A party of five decided on Riverside Grille for a midweek outing. The place was hosting a group of 80 so, although outnumbered, we stayed for dinner. The menu is a decent mix of pub food with sandwiches, wraps, pizza and appetizers. Two in our party had the grilled tenderloin and pronounced it as good as the Precinct. Two others had a Rueben and said it was as good as it looked, which was very good. I had the Southwest Jalapeño burger and it was just ok. Nothing notable about it. The fries were good like the old Buckhorn fries and the onion tanglers reminded me of Des Moines. All in all a solid performance and close to home. We were hoping that "riverside" meant we would be able to see the river while we ate, but no such luck. Don't let that deter you, the food was excellent. The atmosphere was a bit noisy, and there were televisions everywhere, so we didn't stay long, but I highly recommend the pork tenderloin sandwich (breaded and fried, true Iowa Style)! This is a great sports bar. I was in from out of town and stopped for lunch. Sat at the bar and Laura introduced herself and got my name (which never happens anymore) then provided excellent service. Menu is good and prices are very reasonable. I got a local craft beer and the BBQ burger with jalapenos (which they had no problem adding for free which gets great brownie points). 4 stars and not 5 because burger was ordered medium and came out well done, but still very tasty and very messy. I like BBQ sauce on my burger but this was too much, too sweet, and very sticky. Fries were great and hand cut. Service and prices were exceptional. Nitpicky stuff... Jalapenos were pickled, which makes them lose all of their zip. Use fresh ones. Cut back on the BBQ sauce or put some on the burger and put some on the side if people want to pretend they are eating ribs. Other than that... great place. This was our third visit, so I feel able to give it a review. First off, the food has been pretty good each time we went. I had a fried chicken wrap the first time. It was fresh but needed a little bit more seasoning. I had the club wrap last night and I can say the same thing about it - fresh but a little bland. I had the fish & chips another time and it was tasty. The breading wasn't what you expect from a "real" fish & chips dinner, but it wasn't bad (I know, faint praise, as my dad used to say). Regarding the appetizers, we liked the pretzels - soft and not overly microwaved. The homemade chips were a nice touch and I enjoyed them all 3 times I've had them. I wouldn't recommend the "cheese balls', or whatever they called them. They were small and mostly breading, like Culver's. Beer selection was good; certainly more varied than in some QC bars. I enjoyed the Slingshot Ale wile my wife went with her usual Roller Dam Red. It's great when local (i. e. not a chain) restaurants serve local QC brews. Service was pretty good, for a packed Friday night. The food came out at different times, but we DID have a group of 10 people this time. Typical for a bar, there are a lot of large flat-screen TVs. My only real complaint was the noise level. Every time we've been there it has been very loud. Interestingly, it seems louder on the right side (as seen from the door), than where we sat last night, by the fireplace. I'm not sure how they could fix this; maybe some sound deadening banners hanging down from the ceiling or on the walls. I'm deaf in one ear, which usually means that loud places cause more of a problem than most people. However, several other people who've been there have remarked about the noise, too. We're baby boomers, so we tend to like places where we can have a conversation. It doesn't seem like a "pickup bar", at least not yet. In fairness, we've only been there on Friday night. Also, the men's room was "one-holer", which isn't the best idea for a bar. The ladies' room had more stalls. All in all, the atmosphere was pleasant (except for the noise level). The food was decent. The beer selection was better than many restaurants. We will return, probably often, though I'd like to try lunch or a slower night. I'd compare it to Governor's but newer and with a smaller beer selection. read more

I don't review often because I want my reviews to have an impact. I ordered the soup of the day (I think black bean chili). It was horribly salty and I couldn't eat more than one spoonful. The waitress wasn't too helpful. When I asked about the soup before ordering, she said she had never had any. Please train your waitstaff and let them be the customers' advocates. If your food isn't good, they shouldn't defer, they should side with the customers. They're your first line of defense and your customers advocates. Your restaurant is relatively clean and respectable. Make your food match. read more

First time here. Ordered the Santa Fe wrap. Very good, good portion size. No complaints here just after the noon hr, and plenty of seating available. My guest had the French dip and really liked it along with the Baked bean side. I would come again if in the area. read more

