I came looking for cat boarding and wasn't very happy with their boarding. They are in kitty cottages in a back room and it doesn't look like they get much attention. I had a kitten with chronic diarrhea and everything I was trying didn't help! The last step in my kitten's journey on earth was to leave him in a cage the rest of his life (cats can live up to 20 years) which would have broken my heart to see him live like this!!! I had spoken to the Vet at this hospital in great detail explaining to her all that I had tried to get my kitten better over the last 6 months! I called back this cat hospital and they agreed to take him in and get him better (which I was so grateful) BUT it came with the condition that I relinguish my rights to getting him back! I had given them a generous donation to cover the expenses. When I dropped him off I was crying uncontrollably. Surely you would have thought that the staff would have recognized the extreme heartache I was going through, but in the end I felt betrayed by them and the Adoption Agency!!! When my kitten was turned over to the Adoption Agency the cat hospital could have put a "GOOD WORD" in for me to the Adoption Agency, but based on the response back from the Adoption Agency I knew the conversation "to put in a good word" never took place! The Adoption Agency wrote me back and said, "I am not interested in your pity party!". I had written to the cat hospital numerous times asking for updates, and I even mentioned I would like to get him back after he is well! If I didn't love my kitten I would have never written back for updates and asked for him back!!! An employee at the cat hospital said to me that, "Rarely does the pet owners get their pets back"! Well now I know why! Where is the compassion!!! They would rather place the animal in a stranger's home than with the loving owners that welcome the animal back with loving arms!! And how about the animals' feelings!?!?! Not only do they miss their owner, but the animals left behind they grew up with!!! The animals left behind are also mourning the loss!!! I know because there are articles written on this very subject!!! How can this be a win win situation??? So very sad!!! I will never forget this horrible experience as long as I live!!! This review is long overdue. I found Riverside Cat Hospital on yelp and couldn't be happier. I was able to get a same day appt, the staff is very friendly and helpful, it is clean, and you can tell they love kitties. I could really tell how much every one of the staff members cares about the well being of my pet, Kitty. The cost was reasonable and they did not try to push extra services and treatments upon me, much like I have experienced at other vets. I like they only cater to kitties because my cat is very skittish so having dogs around would make it worse for her. I will definitely be back! read more

I recently brought my cat to the Riverside Cat Hospital because he had a condition that he was treated for at another veterinary hospital and I was very happy with the service. I have several cats and have used many facilities in town but I have not had the personal service that I received at this warm and pleasant environment. They have a little fireplace and coffee and tea for the clients. They were very conscientious with the diagnosis and treatment of my cat and as a result of their care my cat came home and was feeling like new. I will definitely recommend this hospital to my friends with cats and will use it for my cats from now on. read more

Late in 2011, I returned to Riverside Cat Hospital after taking my cat (Miss Girl) to other Vets. much closer to my home. Riverside Cat Hospital was Miss Girls first vet. And she needed special care now. Dr. Lumsden is a straight shooter when if comes to your cat. As the other review stated she may seem rude. I assure you that is not actually the case. She is only doing the best for you friend. After a six month battle against her disease, and many great treatments, we brought Miss Girl in for her final visit. Dr. Lumsden assessed her condition, which we already knew the outcome. Dr. Lumsden was more compassionate than any Vet. I have ever come in contact with. She treated our Girl like she was her own. She made her calm and relaxed, and when the final procedure was completed, Dr. Lumsden brought our girl to use wraped is a beautful pink and white blanket. She hugged us and I noticed her crying just a little bit. If your cat is your best friend and family, and you want the best care for her/him, you owe it to them to travel the distance to get care here. She is great, she is not overpriced like so many out there, and she cares about your family member. read more

I took my cat there because she has been vomiting. The staff was very pleasant, the Vet didn't seem to know what was wrong. I told her I had changed her food and she could be stressed from moving. I also told her my cat could have ear mites. She took a slide of the stuff from her ears, said it sounds like she is regurgitating her food and charged me $160 for a antivomit shot & pills. She said she could run a senior cat profile since my cat is 10 and that would be $450, which I declined. read more

