We love this place and eat here all of the time! Clam chowder is amazing! Very friendly waitstaff!

THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD. Oh my goodness comfort food in a nutshell. Seriously amazing cuisine. And the service? That waitress was running the floor like a PRO, she accommodated our every need, literally forgot nothing, and even brought us things we didn't think to ask for. The biscuits and gravy were really good. Eggs cooked just right. Problems bacon barely cooked when I asked for them to cook it a bit more it came back solid like a stick and done as could be. Hash browns burned on bottom. Pancakes so-so. Long wait after we ordered. read more

Probably the worst "cheap" diner I've ever been to. I put quotes around cheap since the atmosphere screamed cheap and the food was nearly all thawed/microwave crap, so it should have been cheap, but in reality their prices reflect that of a higher class place. My wife and I started by ordering "Frings" for an appetizer. There were 5 onion rings that were 1 to 2 inches in diameter and tasted like freezer aisle rings (Burger Kings are way better...sad). The fries underneath were also of the freezer aisle variety. Also when we ordered them the menu read "With your choice of dipping sauce", so we asked the waitress what the dipping sauces were, her answer was "Ranch? Other dressing?". I asked if they had fry sauce she replied "You mean like tar?" I asked "Tar?". She says "Yeah, tar." I said "We'll be fine with ketchup." So much for dipping sauces. Next came out the salad for my wife and my clam chowder. Her salad was straight from a bag, and floating in an inch of water, so we guessed it too was frozen, she didn't try the dressing. My clam chowder was almost certainly canned chowder (and cheap canned chowder at that) but at least it was tolerable. She got her main course, a beef dip sandwich, which had dry roast beef and nothing else with a watered down version of Au Jus like they had a quart of Au jus left and through another quart of warm water in to make it through the day. I got my main course which was some sort of daily special seafood platter with deep fried fish, prawns and oysters... The fish and prawns were ok, but the oysters were obviously harvested out of season and frozen, on top of being the biggest oysters I've over seen fried...I was always under the impression that fried oysters required small oysters or gutting the big ones? Maybe I'm wrong there, oh and maybe so are the 10+ other restaurants I've had fried oysters at. We obviously said no to desert... Moral of the story, go somewhere else, anywhere else, good seafood: Seabolt's. Good diner food: Island Cafe. Good prices: Frank's Place. Riverside Cafe, what you fed us was one of the most insanely disgusting things we've ever eaten. At no point in our meal were you ever even close to anything that could be considered restaurant quality food. Everyone who eats here is now sicker for doing so. Been here before and the food and staff were great but tonight it was so terrible (service) that I had to do something I have not done in 15 years, after almost 45 minutes all I could get was iced tea and water and a salad for my wife. The waiter came to the table about 6 times and still couldn't get the order right and couldn't remember to bring me the menu after he told us that he'd forgotten to put our order in and then returned again to say they were out of what I ordered. I noticed the other tables that he serviced were having the same issues. There were about 6-7 occupied tables and about 3 including ours which he serviced. When he blamed everything on a missing waitress we had to leave and he bungled that as well. He hasn't been there long and hopefully learns before it impacts the business. read more

The breakfast was on point! Biscuits and gravy was pretty damn good. The cheeseburger as well as the fish and chip were very good. The cheeseburger was so juicy. The fish and chips were crispy and flaky. The Pina Colada was decent as well. The only thing I would say is, they could be quicker. It took a while to get our food as well as our bill. read more

Great food at a decent price. I stop by here every weekend for breakfast and the waiter always remembers my order. Super friendly and attentive staff - my coffee rarely makes it all the way to empty. Expect some delays on Sunday morning, it's pretty packed right after church so orders might take a while. read more

