just how beautiful it is here without the hassel of having to drive six hours. As it turns out, I do find an old friend of my family. We catch up on life and will stay in touch. Upon leaving he suggests that we should eat at Riverside for dinner, which is exactly what we do. The atmosphere is lovely. It has the view of the river as stated in the name, and has a nice open, woodsy, warm feeling. Our waitress was very attentive and gave us great suggestions and stated the specials. To start with we had a creamed chicken soup that had wild rice and barley in it. It was a savory, delicious starter on a cool, wet day. The salad was very good and a plentiful portion. As the entre I, of course, go for the trout (no surprise there).there was a choice of two different ways it was prepared. One was stuffed with crabmeat and one was pan seared with almonds.. I opted for the latter. I was not disappointed. Every fork full was mouth watering and it brought back memories of those days when we were cleaning and eating fresh trout for dinner. For dessert we decided to split the apple crumble, which was nice because the dinner portions were quite generous so it wasn't too heavy or rich. Simply stated, this place is awesome in all ways. We went for a special family dinner while visiting from out of town. It is a beautiful location with picturesque views of the river. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The menu was diverse with an abundance of specials. The food was absolutely amazing! The ribeyes were juicy and smothered in onions and mushrooms. The shrimp scampi was a huge portion and my Asian grilled salmon was flaky and juicy! The handmade cinnamon raisin table bread was served warm with a crispy crust and soft interior. I only wish we had saved enough room for dessert as that menu was equally expansive and mouth watering. I can't wait to go back. read more

I am official back with some awesome reviews to share so with that said let's begin! I came to this place coming from the city I heard much about this place before coming up here so I thought to give it a try. Imma give this a "pro and con" style of my experience there Pros! - Family owned, upon arrival we noticed even the family dog wanted us to come in he actually lead the way to the office and was happy that people came in! -this place is a restaurant as well as a inn so if you come eat and you feel tired you can rent either a small room(81$ that's with tax) or a cabin (90 ish tax not included). -The food was simply amazing especially because they use local produce from the neighborhood farms and markets in the area and you can tell from the pasta to the sauce that every step was made from scratch. -this place has a full bar and the drinks are pretty cheap! The family sure knows there drinks well so don't be afraid to ask them for the drinks you like! -towards the dining area you have a complete view of the river that flowing along the building so if it ever gets crowded wait for a table close to the window it's well worth the wait. -the small rooms Is very clean the beds are comfortable enough you will knock out instantly for those of you who been driving all day and night. They have a tv and all the channels to watch for so you don't feel disconnected with the world. Cons There only a few issues I had with this place and I'll start by listing this here. -during the weekdays when it's slower if your ordering food in the restaurant side it takes a bit long for your order to come out I must of been waiting for 40-45 mins for pasta and chicken wings. -it is out in the middle of nowhere so for those who have verizon service you will get bopped because there are no cell towers for you to connect to (t-mobile and AT&T is stronger for some reason) so you have to depend of the cabins free wifi which sometimes isn't that strong and its public. -in the morning during checkouts on the weekday it's hard to find anyone working just to say your leaving I literally left without telling them I was checking out for the day. Overall point: this place is worth the money and I would come again especially if I'm traveling up in that part of ny again! read more

What an unexpected find! My family and I were coming back from visiting my brother at college, and were looking for a place to eat dinner. We found this place through Yelp, and WOW!!! Everything is made in house, and you can tell! The bread and salad dressings were amazing, and all the food we ordered was delicious! The service was great and very friendly, and we even met the manager/owner, who was also very nice. I had the crab cakes and bread pudding, which were both delicious. The restaurant itself is really inconspicuous, and isn't clearly labeled. All you see when you pull up is the lodging and the 'Office', but when you venture inside, the space is beautiful and cozy. We ate in the sun-room, which had a wonderful view of the river. Very relaxing, very pretty! If you're ever in the Roscoe area, hit this place up! It's fantastic and well-worth the stop. read more

Stayed here after a 200+ ride from home. No phone in the room, Challenging to get TV stations and no coffee maker. The free WiFi did not work in the room and there was no Cellular Phone Service either. We had to go out on the porch to get the free WiFi. Bare bones room, but clean and comfortable Had dinner at the restaurant. .. Nice selection. Excellent food and great wine along with efficient service. A little pricey. We were driving back from Buffalo and nearly dying of hunger, or at least I was. It was so bad that I was thinking I could be the star of the next Snickers commercial. We kept checking yelp for places to eat and were very disappointed with the endless Chinese take out places. After reading reviews, we decided this would be the best we would find and wow did we underestimate this place! The view from the sunroom was just as great as the meal! The cinnamon raisin bread and tomato bread were both homemade and had us asking for more. I was also impressed with how you have four salad dressing choices and are free to add as much or as little as you want. I would recommend the blue cheese or Asian dressing any day. The guacamole was home made as well and out of this world. By the time out entrees arrived, we were full but couldn't stop eating because it was THAT good. I'm still a couple hours from home and incredibly full but I'm excited to eat my leftovers already. read more