This place is great! They are true cat experts, no dogs allowed. They're kind friendly and so helpful. And they don't overcharge. When we took our 14 year old cat in to them Dr. Gallegos was so kind and compassionate. She was honest with us and after tests said she was so sorry but she couldn't save him. They are so unprofessional and it is sad. Dr. Lumsden is extremely experienced and a great vet but the staff is unbelievably rude. They lost our business once for being rude and Dr. Lumsden called us and asked why we were no longer coming in and we told her, she said she wished we had told her sooner. We noticed one of our male cats had some blood in his urine, they could not get him in, however we were told to call at 9:00 a.m. the next day and that they would work us in between surgeries. When I called the first thing I was met with an attitude and that they had an emergency and that the cat had probably been poisoned. I feel for that cat and its owners and really hope that it will be okay. That does not change the fact that I was told that my cat would be worked in today, he needs to be seen by a Vet. I was then told that my cat probably wouldn't be able to be seen. I asked her if I should bring my cat in as an emergency and she told me very snottily that if I thought my cat had a real emergency I should take him to an emergency Vet. So much for giving them a second chance. My cat is not important enough to be seen. They cannot be trusted to keep their word that they will see your cat. Oh and by the way the day before I was told I could ALWAYS bring in my cat if there was an emergency. read more

I took my sick little kitty, Soca, to this facility and was thoroughly impressed. From the minute I walked in I didn't have to wait long before being seen by the vet, Dr. Agarwal. She was so kind and compassionate towards my baby that it looked as if my kitty were hers. The staff who assisted the vet during the exam were also very gentle with Soca calming her as she was shaking from fear. Everything the Dr. prescribed and suggested to do with Soca helped her get better. What I loved most about the care given was that Dr. was not hesistant with saying what she would not recommend stating "I don't think putting Soca under anesthesia would be advisable as the risks outweigh the benefits". I trust this facility 100% and am definitely coming back if Soca gets sick again. read more

I was very satisfied with this cat hospital. Usually my friends say I'm too picky so trust me this place is good. They have a very friendly staff, they gave accurate wait times, and the vets were awesome. One thing with me is I want to feel comfortable when trusting someone with my cats because, to me, cats are like family members and Riverside Cat Hospital is the best. Great staff, great doctors (we've seen both Dr. Lumsden and Dr. Agarwal who are excellent), and clean and comfortable facilities. I have a bit of a fussy cat (Lola). From our first visit, Pam (front desk) went the extra step to help Lola stay calm. Everyone there treats her like the princess I've raised and although she still gives them hell, they are always sweet and gentle, unlike other vets I've experienced. They are very accommodating and work with you to make your checkbook from having a coronary. They are the best! Love you all! read more

If it wasn't for the staff at this hospital, my cat would have passed away last year. My 18-year-old tabby was losing a lot of weight and lots of fur. Our regular vet was not able to help her, but with the expertise of the staff here, my cat is not only surviving, but thriving. If it wasn't for them, my children would have needed to say goodbye to Tigger. That would have been difficult because she's family. Our cat was having bloody urine and being misdiagnosed by our other vet so we went to Cat Hospital. After an overnight stay ($), many tests ($) and an xray ($$), we determined she had kidney stones. We were lucky that a prescription food would help her but what we were NOT told is that we would be denied purchasing ANY amount of cat food should we not bring in our cat for an annual exam. Money is tight so we have to hold off (after all, the food isn't cheap but required for the health of our cat) until we can. However, we were denied purchasing ANY food (not even a small bag) until an exam is completed. WHAT?! That makes no sense, deny the cat the food they need to avoid kidney stones and cause the owner to seek alternate arrangements which could harm the cat's health, which obviously wouldn't be treated if they cannot afford the almost $50 exam fee. How is this ethical? They should have allowed us to purchase a smaller bag to give us time ($) to come back for the annual exam. When I was contact 2x by their office staff in Feb, no mention of the exam being required to keep the special food was mentioned. We arrived to buy cat food today and was denied. They checked with the vet (Lumsden) and she's not budging. How can that be caring for cats?! SHAME on you! We will find a better vet that at least has compassion for the owners too. read more

The front desk goes beyond what anyone would expect. They gave my cat some wipes with aroma therapy to calm her, one lady even left the desk to help the vets get my cat taken care of several hours faster than the vet quoted. The vet there actually cares about healing our pets and not making money off us. It is obvious- and you know what I mean if you've ever been to an apathetic doctor. I drive over 60 miles for each visit. Absolutely worth it. They are military friendly as well. read more