I stopped by for lunch and was seated fast. I ordered a breakfast meal and a coffee. The coffee was plain black coffee (what I expected/order) but tasted kinda old. My breakfast was not impressive. The hash browns tasted like they were previously frozen. And my omelet was okay. The waitress was very sweet and the price was too high for how the food tasted. It actually took me nearly a week to write this review because my first few attempts were too emotionally charged. I visited this restaurant on Sunday 08/12 with my boyfriend and another couple, and we should have taken the animosity we received from the entire restaurant more seriously & exited as quickly as we entered. I can't even give them the grace of saying it was like they'd never seen black people before; clearly they had and CLEARLY they wanted to make it known that our men were not welcome. Multiple tables would not stop staring at our table, making direct eye contact with my boyfriend as he was facing toward the restaurant. One man even tapped his young son on the shoulder & redirected his gaze so both father and son were shooting daggers our direction. The restaurant staff witnessed this and did absolutely nothing. We decided of course to ignore this and just enjoy our meal. Our boys brought their appetites, and each ordered about 3 entrees whereas myself & the other female ordered the pancake breakfast & huevos rancheros, respectively. After about 40 minutes the boys' meals arrived first and in addition to being disappointing (the corned beef hash had obviously come from a can and the "steak" was a glorified hockey puck basted in some A1), they were all messed up. Wrong pancakes, missing pancakes, wrong omelette. We pointed out the errors & sent the messed up food back, which was remade & delivered before I or the other girl in our group received our food. The omelette was STILL wrong & at this point we start to think everything is intentional, as we can see the kitchen staff member watching us and laughing through the kitchen doorway. Our waitress did not notice the missing food, so we had to bring it to her attention. She realized she had never ordered our entrees, and as we needed to catch a ferry (and had honestly lost our appetites) we told her not to worry & there was no need to fire the missing orders, we would just take our check. Now at this point we kind of expected that the check would reflect the service we received... nope. Not only were we charged for everything in full, but we had even been charged for the extra mimosa that our waitress acknowledged had been her mistake. When our waitress came back around, my boyfriend's friend calmly said, verbatim, "I'd like to talk about our bill." Our waitress BURST into tears and told us she was sorry for all her mistakes as she was a single mom and her mom has breast cancer, so she had "a lot on her mind." We didn't even get another word in edgewise, as she immediately RAN away from our table & into the back employee area. The boys dropped their forks at that point, any remaining appetite they had was long gone. Mind you, this whole time there's another waitress & the man we had seen in the kitchen standing there watching everything, neither of whom did a damn thing. We had a ferry to catch, so the boys just bit the bullet and left cash for the tab and tip. We got about halfway to the car when we realized that our tabs had been $60 and $70, which seemed crazy expensive for what we received & we wondered if we had been charged for the meals that never came out. The boys walked calmly back into the restaurant and asked to see their bills again, AND THE MAN FROM THE KITCHEN HAD THE AUDACITY TO GESTURE TOWARD MY BOYFRIEND AND SAY LOUDLY ENOUGH TO GATHER THE ATTENTION OF THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT: "HE LOOKS LIKE HE WANTS TO KILL SOMEBODY!" Seeing that the staff wanted only to escalate the situation & not rectify it, we left, having not even paid but overpaid for a meal that was horrible start to finish. I hate to discredit our waitress' situation but based on how the rest of the staff handled the incident, I can't help but feel like we got hustled. read more

Been there several times. today i ordered corn tortillas with my eggs cause i told the waitress im allergic to wheat. well the cook decided to substitute flour tortillas cause he was out of corn and didnt tell anyone. After i ate 2 of them i realized it, so after i ran to the bathroom to puke it up, i spoke with the manager. The waitress was very nice and felt aweful. The manager had to explain to the cook that he cant just substitue like that. So with epipen in hand we left. read more

Breakfast is amazing! Raspberry French toast was stuffed with cream cheese with a raspberry sauce drizzle. Not too sweet and a huge portion. Omelet was good, too. Service was fast, attentive, and friendly. A great new addition to downtown Oak Harbor read more

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the Riverside Cafe from Mt. Vernon had opened a restaurant right here in Oak Harbor. They took over a failed Mexican restaurant and have a lot of fixing up to do, but the menu is terrific. I especially like their appetizer chicken wings, their burgers, their outstanding fish & chips, the Chef's Special Salad, and numerous other items. The wait staff is cheerful and attentive, the prices are a bargain, and the service is excellent. As the business builds this will be a very crowded place. Disregard the negative reviews on this site, I have no explanation for their comments. This place is a welcome addition to Pioneer Way. read more

The food was just ok but the service was the worst I have ever had in my life. Lunch (water and sandwiches) took nearly 2 hours having to wait for some service and it wasn't even that busy. I finally had to BEG for my check just so I could leave. I hope she finds a better fitting job because she would starve if she didn't work in a restaurant. read more