Gave this place a try for the first time with some friends because I had driven by and it always looked pretty busy. When we went we had a party of 4, which we were told it would be 20 minute wait. A couple other friends decided to come so our party increased to 6, so the increase in wait time was understandable but we saw multiple tables suitable for 6 sat with patrons that arrived after us. After nearly a 40 minute wait a party of 6 arrived shortly prior to us being sat were sat in a 6 person booth right next to us as we were sat at a folding table. The table had zero napkins or silverware. We ordered drinks and were going to order appetizers but the waitress ran off before allowing us to get it all out. After our drinks arrived we ordered appetizers (fried pickles / fried moz sticks) which came out burnt. At this point we're nearly an hour an 10 minutes in to our visit with only drinks and burnt appetizers to show for it. (I get it, they are busy so I'm letting a lot of it slide as it goes on). When our waitress returns to take our orders I tell her that our fried pickles and moz sticks taste burnt. She asks if we would like to replace them with a new order which we agreed to not. Before letting us order she runs off again to return the burnt appetizers. All drinks on the tables are now empty and we still have no napkins and greasy hands in an attempt to eat burnt pickles. Our waitress is spotted stopping at 4-5 more tables prior to returning to take our orders 5+ minutes later. At this point we had decided after nearly an hour and a half (or more) that we would just take our business elsewhere so we alert out waitress who brings out checks containing a charge for both appetizers that were taken away with only 2 eaten. One couple pays for theirs to avoid hassle but I requested our appetizer be removed. At no point during any of this mixup or slowness did a manager approach us to try and rectify the situation. I was trying my hardest to be lenient as the place was busy but this was just inexcusable. It looked as if most of the servers hired were serving for the first time. I wish I could review the sandwiches because they sounded amazing but I never had the chance or time. This place might be good for a lunch of off hour visit but I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole if the parking lot is over half full. read more

We came here for a simple, good dinner and got just what we were looking for. The pizza has a very thin crust, the toppings are great and it tasted really good. One of us had the tangler burger and it was great. The meat was good quality, the flavor great and the portions are generous. We will definitely come back next time we are in town. read more

We have not been here for several months. The food was good as usual, but we were surprised to see their prices raised by about a dollar per item without a change in portion size. We also noticed that they now nickle and dime everything. A slice of cheese for our son's Cheeseburger was $1, a side of BBQ sauce for the our other son's kids chicken tenders was $.75, and using a credit card was a nearly $2 fee. Visited on the 4th of July while out for a bike ride. This place had a chance to show us what they have to offer because Sports Fans was closed. We sat at the bar to eat and have a beer. Our fried cheese balls were over cooked but we were never asked how we liked them. The bartender failed to serve us water after asking when she took our drink order. Our meal wasn't horrible but it took a while to get. The guy who served our food did apologize for the delay stating the kitchen was overwhelmed. Not sure why though.... there were very few people in the place. But I give him credit because our bartender didn't seem to care. She didn't smile at all and was quite short with many customers. I'd have to say if the bartender (basically our server) would have treated us better I may have stepped up my review. Sorry, first impressions ruined my first visit to your establishment. read more

Lively spot to watch the National Championship game. More upscale bar food than your traditional fare at a sports bar. We opted to share the deep fried cauliflower (wow!) and then I went for the salmon BLT which the salmon was prepared VERY well, and my counterparts had the bacon chicken sandwich and cheeseburger with fries and they all were very pleased with their meals. This place has the best service in the QC's! The food is good. The only down side is its busy so loud. I love that there are options for a variety of diets. Options of beer on tap are good... Plus they have Backpocket Slingshot! They have a LOT of TV's that can be seen from any seat with different channels on every one. I've never had to wait for a seat. read more

Went here with the lady friend and her Pa. Clean establishment with a piluthera of televisions. Decent beer selection and a 3 page menu of bar food. Her Pa had a reuben that looked pretty good, the lady friend a burger, and the author a steak sammich. I don't think they understand what a steak sandwich is. It was 1 thin piece of steak, with... well nothing else. Nothing but bread and a very thin sammich steak. Bread was good, but haysus christo. Guess I didn't read the menu discription thorough enough. The burger was a little overdone according to the lady friend, and the Pa with his delicate, yet, very descriptive vocabulary deemed the rueben, "very good." Honestly it looked pretty good and I hate ruebens. Fries were fine and the onion straws I can't complain about. Overall I would give it another try. The staff was great. Only 2 girls on the floor but no delays, and no screw ups. Would definitely try it out again, just stay away from the thin, bland steak sandwich. read more

Went for lunch. Split an order of Sriracha Garlic Wings and they were crispy and delicious. I got the Ahi Tuna sandwich which was cooked medium and pretty tasty. He got the Buffalo chicken sandwich with Daytona sauce (their signature sauce, a buffalo/BBQ tangy sauce that is really good). Fries and onion tanglers were really good. I am visiting the area for a week and ended going to Riverside Cafe almost every night because the food was awesome and the service was friendly and made my visits amazing. Beth and Lori both waited on us and were very friendly, took time to welcome us to the city and made great suggestions on what to order. Beth even spent the time to give us suggestions for other places in the area although we liked riverside so much we kept coming back for dinner. My first meal I had was the Tangler burger which featured onion strings which was amazing. I also had the Apple salad which had a generous portion of grilled chicken, apple and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I love apples on my salad and enjoyed. The third evening I had the turkey club which was equally amazing. I enjoyed the craft beer selection staff brought me out several samples so I could try the different local beers.