Well what can I say. Love, Love Love this place. OMGOSH, I needed to find another place to take my Lil love bug Safari my 2 year old Calico who saved my life. She found me by sleeping in my planter when she was about 6mos old. She is very skiddish to any other human except me and my husband. From the moment we walked in with Safari I knew we were at the right place. Vanessa back office was so gentle with her and put Safari at ease from the start. Dawn at the front desk was soooooo understanding and wonderful. Then when the Doc walked in my husband and I thought we had died and went to heaven. She was just fabulous and knows her stuff. We also got Safari a lion cut and they did it better then the groomer. WOW...SO FLIPPING IMPRESSED. Then the next day we get a call from the office to check up on our Lil love bug. When I adopted my kitten, I brought her here for a check up and shots. I was able to get a same day appointment on a Saturday, and our kitten was seen very quickly. Dr. Agarwal answered all our questions honestly, and gave a thorough check up. The staff here are always happy to see our girl, and she usually gets a toy to take home. They even gave my husband a follow up call after our last appointment, just to see how she was doing! I love seeing how much the staff here care for the cats. VERY VERY Sad day to hear that Dr Lumsden is no longer at this office Riverside Cat Hospital. I was told on 1-12-18 that she had given her notice and was going to be working somewhere else. Dr. Lumsden has been taking care of my furbaby Renegade for almost 9 years when I adopted him. Riverside Cat Hospital is not the same after she sold it. Dr. Lumsden REALLY cares about your furbaby and would always show loving affection and care. She would call after to ensure your fur baby was doing ok. I had to take my Renegade a day that Dr Lumsden was not their and he had to have surgery. He had a blockage in his small intestine. The ower Dr Gellegos did the surgery although she was caring before the surgery, did she even call to check on Renegade after surgery NO. Even the day I took him to get his 20 staples out she didn't even bother to come out and talk to me and let me know he was healed well etc. I feel this new owner is about the Money not the pet. SO SAD. WELL since Dr Lumsden will no longer be with Riverside Cat Hospital time to look for a new Vet. read more

I just have to say that the staff here is abolutely, one hundred percent, without a doubt, all about doing what is best for your cat. I couldn't believe how caring and compassionate every single one of their staff members were. I found a stray in front of my home the night before. It was the most loving cat I had ever seen. It was nothing but skin and bones and clearly sick. I didn't dare take the sweet thing to the shelter as they would have taken one look at it and sent her off to her death. I took her into riverside cat hospital to get her scanned for a microchip and to have her looked at so I could at least get an idea of just how sick this cat was. I was able to get a same day appointment and they offered a discounted first time visit. Turns out she was worse than I thought. Her tests, medicine and the whole shebang would have costed me almost $400. I was so torn and upset as I didn't have $400 dollars to spend on a cat that wasn't mine but didn't want to take it to the shelter and send her to her death. A lady who fosters rescues (who is a friend of the riverside cat hospital employees) just happened to be around when I was there for my appointment. The vet told her about my situation and she came to look at the cat. She saw just how loving and sweet this cat was and offered to call around and see what she could do to help. Her and her friend (who also fosters rescues) decided to take this sweet baby in and foster it back to health. I was so overwhelmed I literally cried with joy. They gave this sweet girl a chance at life. I can not express how grateful I am for the people at riverside cat hospital. They proved to me that there are still caring people out there. I have been to countless animal hospitals where the employees have lost their compassion for animals. Riverside cat hospital was not that kind of animal hospital. I have used this hospital before for my last cat and was very happy with their service.My old cat passed away and when it was time, a got a new kitten from the local shelter. I was really happy to see in the information I was given from the shelter, that the Riverside Cat Hospital was one of their providers of a free first vet check. I took my kitty in to be checked and he had a little cold that I paid for meds to get rid of. The check was NOT free. $92.00 later I was on my way. I gave them copies of the paperwork that said the check should be free, only to be told they don't do that anymore. I gave them the copies before the exam. Maybe a heads up would have been nice. I think they are good vets, but this did kind of piss me off. read more

I am very pleased with this cat specific vet facility. The staff are pleasant and showed care and concern towards my cats. When I had many questions, they were patient and answered my concerns and thoroughly explained procedures. My older cat recently had her teeth cleaned and a tooth extracted. The procedure was explained and I felt very informed about the experience. Afterwards, a plan was made to keep track of her other teeth as she ages and ways to help keep her gums and teeth healthy. My cat recovered very quickly and with very little discomfort, as she was up and about and playing that evening. I am very pleased with the care that I have received here. read more