The restaurant evokes and old-fashioned atmosphere of an inn you'd stop at driving on small country roads. It's set next to a river with fine views. The menu is small and your waiter lists all of the 'specials' available. I ordered the Wiener schnitzel. I was very satisfied and we stayed for dessert--I ordered a frozen raspberry-blueberry pie. Delicious. We came without a reservation but for dinner time on s weekend reservations appear to be recommended especially for the tables with a riverside view. When the Riverside Café first opened some years ago, it was an excellent restaurant. The steaks were always fresh, tender, and perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately, recent visits have been very disappointing. The complimentary salad and homemade bread are still very good, as is the pork tenderloin. However, the filet mignon that I ordered was awful. It was tough, bland, and overcooked. Part of the steak was burned to the point that it was bitter. For $25, I expect a lot better. The fried chicken was almost as pathetic; it was essentially fried chicken tenders of the quality level that one would expect in a truck stop; not in a fine restaurant. I hope that the owners read this review, take it to heart, and bring back the kitchen to the level of quality that it once had. read more

I had the pleasure of staying at the Riverside Lodge under some unfortunate circumstances. I had to pull off 17 during a snow storm only to get snowed in and stuck in their parking lot. The owners of the Riverside Lodge were so wonderful and helpful! I stayed in one of their adorable rooms with a gorgeous view of the river. They offered to drive me anywhere I needed, helped me shovel out my car and even towed my car out of the parking lot! Next time I'm traveling to and from NYC I will certainly be staying at the Riverside Lodge!! read more

We were on our way home from Niagara Falls and we stopped to get gas and stumbled upon this awesome little place!! Food was outstanding. Service was great. Everything homemade. My husband and I shared the chicken and penne. So good. It came with incredible biscuits and salad came with 4 different homemade salad dressings. Owner was so friendly and talked with us for a while. Highly recommended stopping by for some good food and company!! For the area that it's in, it's a great dining experience. I love the decor and all the deep woods that remind me of the 70s- but in a good way! Lol. I had the filet which was cooked perfectly. Husband had a filet as well, a little under cooked for his liking, but they were happy to add some heat. Glass of Shiraz I had was great and the wait staff were very attentive. Overall, we enjoy stopping at this restaurant when we are on Route 17. The food is VERY GOOD, including the homemade bread and desserts. A lot of VARIETY on the dinner menu. The prices are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for here. The river VIEW in the back room is lovely. The staff (husband at the bar, grandmother and daughter) are FRIENDLY and do a good job. The wife/chef is talented but unpleasant. I'm sad to say that, based on multiple experiences, I suggest that you hope that she stays in the kitchen while you are there and you don't have contact with her. read more

This "review" is long overdo. Several months ago after a long shift at work (in Syracuse) I was heading back home (near NYC) late at night to visit family and friends. Long story short I'm an idiot and did not take into account that several gas stations close around 10pm in central New York- moreso areas along 17. I stopped at a few CLOSED gas stations along the way (wasting more and more gas) and I eventually ran out of gas on a country back road. There weren't lights, my phone did not have service, and I assumed I was in the middle of nowhere. I began to walk along the road with a gallon water jug I had been drinking out of in hopes to find someone and better yet, someone with gas! I came across Riverside where I approached a younger female who appeared to be cleaning up/closing for the night. I explained my situation and she mentioned it to her parents (who own the restaurant). At first I'm sure they were skeptical (I looked insane and was barefoot- but that's a story for another time) BUT they helped me. The mother (wish I could remember her name) actually brought me to a gas station miles down the highway. We returned to my vehicle where the father helped me put the gas in and they sent me on my way. I only had cards at the time so I kept telling them when I drive back up I'd pay them anything. They refused of course, but I wanted to do something. Couldn't say thank you enough. What they did for me was amazing. Honestly I never stopped back on the way up, but trust me I plan on it. I figured at the very least right now I could write a review. I never do things like this and I'm not familiar with Yelp, but it's more than well deserved. If this family does business and takes care of their customers even half as great as when they helped me, I absolutely recommend going to their restaurant or lodging there. This is a review for the "motel" portion of the business. The owners seemed nice, but their kindness simply could not outweigh the quality of the room. Both of our 2 rooms had a faint smell of mold, gross carpet, and unclean comforters. The bathroom was wet as can be, and the toilet was covered with condensation. The air condition unit seemed to be at least 30 years old and was loud as can be. Although there are not many other options in the area, I'd recommend looking for somewhere else to stay. read more

First of all, I want to thank the other two reviewers, since without them I would have never know about this place. We went there on our way to our daughter's college. The place is right off 17. We pulled up to the place and there was no sign of a Restaurant , just a building next to a lodge that looked like the lodge's office. My wife and passengers thought I was crazy and didn't want to get out of the car. I finally got them out of the car and boy, were we in for a big surprise. We walked in and found a cozy rustic restaurant and bar. It was about 3 on a Friday and there were no other patrons. We grabbed a table in a sun room right by the river and had a wonderful lunch. The soups were homemade and tasty. Two had salads and had the homemade dressings which were excellent. I had burger and fries which was very good. They had some homemade desserts including rhubarb pie. We plan to go back again for dinner sometime. What a relief it is to find this gem in an area that has limited choices for food. Note.