My husband and I have been taking our cats to Riverside Cat Hospital since approximately 2002. Dr. Lumsden has always been the best. Now she is semi-retired. We really were quite hesitant about seeing the new owner, however, we have been extremely impressed. Dr. Leigh is caring and patient. We are currently undergoing a medical problem with our cat, Missy, and the doctor has put in extra time and research towards solving our situation. We have a 20+ year old cat who had a tumor for years and back in April 12 it opened leaving an open wound on her side. Our former Dr in Riverside stated there was nothing we could do for her, as did the other three Dr's that worked there. After a trip to the emergency room with her and a visit with Dr McDuffee we found out that we could get it removed and he told us about the cat hospital. We immediately went here and received the same diagnosis. After getting her thyroid problem under control (another issue we didn't know of, we were told she was border line diabetic of which she isn't) we were able to get the tumor removed and her side closed up. She is doing wonderful thanks to Dr Agarwal and the awesome staff at the Cat Hospital. We wish we could have found them sooner. read more

BEWARE: These people have some seriously disturbing control issues. Don't bring your pet here. They are quick to do procedures before they become medically necessary, including euthanasia!!! Some diagnoses made by these vets were completely absent when my pet was examined by other vets, including specialists. This is an excellent clinic. I have never worried that my cats won't be well cared for, and the vets are extremely knowledgeable. The techs are also great, very gentle and understanding with my kitties, and the front desk staff have always been responsive and friendly. One of my cats has chronic health issues and his care isn't cheap, but Dr. Lumsden figured out a treatment that has really worked. This has helped lower the bills somewhat but, more importantly, my cat has a much better quality of life these days. read more

I am appalled by the immature, condescending behavior of the staff here. We had our cat treated by them a couple years ago, then we switched back to our other vet because he is more affordable and willing to work with us financially. No hard feelings, but apparently Dr. Lumsden took it personally. We called her for advice and because we suspected the other vet gave us the wrong medicine. She said, in a snarky voice, "Oh, so now that you have an emergency you want to come back. You don't even sound like you feel bad about it. You're wasting my time, I'm trying to eat lunch." Unfortunately I had no choice but to bring my cat there because they are the only ones who carry the medicine we needed. (She continued to insult me to another staff member in the other room while she ate her lunch.) And this isn't the first time she's acted this way, she's scolded/lectured me in the past. It's disturbing to know that my pet's well-being is in the hands of someone so rude, spiteful, and unprofessional. Maybe if they had some competition in the area and began losing more customers, they would tone down the attitude and stop thinking they're "God's gift to cats". Side note: They are also insensitive and show very little compassion. A dog was hit by a car outside their building, and I just needed them to fill up my bowl with water to give to the dog until animal control arrived. They coldly told me "Nope, sorry, we don't deal with dogs." You'd think if you're in the business of caring for animals, you would simply do the right thing regardless of "rules". I wouldn't recommend this place at all, and in my opinion there are plenty of other vets out there that are much more reasonable, caring, courteous, and professional. read more

I had to put my 26 year old cat down yesterday. 7 years ago dr lumsden saved his life after disappointing visits to other vets. I found here to be an angel everything about her impressed me from her demeanor to her knowledge of her profession. Our cat has been going there for about 5 years. Our experience is that the staff and Dr. Lumsden are top notch. Our cat is in his "twilight years" and they are very attentive about keeping him healthy. My cat usually brings a pretty nasty attitude when we come but the staff are wonderful with him and we are usually in and out without a long wait (unlike any other vet I have been to). Completely incompetent! On my first (and only) visit, after a 20 minute roundabout conversation with the vet about my cat's ibd/food allergies, she decided that the food my cat was on (prescription for food allergies), was fine even though my cat was throwing up every day, and gave me a suggestion for an anti-nausea med, but didn't actually put it on her chart or prescribe it, so I had to push the issue when I came back to pick up my cat later in the day. The anti-nausea meds have been working great at least, but trying to get the prescription for it refilled is a nightmare! First off, they charge more than my last vet, by $8, and they charge more than double the price that I can get it online. Since my cat needs this med every day, online is really the only way to afford it. So after ordering it online, the website cannot get an approval from the vet's office. It took 11 days to get it approved, when we called to see what was going on, they said the vet was on vacation. Fair enough, but then they need to let the client know or get it approved by another vet. Hoping this was just a mistake, we ordered the next refill online again. This time it took 8 days, 4 emails from the website, 2 calls from my boyfriend, and two calls from myself. They kept saying it was on the board for approval, well that was a week ago.There is no reason that an approval should wait that long! So I call again, they put me on hold, go consult with the vet, tell me the vet approved it and they will fax it out within 10 minutes. Well 4 hours go by and they still had not faxed it out! This med is vital to my cat's well being! This is how they treat people's pets?! I am never going back there! I cannot believe how incompetent they are! I am lucky this was not a life saving drug I guess, or else my cat would be dead by now. If you love your cat, take them elsewhere and save yourself the headache. read more
